I don't own these characters; DC does. I also don't own Jurassic World, which is mentioned here.

Day 3 Prompt: Mistaken Identity/In Disguise

3: Suit

Lena hated this blonde wig, but it did the job. For some reason, no one ever noticed she was Lena Luthor with the short, blond cut. Of course, the color contacts and glasses probably helped. She had stepped out of the office today, wanting to get Alex a gift for their month anniversary, but she also did not want to be spotted in the flower shop as it would lead to a lot of speculation about her relationship status that she did not want to deal with at the moment.

It would seem no matter what world it was, paparazzi were always annoying. She did not want her relationship with Alex splashed across every news website, social media outlet, and blog while they were still feeling each other out. Things were good, but they were young and she was not sure how Alex would react to the spotlight. Alex did big things, but she did not have to worry over the world knowing. That's probably a conversation we should have soon.

"Good morning, ma'am, how can I help you?" the young man behind the counter asked with a grin and Lena breathed a sigh of relief. The wig was working.

Lena needed a certain bouquet and she needed to smell it before she purchased it, which was why she was in the shop rather than just buying the flowers online or leaving the task to Jess. Alex had a thing for how she smelled and she often buried her nose in Lena's neck after kissing her. So, she wanted Alex to have the smell, at least for a few days, without having to cling to Lena twenty hours a day, not that Lena would mind that.

So, Lena explained the situation to the clerk in the sense that she needed specific types of flowers and they started moving around the place to put together the right combination. It was going fairly well until the television in the corner went from displaying a cooking show to breaking news.

The clerk groaned. "More aliens…" He shook his head as they looked at bipedal lizards roaring on camera. There was chaos in the streets as people fled to get away from them.

Lena shook her head. "No, I think that might be mad science at work."

He nodded. "Now that I look at it, yup, has a Jurassic World kinda feel to it, right?"

"That's one way to describe it," she replied.

It was giant lizards screeching and destroying things for a few seconds until several of the creatures used something like a sonic roar and crumbled a building right before their eyes. Please, don't have anything to do with Cadmus.

"That would be kinda cool if it wasn't hurting people," the clerk said.

"I completely agree," Lena replied.

Of course, the Superfriends arrived shortly after, trying to wrangle what might be over a dozen monsters and get people to safety. It looked like things were going well until Sentinel put herself in between a lizard and Martian Manhunter. The lizard would have gotten Martian Manhunter in the back if it had not been for Sentinel, but she took the entire attack, a sonic roar sending her flying across the street until a car halted her flight. Lena gasped and her mouth refused to close as Alex lay limp, sprawled halfway in the car, halfway on the car.

Lena rushed out of the shop without thinking. She needed to get to Alex. Yes, she knew J'onn and Kara would take care of her, but she still needed to be by Alex's side as soon as possible.

The Tower's tiny medical room got a lot of use since setting the world right on Lex. It was not Alex's first time using it as a patient. She probably got the most use out of it. Which is why I should probably invest in a more comfortable cot. Of course, the painkillers helped make up for the cot's lack of cushion, but they needed a little more mattress than what they got.

A subtle aroma wafted through the air that helped keep Alex calm better than the painkillers. It filled her nose and settled deep in her chest. Lena.

"Alex!" Kara grabbed her into a hug, overpowering the painkillers as she squished Alex's exhausted muscles.

Alex groaned, too tired to scream from the pain. "Kara…"

Kara yelped and jumped back. "Sorry!" She put her hands up in surrender.

Alex sighed. "It's okay." She settled onto the pillow. Even the pillow was less than desirable. It was too flat. Too many heads too often in so little time. "I feel like I've been thrown out of a five story window."

"Close. You broke your leg." Kara sat down in the chair by the cot and pointed to Alex's leg. Except, she floated over the chair, as she sometimes did.

Alex lifted up enough to look down at her leg. There was no cast on it, or even searing agony. There was a dull, deep throb. "Brainy?"

"He and J'onn were able to set your leg and Brainy has all the science files from DEO in his memory. He found a healing thing you were working on and managed to fill in the gaps. So, he wrapped your leg in whatever the goo was and said you should be fine in, like, a week."

Alex chuckled. "It's a salve, not a goo." She sighed. "I forgot I was working on that." She could not even remember how far she got on it. It was definitely not in the "human testing" phase, so Brainy must have finished it long before trying it on her.

