Resident evil: Hellish Destiny
Chapter 3:
Zero beginnings
A shaky, nervous sigh escaped Yokai's lips as anxiety welled up inside his chest despite the amount of people that were here. Resident Evil would always be something he would treasure, but that didn't mean he wasn't frightened. Despite being with his brothers he was still shaky.
The group made a small break in the old dining room. Dust covered the plates, cups and other utensils as it hadn't been touched in ages. William and Rebecca had to deal with dispatching the undead that occupied it.
McCoy sat Yokai down with the added aid from Cisco. He placed his hand on the long-haired teen's shoulder. "How are you feeling?" McCoy asked with worry.
Yokai puffed slightly than shook his head "Like...absolute shit, though the pain is gradually leaving. What about your arm?" Yokai questions back.
McCoy grunted and flexed. His arm still hurt because of the dislocation. It seemed some of his muscles had torn, but he could handle it. "Hurts but shouldn't be too much of a problem."
Cisco spoke. "Like what Miss Chambers said, don't overdo yourselves." McCoy grunted slightly as Cisco dug his thumb in his shoulder, trying to ease away the pain.
Both Rebecca and Billy gave the all clear which prompted the boys to get moving. Along the way they picked up items: extra herbs, bullets, and a couple of keys. Currently while walking down one of the dark hallways they found a small statue of a gargoyle, though it was missing a head. Billy had even found a shotgun with ammo. However, there was a very slight problem. In every Resident evil game there would always be a puzzle game, certain items had to be found in certain ways like finding a key or moving a rock in a certain place.
In the game it was fun and it was a challenge to the mind , but in real life...in the words of McCoy: it was a pain in the ass. It required a lot of annoying backtracking just to find them.
The group came back into the room where Marcus' painting was. Cisco sat the tiny broken statue on a scale that was held by a sculpture of a woman, which actually looked way older than it did in the game."And there we go." Cisco exclaimed.
"You know, you still haven't explained why we need this, right?" the ex-soldier commented with some dryness and a tinge of annoyance.
The Lin sibling sighed and Cisco started to explain. "Because, Mr. Coen, Dr. James Marcus had the mindless idea of adding these time wasting puzzles just to get from point A, to point B."
"And how do you know this?" he questioned further.
Another sigh escaped his lips. 'I didn't think Mr Coen was a bit impatient.' Cisco resumed his explanations . "Already told you: after we get out of here we will explain. The reason we aren't explaining is because–"
"We are being watched by James Marcus himself," Billy finished off with a slight bit of sarcasm.
"Right I get that. But that doesn't make it any less annoying that you know all of this and we don't." He pointed to Rebecca who was down stairs checking on Yokai's wound, then back to himself.
"Yes, I understand that, but please Mr Coen please be patient." The short haired teen pleaded slightly.
It was Williams' turns to sigh. "Alright fine I'll wait, but I need to ask. What's with the formalities? Why are you calling me Mr Coen."
Cisco stood for a moment then spoke. "Well I'm a bit more disciplined compared to my brothers. I more or less promised myself as a kid to be respectful and more formal to new people I meet."
"Oh, ok that's cool, but what about the British tone?"
"Oh that? Funny story, I watched a lot of James Bond movies and I've sorta developed this persona where I'd act like Mr Bond when I'm excited about something. It actually helped me be a bit more organized, though I didn't get Mr Bond's talent to be a womanizer," he said with humor before resuming. "And how I got this British accent? I'm stuck with it and I enjoy it. Makes me unique."
The man on death row was smirking. Finding Cisco's story to be hilarious. "Well I'm not gonna lie and say it doesn't," he snorted slightly but went back to being serious. "Alright so what next?"
"Ah yes! I was just about to get to that. Luckily I know where this key is and it's not far, so it's fine with the two of us," Cisco explained.
"Alright gotcha." Billy went to the railing and shouted. "Hey Rebecca!" She turned her head towards the ex soldier. "We're gonna separate for the moment Cisco says he knows where the key is."
"Are you sure that's a good idea?" she said with worry. Cisco, however, was on the case to repeal those worries.
"Don't worry Mrs. Chambers, nothing bad will happen since we won't be going far."
"Okay then, just be careful and don't do anything rash!"
