Chapter 3:

A/n: in this story the preparation for the new born battle is going to be for some weeks. Not days. That really annoyed me in the book and movie. Like how are you going to train and then defeat an army within days? That just never made sense to me.

Jacob and quil finished getting all the information from the leeches before they headed over to Sam's. They stopped however when Edward called them. "Have you seen Bella?"

"What? no, I thought she came back in and where the heck is embry?" Jacob asked him

"He complained about the leech smell and went outside." Quil mentioned

"maybe she went home leech. Probably trying to get away from you." Jacob snarled

Edward stepped into Jacob's space to say something, but Alice came from around the corner.

"hey! Both of you chill out! Bella is at home. She just called me. She said she wasn't feeling well, and she would see us in a few days. Besides we all have to work togather to protect her. Edward, the wolves will be around Bella a lot more, so you need to relax"

"I better go check on her." Edward said.

"I think you should give her space Edward. She's had a long day. Her emotions were all over the place. Just give her some time to process everything" jasper said as he appeared next to Alice.

"fine." Edward said as he continued to give Jacob's retreating form a death glare.

Quil and Jacob had just entered Sam's house when his house phone rang. They had searched fruitlessly for embry. He was nowhere to be found. By now the whole pack and council had gathered in the backyard. News of vampires coming on their land traveled fast. A bonfire had been lit and the pack settled down.

It was Emily who answered the phone. "hello."

"Emily, its embry. Look I don't have time to explain but something came up, and I must take care of it. I'll be around tomorrow or the day after. Tell sam. Thanks." The line went dead

"hey! Is that embry?" Jacob asked rushing in.

"yeah but he hung up. He said he had something to handle? What happened I thought you guys were going to Bella's graduation party?" Emily asked

"we did but then embry bailed on us. I wonder what's wrong with him?" Jacob murmured.

"We'll figure that out later. We have a meeting, he will have to catch up later. Let's go." Sam ordered

Sam uley was not happy. First the Cullen's return causing the phase, then they leave but more boys continued to phase and to their shock embry call was one of them. Which meant his father or someone else had cheated? And to make matters worse, his father popped out of the blue a few months ago. It angered him. How could his mother just act like nothing happened and now he was on the council? which meant Sam had to see him almost everyday and it gave Sam's father have a power over him that he didn't deserve but of course none of the elders would say that. Joshua uley was an uley and there for the head of the three great families from which the wolves phased from. Black, Altera and Uley. it wouldn't make sense to have two family heads and not all three. Billy, old quil and Joshua had seniority and the most power. Of course, Billy black's word was law. He was the chief.

His thoughts were cut off when Billy black himself gave a loud whistle to gather everyone's attention.

"Cold ones are approaching our lands. Within 3 to 4 weeks. We as a tribe must prepare. From here on out the tribe will be on lockdown. While the older wolves are training. The younger ones will guard the reservation. But first Sam ,did the Cullen's tell you why the this so called army is even coming?"

"I didn't get a chance to ask. Jacob was the one who informed me." Sam replied as all eyes turned to Jacob who was spaced out himself.

"Jacob?" harry called out.

"huh? What? oh sorry. yeah ... the reason uh. Their after...Bella."

"Bella? As in Isabella swan?" harry asked

"The leech lover. Were protecting her? For the love of god! She's the one who screws leeches! Why should we defend her?" Paul yelled.

Jacob jumped up to defend Bella but was cut off by his father.

"Enough!" Billy roared. "our job is to protect this tribe and any human from the cold ones. These cold ones could get on our land if we don't help the Cullen's. They have extended an olive branch to us and we will take it. Now go home and get some sleep. You all will need it" The pack began to head home, most of them leaving their fathers to talk amongst themselves Except for Sam and Jacob.

"When will you meet the Cullen's Sam?" Billy asked

"in two days. We will meet in a clearing. One of their coven members has experience in this area." Sam explained

"I see. Well the elders and I will head to the meeting hall. We have much to discuss. And Jacob do not let Bella distract you. She has made her choice. Let sleeping dogs lie. I will only tolerate her for Charlie's sake and speaking of him I believe we need to come up with some kind of ruse to keep him from getting suspicious. Harry and I will come up with plans. Now you two get going." Billy firmly ordered. Sam went inside and Jacob went to check up on embry.

