Night 2: Slytherin Camp
The group was quiet when they got back to camp, as they usually were. They already had to let go of one of their teammates. Granted, she was extremely annoying and they were probably better off, but that didn't take away from the fact that they were already one person down. By the time they got back to camp, no longer with their wands, the fire was the only light out, not even the moon being able to shine through the clouds in the sky. However, despite how quiet it was, the silence was about to be shattered by the sound of the remaining female's voice.
"Look, guys, I know that we're all tired, and that was tough to go through, but we need to talk before we do anything else. Can we please do that?" Shannon pleaded. She stirred the kindling in the fire, causing the flames to reignite, much like her passion.
Grayson looked at her blankly with his yellow eyes, shimmering in the new light, but nodded. "Fine, let's just get this overwith. It'll be easier to talk anyway with Miss Rich Witch gone." As he said so, he sat in front of the fire across from Shannon. They both looked to Cole as the Brit stared at them, his hands in the pockets of his signature hoodie.
"Ugh, fine. You Americans just never know when to quit, do you?" He rolled his eyes, but sat on the log next to Harper and looked at them, guided by the light of the fire. "So what exactly do you wish to speak about?" He asked, crossing his arms.
Shannon took a deep sigh and spoke. "Guys, we really need communication. Not to insult Lara, but when she was here, she didn't do a thing. She didn't even talk to me. Well, she did when she was insulting me, but that only adds to my argument. If we are going to work together efficiently, we need to talk things out." She took a breath and leaned forward, her face being illuminated in a both holy and creepy light by the flames. "Now, I don't want to seem aggressive here, but if we don't get together and actually go through the motions of a team, we are all utterly screwed. I honestly don't care if we all like each other right now, although I hope we can at least function and not resent each other, but all I ask is that the three of us make an effort. I'm fully prepared to do so. All I want to make sure of is if you are."
The air was quiet after Shannon's monologue as the two boys each gathered their own thoughts. Finally, after what seems like forever, Grayson gave a small smile. "Fine. I guess that's reasonable. After all, if we keep losing, none of us will have a chance of winning." Shannon nodded and, once again, they looked to Cole to hear his answer.
He bit his lip, then spoke. "Oh, bother. Fine, fine. I don't know all about socializing and singing bloody Kumbaya like a load of American hippies, but it would be beneficial to at least talk to each other when we can. Is that suitable?"
Shannon nodded. "That's all I ask." She stood up and began dousing the fire. "Well, guys, its late, and we should go to sleep. We can't communicate well if we're tired, after all." The other two readily agreed and after the fire went out, they all went out as well, like a light, letting their newfound team building simmer in their minds.
Night 2 End/Day 3 Beginning
It was bright and early, the sun desperately trying to illuminate through the gray clouds in the sky. The 15 students came to the clearing where Tasha was waiting. The other tribes noticed the distinct lack of a member from the Slytherin tribe. The Slytherin's themselves, however, seemed to have a newfound confidence.
**Aw...someone's gone already...I never even got to give them a bracelet...Oh well, I can always do it at the finale. Everyone is going to be there, after all.-Ruby**
**After that talk last night, I think we are finally getting somewhere. Hopefully, we can actually work as a team and start winning challenges with something besides pure luck.-Shannon**
When the campers got to their usual spots, they noticed the new layout. In front of them were 15 Wizard hats. Not animated and talking like the one from Hogwarts, but rather regular old pointy hats that they sometimes wore at Graduations and such. Natasha stood behind the hats, looking chipper as always. "Good Morning, my Wondrous Wizards and Witches! Congrats on making it past two days. Only 37 more to go!" Her voice was so bright it almost seemed as if she wasn't being sarcastic on purpose, however doubtful that may have seemed. She held out her hands dramatically as she gestured to the hats in front of her. "As you can all clearly see, we have set out hats, one for each of you. What is the purpose of them, you may ask? Well, I actually have a surprise for you! We are doing a Tribal Swap!"
The sound of 15 jaws dropping simultaneously, silent as it may be, was what filled the air as the wizards tried to comprehend this.
**What?-Ophelia**
**Please tell me she's joking.-Mia**
**After all my hard work, trying to get this team back on track...they go and do THIS to me?-Shannon**
**Yay! I get to socialize after all!-Ruby**
Natasha smiled in glee at their shock as she spoke. "One by one, you will all pick a hat and stand in front of it. Once everyone has done so, I will give a signal for all of you to pick up your hats. Seven of them have a red rock under them, seven of them have a blue rock, and one has a gray rock. The people who have rocks of the same color will be in their new tribes. The one who has a gray rock will be in Exile until the next reward challenge, joining the team who loses the immunity challenge before. Does anyone have any questions?"
Sky rose her hand and looked at the redhead with a look of skepticism. "I'm sorry, but I have to ask: Why did you choose literally the most cliché symbol of magic ever?" She questioned, gesturing with contempt at the hats.
The host simply shrugged. "I just do what the producers want. May it be low budget or simply to annoy all of you, I have no idea." She was clearly enjoying this, a big smirk on her face and Sky simply rolled her eyes and grumbled.
"Any more questions?" No one spoke, so the host clapped her hands together. "Perfect! Now, going from my left to my right, please all pick a hat. And don't stress over the decision please. I don't want to be standing here all day."
With Laurence being the first and Spencer being the last, soon the 15 students all stood in front of a hat. "Okay, on the count of 3, raise your hats!" yelled out the Irishwoman. "One, two...three!"
Fifteen hats rose as varied reactions occurred. Once everyone had seen their rock, Tasha yelled out again. "Okay, anyone with red rock, go to my left!" She held out her left hand to where the students had stood before with a new red banner flying in the wind. "And if you have a blue rock, go to my right!" When she pointed her right hand, a new dark light blue banner had appeared.
**How did no one notice those?-Nina**
Mikey slowly raised his hand. "Um, Ms. Tasha, what about me? I got the gray rock." Tasha simply gave him a sympathetic smile and patted to her left.
"You can come stand next to me for the moment, Mike." The Hufflepuff perked up and ran over to her as the groups got under their new tribe banners. Under the red flag were Jordan, Cole, Laurence, Mia, George, Luke, and Spencer, while the kids under the blue banner were Ophelia, Nina, Grayson, Shannon, Ruben, Ruby, and Skyler. As the newly formed tribes got situated, they were already judging by first impressions.
**I got to stay on the same team as Luke! Oh, maybe fate does exist!-Jordan**
**As long as me and Grayson stay together, we should be fine. I don't want to leave Cole out to dry, but he's not on my team anymore. He wasn't exactly the most cooperative anyway.-Shannon**
**jingling her bracelets Oh, I'm definitely going to be passing these out today!-Ruby**
**Oh no...I have to get along with five new people... I was barely able to break out of my shell with my own team, so how am I going to work well with five new people...-Spence**
Once both of the tribes were together, the redheaded host called out. "Let me be the first to say welcome to your new tribes! Also, since you are in new tribes, you need new names! Ready to hear them?" Not waiting for an answer, she continued. "The tribe under the red flag will be known as...The Phoenix Tribe!" Suddenly, a literally blazing phoenix with its wings outstretched appeared on the red banner. The effect caught everyone's attention, but Tasha paid it no mind as she went on. "And for the tribe under the blue banner, they will now be known as...the Centaur Tribe!" A centaur magically appeared on the blue flag, prancing in place and holding its bow. Again, the effect surprised the students.
"From this moment on, these will be your tribes until we hit the merge." She put a hand on Mikey's shoulder. "Young lad Mike here will be joining one of these after the next elimination. Until then, he will be in Exile, cut off from the competition. Does anyone have any questions about anything?" No one raised their hand, so Tasha shouted in glee. "Great! That concludes today's challenge. For now, you will be led to your new camps, and don't worry, they are already set up, and you can relax for the rest of the day and socialize! Now, off with you." She made a shooing gesture as the tribes were led away, leaving Mikey and Tasha alone.
"Um...do I just go or...?" began Mikey. Tasha held a finger to his lips.
"Follow me, child. I will lead you to the helicopter which will take you to Exile." With that, she walked off. After a moment of staring, Mikey quickly ran after her, the shock passing and excitement taking its place.
The newly formed Phoenix Tribe was quiet as they walked to the campsite, as seemed to be a custom, and sure enough, it was furnished and all set up, just as Tasha had said. Once everyone had arrived, however, they didn't know what to do...that is until the ever chipper white-haired one spoke up.
"Well, since we'll all be on a team together for a while, I figure we should introduce ourselves, right?" She flashed a smile that was subtly directed at Luke, but no one really noticed. "In fact, I'll go first, just to kick it off!" The Muggle-born gave a dramatic bow and stood up straight, her infectious smile ever-present. "I'm Jordan Sharpe! I'm a Gryffindor, my parents are both regular people and...I'm a Gemini!" She closed out as everyone just stared at her...
**Typical mudblood...-Cole**
**No offense to the poor girl, but I wouldn't be so upfront. Some people could see that transparency as weak and...expose it cryptic smile-Mia**
**She seems nice enough...-Spencer**
After her introduction, there was a momentary silence before Luke sighed. "I guess I'll go next." He said as she grinned, somewhat sheepishly. "I'm Luke Gardner, I'm also a Gryffindor, I'm an American and...I play football back home...yeah, that's pretty much it, I guess." Then he quietly stepped back as Jordan gave loud applause, prompting a few others, though certainly not as loud as her.
