Return to Macross
A sequel to Earth Wanderers
chapter 3
They left the Observatory, heading toward downtown once again.
Hikaru was extremely nervous. The backs of his palms were sweating. The crease of his elbow, where Misa was softly leaning as they walked, was similarly damp. He wondered if Misa could sense his tension. Maybe she was waiting for him to invite her to a room somewhere.
Sure we could go to one of our rooms, but I could never bring Misa into the pilots' quarters... like just any other girl . That would be too embarrassing. What if someone saw us?
He clearly remembered when he had asked Minmay to go to the Persian Love Motel during their date. At the time, he wasn't sure if it was or not also a regular hotel. In any case, Minmay had rejected his offer with contempt. Hikaru knew that this motel was used by Macross couples to get some privacy and whatnot. He knew this because he had heard Kakizaki talking about it in the hangars.
"There's a front desk where you could walk or drive in, select a room on the panel and enter. And when you check out, you pay your bill using the automatic payment machine. No one sees you at the front desk and you can walk right out the back of your room!"
Easy enough, but... once there they would DO it.
Hikaru was tensing.
Of course when we're alone she'll want to do it too... but what if she doesn't?
His heartbeat increased as he vividly remembered how he had heard her moaning and panting beneath him. He felt his body reacting to all those mental triggers. He tried to think of something ugly, and boring.
-Hikaru, something wrong?
Misa was leaning comfortably on his arm, her eyes were moist.
His breathing was up to the brim and his blood flowed faster. He had to ask her once and for all.
I can't keep thinking in a loop anymore!
Hikaru stopped in the midst of the street. The traffic light was green. Misa glanced at him but he couldn't even meet her gaze, so he just looked ahead and said in a rush.
-Let's go into a hotel somewhere. I want to be alone with you. Do you...?
Misa opened her eyes wide, lowered her head and just stared at the floor. She immediately felt an overwhelming warmth fill her chest and neck, up to her ears. The memory of their night together filled her stomach with fluttering butterflies. She clenched her nails even tighter in Hikaru's arm.
The seconds passed terribly slow.
What would he think of me if I agreed to spend the night in a hotel...?
As a girl raised in a certain old-fashioned way her thoughts were along these lines.
"Misa you serious or what? You're young, you survived the Zentraedi's capture, and by some miracle, you're alive after a month spent on Earth starving... now is no time to waste time on such bullshit!"
Misa seemed to hear Claudia's voice scolding her in her cheerful, loving way.
"Catch the moment, come on! We're at war, and... live life at the fullest, that's the only thing we can do."*
Misa silently nodded. Wasn't that what she wanted? She wanted to hug him and she wanted him to hug her... and she also wanted... her reasonable mind refused to admit such a simple fact...she couldn't resist him. If he had kissed her as he had before, yeah she would have been his again, for as long as he would have asked for.
Hikaru couldn't look at her face yet, so he hadn't seen that she was nodding.
-Yes...do you know any place...where we can go...?
she whispered, narrowing her eyes as she curled around his arm.
Hikaru's heart skipped a beat: he wasn't sure he had got it right. He tilted his face towards hers noticing that her eyes were still shut in embarrassment.
-Misa...
-Excuse me, this is the first time for me.
- but I...
she coughed to stall
- I...I want to go.
-Misa... this is my first time too.
he said softly.
This took a great weight off her heart. As if driven by an electric charge she jumped into his arms, hanging on his neck and holding him tight. The trench coat dropped to the ground with a small thud.
She didn't want to think about Minmay and the eventuality of Hikaru being together with her in a hotel.
He said it was his first time...
Certainly, at seeing him so clumsy, fumbling in the reception with his credit card while selecting a room in the large panel display... maybe it was not a lie.
Misa felt so uncomfortable, she looked at him from the end of the hallway as he picked up the key.
It's just a room...but it's so embarrassing...Oh God I'll never get to tell Claudia or the girls about this!
" -Did you hear of Lieutenant Hayase!?
-who? Oni-san?**
-she went to a hotel with a UN Spacy Pilot!
-no way! i'll never believe that!