Cisco nodded while making his way to his destination with Billy following him. Cisco hummed and rubbed his chin trying to figure out which door he needed to go through. "Let's see here…ah here we go." he moved to the third door down, but before he opened it he looked back at Billy. "Alright so the crows are gonna be a bit of a problem," Cisco whispered
"Crows? I thought you said there wouldn't be any problems?" he shouted slightly which caused Cisco to shush him.
"I'm sorry but I've seen how scary Mrs Chambers acts when we do something stupid, despite only meeting her not long ago. She acts like our mother and that is scarier than the situation we put ourselves in." He glanced briefly at Rebecca hoping she didn't hear them, but that didn't mean she wasn't scared.
Billy had to bite his lip to not burst into laughter. He ended up snorting.. His voice was laced with amusement. "You three are scared of her? That's so damn funny, man." He grinned to Cisco's displeasure.
"Oh shut it sir. You didn't see your life flash before your eyes. She gave us that death glare…" He shivered which earned a chuckle from Billy.
"Alright, alright I believe ya," Billy said with a chuckle. He opened the door and allowed Cisco to go in first, he went second and closed it behind him.
Meanwhile Rebecca was busy checking on Yokai, just in case she might have missed some infected areas that weren't sanitized by the alcohol. So far there was nothing and the herb was doing a good job closing the gash. "Alright looks like you're ok. Doesn't seem like there's any infection."
Both McCoy and Yokai are delighted knowing that he wasn't infected, the long haired teen was surprised however, his wound was almost a scab. "I'm kinda surprised honestly, I mean how do I have scabs already?"
The medic of Bravo team was about to speak until McCoy chimed in. "Maybe you got super powers like spider-man, only it was a scorpion."
Yokai looked thoughtful then grinned. "Heh, that'd be cool. Makes me more awesome than you," he commented. McCoy scoffed.
"Bitch please. You'll never be awesome 'til you get these gains!" He started flexing his bicep on his left arm showing how well developed and large it is.
Rebecca couldn't help but roll her eyes and giggle. 'These boys, I don't know how they stay like this despite our situation.' Though if she was honest to herself, she couldn't help but stare at the muscles that flexed on his arm. It was...attractive. She shook her head. 'Ok, no time to think of that, focus Rebecca!'
She grunted slightly. "Well the real reason is because the herbs are helping with repairing the damaged tissue," she explained. "I think? I'm not quite sure. I haven't had the time to test that theory."
Yokai shrugged. "Either way that's pretty cool. It is helping with taking away the pain." He rubbed it a bit but reeled back from sting. "Well, somewhat."
Rebecca gave him a look that said 'Did you have to touch it?', to which he shrugged and gave a nervous smile. She shook her head humorously.
'Since were here, might as well get to know these guys," she thought. "So I got to ask; where do you three live? Cause I'm fairly certain you guys aren't from Raccoon city," she asked curiously..
McCoy answered first. "Oh, we're from California."
"We live in L.A.," Yokai added.
Rebecca looked really surprised and a bit shocked. "W-what?! That's like four states away! How the heck did you all manage to get here?!" she nearly shouted.
McCoy and Yokai could only chuckle from her reaction. "We will tell you later, br Patient." They both say to her as if she were just a young girl.
She crossed her arms and pouted. Like Billy Coen she was also a bit impatient. It was yet another thing they knew and she didn't.
McCoy found himself biting his lip trying not to say 'Awwww.', his cheeks turning pink. Rebecca pouting was just so adorable that his heart was melting at the sight, it was like seeing an angry bunny not getting what they want.
'Calm down, calm down!' he shouted to himself mentally resisting the urge to hug her.
Meanwhile, Cisco was having a bit of a hard time looking for the key while Willam was by the window, shotgun in hand. "Having trouble finding it?"
"Afraid so," Cisco apologized. 'Bollocks! Where's the bloody thing at?!' he shouted at himself mentally while he kept searching.
The room had standard furniture, an old coach, a torn rug, a table with a lamp which was still on, somehow not dying from power loss; and finally a mirror on top of a cabinet. Cisco knew that the key was under it, yet he could not find it for some reason which was frustrating to the teen. Maybe it was because it was much darker than he anticipated, maybe the key was simply not there. He refused to believe that. Real life or not, the key was here.