**Oh, Luke, how I love thee, let me count the ways! Number on-Jordan**
**I wish I could play sports. I tried to do golf once...couldn't take all the walking...-Laurence**
**Jordan seems...to be close with Luke...I wonder exactly how close...-George**
As her former teammate finished, Mia stepped up, taking charge. "My name is Mia Houghten, I'm 16, I'm British, as if you couldn't tell from the accent, and like my companions, I'm also a Gryffindor." Quickly as she had started, she stopped, stepping back to her spot.
**That was...stoic-George**
**Three Gryffs? I don't like the sound of that...they could take over this team like that snaps fingers if given the chance.-Cole**
**Of course my rival is here...if she even looks at Luke, she is out. I need to keep a watchful eye on her-Jordan**
After the Gryfinndors, the British Ravenclaw stepped up, clearing his throat. "Well, hello all. My name is George Pearson, and while I may not look it, I'm a Ravenclaw. I'm also British, and I'm a big fan of Survivor, actually." George gave a natural smile and a short bow before stepping back. Spence gave a couple slightly loud claps, making a few people jump, but George just gave a kind smile and nodded.
**I'm glad that at least I know George. I really hope he stays for a while. I don't want to be all alone...-Spence**
**He's studied Survivor? Interesting...very interesting-Mia**
**Yikes, even a Ravenclaw seems better physically than me...why do I have to be so stubborn?-Laurence**
Filled with a bit of confidence, Spencer piped up, adjusting his glasses nervously, even as his eyes stared at the ground. "Um, if I may have your attention, I'd like to go. I'm Spence Holland, I am 17 years old, I am a Ravenclaw and, I'm, uh, not very social..." Spence trailed off, fidgeting with his hands, but looked up at them, saw the thumbs up from George, smiled, and stepped back.
**He seems like a nice enough guy. Not sure how his awkwardness will bode for team challenges, though.-Luke**
**Hm, someone who can alienate himself from a group even more than myself...I sense a scapegoat...smirks-Cole**
**Oh. My. Gosh. This guy is adorable. I'm sure I'll be able to get him out of his comfort zone. Make him more confident like Lukey. He seems like he needs the help.-Jordan**
After both Ravenclaws went, the Huff took a deep breath of the natural air and stepped forward into the makeshift circle. "Hi. Um, I'm Laurence Clark. I'm a Hufflepuff. And, well, if you couldn't tell from my inhaler, I have asthma. But, I won't let that slow me down, I promise!" He gave a small smile and stood back, taking a breath from his inhaler after his introduction.
**Hm, I've never met anyone with asthma. He seems a bit...frail, but I can't get that look of fire in his eyes out of my head. I feel like I need to watch this guy a bit...-Luke**
**This kid will be a tougher competition than I previously thought. He'll easily gain sympathy, so I bet unless he royally screws up, no one will dare to vote him out.-Mia**
**Me and Laurence seem to be in...similar situations, considering we're both pretty...weak. Maybe we can get along?-Spencer**
Finally, after the rest of the group had gone, six sets of eyes looked at the final member of the group. Groaning from his place leaning against a tree, arms crossed, he spoke succinctly. "Bloody name's Cole. I'm a Slytherin. And if you stay on my good side, I'll stay on yours. Is that clear?" A few heads nodded in response and Cole took note, nodding in return.
**Um...okay.-Luke**
**Not gonna lie, that guy is creepy...-Laurence**
**Statistically speaking, I'd say he's most likely to be voted out next, leaving only two Slytherins, neither on this team. However, I'm not sure if that's the smartest decision once Merge hits...-George**
After that, everyone had introduced themselves and most were unsure what to do, until a certain British Gryffindor decided to take charge. "Well, I think we should all relax for now and do whatever see fit, whether that be socializing, resting, working out, whatever suits you. Just keep in mind, we have no idea what's about to be thrown at us, so don't tire yourselves out." She turned back and went to one of the tents, clearly claiming it, and as she stepped inside looked over her shoulder, commenting. "That will be all." then went in, closing it off.
The remaining Phoenixes stood in shock for a second at the unofficial leader, but slowly trickled away either in small groups or pairs or by themselves. This team was abit of everything, half being big personalities and the other socially awkward in every sense, but maybe it could work...or they would just easily crumble until a cohesive theme formed...
The Centaurs were pretty cheerful as several skipped back to camp. Once they all had arrived, several wasted no time talking...specifically, Ruby, Shannon, Nina, and Ophelia. It sounded a bit like this, except all at the same time in the span of five seconds and all taking over each other.
"Hi, everyone, first off, everyone take a bracelet!"
"Hola, all, I'd like to welcome you all to the new tribe!"
"Okay, first off, I'd like to make sure we all understand the importance of communication."
"Unless anyone wants to step up, I'm going to take charge as the leader, any concerns?"
Once they all realized they were talking over each other, they all got quiet for a moment, and looked at the others, as if sizing their competition up. Eventually, someone else unexpected spoke.
"I think we should all stand in a circle, introduce ourselves one by one, and take up approximately one minute to say what we have to say. Any disagreements?" Skyler asked as she offered up her solution. After they all thought for a moment, everyone else nodded, a few smiling. Once they all agreed, they stood in a circle around the fire ring, starting with Ruby, then Shannon, Ophelia, Nina, Ruben, Grayson, and finally Skyler. Ruby, being at the head, began the exercise.
"Well, hi everyone! I'm Ruby Cardinal, I'm a Hufflepuff, I'm also Canadian, and I want to spend the rest of my time giving out friendship bracelets, if that's allowed?" She looked to Skyler standing next to her, who nodded simply as Ruby gave a winning smile and went around to everyone. She gave Shannon one with a diamond, skipped Ophelia, although she did stop to look at the moon bracelet she had given her already, then one with a pinata for Nina, a football for Ruben, an owl for Grayson, and Skyler got a pair of glasses. Finally, she went back to her spot and curtsied, getting a round of applause as everyone studied their bracelets which they placed on various body parts.
**Oh my gosh, that Ruby is the cutest little niná. And I love her bracelet, it's so adorable! I feel like we'll get along perfectá-Nina**
**This girl is just...a little too trusting. I won't hold that against her, but I feel as if that would be unwise in this kind of game-Skyler**
**Ruby, from what I can tell, is going to be dangerous. She's physical enough to do well in challenges, and she's great socially. I can only hope she's a nitwit and messes up somehow, because otherwise, she'll skate by in this competition.-Ophelia**
After Ruby, the next in the circle went. Shannon stepped with her long leg and spoke confidently. "Hello, all. My name is Shannon Soloman and I'm a Slytherin. I'd like to use my time to explain why my former team fell apart. See, Lara was a total pain in the butt, honestly. She was stuck up and didn't talk with us at all. So, I don't want that mistake to be repeated and get, if nothing else, this one thing through to everyone; communication is important. If this team does not communicate effectively, no matter how smart or physically able we are, we will get nowhere fast. So, please, I hope that we can all talk things through and not feel the need to think that any idea is too stupid or whatever. If we all agree on something, then that'll be best for the whole team. So, yeah, let's all talk things out like...this I guess. Thank you." As she stepped back from another of her speeches, there was silence...then a round of applause from everyone. She tried not to blush.
**Y'know, I've never really noticed how...passionate Shannon is. She's so determined on helping the team and everything and I know that as long as I stand by her, I...no, we can both go far.-Grayson**
**Well, there's goes my chance at being appointed leader. I either need to sit back and obey this rubbish girl or make sure she isn't...here to lead...evil smirk-Ophelia**
**Shannon is so sweet! And considerate. She deserves that bracelet, because she's like a real...I think the phrase is 'diamond in the rough'?-Ruby**
After the applause died down, the ever annoyed-looking Hufflepuff next to Shannon, a complete contrast to her, took a short step and spoke. "Well, greetings to you all. My name is Ophelia Chapman. I'm a Brit, if you couldn't tell, and a Hufflepuff as well. I was going to use this minute to explain a few things about myself, but...I'm suddenly at a loss for words after hearing that speech, ironically. Either way, I'm glad to be here and...yeah." Then she stopped back to her spot.
**I wonder what she was going to say...-Ruben**
**For some reason, I sense that there's much more to this girl than meets the eye...but I'm not one to simply make assumptions, less I make an arse out of myself-Skyler**
**I have a bad feeling about this girl...like, I dunno. Just really bad. Ominous, even...-Grayson**
Next up was the chipper Latina, as she waved to everyone, her piñata bracelet jingling on her wrist. "Hola, everyone! First off, I want to say welcome to the team, and I'm so glad we're all here together. My name is Nina Warren, and I'm Argentinian. Well, technically I'm American, North American, but my entire family is from Latin America. Oh, I'm a Ravenclaw, and I'm absolutely just glad to be here! You all seem so nice, sì, and I overall just wish everyone a good time. Um, I'm not sure what else to say, because if I start talking, I'm sure I won't stop, and I don't want to waste everyone's time with a story or anything, or at least not right now, at least. Oh, wait, I'm rambling, I'm so sorry, I'll end my intro now, gracias!" Nina finally stepped back, still smiling as she got a light round of applause.