-so even Lieutenant Hayase is interested in men?!***"
She felt like she could hear the terrible trio chatting and gossiping just behind her back.
-Shall we?
Hikaru's voice pulled her out of those mixed thoughts.
Misa nodded
-Yes...
The room was on the very top floor, on a sort of rooftop loft. The hallways were empty, lightly lit by a few heart-shaped neon lamps. It was rather tacky but more of kawai than kitschy. Hikaru walked ahead until he stopped in front of the selected door. He popped the lock with the keycard and, not waiting for her, stepped inside. Misa followed him, confused, then slipped inside as well. The doors shut with a slight click.
When Hikaru had first looked at the list of available rooms, he had immediately rushed to the "gold" class, whatever that meant. He had scrolled apprehensively through the pics of the bigger rooms without really taking note of what they were like. He was so tense that he picked one at random, because he was afraid that Misa, in the meantime, would change her mind and dump him right there. But Misa had been still standing in a corner, silently waiting for him.
He scrolled with his palm over the display, looked at the prices and selected the most expensive one. Then he clicked on the length of stay: "all night." He paid with his UN Spacy card. Fortunately it was still working.
The best room. Hikaru had already forgotten what it looked like as he opened the door and found himself in a huge suite. It was at least as big as Global's boardroom, and it was definitely, exaggeratedly... pink! The king side bed towered in the middle of the room, and Hikaru slightly blushed. He knew that Misa had come in after him, but he was so embarrassed that he took a few steps forward to the window. He turned his head and flipped up the electric curtains, revealing a spectacular view. Like in a kaleidoscope, he could see the whole city of Macross in its night glory and, through the ship's vents, the alien city on the ocean, all lit up by the moonlight. Hikaru widened his eyes in amazement. Misa had settled her trench coat and handbag on a small pink velvet embroidered chair. She had smoothed out the dress skirt and had nervously brushed a strand of hair behind her shoulder.
Now what... What happens?
Hikaru nervously ran a hand over the base of his neck.
-It's a beautiful sight isn't it?
he said just to say
-Yes.
Misa was almost shaking. She looked around and saw that there were some floor lamps on the room. She turned them all on and a soft warmth filled the air.
Definitely better
she thought
Then she saw, encased inside an alcove, a small bar fridge and a shelf with some pretty pink glassware. There were sake glasses and tea cups. And champagne flutes, too. Misa wondered if they were allowed to open the fridge.
Hikaru headed for the bathroom: he leaped down a small step and opened the doors of the white and pink door. They resembled in every way two huge slices of strawberry cake. When he entered the room he let out a whistle.
He had never seen anything like it before. It was the size of his dorm. In the middle was a huge heart-shaped bathtub, and it was pink! It was so kitschy that Hikaru let out a giggle.
Oh god...but they weren't going to use it anyway, or maybe...?
Hikaru wondered if Misa hadn't already regretted it all. Maybe she was making fun of him for the gaudiness of that room.
He ran a hand through his hair
Oh, damn!
It seemed that night was ruled by uncertainty.
In the meanwhile, Misa was checking the fridge.
Her eyes widened in delight. There were all kinds of fruits inside, and little colorful sweets like macarons. Strawberries, pineapples, blueberries and kiwis. All neatly arranged in their little heart shaped see-through boxes.
And then an incredible range of drinks. Petit cola, Asashi beer, red wine, vodka, saké. Misa was stunned: that room must have cost Ichijo a lot of money.
On the shelf above the fridge was a pink kettle with a box, overflowing with teabags of every quality: green, black and white, lemon balm and sakura tea, relaxing and energetic blends.
She put her fingers to her lips, letting out a little sigh of wonder.
In her modest, closed life, she had never had time for such amusements. But now, her young heart was blossoming like a flower.
-it's all so cute...
she whispered
-do you like it?
Hikaru silently walked up behind her and heard her self talking
Misa turned around and started to blush and gesture.
-oh yes! look ...
she grabbed a teacup with cherry blossoms and pointed to the kettle
-there are so many different varieties of tea!
she said excitedly
-and also fruits and...