Kara gave her a small, sort of proud smile. "He said you have a lot of good work saved, but so much of it is unfinished."

Alex shrugged. "I didn't have the time." She had a lot of big dreams, but rogue aliens did not wait for science.

Kara nodded. "Maybe you should make the time now. You're not working for the DEO anymore. It's gone. You have time. You can finish those things, start new things, and make so much great stuff. You could do it."

Alex sighed. Technically, now, she did have the time. She had just been so focused on being a hero, saving the world, saving her friends. So much had been going on, but maybe it was all a distraction for her. A way for her to not focus on the lack of direction her life now had. The world felt like it was spinning, like it was coming apart again. She shook her head, trying to clear her mind.

"You okay?" Kara asked.

Alex blinked and rubbed her eyes. "Lena's gonna be so pissed at me." They were supposed to go to dinner, but that was definitely off the table.

Kara snickered and floated upside down for a moment before righting herself. "Yup."

"It's our anniversary, too."

Kara winced. "Well…"

Alex groaned and covered her face with her palm. "I've been in and out of consciousness and missed it, didn't I?" Lena should kill her for this. Alex had actually been looking forward to the anniversary for weeks. She booked them a couple's rock climbing session, so Lena could boast about how good she was and then Alex could let her win in a race to the top.

Kara's face was red, like she was ready to burst out laughing. "Yup."

"So… super pissed at me." Alex blew out a breath. Well, I guess I would've had to grovel for something eventually. It might as well be for this.

Kara nodded. "You being okay might lessen things, but she said something about how she keeps telling you to stop throwing yourself in front of stuff. I kinda agree with her."

Alex frowned. "You agree with her?"

"Alex, you threw yourself in between J'onn and a sonic blast. If you just called his name, he could've phased through it. You didn't need to do that."

Alex shook her head. "I did. He wouldn't have been able to react fast enough if I called out to him. There's too much room for error there and I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if something happened to him, to any of you."

Kara moved closer, eyes glistening. "And how do you think he feels knowing you got all bruised up and broken jumping in front of things for him?"

"Better me than him." Alex would never be able to forgive herself if she lost any more people, especially any more of them. She had to be on her toes.

Kara scowled, like she had just said something heinous. "How do you figure that?" She waved a hand around. "None of us think it's 'better you.'"

Alex scoffed. "Because I'm some fragile little human."

"Of course not!" Kara leaned down and kissed her cheek. "It's because you're Alex and we love you and we get to be there for you, too. It's not all on you."

"Now, you sound like Lena. You two worked this out?" Alex asked.

"No, but after I finish telling you, J'onn's gonna come in and tell you, too. He's also gonna tell you that you need to start doing more than just this. And, when he's done, Nia's gonna come in with ice cream and we're gonna eat it while she tells you the same thing. And, then Brainy's gonna come in and make it weird about the ice cream and tell you in his own way that you're important and you can't keep doing just this," Kara replied.

Kara turned out to be right. She just forgot about M'gann also coming in with more ice cream. Then, all was quiet and the room emptied out when Lena stepped through the door. She sat in the chair Kara had occupied. She crossed her legs at the knees and watched Alex, who watched Lena back. It was hard to tell how upset she was, but Alex could feel the anger radiating from Lena. Come on, get it over with.

"I'm sorry I upset you," Alex said.

Lena's face did not change. "That's why you're sorry?"

Alex sighed. "I can't be sorry about anything else. I know you don't want me throwing myself in between threats and the others, but I just react in the field and those are my reactions. Sometimes, you just have to react."

Lena let out a long exhale through her nose and put a hand on Alex. "I know. I know. But, you're throwing yourself out there like you don't have anything to live for."

Alex shook her head. "It's just the opposite. I want to protect the things I have to live for."

Lena smiled. "We all do." She ran her fingers along Alex's knuckles.

Alex smiled back. She understood. Everyone helped her understand. She just did not know what to do with that information. "I'm not going to stop."

"We know."

"So, what to do?" Alex asked.

Lena grinned. "So, Brainy and I were talking…"

"Your other best friend." People thought she and Lena "science'd" well together, but Lena and Brainy were the real sight to behold. It was rare Alex found herself feeling intellectually stupid, but sometimes being in a room with them was like she just did not speak the language. She liked it more often than not. It was good Lena had people to talk to.