**Yikes, no offense, but that girl talks a lot...-Ruben**
**Wow, Nina seems so nice! I have a feeling me and her will get along like syrup and pancakes!-Ruby**
**That girl is seriously a Claw? I mean, no offense to her at all, but it makes me wonder exactly how...bumbling, for lack of a better word, she is.-Shannon**
Ruben followed Nina, him stepping up cockily as he spoke, tossing his red hair out of his eyes. "Well, pleasure to meet all of you. The name's Ruben Barnes. I'm a Brit, I am. I'm also a Gryffindor, too. Oh, and I play football back home. Er...soccer, I guess is the general term. I guess I'll be good in physical challenges and such and um, I hope we all have a jolly good time. That's all, I suppose." He then stepped back to his spot, receiving some applause.
**I'd be lying if I said he wasn't cute, aye papi...long hair that's rõjo, big muscles... So caliente...muy lindo...okay, I seriously have to stop commenting that every guy I see is cute in their own way.. -Nina**
**It's nice to have another guy around. I don't mind all the girls, exactly, but there's some things you just don't discuss with them. If you catch my drift-Grayson**
**Finally, someone to help with physical challenges. Honestly, we won't get anywhere in those if we lose Ruben. So, I'll have to make sure we don't vote him out too soon...-Sky**
The yellow-eyed boy stepped forward, hands in his pockets, and after looking down for a second, glanced back up and tried to give a nice smile. "Hello, guys and gals. I'm Grayson Harper. And before you mention the eyes, I was born with them. Honestly, I think it's kinda cool, if you can believe that. Anyway, I'm also a Slytherin and I agree with Shannon on the communication part. Lara was...not the best at that. But, anyway, I don't want to piggyback off of her, so I won't push that topic any further. Anyways... I guess that about it. I hope we can do well." He then stepped back, trying to be casual as possible.
**Nice, another guy. Maybe we can work out together or something.-Ruben**
**Is Grayson really that socially awkward? I've never really noticed, he always seems fine around me...and we do talk a lot, now that I think about it... Meh, maybe its just around large groups...that's all it is, right?-Shannon**
**Okay, Grayson honestly seems like a nice guy. I'm not going to say he's cute, I promise, he just seems like someone I could talk to...late at night... Alone...under the stars...oh, fu-Nina**
Finally, it was Skyler's turn. She seemed pleased with herself as she stepped forward, hands folded in front of her. "Well, I'm glad I got to hear all of you speak and must say you did rather well. I, myself, actually am...pretty bad at large groups, but no matter. My name is Sky Wilkonson, resident Ravenclaw along with Nina. I'm British, as you may be able to tell. And, well, I just want to say I'm glad we could all have this... activity, I guess would be the best word. And even if this is a game, as I must sadly remind you, I hope we can all do our best not mess with each other too badly and ultimately realize that this is, indeed, a game, and that after this has concluded, no feelings will be hurt." She then gave a genuine smile and stepped back as she got possibly the loudest applause yet.
**Skyler is so precious. She seems like a know-it-all, but I bet she just acts like that to impress people. Well, she doesn't need to impress me!-Ruby**
**I'm trying to figure out if I sense a kindred spirit in Skyler or not. Sure, she has that goody-two-shoes act down pat, but I wonder if there's something more there...and if I risk exposing it.-Ophelia**
*Y'know, I never thought I would get along with a girl like Sky. But, after that speech she gave...maybe this group isn't so bad. Maybe we can actually all get along and not fight...that's what I hope for more than anything right now...-Shannon**
Now that the whole group had gone, they were mostly unsure what to do now, so Skyler, once again, offered a solution. "Well, I believe that we have all said what we have wanted to say, so I think it would be best if we all rest and not stress too much. Maybe we can think up more activities for the team to do, but for now, if no one has any objections, we should probably dissolve for now. Is that okay?" Everyone nodded, most smiling, and Sky did as well, clapping twice quickly and slightly yelling "Very well. Dismissed!" And so the circle disappeared as everything went off to do whatever they wanted.
At first, Mikey was nervous about being on Exile. He loved being around other people, that's where he thrived. However, once he stepped into that shack, the sheer luxury of it overwhelmed him. After taking an hour-long bath in the hot tub, Michael walked out into the living area, wearing a towel. He was really enjoying this and almost forgot about the game...until he saw something on a side table by the love seat. He picked it up, twirling it in his hands.
It was a wooden idol, shaped like a house-elf. He was certain it wasn't here before and for a moment he held his towel closer to himself, but then he figured there was no way there were cameras in there. Of course, the fact that someone had come in and left that idol there was unnerving, but there's no way they would come back again...right? Regardless, he saw a scroll-like note under the idol and picked it up as he sat down, reading it carefully: "Congratulations, this is a hidden immunity idol! However, upon finding this idol, you must anonymously give this idol to someone else. With this idol, they will be able to keep themself safe during one Tribal Council. This idol is valid until Day 11."
Mikey read over the note once or twice and gulped. He would have to give this away, after he just got it? Well, that wasn't too bad, actually. He was here to have fun, not to win. Besides, he already had an idea of who he would give it to, he thought as he looked at his sun bracelet, still on his wrist. But, whatever, he would settle all of this later. For now, Mike figured he would take a nap. It would be a while before his clothes were dry anyway...
As the afternoon went on, the Phoenix Tribe was fairly quiet. Spencer, Laurence, Luke, and Cole were alone in their tents, mostly relaxing. George was around the fire ring, trying to get a spark going. Jordan, however, was currently heading to Mia's tent. She peeked inside, seeing Mia without her pink headband for once as she seemed to be rummaging through her bag.
"Yoohoo, Mia!" called Jordan playfully. Mia nearly jumped, her hair flying everywhere as she turned around to see the girl in tye-dye. She bit her lip as she flashed a smile.
"Hello, Jordan. What brings you by? You want to talk outside, it might get crowded in here." Clearly, she wasn't taking no for an answer as she went past Jordan to outside. Jordan glanced back suspiciously at the tent, then stepped out after the Brit. They both walked out near the edge of the campsite to talk privately. George, who was currently frustrated at the lack of a fire, paid them no attention.
Mia flashed a smile to the Muggle-born girl. "So, what do you want to talk about?" She played with her loose hair casually. She usually only looked like this when alone or relaxing, but she didn't mind it much at the moment. Jordan paid it no attention, her mind on a mission.
"Oh, just wondering how you've been. How was Exile? Find anything interesting?" She smiled, leaning against a tree. She actually didn't care, figuring it was a dump, but it would at least put Mia on edge, making her slip up.
The Brit didn't show her shock at that question. There was no way Jordan knew how well off Exile was, nor could she know she had an idol. So, she simply shrugged. "It was a bother. Deserted island, middle of nowhere, beach covered in rubbish, and no sign of wildlife besides the insects." Mia thought she sounded pretty convincing, and Jordan nodded apologetically.
"Yikes, that sounds...really bad. Good thing I didn't go...sorry about that...but, anyway, what do you think of our teammates?" She asked, gently changing the topic to what she was really concerned about. Mia flipped her hair and thought for a moment.
"Well, none of them seem...too bad. Cole is kind of quiet. So is Laurence, but his attitude is acceptable. Spencer seems smart, though he's a tad awkward. George is fairly bright, and not too terrible looking either. And then there's Luke, our fellow Gryff, who's rather chipper, it seems, and not bad when it comes to being physical..." She trailed off a bit. She wasn't sure why this girl was so curious what she thought of the team. There's no possible way she was pursuing an alliance, right?
Jordan tried not to scream when she heard the comment about Luke, but instead smirked and whispered a little. "Okay, girl talk, not game-related: Out of the guys, who's the hottest?" She winked and bounced her eyebrows a couple times. She had to seem casual to find out if Mia was truly out for her boy toy.
Mia, meanwhile, couldn't hide the shock in her face this time. She was NOT expecting that question. Truthfully, she didn't care much for romantic relationships or how cute boys were, but she supposed that maybe she was a tad...aromantic, to put it lightly. But, if this was the so-called "girl talk" she had heard others talk about, she figured it wouldn't hurt to engage in it, if only to her fellow female teammate happy. So, after the shock passed, she blushed a bit, and rather convincingly she thought. "Well, if had to choose...actually, I'd probably have to...see them...if you know what I'm referring to..."
Jordan blinked. "Wow, I didn't know you were that dirty."
Mia blinked now. "What? Oh, no!" She laughed. "No, dear, I meant just no shirts on, not completely naked down to the arse for all women to see." She laughed again; she had to admit this was kind of fun, not thinking about the game for a minute. After a moment, Jordan began giggling too and soon they both were laughing together, not being able to contain themselves.
George looked up, curiously, but then just rolled his eyes and focused on the fire again, not even bothering to wonder what the two ladies were talking about.