In the bustle, the cup she was holding by the handle escaped her grasp, made a small twist and landed on the floor with a thud, splitting in two.
-Oh!
Misa widened her eyes in dismay.
-Oh no, I'm sorry, I...
immediately she crouched down on the floor to pick up the broken pieces. Hikaru copied her moves by bending down in front of her and stretching his hands on the broken cup.
-Let go of me, you may get hurt.
He cautiously took the large shards in between two fingers.
-I'm sorry... I'll pay for it.
said Misa bitterly
Hikaru glanced at her tenderly
-It doesn't matter... I think it's already covered!
They stayed a few more moments like that on the floor, on their knees, staring at each other.
Misa smiled coyly
-it's all so... cute
she said again.
He couldn't tell if she was referring to the room or to the feeling of being there, alone, with him.
They stood up abruptly and didn't stop looking into each other's eyes.
-ehr... yeah, it is.
Hikaru inhaled noisily as if after a severe effort. There she was, inches from him, her pink lips slightly parted.
He wondered if that was now the time. She was so beautiful. The terrible Lieutenant Hayase, scarier than a demon, was looking at him with a mixture of both impatience and awe. Hikaru thought she was like that just for him. In some tortuous, selfish way, he thought that no one could have her like that: that Misa was his. That at least for that one night, Misa was his alone.
Suddenly he cut the small distance between them, wrapped his arm around her, squeezing her against his body. Misa gasped in surprise when he covered her lips with his, resuming the hot kiss they had shared on the bench. An overwhelming feeling invaded them both. Soon she found herself trapped between the wall and his body.
She could barely catch her breath in the short few moments when he left her lips to catch his own. The grip of his hands on her waist and hips was almost aching. Without ever stopping kissing her, he ran his palm over the curve of her backside to the hem of her dress, then slid both hands under the cloth, caressing her thighs, her skinny hips, and the thin lace line of her underwear. Misa gasped realizing that things were quickly coming to a point of no return.
His hand went up her flat stomach and ribcage, caressing every inch of her skin. Then he was blocked by the seam of the dress just below her breasts. Hikaru pushed his fingertips harder, making the stitching creak.
He couldn't believe he had to wrestle with that stupid piece of material. Yet that was exactly what was happening
-hey...
Misa panted as he ran his tongue over the curve of her neck, making her shiver from head to toe.
-mmmh
he grunted cupping both breasts with his palms, stroking and squeezing them slightly.
They were still up against the wall, fully clothed. Hikaru pressed against Misa's hips with some urgency now showing her without hesitation his condition. She wondered hazily what she should have done. Should she have undressed? or was she supposed to undress him? Oh she hadn't expected things to be so messy.
She let go a moan of surprise when she felt Hikaru's fingers enter through her panties and work their way into her center. Misa clutched her arms around his neck even tighter, trying to assume a more comfortable position. But her legs were tense and his fingers were rushed and hurt her. She gasped again trying to spread her legs but that stance was only making her feel worse.
She tried to squirm away but he pushed her a little too hard causing the back of her head to hit the wall.
Misa frowned and let out a sad moan... Hikaru heard it and immediately froze. He slid her fingers out of her skirt.
-Lieutenant Hayase! I'm sorry!
Then they both gasped in shock and horror.
Misa slinked out of Hikaru's arms, passing under his elbow and, busily smoothing her skirt and hair, she walked a few steps away. The warm light of the lamps lighted up her eyes, already moist with tears.
-Don't call me that!
she cried
Suddenly all the stress built up during the day blew her nerves. She became hopelessly angry with him and with herself.
What was she going to do with him after all?
He didn't love her...
and I...I do love him?
She fell onto the bed, one hand rubbing the soft silk bedspread, while the back of her other hand convulsively wiped away the tears that didn't seem to stop.
Hikaru was shocked.
Why had he called her by rank? And now, why was she crying? Was she crying for that or because he had been too hasty? He had embraced her eagerly, impatiently. He had been struggling to undress her and had become quite anxious.
