Katori chews on her nails, bouncing her leg nervously as she waits in her chair for the double-haired boy to enter the classroom. She has formulated her apology to him with the help of her father's encouraging words, and promises herself that she will make a point to appear more friendly with everyone around her.
Her eyes shoot up when she hears shuffling in the seat to her left. She turns to him with a large smile on her face that takes the boy aback a bit. "I wanted to apologize," she begins and he attempts to stop her but she continues. "It was my fault that I went overboard with your Quirk, and I feel guilty about it. I am not a perfect hero—not by a long shot, but that is why I am here. And I promise that I will be better," she promises him, trying not to sound as rehearsed as the speech was.
Todoroki blinks at her apology, "It's alright," he tells her with a small smile. "Your Quirk is powerful and you were trying to win. No need to apologize for that." She smiles at him, pressing her dimples out to the surface of her cheeks that forces a larger smile out of Todoroki.
"You were later than usually today," she notices.
His brows press together, "You didn't notice the crowd outside?" he asks her, gesturing towards the window.
Katori gets up, heading towards the window where she is welcomed by the sight of hundreds of reporters standing at the barricades of the school's gates. Todoroki stands next to her, watching out the window with her. "What are they all here for?" she asks him, eyes still fixated on the crowds of people.
"They want to get an interview with All Might," Kirishima states as he joins the two at the window.
"This is going to stunt our learning," Yaoyorozu groans as she leans against the window with her hand holding up her chin.
"I am sure the teachers will make sure they don't affect our training," Katori says hopefully, stepping away from the window when she bumps into a hard body. She turns around to see that she bumps into Bakugo.
"Hey, watch it, Ugly!" he fumes at her.
"Ugly? That's the best you got?" she sneers at him, rolling her eyes as she turns away from him to return to his seat.
Aizawa enters the room and settles the class down. He begins discussing their scores from the day before, addressing Bakugo first, telling him that he is talented, but needs to stop acting like a child. Katori does her best not to snicker at the comment while the blonde huffs at his teacher's assessment. He moves to Midoriya where he discusses his Quirk again, informing him that he needs to get a better handle on his Quirk and to stop placing his body at risk each time he uses the thing. She listens carefully, knowing that he should have had a better handle of his Quirk and how it affects his body.
"Katori," Aizawa turns to her. She notices that she is the only student that he addresses by their first name, wondering if calling her by her father's surname is too difficult for him. "I watched your tape," he begins and she inhales deeply. "Your Quirk uses other's Quirks, and you need to better understand the drawbacks of their powers. Todoroki strategically used ice in this scenario with the knowledge that a weapon was nearby and could have caused a hazard to everyone with fire. You, however, saw this as a weakness and used his flames against him in order to exploit what you believed to be his handicap," he says and she nods once at him. "Recognize your opponent's Quirk and why they are using it the way they are. That will give you a better understanding of how to use their own power against them."
"Yes, Sir," she says with a firm nod.
Aizawa moves from there to discuss their new exercise for the day, explaining they will be working on rescue attempts from natural disasters. They change into their hero costumes and wait outside for the buses to pick them up as they travel to the structure that will facilitate the training.
Katori watches as Todoroki sits atop a table, waiting for the bus and she joins him while she waits. "Are you excited for this training?" she asks, noticing that he does not seem very interested in the events.
Todoroki looks up at her, "My Quirk is not suited well for rescue," he says, knowing his father has never been one to stay in the rescue attempts either.
She pulls in her shoulders, looking at him with soft eyes. "I don't know, I think it's a useful Quirk in any situation. I mean, if hostages are freezing in an icy lair, you'll be able to provide warmth while also dismantling their fortress," she smiles at him warmly as she closes her eyes.
Yaoyorozu joins the two of them and Katori turns to the girl, "Your Quirk is creation, right?" she asks and the black-haired girl smiles at her with a firm nod. "You had mentioned that you need to know the composition of the item you are creating. I wonder if I can use your Quirk if I don't know how these items are composed."
Yaoyorozu tugs her lips to the right thoughtfully as she presses her fingertips to her chin while she thinks intently. She ultimately lifts her shoulders up in a quick shrug, "I supposed we can try, and see?" she suggests and Katori smiles.
Katori closes her eyes, wetting them before she looks onto the girl with her lavender eyes. Her hair begins lifting weightlessly when Aizawa turns to the girl, "Katori," he growls at her, "You do not have permission to use your Quirk out here. Wait until we are in the arena," he says with a stern tone, but not an angry one.