After a good thirty seconds, the two had calmed down and were able to breathe again. "So, Jordan, you asked me, but I don't know who you find fetching." She smirked and waited for an answer. It wouldn't hurt to know who Jordan fancied; it could even help her game.
Jordan didn't hesitate. "Oh, no one in particular. They all have their good points. Although I guess Luke is kinda cute..." She couldn't help but blush a little. She couldn't believe she had just told that to her rival, but if she didn't care for Luke, then why hide it? Mia just nodded thoughtfully.
"Well, I can see that. He does play football (pronouncing it 'FUT-bol), after all." After nodding again, she played with her hair, somewhat uncomfortably. "So, is that all? Just...girl talk, I guess this is called?" Jordan nodded happily.
"Yep, that's all it is! It's nice having another girl on the team, so I can talk like this." She then hugged Mia, surprising both of them. Mia was in shock, her body stiff until she slowly put her arms around Jordan as well, clutching her back.
"O-oh...okay...yeah, I must admit this was...nice...maybe we could even do it again?" What was she saying? This was a competition, not a knitting circle. However, she just couldn't refuse the girl while they were hugging like this.
Jordan let go eventually with a "Sure!" followed by her walking back to camp to her hammock (she had voluntarily chosen it over a tent) with a "Seeya later!" leaving the Brit alone with a strangely warm feeling inside...
**Okay, let me be perfectly clear: I am in this game to win, no matter what...its just that no one's ever taken the time to bond with me like that...ever...maybe I can keep her around for a while... If nothing else, she'd be an easy patsy for an alliance...that's all it is, I swear! blushes-Mia**
**I'm so glad I could clear the air with Mia! Honestly, now that I know she isn't after my Luke, she kinda seems like a nice girl. Sure, she's privileged, but honestly, I have limited options for gal pals right now. Besides, it's better for her to be with me rather than against me, right?-Jordan**
As the sun began to set on the Centaur Campsite, it was in full swing. Shannon was making sure the fire was burning brightly while Ruby and Nina, somewhat loudly, told stories to each other across from her. Sky and Ophelia were outside as well, each of them laying in their hammocks on opposite sides of the campsite, swinging as they were deep in thought. Grayson, however, was in his tent, not really sure how to approach anyone, until Ruben peeked through, bending down to look him in his yellow eyes. "Hey, chap, I can tell you're pretty lonesome on your own over here. You wouldn't mind helping me while I work out, would ya, mate? Y'know, since you're the only guy around and all?"
Grayson tilted his head, but then shrugged. "Sure, dude. I've got nothing better to do." Truthfully, the Slytherin didn't care one way or another, but he had to admit it was nice to have a one on one with the other boy in the tribe. Ruben just nodded as he motioned for Grayson to follow him, which he did. They stopped near the edge of the campsite, where they could see the girls, but couldn't be seen by them as the day began to end. Next to Ruben was a sturdy tree branch about six feet from the ground. As Ruben took off his shirt, Grayson felt just a bit uncomfortable. He wasn't exactly used to being around people, especially a boy his age without his shirt on, but then he figured that was a normal thing when working out.
Ruben noticed Grayson avoiding eye contact. "You all right, chap? I'm sure I look intimidating, but don't feel alarmed at all. I just work out a lot. Speaking of which" Ruben jumped up and grabbed the tree branch, it not budging, as he looked down on the slighter shorter boy "Can you spot me?" Grayson was clearly confused. The Gryff just laughed. "I mean, can you count how many pull-ups I do?"
The Sly tried not to blush at his lack of experience and just nodded. "Sure." Then Ruben quickly began to pull up, his arm muscles rippling as his head appeared above the branch, then below, then up, then down, and in that pattern. Grayson counted in his head, but only half looked. For se reason, this felt awkward, so he decided to start a conversation, any conversation. "So...you play soccer, huh?"
"Yep. Sure do. Have for years now. I'm thinking of making a career out of it, since my Mum and Dad aren't that strict in me staying in the Wizarding professions." Ruben didn't even slow down as he spoke. Clearly, he did this often. Grayson tapped his foot before bringing up another topic.
"So...what do you think of our teammates?" He asked, unsure of what else to talk about. Ruben did about 5 more pull-ups before responding.
"Ah, the girls. Well, they all seem pretty smart, I'll give em that. Ophelia and Sky are a tad quiet, but Nina and Ruby more than make up for it. And Shannon is just the middle ground, far as I can tell." He then took a deep breath, starting to get tired. He did a few more pull-ups before dropping down, sweating. "How many was that, mate?" It had felt like forever, but only been about a minute.
"43" Grayson simply replied. He wasn't sure, but that seemed like a lot. His thought was reassured by a smirk on the Brit's face.
"Lovely! That's a personal best for me." He then looked at Grayson for a few moments before adding. Do you wanna try? I say you can never work out enough." The confident smile on his face clearly said he believed that.
The American crossed his arms self-consciously. "I dunno...I've never exactly been one to work out that much...especially not in front of other people..." The yellow-eyed teen seemed to grip his red jacket tighter. Ruben simply put a comforting arm on his teammate.
"I understand, everyone's self-conscious at some point or another about something. But it couldn't hurt to try, right? If you fall or something, I'm right here, mate. Besides, the medics are still around, I'm sure. They can heal broken bones, Y'know." He flashed another confident smile as Grayson looked him in his gray eyes.
After a few moments he slowly nodded. "Okay...I guess it couldn't hurt..." Then unzipped his red jacket, leaving only his green tee on, which hugged his somewhat developed upper body. Ruben raised an eyebrow, amused.
"What were you worried about, mate? You're damn near well off as me, you are!" The Gryffindor clapped Grayson's back, causing him to stumble slightly. He ignored that, though, and jumped up onto the tree branch, letting his arms hang. He wasn't sure exactly when to start or even how, so Ruben helped him get started. "If you want, we can talk. That'll take your mind off of working and just let your body do the work." Grayson nodded as he held onto the tree branch and began pulling himself up, his arm muscles not used to being stretched like this. Mostly, his build came from him being alone in his room and passing the time. He didn't like reading or partying, so exercising was his best alternative. He never really noticed how he looked and didn't rightly care, since most people just saw his eyes and ignored the rest of him. But, he didn't bother an essential stranger like Ruben with all of this. In fact, Ruben already had a topic in mind. "So, guy talk, which one of the girls do you find smashing?"
Grayson almost dropped right then at the boldness of that question. "Wh-what?" It wasn't that he hadn't heard the question; he just hadn't been expecting it. Yet, again, he figured this is what guys talked about. "Um...w-well...I g-guess...Shannon." He blushed saying that out loud. However, Ruben just laughed.
"Ah, of course, you Slytherins stick together. Personally, for me, that Nina is quite lovely. I even saw her eyeing me, I did. Think I've got a shot?" Grayson was quiet for a moment, able to do another pull-up, his arms burning.
"Um...sure, why not? You're a nice guy, you're obviously handsome, what's not to like?" At this point, Grayson was tired as he dropped down. He panted heavily, having not worked out like that ever.
"That was 12 in a minute, mate. Not bad for a first time, but I'm sure you can do better. Bet those muscles will impress Shannon, they will!" He nearly yelled, so loud Grayson was scared that she had heard. However, when he looked back at the campsite, it was still and quiet. At some point, it had become nighttime and the rest of the Centaurs had fallen asleep.
"It's late, we should get back. No idea what'll be thrown at us tomorrow." The Sly said ad he shrugged his jacket back on, zipping it up and placing his hands in the pockets."
"Aye, you're right there. Guess we got abit carried away." Grayson glanced back at Ruben as he put his jersey back on, considering it was his insistence that led to them being out there in the first place. "But, anyway, cheerio, and have a lovely night, will ya?" He didn't wait for an answer as he went back to his tent. After standing there in thought for a moment, Grayson went to his own.
**Well, today was exhausting. My arms hurt, I'm tired, and now I can't stop thinking about what I said about Shannon. I mean, I was pressured into answering! And now it's going to look like I like her... Or, heck, love her! Don't get me wrong, she's a nice girl, really, but I didn't come here to fall in love, I came because I was bored... Whatever, I'm...done with this conversation...crosses arms-Grayson**
**Well, I had fun with Grayson. Hope we can do it again some time!-Ruben**
Day 3 End/Night 3 Beginning
It was fairly quiet that night, aside from the bugs. Or so it seemed. 12 wizards and witches were all asleep, dreaming their usual dreams. Ruben was surrounded by girls. Nina was surrounded by guys. Jordan was with Luke. Grayson was with no one. Mikey was in his boxers. Cole was in his hoodie. Sky was in her uniform. Mia was in her headband. Ophelia laid in her hammock. George lay in his tent. Shannon was climbing a tree. Laurence was swimming with strong lungs. Luke was playing football. Spencer was reading manga. And Ruby just was. Yet three of these seemingly peaceful contestants were out and about, and for different reasons...