Billy could watch only in sympathy as teen kept searching. Something caught in the corner of his eye. Some sort of dark shadow wisped by his sight. He turned instinctively, his military training kicked in, and aimed the shotgun at the window. The storm outside was but a drizzle and the moon shone brightly. Suddenly more shadows went by along with the sounds of flapping wings, then he heard it:
Squawks.
'Looks like the kid is right.' He turned towards Cisco who was still briskly searching. "Hey kid, might want to hurry up," The man ordered slightly.
Cisco gave a thumbs up and hastened his search. Billy found himself tensing up and his spine chilling. There was another squawk but however it was in a deeper pitch. At first he may have thought that it was a raven. 'No, ravens don't make sounds that deep, then what the hell–?" He slowly turned around, trying to spot where the sound originated from.
He felt panic set in when he saw it. Eyes widening, heart beginning to pound, adrenaline starting to kick in. Outside was a large white mass of feathers and murderous claws, its eyes milky, bony white just like the undead. It had a cracked, curved beak –that didn't belong to a crow– that was stained in dry blood from its unfortunate victims. The crown of feathers was on full display on its head, then Billy realized what this thing was.
An African crown eagle.
"What the fuck…" Billy whispered with straining, trying not to shout. The creature was large, probably 5 feet in height, but the thing that caught his eyes was its talons. They were unnaturally disproportionate from its body. One: they were twice as long as its body and its claws were literally steak knives. Crimson stained knives that came from some unfortunate victim that had their flesh stabbed by those claws. Then a worse realization: it wasn't alone. There must have been at least dozens of crows all around the eagle, as if they were bodyguards or black knights meant to protect their king. Their eyes were also dead white, yet full of ravenous hunger.
Then came a final realization: All was silent. Billy could only hear his pounding heart. That bird, why did he feel so afraid? He's seen a zombie on the train with its intestines hanging out, yet this bird made him chill to the bone, with his blood becoming icy cold. What was this thing?
Cisco, not realizing this, had finally found the key: A stick with a lion's head. The key, he grabbed it and yanked it out. "I found it!" he shouted, feeling grateful at his accomplishment.
That was a fatal mistake.
Screeching was made, so loud and horrible that it was unbelievable that they could even come from a crow. Many flapping wings took to the air literally blocking the moon like a plague. Their bodies smacking against the windows, cracking the already weakened glass.
"Run, kid!"
Cisco felt himself panicking as he saw the glass crack, so he bolted to the door along with Billy. When the windows shattered, a flood of black screeching crows rushed in. The soldier and the teen forced the door open just in time to run out. When Cisco tried to close the door one of the crows got in the way and got caught in the thin opening.
Cisco yelped as another crow got him by the middle finger, he nearly let go of the door Billy however was able shoot the bird, completely annihilating it in an explosion of black feathers. With the door finally shut, they could hear the angry, ravenous birds scratching and pecking at the wooden barrier.
Cisco grabbed his finger and winced. The crow had chomped hard on his middle finger. Blood was rushing out because of his fast heartbeat, it began dripping to the floor. "Oh bollocks…" he cursed and hissed.
Rebecca along with McCoy and Yokai, though the latter was pages behind came up because of the sound. The young woman went to him quickly.
"W-what happened?!" she shouted while taking out some bandages and began applying it on his finger.
"Crows." Billy dryly said. "A shit load of them too." he huffed slightly, then looked at Cisco. "You alright, kid? No scratches?"
He shook his head. "No just this damn bite. God it hurts."
McCoy was at the door, he could hear them scratching at it just to get through. "How many did you see?"
"Hundreds, there had to be hundreds of those fuckers and that thing outside," Billy said with an angry sneer.
Rebecca finished wrapping Cisco's finger and looked up at Willam. "What thing?"
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you, but fuck it. It was a damn African crown eagle," he started, to Rebecca's surprise an shock. "But it wasn't normal. Its feet were bigger than its body. I think it's controlling those crows somehow."
The boys all looked at eachother, this was all new to them and… Familiar to familiar. "Either way, did you get what you wanted, kid?"
Cisco nodded and showed the item.
"That's the key?"
"Yes," Cisco quickly answered. "For a very special elevator." Cisco vividly explained.
The teen stood up, fixing his slightly worn out tie then led the way. McCoy caught up to him along with Yokai –though he winced because of his injury– with worried looks from them. "Cisco, are you sure you're good?"
"Positive."
Yokai "You don't think you'll–?"