"Sorry, Sir," she calls out to him, grabbing onto her hair sheepishly. As she says this, Iida directs the students onto the bus, shattering her eardrums with his deafening whistle and strict commands.
She boards the bus and sits next to Kirishima to her right, with the metal divider that blocks the doorway of the bus to her left. She listens in on the conversation to the right, noticing Tsu questioning Midoriya about his Quirk. Her ears perk up at the mention of All Might, and how she too notices the similarities in their power. Katori leans in slightly, trying to hear Midoriya's response to the claim, but Kirishima speaks up, mentioning the differences between the two Quirks.
"Wait, hold on Tsu. You're forgetting All Might doesn't hurt himself. That makes a huge difference," the crimson haired boy speaks up.
This seems to sooth Midoriya, and Katori cannot help but speak up, "Well that could be due to years of practice," she tells the sharp tooth boy. "Midoriya could just not have as much practice as All Might with such a powerful Quirk."
The green-haired boy widens his matching eyes as his body shakes with worry at her words. She watches him carefully, reading him clearly. There is no doubt in her mind that he has a similar, if not the same Quirk as All Might, with the only question being why he does not have as good of a grasp after all these years.
"Still," Kirishima continues, "I bet it is cool to have a simple augmenting-type of Quirk. You can do a lot with those flashy moves. My hardening's super strong and can destroy bad guys in a fight," he says lifting his forearm and hardening his skin to a solid block, "but it doesn't look all that impressive."
"Oh no way," Midoriya looks up at the boy with shining eyes, "I think it's really awesome looking. You're definitely pro material with a Quirk like that."
"I agree," Katori smiles genuinely at the boy to her right with eyes closed in the shape of crescent moons. "You could do a lot with a strong Quirk like that!"
"You really think so? Seems like it would be a lot easier to be a pro hero if I had something flashier."
"My navel laser's got the perfect combination of panache and strength," Aoyama smiles with sparkling eyes.
"Yeah, but it is way lame if it gives you a stomach ache, sweetie," Mina reminds him with a hand on his shoulder.
"Well, if any of our classmates have pro Quirks, It's Todoroki and Bakugo," Kirishima states and Katori's eyes land on the two boys who sit beyond the doorway barricade to her left.
Todoroki's eyes are closed as he sleeps softly behind Bakugo, while the blonde looks from the window to sneer at them, only to quickly move his hard gaze back out the window.
"Sure," Tsu begins, "But Bakugo is always angry, so he'll never be that popular."
Katori bites her lip, stopping herself from laughing aloud as Bakugo explodes at this comment. "What'd you say?" he yells lifting from his seat, "I'll kick your ass!"
"You see?" the frog girl affirms.
"Y'know, we basically just met you, so it's kinda telling we all know your personality is flaming crap mixed with garbage," the electric blonde Kaminari points out with a sideways smile on his face.
This comment sends Bakugo over the edge, as he turns his aggression towards the blonde. "You're going to regret the day you applied to this school, you loser! I'll kill you!" he erupts.
"I don't know, I feel like Satsuma's Quirk is pretty powerful," Mina speaks up, looking over at Katori whose smile leaves her face when she mentions her power.
"Yeah," Kirishima nods looking over at the girl. "You could technically steal Todoroki and Bakugo's Quirk and take them both out!" his crimson eyes widen at her at the thought of her power.
"I'd like to see you try, Copy-Paste!" Bakugo roars at her with crazed eyes and she smirks at him.
"Hey, we're here," Aizawa speaks up unenthusiastically, "Stop messing around."
When they exit the bus, they are welcomed by the space hero Thirteen, who is notorious for saving countless people from natural disasters. Katori finds herself getting excited by this exercise, knowing that it will be a pleasant challenge for her Quirk. They walk into the domelike structure with amplified amazed eyes. Looking back at Katori is an amusement park-like ground of various natural disaster set ups. Katori's eyes survey the area, noticing a ship wreck, landslide, fire, windstorm, and so many more.
Aizawa speaks with Thirteen and the rescue hero tells him that the Number One hero will be late to their training. Aizawa frowns at this, and figures they do not have time to wait for him to join them. Thirteen quickly begins to discuss the power of their Quirks and how each one of them has the ability to save people, but also seriously harm someone. She reminds them that though they will eventually have their licenses to practice their heroing in public, there are still stringent regulations on how they can use their Quirks in the real world.