Skyler Wilkonson was careful not to get her uniform dirty while searching the dense rainforest. Among other things, it was one of only three outfits she had brought, and the other two were...not exactly needed yet. Besides, a change of clothes so early would be both suspicious and it would irk her if a single outfit couldn't last less than a week. But, her uniform was minimal concern compared to finding an idol. That's why she had chosen a hammock, after all. She doubted anyone else on her team would be searching, so if she were outside, it was safer than possibly alerting her neighbors were she in a tent. And don't get her wrong, she wasn't scared of being eliminated anytime soon. It's only that an insurance policy is best in as unpredictable an environment as this. And someone else apparently had a similar idea.
Cole Reynolds was glad his hoodie was dark-colored, so even if someone had heard him in camp, they likely wouldn't have seen him. And he didn't need that. Now that he had no fellow Slytherins, the Brit was all on his own, as he thought of it. This new team would easily get rid of him first chance they got, possibly just because he was a Sly. Sure, he was quiet and brooding and could be seen as intimidating, but he just didn't like other people. He hated all people equally, as he saw it, but if he had even tried to explain that, he knew it would be taken the wrong way. So, as long as he kept to himself and made sure he didn't royally screw himself over, he would be fine. However, if he did manage to do that somehow, he would need that idol, and he would rather have it sooner over later. And yet, a certain someone had the exact opposite problem.
Mia Houghton was again in her pink headband. As much she had enjoyed her chat with Jordan, the timing of it had been...less than ideal. In fact, if Jordan had stayed in the tent any longer, she surely would have seen the idol she was trying to hide. Clearly, her bag wasn't going to do the trick, so she needed somewhere else to hide it. Someone an idol searcher, or even just one of the dumb blokes on her tram would look. Nowhere close to the ground, as the wide one and weak one would find it easily. Not anywhere that athletic either, since the white-haired girl, her crush, and even the bright Ravenclaw and the Slytherin to some extent would look there. No...she needed to hide it somewhere...particular... That's when she heard a rushing stream...
With the three of them out and searching for something, odds dictated one would find what they were looking for. And, the final of the mismatched trio had. However, the first two, like the ones who had looked before them, searched to no avail. Eventually, they were all tired for different reasons and went back to camp. And, lucky them, no one caught them. For now.
**Well, that was a waste of time. Granted, I know several places the idols aren't hidden, but that does me a load of rubbish right now. Plus, I think I almost woke Chapman when I got back to camp. I need to watch out for her. She may be more cunning than I thought-Sky**
**If I have to spend half the bloody night searching through a bug-infested jungle in a hoodie with the humid and warm air making me second guess my judgment, I expect to find something worthwhile. And yet, I didn't. Now all I know is that there's no way this hood will last a month.-Cole**
**Perfect. Positively perfect. I stuck my idol in the stream in between a very small space between a rock. The whitewash obscures it from view and if you do touch it, it feels like one of the rocks. Luckily, the wood won't rot before the expiration, since I'm almost certain it has charms on it to prevent such, so I'm set. And, if I do need to get it, I'll just claim to grab some water for the camp and no one will be the wiser. Oh, and I'll keep the note in my headband. No one would look between the thin, pink fabric and I can't risk getting it wet, in case I need it...-Mia**
Night 3 End/Day 4 Beginning
In the morning hours in the Amazon, the newly formed Tribes were both waking up...in their own ways.
Ophelia woke to the smell of...oatmeal. Slightly confused, she sat up in her hammock...only to fall out in shock at a smiling Nina in her face, holding a (crude) bowl of instant oatmeal with a misshapen spoon in it. As she got on her knees, annoyed, Nina immediately helped her up with one hand, a concerned look on her face. "Oh, lo siento, Ophelia. I just wanted to bring you some breakfast." She then held up the bowl to Ophelia, who hesitantly grabbed it, giving a small smile.
"Thank you, Nina. It's quite all right; accidents happen."
**Nina is too nosy for her own good. If she gets into my business, I'll need to find a way to remedy that. Fast.-Ophelia**
Ophelia, now sufficiently awake, decided to look around. Ruby was stirring what looked to be a pot of oatmeal with a wooden spoon. Shannon was sitting opposite Ruby, enjoying her own bowl. Sky was still in her hammock, apparently still asleep. Ophelia could hear a groaning from Grayson's tent, as if he were just waking up. Ruben was nowhere to be seen. Not wanting to just stand around, Ophelia sat next on Ruby's side across from Shannon. Ruby immediately looked away from her stirring, her usual smile on her face. "Salut, Ophelia. Did you sleep well?"
Ophelia just nodded, holding her oatmeal. "I suppose. I need to get used to waking up in a bloody rainforest, though." She had a small pout on her face, but then changed the subject. "By the way, where's the Gryffindor?"
Ruby gestured with her free hand, charms jingling in the process, to the woods. "He was kind enough to get some water. I needed some anyway for the oatmeal and offered to grab some more. There's a river not too far from here, Y'know?"
Ophelia blinked. "You mean...the Amazon River?" Exactly how close were they? She was sure in her searching she hadn't come across it.
Ruby shrugged, seeming unsure. "I dunno. I guess."
**Growing up in a wizarding family in Canada, I don't exactly know that much when it comes to 'common knowledge. I never went to 'normal' school. In fact, my parents had considered sending me to Beauxbatons before they settled on Hogwarts, so my geography of Britain is actually quite terrible...but that's okay!-Ruby**
Ophelia raised an eyebrow, but Ruby went back to stirring and didn't notice. She looked again at her oatmeal; call her particular, but she would have preferred little raisins in it. She just stirred her own bowl lazily for a few moments, eventually tasting it. It could have been better...and it could have been worse, she supposed.
George was the first one up that morning in the Phoenix Tribe and had already made a small breakfast for his mates. It wasn't much, just an array of fruit on a plate, but it was enough, he thought. He didn't try to wake anyone up and let them go at their own pace. No point in annoying anyone by being their alarm clock. It wasn't long before people woke up on their own, however. Jordan was up first, twirling out of her hammock expertly. "Heya, Georgie! Ooh, fruit, nice!" She grabbed the plate and then stopped for a moment. "Can I have another one? I wanna bring it to Luke." She gave a charming smile as George just nodded, the white-haired girl grabbing another plate and walking to Luke's still tent.
**Okay, something has to be going on with those two. I'm not quite sure how it is in America, but usually when a girl is overly nice to a certain guy again and again, she fancies him. I honestly don't mind it, but they had better be careful. Couples are notorious for...getting messy, gamewise.-George**
Soon after, Laurence and Spence woke up, almost at the exact same time. They almost bumped into each other, even, when walking to the unlit fire ring. Luckily, however, Laurence was quick enough on his feet to not run into Spence. Once the larger boy noticed, though, he quickly look concerned. "Oh...s-sorry, Laurence. I didn't see you..." He then looked ashamed, staring at the ground. Laurence put a small hand on the American's wrist.
"It's alright, Spencer. Don't apologize. I almost ran into you, not the other way around." He then had a small smile on his face. "You want to eat breakfast together?"
Spence looked at the smaller boy, pushing up his glasses. "R-really? Um...sure, okay!" He seemed much happier now as the two boys walked to George, him already holding two plates out to them. They both sat on a log acting as a bench, next to each other, as Laurence gave Spence a thoughtful look.
**Spencer is a nice enough lad, really. He's just awkward, and trust me when I say I know what that's like. I've been in and out of the hospital since I was born and was never a social butterfly because of it. But I don't want pity in this game; if I'm going to play, I want it to be of my own merits, not because others feel sorry for me...-Laurence**
Luke was now awake due to Jordan's invading of his personal space and now Cole lazily was crawling out of his sleeping place. Only Mia wasn't around, which George found somewhat unusual, but whatever. He was sure she could take care of herself. She was independent enough, he surmised, as he took a bite of a grape. Could be better, he thought, but could be worse.
After a meager breakfast by all (except Mikey, who indulged fully in what he was offered), the two teams of seven met once again at the familiar clearing, and, expectedly, the setup was much different.
Gone were the comical wizard hats which had now been replaced with a full-blown obstacle course. Directly in front of the two teams was an identical set of balance beams, twisting Ike snakes at various intervals. After that came a cargo net climb about 20 feet high. Beyond that seemed to be a pair of ropes leading down the other side, it being separated by a wooden partition from the net in front of it. At the bottom of the ropes was a short distance to a finish line.
The two groups of 7 barely had time to register the course when the ever cheerful host emerged. "Hello, lads and lasses! How are you today?" Most of them responded with groans or silence, with notable exceptions being Nina, Jordan, and Ruby.
**Last I checked, Scots spoke such phrases as "lads and lasses", not the Irish. Is this girl just screwing with us?-Ophelia**
Natasha, as always, seemed to ignore the contestants. "Alright, glad to see you all so excited! And you should be, as it's your first challenge in your newly formed Tribes!" At this point, the banners from before, the blazing Phoenix on the left and the galloping Centaur on the right, appeared from thin air and made much fanfare, spooking a few of the students.
**inhales several times I-is that l-legal? They d-do know that could put in the h-hospital, right?-Laurence**
The redhead simply laughed. "Whoops, didn't mean to scare you kids." Even as she said it, she was clearly enjoying their reactions. "But, anyway, here is your next immunity challenge!" She held her hands out dramatically at the course before them and explained. "In this course, there are three stations. The first is the balance beam, where players must cross the winding path without falling to the other side. After everyone had crossed, you may begin the second station, the cargo net crawl. Once everyone has reached the top, the final station can be started, the rope descent. You just climb down the other side using the wooden barrier to hold your feet. Think of it like repelling. Anyway, when everyone has reached the bottom, you just run to the finish line and first team there wins immunity! Simple, right?"