Lena rolled her eyes. "Anyway, we'd like to design you a new Sentinel suit."

Alex scowled. "There's nothing wrong with my suit." Her suit was the youngest out of them all. It did not need replacing.

Lena scoffed. "Aside from the fact that you keep putting holes in it. What we really want is to give you something state of the art. Something that can withstand you jumping in front of your super-powered cohorts, or standing up to super-powered dinosaurs, or criminal aliens, or any combination thereof. We have ideas, but I want your permission. Also, your medical records."

Alex snorted. "Let's be serious. We both know Brainy has already pulled up my medical files."

"He did."

"And you already started on a new suit."

"I did."

"And I want in."

Lena blinked. "You do?"

"Everyone keeps saying I need something to do beyond this and I think they're right. Since I started dating you, I've been able to occupy my time with you and relearn how to relax. I think I need to relearn how to work. The DEO is gone, but I still need something to do."

Lena caressed her fingers. "Do you have any idea what you want to do?"

"No, but I think I'm going to look at some of my old research and try to follow through on some things. Apparently, Brainy finished up a formula I had been working on to accelerate the healing process. Do you know when I started that formula?"

"When?"

"I started it six years ago. I stopped working on it, thinking about it really, five years ago. Do you know how many projects I've started and just let fall to the wayside as being an agent got in the way? I played around in my lab and was never serious about it unless it had to do with a case. I never lived up to my true potential as a scientist because I was so focused on being an agent."

Lena nodded. "Well, now you have the time to be a scientist now. And, lemme just say personally, I am a huge fan of Scientist Alex. I also like Doctor Alex." She grinned and wiggled her eyebrows.

Alex laughed and then groaned as the laugh turned into a cough. "No, don't make me laugh. There's a dull pain just underneath the painkillers."

"Maybe you should also work on developing better painkillers."

"I'll put it on my list. So, when do I get to get out of the infirmary? Do I get to go home and experience Doctor Lena?" Alex gave what she knew was a dopey grin. She could not control her face. She was ready to go to sleep, but she wanted to spend time with Lena. She gasped. "I slept through our anniversary!"

Lena chuckled. "It's fine. It's not like you did it on purpose. I was more worried about you than anything else. Hopefully, there will be more."

"I plan on it."

"I do as well. I want to be clear about something, Alex. I know you and I know what you do, so I'm not going to be upset if you miss a date with me because you're out saving someone or the city or the world on occasion. That's important to you and it's important. I will be upset if you forget in general, as if I'm not important to you."

"You are very important to me, Lena. So important I was going to let you beat me in a rock climbing race for our anniversary."

Lena laughed. "Well, aren't you sweet? But, I wouldn't need you to let me. I am in peak physical condition, as you well know." She adjusted Alex's blankets and kissed her forehead. "For now, rest up and maybe you'll get some Doctor Lena if you're good."

Alex snickered and then drifted off to sleep with Lena stroking her fingers. It was nice. Things were nice. She had some stuff to set straight, but Lena was there and that was enough for now.

-8-8-8-8-

Lena and Brainy high-fived in Lena's private lab at L-Corp. It was late and everyone had gone home. They had made this their business since Alex went down. Alex mostly slept, especially through the night, so Lena had a lot of free time on her hands. Brainy joined her whenever Nia was out on patrol. They had worked hard and fast and created a gem if anyone bothered to ask her.

"It really is a work of art and usually as a rule I don't get art beyond techniques," Brainy said.

"I think you nailed, my friend," she replied.

They had gone above and beyond with the suit and just stared at it as it hung on the mannequin. They had really outdone themselves, but it was very different from Alex's other Sentinel suit. This one was blacker. Lena wanted to go back more to Alex's tactical gear and work from there. And, of course, there was a mask, because they agreed it was ridiculous for Alex to run around with her face uncovered, not just because of her identity, but injuries. The mask also allowed them to add so many more things to the outfit.

"Should we call her in?" Lena asked as she circled the mannequin. Starting from the bottom, they had black boots with reinforced shin guards and kneepads. All black with teal outlining each piece. Black pants, form fitting, but way more forgiving than her other pants, and also reinforced. Two thigh holsters held special guns. Alex would appreciate them, even though she relied exclusively on the Hand of the Soldier now.

