The Pickles family simply stared at the TV screen. Dil was still in shock as he'd just woken up and wasn't aware of the situation until he saw it on the news.
"Phil... how... how did...? Dil asked with blatant confusion.
"I've told the story a million times and I'm getting sick of it," Phil replied sternly.
"He dropped her off in her friend's neighborhood after their date, and she got kidnapped not long after he drove off," Chuckie explained. His mood was rather strange ever since Phil saw him. He was a little pissed and sad his step-sister was missing, but at the same time he seemed understanding of him. He didn't completely blame Phil quite like his parents and Lil were.
"Phil, dude... you can't be serious. You just let her go? That's your girl man..." Dil said. He seemed more disappointed in DeVille than mad like the others. But he was super worried by the look on his eyes like the rest of them.
"Dil, you don't understand... she insisted that I drop her off instead of taking her to Dakota's. So I did... and that's the last time I saw her," Phil explained to Dil
"What are you boys doing just sitting around here!? You need to be searching, immediately!" Didi told them, and the boys knew she was right.
"Mom's right. We need to get everyone there right now. Call Angelica, Brianna, Lil and Susie," Tommy said. So they rounded everybody up, but Phil tried not to be around his twin sister so much, as she might've taken another swing if he did. Phil drove them straight to where he'd dropped Kimi off, but it was still cut off by tape and officers still standing and guarding the area. When they'd pulled up to the neighborhood, one of the cops walked up to his car.
"Easy there, you need to back off. I don't know if you've seen the news this morning or not, but-"
Phil cut him off. "I am aware. I actually happen to be the man who saw her last."
"So you're DeVille? Follow me, please."
He parked his car and stared walking with the cop towards the camera crew while the rest of the gang waited in the car. He simply just told them the story he'd said a billion times. They thanked him for doing what he did, but then told the group to leave.
When he got back to the car, they wondered what they should do next.
"So... where exactly do we start?" Angelica asked.
"We should probably split up," Susie suggested.
"That'd be effective... but if she was kidnapped, we won't exactly be looking for her, would we? There's no way for us to know what we're looking for, " Brianna said.
Just then Kimi recieved a text from Dakota.
"Dakota wants us to come meet her at the mall food court, by the Chinese place," she said.
They headed towards the mall, straight to the food court and found Dakota where she said she'd be.
"Okay, listen... I'm gonna tell you something you can't tell anyone else because the info is... kinda classified. This morning after I woke up, I actually went for a run. I wasn't gonna run today because Lilwas ging to be there, but given the circumstances, I just went out. I got to the stop sign and found a note on the ground which read '$20,000, ten days, one chance'. Right around then is when the police showed up, explained everything to me, and took the note as classified material for the investigation...and it also had this phone number written on it," Dakota explained as she showed them a phone number.
"What does it mean?" Chuckie asked.
"It's clearly a note from Kimi's kidnapper... he wants 20 grand in 10 days or we don't get her back."
"Where the hell are we supposed to get 20K?" Dil asked.
"We'd better start a crowd-fund," Susie said. "It'll be hard to raise $20K in that short amount of time."
"Before we start anything I better call this number," Phil told them, and he got up, walked to the bathroom and dialed the number. Chuck followed him, but everyone else stayed at the table. The ring back was about ten times before he heard some shuffling.
"Hello? Hello?" he asked... that's when he heard a voice that was obviously disoriented with some kind of voice changer because it was deep and sounded unhuman. Whoever it was didn't want their identity exposed.
"Yes?"
"My name is Phil DeVille?"
"And?"
"You have my girl?"
"Describe her to me."
"Skinny, violet hair, pigtails, about 5'7"..."
"Yep... this is her... Do you have the money?"
"No, I just needed to know more."
"What more do you need to know? $20,000, 10 days and 1 chance."
"But where am I supposed to take the money when I have it?"
"I'll send you the location."
Phil was trying to stay calm , but was starting to shake with anger and his voice was breaking. "What happens after 10 days?" he asked.
"I ship her off. She's fitting a lot of demands we have overseas, and the boys are very eager."
"Are you gonna sell my girl... to sex trafficking?"
"They want her for $15,000 and won't go any higher, which is really low for what they're looking for. Or, I can just get her back to you for a higher amount. But business is business, so if you don't have the cash in ten days, then I'll have to settle for their price. It's up to you.
"What... what are you doing with her?"
"Nothing; I've given her food, water, a bed and a shower. She's not being harmed in any way, so if I do end up shipping her, I don't need her showing up with brusies.
"What're gonna do when the police show up? What're you gonna do, you fucking bastard?"
"Then she dies. So hope for her sake that the cops don't take action. And if you tell them about our little phone call... I ship her immediately.
"How will you know if I call the police?"
"We have people everywhere. Wanna take the chance?"
"You're bullshitting me."
"Whatever you say... see you in ten days."
At that the line went dead and Phil returned to the rest of the group.
"Well?" Tommy asked.
"We can't get the cops involved or he'll ship Kimi off immediately overseas to sex-trafficking." They all gasp in shock.
"I do know one person who's not a cop," Angelica said.
"You can't get Mike involved. He'll get himself killed in action," Phil objected.
"What other choice do you have, Phillip?" Lil asked
"Guess we'll go with Mike then."