Bella was glad Charlie wasn't home. By the time She and embry arrived at his uncle's house, she was far away enough to where he couldn't question her. She made sure to call him though.

"Dad?" she called

"hey bells. What's up your party over already?"

"uh yeah about that, I kind of left early. Hey, I know this is unexpected, but I decided to take an impromptu vacation." She told him nervously.

"What do you mean an impromptu vacation? Bella if your up in Seattle I'm going to-"

"no dad listen." She said cutting him off. "I just need to get out for a while. The Cullen's and Jacob are suffocating and I'm not going anywhere near Seattle I promise. I'm just spending some much needed me time before college."

"Fine. your eighteen, it's not like I could stop you but does Edward Know?"

"no! "she said sharply "and I appreciated if you don't tell him. I mean if he comes over and ask, fine but don't just randomly tell him. I just... need my space and he wouldn't understand that especially now. I will tell him when I am ready. Alright dad, I'll be gone for a week or two. You should head over to Billy's or Harry's. I'm sure they would like to see you."

"you know I think I will do that. Be safe kiddo."

"I will dad. you too." She said softly.

Embry watched Bella as she hung up the phone and was deep in thought. He loved when she did that. Her nose would scrunch up and lips would thin out. It was cute.

"Relax Bella. Your dad will be fine. Now, come on my aunt and uncle are waiting on us. And it smells like she has dinner cooking. Mm. Fried chicken."

Embry's mom had moved to the Quileute reservation when she was pregnant with him, it had been a huge argument between her, his grandparents and his two aunts and uncles. In her family's eyes she had brought shame to the call name. How dare she whore around and especially with a man she didn't know the name of were his grandfather's words exactly. His mother's family quickly excommunicated her. no contact what so ever. Its what made embry's mom drink so much and then yell at him the morning after; being in the pack and having to leave all odd hours of the night didn't make it any better. The only people who hadn't cut her out was his uncle peanut. Ok, his real name was ollie, but everyone called him peanut. His uncle peanut was the only one who would acknowledge embry's existence. There were four of them all together; Ronny, Debbie, tiffany and ollie. His uncle peanut aka ollie was the youngest and more understanding. He was also the one who inherited sky blue eyes. It was a gene that skipped generations in the call family and other than ollie, embry was the only one to get it. It threw a lot of people off to see a native American with sky blue eyes. Blue eyes were rare enough but to see someone like embry with them was shocking.

"Hey! Its thing one and thing two!" his uncle peanut shouted from the door way. That was his nickname for he and Bella. Two peas in a pod. He was glad his aunt and uncle liked her. it made things easier. They hadn't meant to fall in love, it just happened. It was when they first met. There eyes connected and It was an instant connection. He was the yin to her yang but then he phased, and he lost her. The shock of his phase was too much, and his mind shut down. The fact that his mother had lied about who his father was and then finding out that it could be one of the men he had known his whole life. It explained so much. Why people on the reservation looked at him funny. It was already bad enough that his eyes were blue and now add in he was a what some people called a bastard. A child who's born to parents not married. He could hear the murmurs of those around him and It really made things awkward between himself, quil and Jacob. Knowing that one of his best friend's dad could be his father. It made things tense between the trio. And they could see inside his head, they knew every thought. Every insecurity. The only thing he had on lock down was Bella. No one went to that part of his mind. That was his sanctuary.

It had all happened by accident. He and Bella had bumped into each other at a small museum in port angles. Jacob and quill didn't understand art and preferred cars which is why he had been alone that day. The odd ball out. He had found her looking at a famous painting. Nighthawks by Edward hopper. The painting where people are sitting at a diner.

Without looking up she had asked him "I wonder what they were thinking. Do you think they were contemplating life?"

That had been the moment where he knew he had wanted her and only her. Screw imprinting. For months that had been their meeting spot; In front of Edward hoppers painting.

"Come on in here you two. Amelia's just finishing up the mash potatoes and then we can eat. Take a load off." His uncle said breaking him out of his thoughts.

Embry Entered in and took a deep breath. No, he couldn't relax but he could enjoy the moment.