"Do you think it's ready for that?" Brainy asked as he stepped over too. He shifted the utility belt for no reason. It shifted the lightweight armor they had on the sides to protect Alex's thighs. Those were black and outlined in teal, connecting to the black, bulletproof top. There was a teal outline, like the outside of the House of El symbol, but the inside was blank. They wanted to connect Alex to Kara, but could not make the jump as to saying she represented the House of El.

"I think it's as ready as it's going to get. Besides, I owe her an anniversary gift," Lena said.

Brainy stared at her. "What anniversary?"

"Two months."

He tapped his chin. "I should see if Nia would like to celebrate an anniversary."

Lena chuckled. "I'm sure you two have celebrated plenty. Don't spring a random anniversary on the girl, Brainy. That's just nerve-wracking."

She and Alex had decided on celebrating the second because they had missed the first. Alex took her out shooting, which was always fun, then they had dinner, and capped off the night with some fun in bed. As far as gifts went, Alex offered her the notes of her very first finished project from working in the Tower. It was a small thing. She had figured out how to differentiate between different alien species that had similar DNA, but were from entirely different galaxies. It would be good with helping just identifying aliens if they were not able to tell who they were. It was good for Alex, getting her back to be more like herself.

She pulled out her phone and texted Alex. Hey, if you can, come by to my lab. I want to show you something.

"Should we work on how we'll present it? I mean, this is practically a work of art. It would not be wrong to hang this in the MOMA or Louvre," Brainy said.

"Maybe we should." Lena tapped the side of her face with her index finger. She was not sure how to do it, though.

"We could cover it and give a speech!" Brainy threw his hand up in his usual dramatic fashion.

Lena laughed. He was so incredible. She admired how he owned his awkwardness while also being completely oblivious to it. But, she enjoyed that she could rant and rave right along with him and he followed along. He seemed to appreciate the same about her, even though he occasionally lost even her in his whirling thoughts.

"You wanted me, babe?" Alex asked as she entered the lab. Lena and Brainy both jumped. They had not come up with a presentation plan.

"How did you get here so fast?" Lena rushed over to her while Brainy looked around, like he did not know where to go. He ended up standing in front of the mannequin while Lena greeted Alex with a kiss.

"I was actually outside. I was coming to see if you wanted to go to the movies with me. I needed a break from my work," Alex said, standing strong. No one would believe she broke her leg a month ago. The salve she started and Brainy finished was incredible.

"Put a pin in that. Brainy and I have a surprise for you." Lena put her arm around Alex's waist and spun her to face the mannequin. Brainy leaped out of the way, revealing the new costume.

Alex gasped as her mouth dropped open. "Is that for me?"

"Of course it's for you," Lena replied. "Do you like it?"

Alex did not answer. She practically ran over to the costume. "It looks like my old tact gear, but with new armor! This is awesome. Whoa! Look at this mask!" She grabbed the mask from the mannequin and placed it on her face. Brainy liked to call it something from "Mortal Kombat," but Lena had no idea what that meant, until Brainy showed her some characters from a video game. Apparently, the game still existed in his future.

The mask was black and teal. The teal covered her mouth and nose with two slits on the sides. The black part covered her eyes, eyebrows, and part of her forehead, with a teal lens to cover her eyes. It was intimidating to say the least, which was what Sentinel should be.

"Wait, these are goggles," Alex realized with a giggle.

"Not just any goggles!" Brainy threw his hands out and ran to her side. "You can see distances, thermo, through objects, find out what they're made of, and so many other things. The mask is also a gas mask. You can control everything with your voice, but also with controls we put on your vambrace." He held up the arm of the mannequin.

"Everything has been reinforced for heavy impacts. It should absorb a lot of energy that comes at you. It's bulletproof, fireproof, should regulate your body temperature in changing environments, so you don't get too hot or cold. Oh, and all of this goes with the outfit and the face mask," Lena said.

"Is that what you did with my data?" Alex asked.

Lena smiled. "You said you wanted to contribute and you had so many ideas on how to control body temperature. You saved us a lot of time on that."

"Can I put it on?" Alex practically vibrated with energy. It was cute to see, like it was Christmas morning and she needed to open her gift.