But the truth was something else, too. He was tense. It wasn't the same as on Earth, in the alien city. Everything had gone wonderfully smoothly that night, among the ruins. But now everything was hard. And he was still haunted by the constant thought of his impending punishment. He wanted more than anything to have her body again, feel her thin, velvety skin beneath his. He wanted to chase away the anguish that had stalked him all evening.
-I'm... I'm sorry.
Hikaru dropped exhausted on the other side of the bed. He put his elbows on his knees and hid his face in his hands.
It felt as if Misa had stopped sobbing and was listening carefully to his breathing.
He turned towards her... She was so beautiful: her lips were flushed from his rough kisses. Her eyes had got an almost autumnal hue in the warm glow of the lamps.
He wondered what he was really feeling
Maybe is this love?
When you see that someone crying and you want to hug them and carry all their pain with you.
-Misa.
His face was too earnest to hide what he was feeling.
His eyes stared at her with sincere regret. Whatever there was between them, it had always been hard, and now it was complicated by the fact that they were back on Macross. She wasn't fooling herself, it was going to be difficult to be together, but still...
It will be okay as long as we are together
Hikaru had said it and she had believed him...
Misa bounced on the soft mattress and sat down beside him.
-I'm sorry I called you by rank. I ... I don't know what got into me.
he said staring at the floor.
-It's okay. I'm sorry, too. For yelling at you, and all.
she said in a sweet, understanding way
Then she brushed her hair over her shoulders, pulled up her elbows, and turned three-quarters showing him her back.
For a moment he didn't catch on, and stared at her puzzled
- Its here, just behind my back
she said softly
Finally Hikaru could see it. The little black zipper disguised in the black fabric of the dress. Misa grabbed the hook and carefully pulled it down. The dress parted over her shoulder blades revealing a glimpse of her black lace bra.
His heart skipped a beat.
-All you had to do was ask
she said without turning around. She sounded calm, but her right hand desperately clenched the silk bedspread in a fist.
Then she felt the warmth of his breath on the nape of her neck.
-I'm sorry.
-We've said it too much today.
she said, turning back fiercely.
She cupped his face in her hands looking into his eyes.
-Please don't say it again. At least... for what's left of today.
Hikaru was overwhelmed by a feeling he couldn't decode. He placed his hands on hers. Once again she had proven to be so smart, so brave.
-I'm a mess as a date, aren't I?
Misa nodded, and then smiled.
-But you can still improve...how long do we have left?
Hikaru rested his fingertips on her bare shoulder, gently, with care.
-All... night long.
Then she tilted her head to receive a trail of sweet kisses on her neck. His warm, moist breath made her shiver. Uncertain and very slowly, Misa began to unfasten the buttons of his shirt, one by one. The rest of their clothes fell in a bulk off the bed. The mattress was soft and incredibly noiseless. Only the sound of their sighs could be heard in the still air.
Misa curled into his arms, their legs still intertwined. Hikaru slowly stroked her shoulder down to her elbow. The way he ran his callused fingertips over her smooth skin had a rhythm that Misa had already learned to know. Their breathing was still rough and their heart rate was long, loud, almost noisy. Once again Misa closed her eyes on his chest and clung to his neck. He stroked her head and her hair ruffled around his fingers like a web. A thin layer of sweat coated their young bodies. The blood was pumping mightily under their skin and Hikaru felt full of energy.
-say Misa, are you sleepy?
she shook her head still keeping her eyes closed.
-I'm not...
then she lifted her chin towards him, caught by a sudden thought.
-you really got the room for the whole night?
Hikaru nodded, mesmerized by her eyes. In the lamplight, they were as clear as a jade stone crossed by a sunbeam.
-but if you prefer, we can leave right now... it doesn't matter.
Misa looked at him as if he had made a wrong maneuver with the Valkyrie just after leaving the hangar.
she tapped him on the chest
-how can you say that!?
Hikaru grinned, relieved
-is that you are unpredictable. I still wonder if in a moment you'll be yelling and chewing me out for something I said with no thinking
-Well that's your problem...you always talk off the cuff without linking your brain.
Hikaru raised up on one elbow as he looked down at her. His eyes sparkled with excitement. Covertly he cast a glance at her chest: her breasts were slightly covered by the silk sheet but he could easily see their shape.