Sky was immediately suspicious of her explanation, raising her hand. "Um, my glasses may be deceiving me, but are those...wands?" She gestured to several spots in each station. Tasha gave a bright smile, playfully smacking her head in mock forgetfulness.
"Oh, silly me, I forgot: You must designate one member of your tribe to pick up 6 wooden wands, 2 in each station. And before you ask, they aren't actual wands, just shaped like them, because it goes with our theme here." She smiled and continued. "Anyway, that member must go first on every obstacle and you must have all of your wands when you cross the finish line, otherwise, you are disqualified and the other tribe immediately wins. Now, any questions?" She placed a hand on her hip, proudly.
Jordan raised her hand. "Ar-" She was immediately cut off.
"No, Jordan, you are not allowed to use magic. Again, I'll tell you if you are at any time." Jordan slowly lowered her hand. "Now, any real questions?" Jordan had a small pout on her lips.
**I really don't like her embarrassing me in front of Luke like that...-Jordan**
Spencer raised his hand nervously. "Um, what if we fall off an obstacle? W-what if we get injured?" The Irishwoman gave him a reassuring smile.
"If you fall, you go back to the start of that station. And I've been assured that injury is impossible on this course. Apparently, someone complained of the ropes being unsafe last time and some sort of charm thingy was put on all the equipment or whatever they said. I honestly didn't understand half of what those people say." She said, rolling her eyes. Mia bit her lip slightly miffed.
**I wouldn't call it complaining. I just went to a producer that was operating a camera while at Gryffindor camp, said I had rope burn, got a medic to fix me up like that snaps fingers and that was that. But, I guess if someone has an injury, they want it to be exciting, not rope burn...bloody Muggles.-Mia**
No one could think of any more questions, so Tasha put her other arm on her left hip. "Okay, then! So, I'll give you a minute to decide who will be your gatherer, and then you'll be off! Your minute starts...now!" She yelled suddenly as the tribes got into loose groups.
After each team conferred for a minute, they each looked back to Tasha as she yelled "Time's up! Now, Phoenix Tribe, who did you choose?" Mia answered before anyone else could.
"Jordan will be our wand gatherer." She said simply. Tasha nodded and looked to the Centaurs, posing the same question. This time, Nina answered.
"That would be me, señorita Natasha." She said matter of factly with a wink. Tasha ignored the flattery and nodded again.
"Good! You two, place one foot onto the balance beams in front of you! The rest of your tribe can organize themselves accordingly." They all did as she said and soon she counted down "Three, two, one, begin!" And the tribes were off in their first challenges together.
Both girls shot off like bullets, Jordan slightly edging ahead of Nina. She came to the first bend and walked through it with ease, Nina not far behind. She came to the next curve and the first wand, stepping over, grabbing it with her left hand and continuing, never breaking stride. Nina, however, stopped, bent over, picked it up, placed it in her back pocket, and then continued her cautious pace.
**What in the world is she doing? I never thought a fellow Raven could be so...careless.-Sky**
The same pattern happened again, and after that, they both jumped off the balance beam, Jordan a few seconds earlier than Nina, as their respective tribe members began to walk across. For Phoenix, it was Mia, and for Centaurs was Shannon. Even though Mia was a few steps ahead, Shannon's long frame let her catch up quickly and soon she was off the beam at the same time as her competition.
The next pair was Grayson and Cole. The former teammates were neck and neck the entire way, neither pulling ahead of the other and once they stepped off the beam, the race was still even. Ruby stepped calmly into the beam as George began going across. The Ravenclaw was seamless, and was soon over. Ruby, however, despite her elegance, misjudged a curve and missed the beam, falling to the ground. She quickly got back up, dusting herself off, and ran back to the start, frazzled
**Ouch...I think I messed up...-Ruby**
Once Ruby had gotten across, Luke was already across with Laurence now stepping onto the obstacle. Luckily, Ruben was next, making up for lost time. He had gotten across after Laurence had to stop to take a breath before stepping off the obstacle.
**I couldn't help it...it's a longer walk than I thought-Laurence**
So, now was just Spence for the Phoenix Tribe and Sky and Ophelia for the Centaurs. Ophelia hobbled over as best she could, her squat stature being a burden. She didn't want to take long, but preferred that over falling and starting again. Still, by the time she was across, Spencer had fallen once and was only halfway there.
**Balancing is not my thing. At all. I never imagined I would have to do something like this one day.-Spence**
Skyler was the last of the Centaurs and quickly but calmly walked across. As the Centaurs ran to the cargo net first, Spencer finally got off the beam, ending the first station for both teams.
Once again, Nina and Jordan started. They both quickly climbed up, the wands being at the top of the net and within seconds their teammates were climbing up. Mia and Shannon, Cole and Grayson, George and Ruby, Luke and Ruben all getting up with no problem. However, then came the real challenges. Ophelia for the Centaurs and Laurence for the Phoenixes were up next, climbing as best they could. Neither of the Huffs were doing very well, but at least their struggle was even. However, Laurence still managed to get ahead of Ophelia, giving Spencer a few seconds to catch up. Ophelia eventually made it up, more out of breath than the asthmatic.
**Geez, exactly how unathletic is she?-Shannon**
While Spence was halfway up, Sky was making up for lost time. Admittedly, she wasn't in the best shape either and her outfit was...not suited for this kind of activity, but at least no one was able to look at her from below, given her skirt. As she climbed higher, she tried not to panic and soon was to the top, a few feet above her fellow Claw. With that, the Centaurs were to the third station. After about five seconds, Spencer made it up and the rest of the tribe quickly began the third half of the course as well.
Nina already had her first wand when Mia passed her in a rush. Nina, determined not to lose, went to grab the second wand, floating there next to the rope (magic obviously)...and missed. She lost her balance, grabbing the rope, but fell to the ground. Luckily, she was only a few feet from it, but she still landed with a thud, luckily her feet absorbing the shock. However, she had to climb back up, grab the wand, and then crawl back down. By that time, though, Jordan and Mia were down, Cole not far behind.
**Oh, this is no bueno, not at all...-Nina**
Shannon climbed down after, but Cole was already to the bottom with George following. She was quick though, Grayson down in no time after and Ruby fairly speedy as well. As Luke began climbing, Ruben raced down the rope passing him and giving them a few second buffer as Ophelia went. Small as she was, she went down rather quick, beating Laurence and then it was just Skyler...
The Ravenclaw calmed herself. It's just 20 feet...no need to worry. Although, what concerned her even more was her skirt, seeing all the boys waiting for her and Spence, now that Laurence was down. Spencer couldn't help but look at the girl in pity and he gulped as he began climbing down his rope. Now he couldn't look up or down, for fear of either invading someone's privacy or freaking himself out. So...he did the morally right thing; he spoke up, yelling to those below. "Would you guys mind giving a girl some space already? How would you like it if someone was staring up your legs to your nether regions?"
There was silence and shock for a few moments from all; he couldn't believe he had just said that, and neither could anyone else. Yet, one by one the guys, and even the girls, looked at the finish line instead, letting Skyler be unseen. Sky, letting her shock wear off, gave Spencer a small smile of gratitude and began climbing, more confident than ever...except that now Spence was at the bottom, his team running to the finish line. By the time Sky had touched the ground, it was too late.
"And with all six of their snakes across, along with all of their tribemates, the Phoenix Tribe wins their first challenge and immunity!" The host yelled enthusiastically. As the Centaurs came to the finish line, emotions were racing.
**I...can't believe Spencer did that...most people would just let their team win, I'm sure, but...at least he let me finish with decency...and where did he learn to be so forward like that. I won't lie in saying that surprised me.-Sky**
**Did I just do that? Why did I just do that? I've... Never said anything like that in my life...ever...I can't even speak in front of small groups and I just belted out. Yet...I couldn't help it. Sky was just...so helpless...and no one should have to worry about being exposed. I had a nightmare about being in Hogwarts naked once and let me tell you...it was...bad.-Spence**
**Clearly, me and Sky are in trouble. However, I sense a weakness in her that I can exploit. Hopefully, she'll see things my way. We are wholly similar after all.-Ophelia**
**I'm glad we won because, frankly I'm sure I'd be up for elimination, along with the asthma bloke and the huge one. And I know that they could at least talk their way out of it, seeming useful and whatnot. Meanwhile, the antisocialite gets booted. That's how it always is...turns away.-Cole**
Tasha smiled at the Centaurs. "That makes the Centaur Tribe the losing team, meaning they will have to choose to vote someone out of their team! We'll reconvene tomorrow evening for the Tribal Council, but until then, Tribes, you are dismissed!" She clapped her hands a couple times quickly, as she seemed to end most of her announcements, and the Tribes were on their way.
