Renesmee
"No measure of time with you will be long enough. But we'll start with forever." -Stephanie Meyer
While I sat in the ambulance with Jacob and Rachel, it occurred to me that I hadn't eaten all day. My stomach growled and with the way Jacob laughed, it was either really loud, or I made a really funny face.
We sat in the waiting room while Paul was on the phone trying to breathe. He kept muttering under his breath about how stupid he was. I couldn't disagree with that sometimes, but he didn't have to beat himself up about this. I felt so bad for him. Just finding out Rachel's pregnant, then finding out she's in the hospital. Just thinking about it made me get scared. What was going to happen with Jacob and me. Why was this having to happen? Of all days.
Paul finally appeared, and that didn't make me feel any better. His eyes were red and bloodshot, I had never seen this, but it looked like he had been crying.
"Where is she? I need to see her. Please." He knew what I was going to say, even before I could say it.
"Calm down dude. Renesmee was there just in time to call 911." Jake defended. "Alice had a vision. She was the one who told Renesmee to run to my house." He said in his soothing tone. I loved him like that. The nurse came up to us and started talking. When we were finally able to see Rachel, Jacob and I stayed behind so then Paul could see her.
"Hey do you want to go to the cafeteria. I know you're hungry." Jake said. He was so sweet. I nodded and we walked to the cafeteria.
"So… about this morning." I started. Jacob stopped eating and started to pay attention. "I've been experiencing things, and I don't know what to do. I just wanted to tell you that, I think I'm in love with you." I was blushing so hard that I almost burst. His eyes widened, and for a second, I thought that I definitely made a huge mistake.
But he didn't do what I expected. He leaned in and kissed me. Full on. It felt super cheesy, but it was like there were fireworks blowing up my mind. Wow, this was amazing. I started to feel people staring, but we didn't care. But then we remembered that we were in a hospital. Not at a normal house. When we pulled away, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a hooded figure in a dark cloak.
'Oh No.' I thought. The volturi had been stalking me for over a year now. But my family had always been there when I had seen one. But this time it was just Jake. But what scared me was that we were in a hospital that smelled like blood to vampires. Jake saw my face and understood. We were not safe here.
When we ran up to Rachel's room, we paused.
"Should we just go in?" Jacob asked.
"I don't know. Let's just go and tell them that we have to leave." I said quickly.
While we went in, it was silent. The curtain was drawn around the bed.
"Ahh…" said a familiar woman's voice. "There was no way that I couldn't drop by for a quick snack." The shadow of the woman was small, and her voice seemed hard, and cold. Much more evil than I remembered. "Do you even remember me Renesmee? How would you like a reminder?" She said. Her voice was as sharp as blades. All of a sudden, Jake jumped in front of me. A split second later, he was curled up on the ground. I looked back, now there were two shadows. 'Both brother and sister' I thought.
"Well how are you? Jane and Alec." I spat. This is why my parents never left. I remembered now. The Volturi was always sending scouts. But none of them have approached me. Classic Jane. Always trying to take the lead. "What do you want, if you just want to check up on me, I'm developed, and get the hell away from Rachel. She has nothing to do with this!" I didn't realize that my voice was rising. The nurse knocked on the door.
"Everything ok there?" He asked. His voice was sweet, almost too sweet. Another one of them. But which one of them? Probably a new recruit. What was going on? This had never happened. Jake's eyes widened, then completely passed out.
"What have you done to him? You evil little…" I was about to say something that I knew I'd regret if it was Jane and Alec. But luckily Jane cut me off.
"Oh, dear sweet, innocent Renesmee. You have no idea what your parents had brought upon themselves when they had you. Then it became even worse when they challenged the Volturi a few years back. But you were at poor Renee's house. Oh, why they kept it from you, I don't know." Then she let out a strong, but cruel laugh. She was getting on my nerves.
