Chapter Three: Bruce Wayne
Just a half hour ago, Bruce had been listening to his finance manager Lucius Fox delivering the results of his latest deal with Stagg Enterprises to the board of directors.
Lucius had only gotten a few minutes into it before a notification buzzed on Bruce's phone. He pulled it out. The news notification read;
"Captain Cold comes out of retirement to terrorize innocent people."
Bruce noted the location, it was a couple minutes' walk from his building. Leonard Snart, (Wayne knew him personally) had apparently been a good ally of (Barry Allan) the Flash for years. This didn't make sense.
Nonetheless, after sparing a second to frown in disbelief at his phone, he had excused himself politely from the meeting with an ounce of guilt in his chest. Guilt because:
Lucius was presenting the information to him.
According to Lucius this would it make the 98th time he'd left a board meeting without returning this year.
But if lives were at stake, the hurt feelings of a few wealthy colleagues could be pushed to the side. Minutes later, after selecting a suit from a safe in his personal office, Bruce left the building as Batman.
Two police cars and a yellow SUV were encased in ice by the curb of a luxury footwear store. A small group of people had gathered around trying to break the ice. While a couple of bystanders also stood a little further away recording with their cellphone cameras. Their attention shifted to him as he stood in front of one of the vehicles.
"Is that Batman?"
"I've never seen that dude during the day."
"The suit he's got on totally matches my son's Halloween costume I got him last year!"
"Ridiculous!"
Attached to Batman's suit arms were 3 slightly curved triangular spikes. He raised both arms high facing the spikes downward and brought them crashing down onto the ice with a resounding crack.
Within moments, the first man from the police car had been rescued.
A small crowd of young adults were beginning to form around him gaping in admiration from a respectable distance.
"Thank you." The officer nodded appreciatively, shivering.
"You alright?" A petit East Asian woman stepped out of the crowd to place her sweater she'd been holding around his shoulders.
"Leonard you moron," Batman muttered. He began hitting the ice off the second car.
"Batman, look out!"
"Watch out!"
Batman turned around to find Captain Cold only a few meters away with his ice gun levelled at his chest. He was wearing a navy blue parka that reached his knees and matching blue snow pants. His eyes were shielded by reflective sunglasses and his brown bangs nearly touched the top of them.
"Make a single move and I'll pull the trigger," Captain Cold coldly threatened. "Freeze or I'll freeze you."
"Leonard you need to tell me what you are doing right now! We—the whole Justice League had thought you'd turned a new leaf, years ago. We trusted you. Evidently that was a mistake."
Captain Cold didn't reply but instead with his other hand reached into his jacket pocket and retrieved what appeared to be a small black bracelet bead.
An EMP bead.
Batman's heart sank. Captain Cold hurled it straight at Batman's chest.
The electromagnetic pulse shut down the suit killing every bit of tech. And before the backup power source could kick in to reactivate his suit, a tranquilizer dart hit him in the side of his neck. Then everything went dark.