"Turn into a zombie? No, a crow doesn't really have saliva and even then I'd have to be torn apart by them to become one of them, it's a theory at most," he stated, though a tinge of fear was in his tone. He wholeheartedly agreed that he shouldn't be able turn into an undead just from a crow bite.
Though, even he felt a bit of doubt.
As they walked for a good amount of time the group made it to their destination, shelves surrounded the area that either held books or plex. The one thing that stood out was an ancient elevator necessitating a crank to be turned to work.
"Is that the special elevator?" Billy asked.
Cisco replied. "Yes, and as I said it requires this key." He pulled out the stick with the lion's head. Going up to the crank, he had to carefully look at how he would need to put it in. It was a bit too dark to see but he inserted it after a few tries. With a twist, muffled sounds of mechanical locks shifted and unlocked. The crank even moved slightly. It was now usable.
"There we are."
Rebecca was about to question but Billy beat her to the punch. "Alright so now what?" The ex-soldier asked.
Cisco looked at him almost blankly. He leaned his head to his brothers. "Cover your ears you two."
McCoy and Yokai looked at each other confused. Amusement soon replaced it as they covered their ears, now it was Rebecca and Williams turn to be confused. 'Why are they covering their ears?' They thought.
"This is where we separate again," Cisco said as he quickly covered his ears.
Billy now knew why the boys did that.
"WHAT?!" her voice can almost be compared to cannon fire. William grunted, rubbing his ears from the loud yell that came from Rebecca.
The boys found themselves still wincing, even with their ears plugged she was too friggin loud.
Billy grunted in displeasure. "Jesus christ Rebecca, can you be louder? I don't think the Zombies heard you," he grunted.
The medic found herself blushing with slight embarrassment, but that wouldn't stop her telling them how she felt about it. "No no no! We are not separating."
"Look, Miss Chambers–" Cisco was cut off by her.
"No, Cisco, I will not separate you three. That's final," she said with a stern glare which made the boys back down.
Cisco was able to build his courage again. "I-I was just gonna say that one of you should go up..." he stuttered out a bit, afraid of this woman's wrath if he chose the wrong words.
The medics frightening angered feature where now calmed down and was replaced with confusion. "Wait, one of us?" she asked.
Which earned a 'Mhm' from the boys. "Though one of us would have to stay behind and turn the crank," the well dressed teen stated. "As soon as one of us goes up there, however, we will face a new monster: it's called a plague crawler which are mutant bug like creatures. They shouldn't be too much of a problem but they are ambush predators, which means they hide on the ceilings," the smarter Lin brother finished with his prediction. His tone was a bit flat since he knew what was going to happen.
Rebecca and Billy didn't say anything at first, in their minds they still couldn't believe that these three knew what was gonna happen, but what can they do? They are their only source of information and they did promise that they would tell them everything.
Billy broke the silence with a neutral tone. "Alright then I guess I'll go, but what am I looking for exactly?"
"The other statue, like the gargoyle statue. Looks broken, it's white, and has Avian wings. It shouldn't be too hard." Billy nodded, his determination plastered on his face.
Stepping on the platform, he turned to the four with a stern look. "Alright I'll be back, you guys stay safe and like Rebecca said, don't do anything stupid, even if you know everything," the ex-soldier stated sternly as if he were a sergeant or colonel.
The boys gave the man on death row a thumbs up. "No promises. McCoy if you would," the smarter of the Lin brothers gestured his hand towards the crank to which his larger brother nodded.
Placing his hand on the cool steel McCoy began to push, he grunted as there was resistance. Veins bulged slightly from his arms as he added more force into spinning the mechanism, then there was a sound of screeching metal before the elevator finally started to move. Billy stumbled slightly as the elevator began rising towards the second level. Pumping his shotgun he was now ready to begin his search.
The creature known as James Marcus watched with a computed sneer. Through the perspective of one of his children he watched the soldier go to the second level of the building in search of the statue.
That man was a fool. He had no idea what he was getting himself into. James was confident that the plague crawlers would deal with the soldier. Changing to a different perspective, his many eyes were on the boys as they left the library along with that woman. He sneered harder just looking at them.
He didn't know how they knew his puzzles, but he would get them to speak by force. 'They only need to get closer, then I'll smite–!' Suddenly his mind began to hear the mental screaming of pain and death. His mind felt like it was on fire which made him clutch his head tightly from the intensity. He changed his view to the soldier.