The Centaur Tribe was abuzz, yet quiet all at once when they arrived in the afternoon. One of them; Ruben, Shannon, Ruby, Grayson, Skyler, Ophelia, or Nina, would be the first one out of their new tribe by tomorrow. Despite being a team, they were now all each other's enemies. This is where being friends ended and being an independent winner began...of course, that didn't stop some people from trying to lighten the mood.
"Okay, guys, let's have lunch!" Cried the gleeful Hufflepuff as she ran off to get something quick. Meanwhile, the rest of the tribe just kinda stood there before going off in their separate directions, yet also breaking into small groups. Nina and Shannon sat on separate logs around the fire ring, thinking.
**Well, I again have to eliminate someone from a tribe I've been working so hard to lead. Of course, the choice isn't that hard. Everyone on this team has been open to communication except for one: Ophelia. Sure, it's not her fault that she's quiet, but she's also not exactly great for physical challenges either. So, yeah, I can only hope everyone else agrees.-Shannon**
**I have no idea who I'm voting for. I love everyone here, truly. But... I have to choose...mutters in Spanish-Nina**
Grayson began to move to his living area before he felt a strong hand on his shoulder. He turned to see Ruben giving him a usual cocky grin and jerk his head to the woods where they wouldn't be heard. The Slytherin didn't exactly know what to do, but nodded anyway and followed the Brit. Soon, they were far away from camp, close to where they had been hanging the day before. He rubbed his arm as he thought about it, but he quickly focused his attention on why the Gryff had asked him there.
"So...Ruben, what exactly are we doing? Not more working out, right? No offense, but I'm still worn out from our challenge." Which was true, but also mainly an excuse so he wouldn't have to push his body again. However, he was surprised when Ruben gave him a hearty laugh, leaning against a tree.
"Nah, mate, that's not why I called you here. I just came to talk strategy with ya, chap. Namely, on who to vote out. Personally, I feel like Cardinal is the one to go." Ruben seemed fairly nonchalant as he spoke. The slightly shorter boy shifted his feet as he listened.
"Simply put, she's weak. She's rather hopeless physically, and not terribly bright. Sure, she's nice and all, I'll give you that, but her social game could be pretty dangerous down the road, wouldn't you agree?" He posed the question to the Slytherin, who shrugged. The redhead sighed.
"Look, I know that she's a great girl and honestly one of the sweetest people I've ever met, but if we don't get rid of her now, she'll sail through this competition. So, are you with me, mate?" He looked the boy directly at the yellow eyed boy, who, after a few moments, simply nodded. After that, Ruben nodded, shifting his weight off of the tree as he walked back to camp. "I'm glad we agree, ol' chap!" He called back, leaving the Slytherin alone.
**Honestly, the fact that I have to vote someone off for the second time in a row is my main concern right now. And honestly, Ruben makes a good point. Considering how I don't exactly talk to many people, getting out someone who's mainly social game would be my best move at the moment. Plus, Ruby did mess up in the challenge, so her chance of being voted out is kinda high.-Grayson**
**I don't want to seem like some kind of monster. If I didn't think it was necessary, I would never think of getting such a nice girl out. But sooner or later, she's going to be a problem and I don't want to take that chance if I don't have to.-Ruben**
As Grayson walked back from his meeting spot in the woods, Sky was laying in her cot in deep thought. She was interrupted however by a clearing of someone's throat. She turned her head to come face to face Ophelia. The short girl smiled at Skyler as she asked "Um, would you mind coming with me for a few moments? There's...something I'd like to discuss."
The Ravenclaw was surprised. The older girl had never expressed any interest in talking to...well, anyone. But, she was a Hufflepuff, so that kindness must have been hidden somewhere inside that quiet exterior. Regardless, Skyler smiled in return, got out of her cot, and followed the other Brit. Once they were a good distance from the others, the taller one turned and smiled at the mousy girl.
"So, Sky, how are you doing? I guess you must feel a bit embarrassed over what happened earlier. I know I would..." The Hufflepuff put on a frown and clasped her hands behind her back, staring at the space between her feet. Skyler adjusted her glasses sheepishly and reassured Ophelia.
"Oh, no, I'm perfectly fine. Really. It's not like anyone looked or saw anything. Thanks to Spence..." She muttered that last part under her breath, so Ophelia didn't catch it. However, she looked back up at the Raven, taking on a concerned tone.
"That's good to hear...but...I don't want to suggest anything, really, but do you think people could...take advantage of your vulnerability?" There was a slight edge in the Huff's voice as Sky tilted her head, somewhat confused. She was unsure of what exactly the other girl was implying. Seeing this, the blond looped her hands in her overalls and continued, the concern melting away.
"Well, the way I see it, you were the reason we lost, sadly. You were rather slow throughout the challenge and how you froze up completely ruined any chances we had of winning. So, if I were our tribemates, I would certainly vote you out. Get rid of the liability. And all because of you wanting some decency." Her voice had now given way to a somewhat mocking tone, and it was almost like she was chastising the Claw. The said Claw was utterly shocked at what her teammate was saying... and yet she knew that it was a likely scenario. She didn't want to admit it, but she had been worried ever since their team had lost that she would become a target.
Chapman smiled, her plan working. "However, dear Skyler, I have a solution. I, too, am not exactly useful on this team, so if you go, I will likely be next. But, what if we were to...work together? Unbeknownst to the rest of our tribe, of course." Sky couldn't believe what she was hearing. This wasn't what she has been expecting at all. And as selfish as it was, she couldn't help but listen in keen interest as the Huff continued.
"What I'm proposing is, of course, a final two alliance. Essentially, we get together and work on our own all the way until the finale. We vote the same, we think the same, and do whatever we can to make sure neither of us gets kicked off. And, of course, voting each other is forbidden " Her playful tone turned serious for a moment. "But, the most important rule is that no one must find out about this. You do understand that, correct?" Sky's mind flashed to Spencer for a fraction of a second before nodding. No, she wouldn't get him involved in this. Or anyone else, for that matter. Nothing good could come out of it.
Ophelia beamed, running a hand through her short hair. "I'm glad you agree " She then held out the same hand to shake the Ravenclaw's. Said Raven hesitated for a moment, but then held out her hand as well, even smiling as they shook, therefore sealing one of the most mismatched pairings in the show's history.
A question formed on Sky's lips moments later. "So, um, who exactly are we voting for?"
Ophelia already had an answer ready. "Oh, definitely Nina. She's the most physical girl on the team and makes us look bad. Besides, she's very...nosy." A sneer began to form on her mouth. "If we let her go, she might find out about our little agreement before too long. So, we need to get rid of her before it's too late." The blond seemed very insistent, and her new partner didn't see any reason to contradict her already, so she just smiled and nodded, bringing their first meeting together to a close.
**Do I intend to abide by our final two agreement? What kind of question is that? scoffs Of course I do...for now. But the moment she becomes a liability in any way, I'm cutting her loose. I'm in this game for me and me only...-Ophelia**
**No, mistake isn't the word I would use. It's just...an opportunity, I suppose. I mean, what other options do I have right now? If this keeps me around for even one more day, I'm going to follow and abide by our agreement to the fullest extent I can. And if it crashes and burns? ...I royally screwed up.-Skyler**
As the sun began to set on the camps, so was it closing in on Mikey and his decision for who should get his idol. He lay on his bed in warm clothes. He had thrown them in the dryer again just because he could. However, he felt a bit cold despite that.
The Hufflepuff sat up. He had to make a decision today. He wasn't allowed to wait until tomorrow, because that was when the vote would occur and something about "developing a storyline ahead of time" or whatever was the only reason the producers had given him. So, the decision must be made tonight.
He looked at the idol he had put on the nightstand. Honestly, he wasn't sure why he was torn about giving it to her. Perhaps it was just because he was forbidden from telling her. Plus, she wouldn't be able to use it during the upcoming counsel. However, he wasn't worried about that. She would be fine, he was sure. But Mikey was a naturally talkative person, so not telling her that he had given her an idol felt like a huge betrayal. So, maybe he SHOULD give it to someone else. Although, that would just feel like a waste, wouldn't it?
Mikey got up from his bed and snatched the idol bitterly. It was rare for the Puff to be so angry, but he didn't like how he was limited in his options. The boy walked to the door of the enormous shack and looked straight up at what he was sure was a camera above the door. He gritted his teeth and said, simply. "You know who I wanna give this to. Just make sure it reaches her safely." He then opened the door, set the idol on the ground in front of him, and closed it, turning away. He didn't want anyone sneaking in on him while he was asleep.
Day 4 End/Night 4 Beginning
That night, it was fairly quiet in both camps. However, a buzzing seemed to emerge over the Centaur camp that night in what would be forever known as "The Day the Bugs Took Over".
Night 4 End/Day 5 Beginning
Shannon woke up in her tent, feeling a strange sensation on her arm. She peeked open one eye to see an ant crawling on her. She flicked it away and blinked...only to find it still there. And it wasn't one ant; it was two. She brushed them away and turned over. That's when she realized twice as many were on her other arm. She shook it off of her arm and brushed her hair out of her eyes...and then felt something creeping down her face.