-I'm more of an action type... As you may have noticed. I prefer to do than talk.
In one flash he flipped the sheet off onto the floor, leaving Misa completely naked.
She instantly covered her breasts with her arms, crossing her legs and letting out a little cry
-Baka!****
Hikaru covered her with his body, biting and pinching her all around.
Misa's skin turned mottled pink as she choked back her chuckles. Then she caught sight of his gaze, fixed on her.
-What, now?
She said, still smiling. Her eyes were narrowed from laughing, and Hikaru couldn't help but stare at her in wonder.
Misa used to smile with him, but her eyes were always sad and her face kept a melancholy composure. But now he had made her laugh with her whole face and that had delighted him. He haughtily thought that Misa's smile was his alone. That her voice, as she laughed, belonged to him alone. He wanted that night to never end.
They opened the fridge and ate fruit while drinking beer and Petit cola on the bed.
They talked for a long time, and as the hours passed their talks was interrupted by sweet kisses and hot fondling that led them to heaven.
They compared their hospital memories
-I asked straight away to see you Misa, but they wouldn't let me...
-same to me.
-and then they summoned us to the council.
Global's attitude seemed suspicious to both of them.
-You sure know him well, Misa.
-He seemed weirdly laconic, and the other council members were... kind of nervous too.
Hikaru ran a hand through his hair then lifted up to sit on the bed, his back to her. He sighed painfully.
-I am well aware that you don't have to reveal anything to me, Misa. But this is just killing me.
Misa furrowed her brows. Instinctively, she sat beside him, covering her naked body with the sheet.
-Hikaru... what does that mean?
He looked into her eyes for a long time. The pupils were wide, making his blue eyes almost black.
-I expect to be tried for what happened
he said dryly, sadly. Then he glanced at the wall .
-I am aware that the whole... disaster ...was my fault...
-Hikaru don't...
she tried to say, but he cut off
-I am aware, that it's my fault. Roy's death... and Minmay... Minmay and Kaifun taken by the aliens. They're probably dead too... and all the shame I brought on the Skull Squadron and the UN Spacy... I will accept my punishment. I will accept giving up flying.
Misa looked at him in horror. He was in such pain, and she hadn't realized it. How could she have been so self-absorbed? He needed her at this very critical time. Yes...as much as she needed him. Now more than ever.
-Hikaru no... Hikaru please listen ...
She cupped his face in her hands again
-It's true... what happened was a horrible misfortune but you can't take all the blame.
-Why not? It's the truth.
he smiled bitterly.
-You said it too, didn't you?
Misa regretfully recalled how she had cursed him on the beach, in front of the Promoteus' carcass, blaming him for everything that had happened.
She blushed and two big tears popped at the edges of her eyes
-no... no...
she shook her head
-I'm sorry I...I'm sorry... Oh, I'm a horrible person!
Misa clutched her knees to her chest, hiding her face in the sheets folds.
He rested a hand on her shoulder: his smile was sad but his eyes still looked at her in that same unique way
-Hey Misa...
she sniffed
-Didn't we promise not to say the word "sorry" again today?
Their fronts brushed against each other. Hikaru ran his fingertips along her bare back, stroking every inch of skin in devotion. He took a lock of her long strands between his fingers and for a moment seemed to formulate a long, hard thought.
-I will accept my punishment. And I know this may sound selfish...but...I...I don't want to lose you...
He eyed her keenly. Misa's heart was pounding. She took a long breath, she carefully searched for the right words:
-It's true, Hikaru, there was an accident and we can't deny that. But what about everything else? Of how you have acted on the ravaged earth? Of how valiant and brave you have been in our mission? We discovered an alien city that probably has a connection with the Zentraedis...
-you did it...
he murmured
-no Hikaru, we did it... together, you and me... and if it wasn't for you I wouldn't even be here, I would probably be... dead...
Misa looked at him with resolution, her green eyes blazing, as when on the bridge ,she led the pilots into the battle.
-you saved me. In every way a person can be saved...you...saved me...
Hikaru frowned, and squeezed his eyes hard to chase back the tears.