To the creatures' shock all of the plague crawlers were dead, their exoskeletons riddled with holes, and some had chunks missing which exposed their oily brown flesh. He had just witnessed a massacre and was horrified as the man on death row put a bullet in the last of the mutated insects. It's head was just blown clean off.
More death, his beautiful creations killed. Anger filling every resurrected cell in his body, the leeches began making loud clicking noises all around him with their mouths under their amorphous bodies. This however proved fatal on his end because as soon as they made that noise, it attracted Billy's attention.
From his points of view he was confused, pushing it aside he aimed the shotgun at the mass of leeches that clung to the side of the ceiling and shot at them. Many times, until they most of them were eradicated.
James Marcus screamed loudly and clutched his head. The pain was unbearable. The connection he had with them was an unforeseen disadvantage. The pain was so intense that he dug his fingers in his head and tore a chunk of his skull off then threw it to the floor with a wet splat. Then, finally, the pain ceased.
Panting, he felt angrier than ever before. His children were dying by those murderers and he hated them with extreme spite. He needed to plan immediately.
The missing chunk of his skull that was thrown to the floor twitched, it morphed and changed color from to oily dark brown. It became a leech which crawled back up to literally reconnect to its master, cells from the leech connected with the rest of its master, feeling in the gap like putrid water.
Now that his skull was healed up, he can now focus on the problem that was presented to him. These people were a threat and would jeopardize his plan to burn the world, he needed to separate them but unfortunately they weren't close to his domain.
At least...not yet.
With a hum a plan started to formulate in his mind, those boys, they are the cause and they needed to be separated. It was quite obvious that they held no experience, they weren't soldiers. They were just young men who were thrown into this, a dark smirk slowly spread inhumanly across his face as he began to monologue loudly. "Yes that could work! But… I'll need them closer, that way I can properly dispose of their nuisance, if only I can get project Zeus back under my control...Oh well, I have my other projects here along with that gigantic arachnid." He frowned with annoyance. "If only I can find it, still surprised, something that massive ,molted and has suddenly disappeared…'' he rubbed his chin, still trying to figure out how such a large creature had just suddenly gone.
It didn't matter, he had other horrific creatures in this building, he'll just release them and let them gore those humans: alive.
With a wave of his hand the leeches began to open some of the contained experiments, not realizing that he opened a container with a creature that was otherwise useless to him. Not like it was gonna help him anyways:
"So what did you want to talk about?" Yokai asked.
Cisco leaned against the wall, a look of seriousness plastered on his face again, something was on his mind and his brothers wanted to know why. Rebecca wasn't with them at the moment, Cisco told her that he needed to speak with his brothers privately about something. To which she reluctantly agreed and went to a different part of the room to wait, if impatiently.
"So you gonna spill or what?" McCoy grunted out, while crossing his arms. He watched as Cisco took in a deep breath.
"I think I know what Billy is implying earlier when we were attacked by those birds. When he mentioned he saw a crown eagle outside with massive talons: instantly I knew what it is even though I find it impossible th-that fiendish creature is even here."
"Ok so what is it?"
Cisco continued fear was evident in his tone because of the vertigo from those birds. "We are dealing with a kid-napper." It took some time for his two siblings to realize what he was saying, as soon as they did shock became present.
Yokai shook his head in disbelief. "No freaking way, isn't that one of the canceled creature concepts? The ones that were rejected by Capcom?"
"Yes," he quickly replied.
"Shit," McCoy cursed, realizing their problem. "So, you're telling me since that bird is here, that means–" Cisco continued on.
"We also might be facing the canceled monster, not just the already standard horrors." Cisco clenched his fists a bit, emotion brewing in him. "And we already saw how many there are, and we aren't even in Raccoon City…" his voice held fear and was beginning to get shaky.
Yokai felt his heart pounding against his chest. He grabbed his torso and held it tightly as if his heart was giving out. His knees became weak and shaky, and at this moment he was about to fall. McCoy came to him before he could do that. "Hey, hey calm down, calm down. Breathe," McCoy soothed softly.
Yokai was starting to hyperventilate. He did all he could just to relax his nerves. "B-but h-h-how could I?!" he shouted to his brother. "You-you heard what he said. M-m-more of these things…"
"Listen, I'm scared too but we have to push through, ok? So what if there's more of these damn things? We will survive, I know it, and we will get hurt. I won't deny that but we will live. Ok?"
