I hadn't seen my father since that night 5 years ago, don't get me wrong, he wasn't the best parent on the Isle. But he was by far not the worst either. It's not that I hadn't looked either; I spent ages trying to find any sign of him. He seems to have disappeared from the Isle; I doubt he is even alive. Those men must have taken him, maybe even killed him. "Yo, Bree'', A boy yelled out to me. ''Hi Jay,'' I said, sitting on top of the building, ''What brings you here today''. ''I need info; Uma's crew is making moves on Mal's territory,'' Jay stated. His grin stretched wide just thinking about the mischief and action of the confrontation. ''You have got to be a bit more specific than just info,'' I stated, ''You know how it works''. My face said it all, I like the core four, but they will not be exempted from paying the price.
''Here'' he slid me a piece of paper with his mark, ''show this, and you will be safe from the raids''. ''Jay,'' I warned him. ''Yeah, yeah, the secret you demand is also in it,'' he said with a sigh. ''Pleasure doing business with you,'' I said, smirking. ''Their next target might be the little girl Evie is so fond of, or they are going to try the bargain castle itself'' I said, ''They haven't decided yet''. ''When'' Jay asked. ''Soon, probably sometime tomorrow after midnight,'' I said. ''Shit,'' Jay cursed. His face showed a change from excitement for the upcoming fight to a somewhat stressed look. Protecting their territory was a big deal; without it, they would lose followers and, with that, also income.
''Go, I understand,'' I said. Even though I wasn't part of their crew or their followers, they were my best customers. ''Just make sure to stay out of the way,'' Jay said before turning on his heels and sprinting off, parkouring to where the others were. I rolled my eyes, for as much as they like to deny it, they care for those in their territory. ''Breanna'' someone hissed. ''What is it, Freddy'' I whispered, keeping my back to her. She was standing in the building below me, speaking to me through the cracks. ''The Huns are in dispute with the witches, they attacked the school, plus there some disputes in Uma's crew the couple is not together anymore'' She said in a hushed tone. ''Good job Freddie, keep your eyes and ears open,'' I said, slipping her old protection of mine. ''This should keep the core four out of your families hair for a while,'' I said. I heard the silent footsteps, and she was gone.
You might have guessed it already, but I am an information broker, one of the best on the Ilse. It's just Freddy, her sister Celia and some of the little kids in need of protection, but we know every dirty little secret. The sun was going down, which meant I needed to get back to my spot. I walked moke over the roofs, slowly keeping my ears open. I had to stop ever so often to pick up on some conversations. Learning when the supply runs were, possible ambushes or even who's sleeping with who. I always took a long meandering path taking me through the different territories. I jumped down near the goblin wharf, needing to swipe some food. I double-checked to see if any of the people on the streets were looking at the storages.
I swiped some half-rotten apples and a bit of bread. ''Well, well, well, what do we have 'ere'' an accented voice called from behind me. ''harry'' I said, swallowing thickly, ''what do you want''. ''The same as anyone,'' he teased, raking his hook through my hair, and I flinched back. ''Oh shut it,'' I said, trying to walk away. ''oh no, ye don' get to go yet,'' he said, stepping in from of me. ''Let me go,'' I demanded in the steadiest voice I could manage. ''I need information,'' Harry said. ''About what'' I shot back. ''Oh, would' ye like to know, huh'' He said, taking a step forward. I took one back, and little by little, he forced me back against the wall. I hissed a bit as my bruised back hit the wall. We never broke eye contact the entire time. ''I need to know what you're looking for; otherwise, I do not know how to answer your questions,'' I shot back. ''Don't cha wanna play ome more'' he asked, sliding the curve of his hook along my cheek. ''That never ends well,'' I shot back to him. His eyes flashed with recognition. ''Fine, I need to know where the Core four are going to be tonight; I might drop in and surprise them,'' He said, his sadistic grin is coming out. "I need to know what you told them, or might hook ya'', He said in his most threatening voice. I cowered back; the chills ran up my spine. I barely contained the fear bubbling inside. ''I can't, and you know that client confidentiality,'' I shot back before flinching back from him as he hit forward once again. ''What are you willing to pay? I know some easy targets,'' I said, gaining back some confidence. ''Oh, I o'er heard some minor villains, something regardin' the wolves,'' He said, smirking, placing his hand next to my head. He locked me in place with his hook against my shoulder. I flinched back, fighting the urge to recoil and collapse. ''Fine, the Huns will be making a move on the witches school tonight. Their territory will lie up for grabs,'' I said with more confidence than I thought I could muster. Harry began laughing, his wicked yet oh so fantastic laugh. ''Those guys really aren't smart, are they'' He said, whirling away from me. He was full of glee in the face of taking more territory. ''Now my payment,'' I said. ''Fine,'' he sighed, 'he has started to hunt again''. He watched as my eyes grew wide; the wolves, the big bad wolf, is hunting again. Terror rolled through me, almost taking my mind completely.
''Lass'' Harry asked, shaking me from my thoughts. I didn't respond; instead, I sprang into account, fleeing the warehouse. By the time I got back to my home, I was a ball of nerves. Harry always had that effect on me, but to say they were hunting again. No! It cannot be accurate. No amount of secrets is going to protect me against them. My breathing sped up, my heart was pounding and it took everything not to collapse just across the doorway. I couldn't breathe, my mind was racing. They couldn't find me, if they did. No, no, No. My mind flashed with memories of that night and any other since. My sight began to blur, black dots dancing around. My mind swam, and I staggered back as I tried to lock my door. I was shaking so badly, I couldn't lock it. I have to lock the door was the last thing I thought before I collapsed the pain in my chest exploded. I laid on the ground, still unable to breath, or calm my beating hard. ''Bree'' I voice shouted as my mind went black.