Those words, they were the sweetest words anyone had ever spoken to him. More than a declaration of love and more than any promise. Hikaru realized that, perhaps... for the first time in his life, he didn't feel alone anymore. He had Misa with him now...
-Oh Misa...
Unable to say more, he wrapped his arms around her, covering her face, cheeks, eyes and forehead with his kisses. Then he placed his ardent lips on hers.
She held him tightly, clinging to his neck, lovingly returning his kisses and caresses and slowly they slid back into the crumpled bedsheets.
As he entered her once more, smoothly, deeply, she wondered if she could live without him from now on.
No...I can't.
She clutched at him with all the strength she had as her sighs became louder and louder moans.
Just... just don't leave me
It was the same dream he had all his life. A soft warmth surrounded his body, warm soft hands caressed his face. It smelled like a summer morning: he always woke up before seeing her face but he could still hear the sound of her voice saying
sleep Hikaru, sleep my love...
His eyelids twitched a couple of times as he felt her gentle touch
sleep my love
With a supreme effort he grabbed that hand, he didn't want her to disappear, he wanted to see her eyes.
-Wait
he murmured in his sleep.
Misa, lying on her side, had been watching him for a while, once again stunned at the perfection of his features as he lay deeply asleep. Then he started to stir and murmured something unintelligible. Misa gently stroked his head, shifting a strand of unruly hair from his forehead. As she had done that night on the beach, on Earth. It seemed like years ago: she smiled .
Then he grabbed her hand, squeezing Misa's thin fingers in his palm. She let go a little moan of surprise as he opened his eyes wide. For a moment he didn't realize where he was. He focused on her face, it was so close that their noses could touch.
-Misa...
he murmured. His lips were dry
-Did you have a bad dream?
-I...
Hikaru was still entangled in the shreds of that dream.
-It's a dream I've been having ... for years... but this time it was different...
he ran a hand over his face as if to chase away a train of thought.
Then he stared at her again, as if seeing her for the first time.
-Misa..I think I dreamed of you
Misa blushed as she avoided his gaze.
-ahah, really? and it was a pleasant dream?
He held her chin with his hand, forcing her to look into his eyes.
-I... yes it was beautiful...
Misa looked at him, surprised
-you... are so beautiful, Misa
She blushed again, her heart almost bursting.
Hikaru held her by the waist making her cling to his broad chest, then carefully covered her shoulders with the sheet. The warmth of her body was like an instant dope that made him fall asleep again immediately.
Misa hid her face in the curve of his neck and closed her eyes.
sleep my love...
Daybreak just couldn't wait. At 6 o'clock their alarms started to ring.
Misa opened her eyes wide in panic and got up sitting on the bed. For a moment she didn't realize where she was. Then became aware that she was naked, surrounded by silky sheets.
-Good morning!
-Good... good morning.
Instinctively Misa wrapped in the bed sheets, quickly covering herself. The dim light of the artificial dawn slowly streamed in through the curtains.
-It's time
she said gloomily. For some reason she couldn't look into his eyes.
Hikaru raised himself up on an elbow, running a hand through his hair, leisurely.
-It is.
Misa was conscious of his staring at her body. For a moment neither of them spoke.
She wondered what she was supposed to do. In less than two hours the council was expecting them for a meticulous debrief on the alien city.
Misa mentally went over all the highlights of her report. She had already written it down and memorized it in her brain.
She didn't notice that Hikaru was calling her.
-Hey Misa? Misa, did ya see the bathroom?
-mh? The bathroom?
-there is a huuuge heart-shaped jacuzzi tub.
Hikaru got up to sit beside her and put a hand under the material.
-what about ...
he ran a hand over the curve of her hip: instantly small goosebumps started forming all over her leg.
-What about trying it... together?
Misa flushed, her eyes growing wide. She thought for a moment about hiding under the bed. Her first reaction was to that. But she manage to keep enough self-control to not move a muscle and simply stare at him.
-What?
-c'mon, don't be shy, I've already seen you taking a bath, remember?
Hikaru burst into laughter and Misa wondered how he could be so... so...