"Just leave here. We're fine, and you are no longer welcome in the town of Forks. So, off you go." I spoke like I was older than her. Oh this was so fun! Jane and Alec huffed at the same time. Then with a blink of an eye, they were gone. I pulled the curtain open and sighed in relief. They had not touched Rachel. 'Good. Or else they would be in serious trouble.' I thought.
Jacob was waking up, and good thing too, because Paul and everyone burst into the room. There was Sam, Emily, Quil, Claire, Jared, Leah, Alice, and a lot more that I couldn't even see. There were way too many people. Wow, this room was getting crowded. They saw that Rachel was unconscious, and Jacob was barely recovering after our encounter with the Volturi. Sam saw my worried face, and knew immediately. His face turned from happy and fine, to stern and angry. He made a face that signaled the other wolves. They turned to their imprints and told them that they had to go. Leah looked so annoyed. She still didn't have an imprint. I felt so bad for her. Having to see Sam and Emily here together, I couldn't even imagine how bad it would be. We all walked out while the girls, excluding Leah, helped with Rachel.
Wolf meetings really bugged me. I was the only girl other than Leah. But all she talked about was imprinting and why she thinks people imprint. Ugh. Her ideas were super weird.
Jacob
Even though I was one of the wolf leaders, I still hated the meetings with Sam.
"So, from the look on Renesmee's face, and Jacob on the floor," Quil and Paul snickered. "I'm guessing that you had another encounter?" Renesmee and I nodded in unison.
"This time was different though." Renesmee confirmed. "This time they approached me. But they were in the room. It was Jan and Alec. They kept talking about drinking blood from patients, but I assumed that it was Rachel they were talking about because they were next to her." I heard Paul growl Jane's name. "Then Jane thought that I didn't remember her, then when she was about to hit me, Jake moved in front of me." Renesmee grabbed my hand and I felt my face burn. I pulled her in for a hug. Everyone 'awwed' but then I shot them a death-like glance. They backed off.
"They also said something about my parents, and challenged Volturi a couple years ago. What was that all about? I want real answers too." She said. Everyone let out a sigh. I knew this was going to be a really long story so I cut in.
"I'll tell you later at the house. But I think that it might be better if I stay over. I don't trust the Volturi." I said. Everyone nodded in agreement. When we walked back into Rachel's room Renesmee pulled me aside.
"Thanks for taking on Jane's powers for me." She hugged me again, and I felt like I was going to explode full of happiness. I hugged her back, but she continued talking in our hug. "Can I confess something to you?" She asked shyly. I was nervous about what she was going to say, but if it had something to do with the things Edward talked to me about, I wanted to hear this. I nodded, telling her to continue and she took a deep breath. "I've been having dreams about you. Most of them were just normal friend, or boyfriend/girlfriend stuff, but it got more mature last night when I developed." She kept looking away, and I was happy about that. If she saw me, she'd see how much I was blushing. "A couple years ago, when we were at a random wedding, you talked to me about imprinting. You said that the relationship between them depended on the person that the wolf imprinted on. But I think something happened last night." She held her hand to my face, and showed me the memory of her dream. My heart started racing. When she put her hand down, her face was as red as mine. I could feel everyone's eyes on us from the window of Rachel's room. But I pushed that idea out of my mind.
"I didn't know what to do, but I know now." She continued. I pulled her closer to me. As she wrapped her arms around my neck, I felt a sudden burst of joy. When we finally kissed, I felt like I was the happiest man alive. I heard people cheering in the room. Seth jumped out going at the speed of light. He smacked me on the back. Then all the guys pulled me to one side of the hall, and the girls pulled Renesmee to the other side. All the guys congratulated me even though I just kissed Renesmee for the first time, they boys were already fighting about being the best man. But it probably wasn't as bad as Renesmee's problem. The girls were squealing so loudly, I thought my eardrums were about to burst.
We walked to each other almost in unison. But something was definitely wrong. I couldn't put my finger on it, but I was pretty sure it had to do with Jane and Alec. I didn't hear what they said, but I knew that from Renesmee's face, something must have made her become really rattled. I would totally find out what it was. No matter what.