"Please don't forget that if you lose focus or make the wrong move, your Quirk can be deadly," Thirteen warns them. "Even if you're trying to do something virtuous like rescuing someone," she begins. "Thanks to Aizawa's fitness test, you have a solid idea of your Quirk's potential. And because of All Might's combat training, you likely experienced how dangerous your powers can be when used against other people." Katori's lavender eyes glance over at Aizawa who watches her carefully with steely eyes and arms crossed over his chest. She looks away from him, gritting her teeth as she looks forward. "Carry those lessons over to this class. Today, you're going to learn how to use your Quirks to save people's lives. You won't be using your powers to attack enemies or each other. Only to help," she presses, "After all, that's what being a hero is about."
She concludes their talk and everyone cheers. Katori glances over at Todoroki, feeling a pit building in her stomach at how she used her Quirk against him so viciously. She knows that he has forgiven her for her abrasive attack, but with Thirteen's words, she cannot help but feel the guilt return to build in her throat.
"Right, now that that's over," Aizawa begins unenthusiastically, however, before he can say anymore, the lightbulbs above him shatter and a purple cloud forms a spiraling gate near the water fountain in the center of the arena. Everyone's eyes widen at the spectacle, excited as the mission begins with such fanfare.
The smile wipes off of Katori's face when she sees the look in Aizawa's eyes. She watches as his body tightens and his eyes widen as he turns towards the water fountain and a hand emerges from the purple smoke. "Stay together, and don't move," his voice is rough and harsher than his naturally cool demeanor. "Thirteen, protect the students," he commands and Katori's chest tightens at the tone of his voice, recognizing the urgency in it.
"Wow, what is that thing?" Kirishima gasps as a figure appears from the purple smoke.
Katori's hard gaze lands on the figure approaching them from the gate that opens up before them. She notices a tall lengthy man emerging from the smoke with light bluish hair and severed hands clutching onto his arms and face, while an assortment of other heinous looking foes appears from the smoke.
"Wait, has the training started already?" Kirishima asks with a confused stare. "I thought we were rescuing people."
Katori steps forward, attempting to get a better look when Aizawa snaps at them, "Stay back!" he shouts, placing his yellow goggles on his eyes. "This is real," he says forebodingly. "Those are Villains." The students gasp at Aizawa's threatening tone, looking back at the encroaching groups of antiheroes.
The students begin speculating how the villains entered the secured school and why no alarms are blaring at their clear intrusion. They deduce that one of the villains must have a Quirk to block the communications, and they strategically chose this isolated facility for their attack, but the question remains why.
Katori watches the crowds of Villains that approach them with a harp-pressed glare, wondering what the hell they were doing here. She does not recognize any of them, and her father would not be senseless enough to send villains while she was here. It is clear to her that this group has nothing to do with her father and his ties to the underground, and figures this must be a rogue fraction. She grits her teeth at this knowledge.
"What are you going to do?" Midoriya speaks up to Aizawa with concern lacing his tone. "You can't fight them on your own! There's too many of them. Even if you can nullify their Quirks, your fighting style's not suited for this. Your power works best in stealth and one-on-one fights. That's not going to help with a group," he reminds him with a grim attitude.
"You can't be a pro if you only have one trick," Aizawa says looking back at the green-eyed boy. He kicks himself from the ground, jumping down at the masses of approaching foes with no fear. Aizawa's scarves lift in the air as his hair floats effortlessly while he takes form. Katori watches him, seeing the similarities of their Quirks when in use.
The villains move to fight the pro, underestimating him as they do not recognize who he is or what his Quirk is. Katori watches with baited breath as Aizawa takes their Quirks effortlessly. He wraps his scarf around them, entrapping them in its fabric as he launches the opponents into themselves and knocking them out with ease.
Katori watches with wide astonished eyes as Aizawa combines his martial arts, scarf, and Quirk to take down the villains with little to no effort on his part. Her eyes gleam at the wonderous sight of him knocking out each Villain without difficulty.
Katori continues to watch when Todoroki grabs onto her wrist, tearing her from the fight to look at the two-toned boy. "Come on," he tells her with a leveled tone as she notices the rest of the students fleeing the area. "We have to go," he tells her and she nods at him, following behind him as the class makes their way towards the exit.