"Please!" Lena and Brainy both said, making excited fists. It was one thing to see it on a mannequin. It was another thing to see it on the person it was intended for.

Alex actually grabbed the entire mannequin and rushed off in a small room to the side. There was a lot of shuffling and swearing. Brainy and Lena looked at each other, but only Lena braved going closer to the door.

"You need any help, babe?" Lena asked through the door.

"Nope! I got too excited putting on the greaves and fell," Alex replied.

Lena snickered. "Careful. Everything should fit you perfectly, so you shouldn't have to struggle with it."

"No, it's all coming together great. I'll be out in a second."

Lena took her word and stepped back over to Brainy. Their breath hitched together as the door opened and then Alex stepped out. Lena could not believe her eyes. The suit definitely fit Alex like a glove. She rolled her shoulders in the jacket, making the teal shoulder and arm guards glint in the light. The black hood fit her looser than the hood of her other outfit, but it worked with the mask and high collar of her tactical gear underneath the jacket. Teal lined the inside of the hood.

"Do I really need the gloves?" Alex asked, holding up her hands, showing off her black, fingerless gloves.

"Oh, you'll love those." Brainy clapped as he marched over to her. "Each glove has knuckle bombs, electric charges, and I borrowed from Winn, the magnetic grip to call your guns back, but also help you stick to anything metal."

Alex nodded. "All of that sounds cool and important." She flipped her forearms, showing off the black vambraces. "I really like these. They're very light and flexible. The Hand of the Soldier tucks in nice with it."

"We agree you needed a lot of give there to make sure the Hand of the Soldier didn't chaff or rub the wrong way and aggravate your skin. We also didn't want to chance it possibly cutting into the armor or falling off," Lena replied.

"Also, in the vambraces, we put wires and grappling hooks. They should be strong enough to hold your weight," Brainy said.

"And this…" Alex tucked her fingers into her utility belt. "I saw some small throwing knives and smoke bombs, but nothing else."

"We actually didn't know what you might want to put in there. That's up to you and your hero tastes," Lena replied.

"Cool. So, can I go outside in this?" Alex sounded quite eager.

Lena laughed. "I knew you'd want to get a move on. You can go out. There's an earpiece. We talk you through anything you might need to know or stuff we'd like to test out."

They did not have to tell Alex twice. Sentinel was gone and Lena and Brainy had to rush to their computers to make sure they were getting readings and feedback from the suit. It took almost no time at all for Sentinel to find ways to test out the suit. They were up all night.

"Imagine if we could make these for everyone," Lena said.

"Thinking like a businesswoman instead of a scientist?" Brainy replied.

Lena groaned. "A weakness."

"Then, I suppose it's good we specifically worked this out for some in top physical condition like Alex. Not 'everyone' would be able to pull off these feats," he said. That was true.

-8-8-8-8-

Alex sat at the table and just wanted to eat her bagel in peace, but Lena hovered behind her, staring at her shoulders. She should have put on a t-shirt over her tank. Before she could tell Lena the bruises were not that bad — for the hundredth time — Kara flew into the penthouse. She waved around a newspaper.

"Can you believe this crap? A member of the Bat family is in National City and didn't even bother to say anything!" Kara slammed the paper on the table, shaking the dishes. On the front page showed a shadowy figure in black swinging from a wire between buildings. The headline had the nerve to say A Bat Sighting. "I bet it was Robin! He's so rude and I know that hood anywhere!"

Alex did not know whether to laugh or be insulted. "Wow, I was really careless last night if they got that good a picture of me." She had definitely had way too much fun in her new suit.

Kara blinked. "Picture of you?"

"That's Sentinel's new suit," Lena said.

Kara's mouth dropped open. "You got a new suit and went out in it and didn't even bother to call me? The betrayal!" She clutched her hands over her heart.

"It's like you're all part of some drama class I don't know anything about," Alex said.

"If you give me your bagel, I won't even ask about the bruises on your back." Kara grinned. Alex groaned and slid the bagel over to Kara.

Lena grinned. "Oh, good, you're done with breakfast, so we can tend to those bruises." She pulled Alex out of her chair.

Alex groaned again. "This feels like such a setup." But, she went off with Lena anyway.

-8-8-8-8-

Next time: Kara gives Lena an idea to add to Alex's suit.
