Three
ROSALIE
"Please," Alice pouts, "Just come out for half of a movie. He promises not to be rude to you."
"Alice, firstly I hate Harry Potter and I hate Emmett. Why would I sit out there and watch both of those things?" I sigh.
"Because it's awkward trying to snuggle up to Jasper with my brother there. I need the buffer," Alice pleads.
"Bella will be home soon," I glance at the clock, "make her your buffer."
"She won't do it. She and Edward have become sworn enemies too now. Besides she could take ages, you know she is never on time. Please," she begs, "I just need you to sit through one movie."
"Fine," I snap, "but you owe me."
"Deal," Alice claps bouncing from my room.
I follow her, grumpy, toward the lounge room. Without a glance at Emmett, I plop down on the couch beside Edward, pulling my feet up to cross my legs under me.
"Evening, Rose," Edward says, handing me an open beer.
Sometimes this man is a mind reader I swear. Perception made him the best captain this school had seen in decades.
"I needed this. Thanks," I take it slugging it back as I feel Emmett's eyes on me.
"We'll leave soon," Edward mutters to me, I can't help but notice him glancing back at the door.
Sighing I lean back into the lounge, relaxing as much as I can.
"What movie is it?" I ask.
"Harry Potter," Emmett says.
"No shit. I mean which one?" I sigh.
"It's the last one," Alice smiles.
She's dangled a leg over Jasper's lap, covering them both with a blanket. I hope they're being behaved under it. Not a war I'm keen to watch Edward fight and most likely win.
"Good. Draco will be hot," I say.
"Is that the kind of guy you're into?" Emmett asks.
"What? One with a personality? Sure thing," I shrug.
"Is that so it can outweigh your lack of it?" Emmett scoffs.
He grins at Edward hopeful for backup. He doesn't get it. Edward knows better.
"Expect to do extra drills at practice tomorrow," I motioned to him with the neck of my beer before taking a swig.
"It's just cause you like the idea of me all hot and sweaty," Emmett winks at me, "fuck. I have to go."
"Why?" Edward glares at him.
"She just reminded me. Hot and sweaty. I have to be at Madison's in ten minutes," he stands.
"He can't go five minutes without wetting his small dick," I roll my eyes.
"Ain't nothing small about me Princess. You're welcome to check," he grabs up his phone and wallet, "I can stay with you of course. Madison doesn't meet all of my needs if you get what I'm saying."
"I do and I don't want to get what you're saying," I hold my hand up in disgust.
"Suit yourself. Alice thank you for a marvelous evening," he heads out of the room.
"So is Madison your girlfriend?" Alice asks.
"Please. I'd never have one of those," he shakes his head, "I'm not a tie him down kind of guy."
"Charming," I mutter.
"Or maybe you haven't found the right girl with the right rope," Jasper suggests.
"Edward gets me right?" Emmett says.
"I just don't have time for a girlfriend. You just like your slutty lifestyle," Edward shakes his head, "I'm watching the rest of the movie. Take your time cause I know you forgot your keys. I hate when you break in too."
"I'll go slow," he winks heading out, "I'm never fast."
"Gross," I shake my head.
As he exits our third roommate enters. She gives Emmett a polite nod before coming into the room carrying her bag and coat. I'm unsure if she is refusing to glance up because of our company, or because she is just genuinely flustered.
"How many times can drunk cheerleaders sing 'simply the best' before it gets annoying?" She sighs, kicking her shoes off.
Edward stiffens slightly watching her.
She still hasn't acknowledged our company. Emmett didn't click for her. She hadn't realised there would be more. If she did she didn't show it at all. Poor thing must be tired.
"The answer is once," she says.
"Sorry to hear your shift was shitty," Alice says, "we're just watching Harry Potter. Join us. There's pizza in the microwave for you."
"Thanks, Ali-cat," he says walking into the kitchen.
She didn't even glance our way as she stalked into the kitchen.
"I'll see if she needs a hand," Edward stands.
"To use the microwave?" I smirk.
"Quiet or I'll bring Emmett back here," Edward heads toward the kitchen, casually sauntering into the space when Bella had gone to.
"So what's the deal with Em? Did he shit in your cereal?" Jasper asks me.
"Something like that," I shrug, "No one really knows this, but we had a date last year and it all went super well. We were super into each other. But then he suddenly started ignoring me, dating other chicks. I thought we had an understanding but I was literally just another hole in his belt. I felt like such an idiot finally caving to his begging for a date, just for him to shit all over it."
"Shit. That stinks," Jasper shakes his head, "I don't know why so many hockey guys think they're gods. I'm sorry on behalf of my gender."
Alice smiles at him, adoringly. She's looking at him as if he is Thor. Maybe he kinda deserves it.
"Since it's been super cold and we've managed to keep talking to one another at a minimum. Until he fucking took my chocolate," I say, "I just never understood what went wrong. I thought we clicked. It was just one date, so I guess I shouldn't be too sour. I just like to bring him down several pegs. Dad prizes him just as much as Edward."
"He took that chocolate, by the way," Alice smirks, "I'll buy you more tomorrow."
Before I can let my anger fester, Bella strolls into the room smiling to herself, ignoring the laughing man following her like a sick puppy. She sits beside me, throwing a blanket beside her over the both of us. Scooting down I place my head on her shoulder, snuggling into my friend as Alice hits play on the remote.
"I think living with you two was a mistake in my judgment," Bella whispers to me.
"Why?" I ask.
"The rate of hockey players increased. Coach's daughter, captain's sister. I'm surrounded," she says, "I don't date jocks."
"Anything's better than Jake right?" I nudge her side lightly with my forearm.
"Don't even bring it up," she groans, "he still keeps texting me. He said he only cheated on me because he was drunk. But then followed it up with, 'I only had one shot' meaning he was sober."
"What a pig," I scowl, "you deserve way better."
Bella did deserve the best. She was incredible. I was so amazed by her daily. She worked incredibly hard and put both Alice and me to shame when it came to studying. She was the glue that held our small house together. The lights and water were kept on because of her.
Jake had cheated on her before the Summer break and we'd spent most of it trying to pick up the pieces he broke. Even though we were separated across several states. But now the woman before us barely had a single battle scar left. She simply got up and got on with it.
"So you guys have become enemies, Alice said," I motion to Edward when he's not paying attention.
"Basically. But the polite term is assignment partners," she shrugs, "I'm sure I'm going to get stuck pulling all the weight and he'll get back on the ice thanks to me. I'm basically Elsa, turning the ground beneath him into something he can skate on."
Unable to help myself I burst into laughter, gripping my torso. She smiles watching me enjoy her joke. Our fellow movie watches shoot us confused looks.
"Share with the rest of the class," Alice says.
"You had to be there," Bella bites her lip glancing at me.
It's enough to send my fits of laughter deeper, only encouraging Bella to join in.
"What a failure this all was," Alice sighs with a smile at Jasper, "next time don't bring friends and I won't bring mine either."
"Deal," Edward interupts.