Before they can get close to the entrance, the cloud of purple smoke appears before them, speaking to them. "We are the League of Villains," the foreboding voice informs them. "I know it is impolite, but we decided to invite ourselves into this haven of justice to say hello. And besides, isn't this a fitting place for All Might—the Symbol of Peace—to take his last breath? I believe he was supposed to be here today, and yet I see no sign of him. There must've been some change of plans we could not have foreseen. Ah well," the purple cloud extends out its arms, "in the end I suppose it doesn't matter. I still have a role to play."
Before she can process anything, Bakugo and Kirishima jump in with an explosive attack, roaring as they send their offenses at the purple vapor. Katori shields her eyes at the smoke that resides from their hit. "Did you think we were just gonna stand around and let you tear this place to shreds?" Kirishima smirks at their planned attack.
"You live up to your school's reputation," the menacing voice speaks over the cloud of smoke from their attack. "But you should be more careful, children. Otherwise, someone might get hurt."
"Kirishima, get back!" Katori calls out moving forward to grab for the crimson boy.
"You three, get out of the way right now!" Thirteen instructs them.
"I'll scatter you across this facility to meet my comrades, and your deaths!" the ominous voice presses as his cloud of smoke insnares the students.
Katori covers her eyes as wind blows around them and the smoke surrounds them. "Crap what is this?" Kirishima calls out over the whistling wind.
"He's a warp gate!" Katori calls out to him. "He's going to teleport us out of here!" she yells, shielding her eyes and groaning to herself that she cannot use her Quirk. "Grab my hand, Kirishima!" she commands the red-haired boy. "He can't separate us if we hold on to each other!" Kirishima grabs her hand without hesitation as she feels her body being pulled from his. "Bakugo!" she yells as she forces her eyes open at the blonde who attempts to ground himself. "Grab my hand!"
"Don't tell me what to do!" he snaps at her, bending his knees as he tries to keep himself from flying away.
"Don't be an asshole!" she yells at him, snatching his wrist as the three of them are viciously pulled into the warp gate. Bakugo quickly grabs onto Katori's forearm for support as they're pulled apart from one another, fearing that he will be separated from her. He tries to open his eyes to look at her, but the whirling winds are too intense.
The trio scream as they are thrown out of the warp gate and into what appears to be a collapsing building. Katori coughs as she lifts herself to her hands and knees. She grabs her head and looks up to see a group of five or so villains waiting for them with ear-to-ear grins, eager to hurt the children.
Bakugo is the first to jump into action without hesitation, pointing his wrist cannons at one of them and launching them to the ground with an explosive attack. Katori lifts herself to her feet, pressing her back to Kirishima and Bakugo as they watch the surrounding villains. Kirishima hardens his fists, preparing himself for a battle.
"Bakugo, Kirishima, I am going to need to drain some of your Quirk to be helpful here," Katori speaks up, "If you're okay with that, I need you to look at me," she turns her head and without hesitation, the two boys look at her. Her purple eyes flash red as she takes pieces of their Quirk, leaving them enough to fight, but giving herself ample amount. Her black hair lifts into the air and she smiles to herself, "Let's kick some ass," she says with a smirk lacing her lips as the three of them charge at the foes before them.
Katori lunges at one of the villains, punching him in the face with Kirishima's hardening. She steps behind him, twisting around him to turn back and launches an explosive attack at the back of his head. He falls to the ground unconscious, and she looks up to see that Bakugo and Kirishima take out their opponents with little effort.
"Five on three," Bakugo scoffs, "Odds don't seem to be in their favor," he laughs with a triumphant roar.
Katori's eyes transfer over to the lower levels to see more approaching them. "Don't worry, Bakugo, more are on the way to taste our dirt," she says with a smile reaching her lips, reveling in this training. She has never used Quirks like these, and to use them with no restrictions against villains makes her heart flutter with joy.
The trio jump into action without any further hesitation. Even with Kirishima and Bakugo drained of a percentage of their power by Katori's Quirk, the two of them are still able to hold their own effortlessly against these rogues. She launches an attack using Bakugo's explosive power and sends the villain flying against the wall, knocking him unconscious.
She turns to look back at Bakugo who lunges towards the ground, with an attack, sending two charging villains flying by the trajectory of his blast. Her eyes widen at the skillful use of his Quirk, and reminds herself to use an attack like that when she has multiple foes on her.
Kirishima grunts as he uses his hardened arms against another opponent, hitting him across the head and knocking him out. He pants wildly as his eyes survey the room.
"Think that's the last of these guys, bunch of weaklings," Bakugo grunts disappointedly. Katori surveys the area, kneeling down and checking to make sure each villain is down and secured.
