Cry
If his old man could see him now, he'd be disgusted.
Sarge had always been tough. That was how he was raised. You couldn't get through having the strictest father imaginable without being tough. You couldn't get through one of the worst wars in history without being tough. So, he had no choice but to be tough.
Even when he wanted to, he wasn't very good at showing his softer side. That didn't mean he didn't care. Nothing could be further from the truth. He just kept it all inside.
He had gotten through his mother's death, his father's death and his best friend's death, all without shedding one single tear. Now, he found himself on the verge as he thought of Fudge, that poor young girl fighting for her life. While she didn't exactly melt his heart, it was obvious that he cared for her, just as much as he cared for everyone else in town. And she was only twelve, for Chrysler's sake! She hadn't really lived yet!
And her poor parents! Sarge had known Luigi and Guido for a very long time and not once had he ever seen them half as upset as they were now. Fudge was everything to them! This was killing them just as much as it was killing Fudge.
Thinking about it was too much for Sarge. The tears stinging at his eyes fell softly onto his hood. Normally, he'd scold himself for being such a sissy, but this time, he didn't. Maybe Fillmore was right.
People don't cry because they're weak. They cry because they've been strong for too long.
Another one set during Ride. Hope you enjoyed! :)