-How you can be such an idiot!
She wrapped herself up even tighter in the sheets, then started to punch him randomly in the chest and arms. Hikaru dodged all the blows, then raised up and in a single leap was standing on the floor. Completely naked: in the lamplight his sun-tanned skin had taken on a golden hue, and the strands of his unruly hair cast small shadows on his handsome face. Misa looked shyly at that body that had led her to ecstasy countless times that night and sighed...
Was it just attraction?
He walked briskly towards the bathroom door.
-So? you coming?
Misa carefully wrapped the sheet around her body and hesitantly stepped into the room. Hot water was already flowing from the large nozzles within the tub.
He was right, it was huge!
Hikaru held her hands linking their fingers together.
-I like it when you blush.
Misa blushed even more
-Ah you're really awful! D' you know that?
The tub was filling. The room was awash with steam. The mirrors on all the walls were blurred.
-I'll go in first...
she said menacingly, pointing a finger at Hikaru's nose.
- now face away! no peeking!
-aye Ma'am!
Misa was aware of the little time left , however she was reluctant to leave that steaming water full of foam. The silence was broken only by the sound of the water bubbling under their bodies causing them an extreme feeling of relax. Misa was resting limply on his chest, patting the white foam with her palms as he placed sweet kisses on her neck and shoulders.
-I can get used to it, you know
he said.
Misa smiled shyly.
She had never bathed with a guy before. In fact, she hadn't ever done... all the things she had done with him that night. At the memory, her stomach filled with butterflies.
-It was...nice
she murmured.
Hikaru grabbed her by the shoulders making her turn towards him. He stroked her forehead, freeing it from the wet locks that were sticking to her face.
-just nice?
Misa was so sweet and tiny in his arms. Her sad eyes sparkled under her wet lashes.
-Just nice..
she said teasingly.
-Then, next time I'll try better.
he answered, heading dangerously for her neck and leaving a trace of warm kisses.
Misa felt electric discharges down her spine. Her eyes closed in delight
-Oh Hikaru...
-what...
-we can't... we have to go. At 8 o'clock we are supposed to be in the council chamber for...
she sighed
-I know, for the damn report.
-I'm sorry...
Hikaru cupped her face in his hands: his eyes were as clear and bright as the summer sky.
-Misa I...
-Whatever comes...
-Misa no, please promise me that you won't stand up for me. That you won't do anything to ease my position, that you won't use your rank that...
Misa swallowed hard. But his gaze was firm and steady.
-Just promise.
she nodded... and didn't say a word.
Hikaru hugged her tightly resting a cheek on her damp hair. He was afraid, he couldn't deny it. But he was going to face his fate like a soldier, like a man. He would do anything to make her proud of him.
-I'll look for you as soon as this is over
he murmured against her forehead.
-yes, Hikaru yes...
When they walked out of the hotel, exiting through a small door at the back of the room, their hair was still damp, and shiny in the morning light. It was a new day in Macross city. The streets were already full of life.
-Well, I guess we have to go on separately
he said with fake cheerfulness.
Misa couldn't fake her displeasure, instead
-I...
She wanted to hold him and kiss him again and again. She didn't know it was so painful to say goodbye.
-Misa...
Hikaru took her hand, and interlaced their fingers. Misa felt the tears pushing their way out. She squeezed his hand tightly
-Its going to be... alright?
She said in a huff.
Hikaru smiled, for a moment he frowned and gazed at a distant point, on the horizon: his heart was restless.
-Yes Misa... yes.

Hi!
hello everyone! so here's the third chapter: it's a focus on the night that Misa and Hikaru spent together after returning to Macross.
In Sukehiro Tomita's book, there isn't so much about their night together (as Anita pointed out in one of the reviews! :))) ), he only says that Hikaru and Misa "nervously" made love just before Minmay's comeback.
As many of you know, in Japanese culture it is very common for a couple to meet in a Love Hotel because it's not usual to express any love and affection in public.
I really wanted to thank everyone for the lovely reviews, they do make my day 3
:)))
I hope you'll enjoy the chapter! See you soon
with all my heart
Mao