"Alright, let's hurry and find the rest of our class," Kirishima returns. "If we are still in the USJ, then everyone else probably is too. And not all of them have the offensive skills we do. We gotta make sure they're safe, especially since we screwed things up when we got in the way earlier," he says thinking back at how they jumped prematurely towards the warp villain. "If Thirteen had been able to suck up that villain, then we never would have been separated like that. We have to make it up to the others!"
Bakugo turns away from him while Katori continues to scope out the room, "If you want to track everyone down, have fun. But I am going to destroy that warpy bastard," he grunts with determination.
"Huh?" Kirishima questions. "Our physical attacks didn't hurt that guy. Come on, don't be an idiot, man."
"Shut up," Bakugo snaps. "I'm going to take him down because he is their way in and out. If I cut their escape route, they will be stuck here and have to pay for what they've done. We'll just have to figure it out!"
Katori sees something moving in the corner of the room and her eyes flash onto it. She widens her eyes as a camouflaged villain lunges at Bakugo. Before she can call out to the blonde, he snatches the chameleon looking monster with his hand and explodes his head with a targeted hit.
"If all of these villains are small fries like these guys were, then our classmates can handle them," Bakugo says coolly.
"That reaction time was insane," Kirishima fanboys.
"Something doesn't seem right here," Katori finally speaks up as the two boys look at her for an explanation. "Bakugo was right, these guys are small fries," she begins, deep in thought. "I can sense a person's Quirk before draining it, and I can sense the power of their Quirk. No one in this room even came close in strength to either of you guys," she says and the two boys puff up their chests at her unintentional stroke of their egos. She rolls her eyes at their response, "what I mean is, these guys were less than Z-Class Villains. A kid could take them out. They mentioned All Might. There is no way these guys could stand to pose a threat to the Number One hero."
"They are obviously a distraction," Bakugo begins unenthusiastically. "The real threats are warpy and duplo-hands," he grumbles.
"But why not get higher class villains?" Katori questions. "I understand they are just to take us out, but come on, we are students of the top hero school. They had to have known they would be taken out."
"Maybe they underestimated us?" Kirishima questions.
"No," she shakes her head, deep in thought. "I don't think these guys are professional," she thinks aloud. "League of Villains. I've never heard of them. They must be new and trying to make a name for themselves, that's why they can't get any villain of worth to join their ranks. This is a show to gain notoriety; the first group of villains to infiltrate the hero academy. Killing All Might is just a farfetched fantasy they've tacked on if they can manage to pull it off."
"Doesn't matter," Bakugo says harshly, pulling her from her thoughts. "If you guys want to go save the rest of our class, knock yourselves out. I'm going to fight."
"Wait a minute, I think what you're saying is you believe in our classmates," Kirishima teases, "And that's thinking like a man, Bakugo!"
Katori glances out the window when her eyes land on Aizawa and the boss villains. "Oh no," she groans in a desolate tone as she watches wide-eyed while the larger villain smashes his face into the ground, twisting his arms behind his back beyond their breaking point. The two boys join her at the window and watch helplessly as the villain twists Aizawa's arm and crushes it under his feet. She cannot hear him crying out, or the sound of his bones breaking from their distance to him, but she can see the pain he is placed under, and panic begins constricting her chest. "We have to help him!"
Katori steps from the window but Kirishima and Bakugo stay frozen, watching as Aizawa continues to get his head smashed into the ground. "Oh no he's moving to Tsu!" Kirishima calls out. Katori runs to the window to see as the man with multiple hands attached to his body moves to touch Tsu. She figures touching someone has something to do with activating his Quirk, but she is too far to fully assess it. The trio watch in horror as he reaches for her, knowing they are too far and helpless to stop him.
His fingers wrap around her face and the three of them hold their breaths as they watch and wait for the horror, however, when nothing happens, they all exhale in unison. "What's going on? He didn't do anything," Bakugo grumbles.
Katori widens her eyes, "Aizawa!" she calls out, seeing him use his blocking Quirk in a last-ditch effort to save his student. "We have to help, now!" she commands, knowing that they don't have much time.
She turns from the window with Kirishima and as they make their way towards the door, they hear a faint war cry, and the building begins to quake. "What was that?" Katori calls out over the rumbling as she shields her head from any potential falling debris.
"Deku," Bakugo grunts with gritted teeth, quickly moving from the window to join the two.