The screaming which ensued woke the entire camp as they all quickly looked for the source. What followed was a frantic-looking Shannon as she ran out of her tent, shouting expletives at the top of her lungs as dozens of ants crawled all over her body and frantically tried to brush them off. They lost sight of her when she reached the dense forest past the camp and a collective mix of confusion and fright took place as they looked in the direction of the unoccupied tent. Apparently, she had left it slightly open the night before which had allowed several hundred ants to make a home in her tent. A collective shiver went through the camp as they all went about...little did they know the day was only getting started.
The next victim was Grayson. After everything had seemingly settled down, with Shannon back at the camp after ensuring no more ants remained on her body and her insistence on forgetting about the whole ordeal, they all decided to have breakfast. Today, it happened to be a ham and cheese sandwich. The yellow-eyed Sly bit into it, positively famished. After gulping it down, he went to take a second bite, but stopped, his mouth widening in shock.
The second scream of the day came at that moment as Grayson stood and threw his sandwich across the camp, to the shock of everyone. It landed by the edge of the camp near Nina, who looked a little closer, mostly unperturbed. A spider was crawling away from the sandwich, taking its time as if it hadn't even noticed it was just thrown at least 20 feet. Needless to say, Grayson went hungry.
Throughout the day, bug-related incidents affected everyone in the Centaur Tribe. Ophelia had several horseflies running into her head all day, to the point she ducked and yelped every time one came near. Skyler was bombarded with mosquitoes and spent most of her time slapping them, making disgusted noises any time she actually got one. Ruby instantly regretted when she had to remove a praying mantis from her tent, doing her best not to harm it. Ruben accidentally found a hornet's nest and had to be treated for stings (Cure For Boils did the trick). Nina didn't actually care, mostly vibing most of the day, although she had tripped and almost ended up with fly parts on her face.
Needless to say, being preoccupied with the bug situation, the Centaurs didn't get much of a chance to talk all day and soon it was nearing Tribal Council time.
**Those freaking bugs were out with a force today. So much so that I didn't get to talk to anyone. Doesn't matter, though; I already know who I'm voting out.-Shannon**
**If ONE more horsefly ever flies at me EVER again, I will NOT hesitate to use the Forbidden Curses to annihilate them!-Ophelia**
**I feel kinda bad for the bugs, Y'know? It's not their fault. Just like it's no ones fault on the team that we lost...-Ruby**
**It's clearly Ruby's fault that we lost.-Ruben**
Day 5 End/Night 5 Beginning
Tasha sat by the fire, making her seem to glow as the seven wizards and witches walked to the logs in front of her. Natasha nodded curtly once everyone had sat down. "Hello, Centaur Tribe. Welcome to your first Tribal Council as a group. Before we get to the voting, I'd like to ask a few questions. Shannon, you've been in this position before already, so I'll ask you: What went wrong?"
Shannon bit her lip, slightly annoyed at the fact that she had brought up her loss so quickly, but nonetheless answered. "Well, Tasha, I know I go on about communication, but I don't think that was actually the issue this time. Rather, it was simply a matter of physicality. No offense to my teammates, but not everyone is as athletic as others, and considering that's what the challenge was about, sometimes some people aren't able to do well in challenges such as that."
Tasha nodded. "I see. Do you have a counterpoint to that, Ophelia?"
Ophelia played with one of her overall straps as she responded. "While I agree that being athletic is always an advantage, there's more to the game than simply being fit. Wit, socializing, luck even. I don't believe that simply because one excels in one area means the rest should be ignored."
Tasha tilted her head. "Well, does that mean the challenges have no bearing on your opinions, Ruben?"
Ruben propped himself up with his arms and responded almost casually. "Well, of course they do, or they should. Challenges, especially this early in the game, help us to figure out what each other's strengths and weaknesses are, what's able to be improved, and what is deemed...unfit." He glanced in the direction of Ruby for only a second.
The host scrunched her brows. "On the topic of weaknesses, is there anyone that you see as holding back your team, Ruby?"
The Canadian flinched slightly and fiddled with her charms, the clinking accompanying her. "W-well, I don't believe it's always someone's fault if a challenge is lost. We all did our best, and that should count for something. Even if we aren't all the best at one challenge, that shouldn't mean we should get rid of them so quickly."
The redhead glanced to the Ravenclaw. "Did you base your decision on this challenge, Skyler?"
Sky adjusted her glasses and was sure to keep calm in answering. "I wouldn't want to give away my strategy in this game so quickly, but I can safely say that the person who I feel should be let go could have done better in this particular challenge."
Natasha lingered on her for a moment before refocusing her attention elsewhere. "Actually, on the subject of voting, do you know who you're voting, Nina?"
The Latina pinched an earring while speaking. "Well, I must admit, señorita Natasha, this was hard to do. Everyone tried so hard and it was difficult to make a decision. However, I feel safe with whoever I'm voting tonight."
The Irishwoman turned her gaze to the final Centaur and simply said "Well, Grayson, do you feel confident in whoever you're about to vote off?"
Harper's eyes seemed to glaze over for a moment as he thought before simply responding "Yeah, I do."
Tasha sighed as if bored, but stood up and announced to the Centaurs. "Well, I hope so, because now it's time for the vote. One by one, take your wands into the hut, write the name of whoever your choose to vote, then put the slip into the box." She opened her mouth to speak, but quickly had a flash of recognition. "Oh, I almost forgot to say this, since I didn't have to last time: Does anyone have a hidden immunity idol that they'd like to use?"
The Centaurs all glanced at each other, but no one said a word. Tasha sighed in relief. "Phew, if one of you had and I didn't ask, that woulda been my head." She cleared her throat. "Anyway, Grayson, you're up first."
Grayson stood and walked to the hut, quickly writing down a name, then leaving. After him followed Sky, then Ophelia, Ruben, Ruby, Nina, and finally Shannon.
After the vote, Natasha went to get the box and brought it in front of everyone. "I will now count up the votes. First is..." She put a hand in the box and read what it said aloud. "Ruby. That's one for Ruby. Next is..." She showed the slip and reached into the box again. "Shannon. One vote Ruby, one vote Shannon." She began repeating the process as she called out the votes. "Ruby. Two votes Ruby, one vote Shannon." Another vote. "Ophelia. That's two for Ruby, one for Shannon, one for Ophelia." Next vote. "Nina. Two votes Ruby, one for Ophelia, one Shannon, one Nina." The next vote. "Nina. That's two for Nina and Ruby, one for Ophelia and Shannon."
Grayson and Ruben glanced at each other, as did Skyler and Ophelia. Ruby fidgeted with her bracelets, Nina hugged herself with her arms, and Shannon rubbed an arm. Taking a deep breath, Natasha spoke. "With three votes, being the second contestant eliminated, Nina, you are out." Ruby gasped, Nina blinked, and Ophelia and Skyler nodded slightly to each other. However, with a smile, Nina stood and turned to the others as she walked to the exit.
"Adiós, new friends! Muchos gracias for the opportunity to meet you all!" She stood in front of Tasha, her smile never wavering. The host smirked and spoke her rehearsed words.
"Nina, the tribe has spoken. Please extinguish your wand." Nina spoke the simple incantation and the light went out. She turned back to the others once more, waving cheerfully. She was slightly confused by Ruby seeming to reach for her with her hand, but shrugged it off and walked away from the torches.
**Flashback**
Grayson votes Ruby, Skyler votes Nina, Ophelia votes Nina, Ruben votes Ruby, Ruby closes her eyes and writes Nina, Nina shrugs and votes Shannon, Shannon votes Ophelia.
**end Flashback**
**I'm not exactly sure why I was voted off, but I'm not going to take it personally. Even, though I wasn't here long, I'm glad that I made some new friends and I hope I did my family proud. As for who I want to win, I'm excited to see what Ruby does next. What can I say, she's a nice girl.-Nina**
Tasha looked to the six remaining Centaurs and spoke. "Well, it's time for you to get back to camp, then. You have a big day tomorrow. And always remember, if it can happen to them, it can happen to you."
The blue buffed tribe took their wands and walked the path they came from. Ruby trailed in the back in deep thought. Suddenly, a tap on her shoulder made her look up. A producer was standing there, blank-faced. She was about to ask what they wanted, but they simply handed her a figure and a note, said a quiet "Congratulations" and went on their way, urging Ruby back onto the path. She looked at the figure shaped like an elf and read the note. She read it again...and again and again, not believing what it said:
"Congratulations, you have just received a hidden immunity idol! With this idol, you will be able to keep yourself safe during one Tribal Council. This idol is valid until Day 11."
**No...nonono, this can't be happening. I...voted Nina because I was sure she wouldn't be chosen by anyone...she was so nice...this is all my fault and...now I have this? Why am I being rewarded...for eliminating my friend?...I...I can't do this, excusè moi walks off-screen, crying can be heard-Ruby**
Heyo, peepz, it's Drew. I know it's been a while, I keep doing this, smh. However, I'm actively working to get back to writing on this story. Between how long I made these chapters (16,000 words for this one, yikes) and my tendency to procrastinate, I hope you can't blame me, heh. Anywho, as always, thanks to Flash for helping out with the Survivor aspect of this, and thanks to anyone who reads this and finds it entertaining. No idea when the next update will be, but hopefully LESS than six months XD.
Until next time, peepz, so long!