"How can you be sure? I barely survived Stinger…" Yokai trailed as he touched his wrapped wound. The pain was like getting stabbed and nearly being crushed with knives.
"Barely yes, but survived," McCoy continued with his encouragement. "Look, if we survived fucking highschool then we can survive this shit with flying colors, okay?"
Yokai despite being frightened nodded, his brother's encouraging words had gotten through to him enough for him to calm down. "Y-yeah," he stuttered. "Yeah okay, okay we'll survive," he repeated.
McCoy smiles and pats his brother on the shoulder. "You know I just want to comment, you getting all freaked out like that was random. Like those bad movies where the chick screams for no reason."
Yokai hit him in the shoulder which made him laugh. "Oh shut up, you know how I am." The lanky brother pouted slightly.
Cisco chuckled. The emotion he felt was dimmed, though he didn't like how these creatures now existed. They always found a way to bring back their happiness, like a light through the horrific darkness they were about to face. 'How do we do it, honestly?' he asked himself for the first time in a while.
After their conversation and pep talk, the three brothers went back to the almond-haired medic. Rebecca did another check up on Yokai, the herbs having actually healed up the wound. Although it was still scab, the stickiness had gone away. A good sign.
"So, how long do you think until Billy is coming back?" Yokai asked.
Cisco hummed while he stared up at the ceiling with his tongue out. Doing some mental calculations on the time the man on death row was coming back.
McCoy snorted and bit his lip, 'That face though…' he snorted some more and leaned next to Yokai who was making a face while trying to contain his laughter. "Yokai," he whispered. "When you nut but she keeps sucking." Yokai snorted loudly as he thought it was hilarious. To them, the joke was better because of Cisco's derp face.
"What are you guys laughing about?" Rebecca asked, though received no answer. Was it because of Cisco's face, she wondered.
With a humm Cisco stopped doing his thinking face and stared at them with a deadpan look."He should be here, about now," he stated, still deadpanned.
The door above them opened revealing William holding new weapons. In one hand he held a grenade launcher with four grenades still inside.. "Oh back here again?" he muttered.
"Hey Billy!" McCoy called out.
Billy locked down, spotting the rest of the group. "Sup kids, I'm back. I haven't found the statue yet, sorry kid," he apologized to Cisco.
"Ahh no worries, but this does help us, come on guys, let's get going,"
As they were about to leave, McCoy's eyes widened and a smile appeared, an idea had just popped "Wait, wait I have an idea!" he shouted. The attention was brought into him.
He motioned to his brothers to get closer and began whispering something incoherently. Whatever the idea was, his other brother's eyes popped with surprise, and now they were adorning his smile.
"That's genius!" Cisco exclaimed. "Honestly, why haven't I thought of that?"
"Are we going to do it?" Yokai questioned with a giddy tone.
The well dressed teen smirked. "In the words of McCoy: Fuck yeah! Onward!" Cisco pointed in front of him, then the three brothers started running up stairs which caught the two main characters from zero by surprise. Rebecca was about to shout but was useless once they entered the room Billy came through.
Their thoughts were the same. 'Why are they suddenly excited?'
The Lin brothers came into a hall with stone tiling, it went upstairs which meant there was an extra level above. They knew what was up there but they weren't gonna go yet, the brothers had to do something first.
Going into a room closest to them, they began to search.
The room itself had a display of statues which weren't covered in dust, meaning they had a coating to keep it off. Some dusted furniture and a painting of a man with uncolored spots still. Its artist had yet to finish it.
They had to spread out a little to look for what they needed. McCoy came to a shelf above a fireplace, and low and behold there was the statue missing its arms and head.
Feeling happy McCoy grabbed it and shouted to his brothers. "Yo I found the statue!"
"That's great, that's one item off our list. Yokai did you find it?" Cisco asked.
"No, but I did find a shotgun baby," he spoke while pumping it. He grinned.
While this was going on Billy and Rebecca watched as the boys were all over the place looking for some type of item, they found a shot but apparently that was it either.
Rebecca awkwardly rubbed her head. She didn't know why she felt awkward around Billy. Maybe it was because he was a man put on death row for his crimes and maybe that was why? That probably was part of the reason but then another thought came: if this man was so dangerous why hadn't he decided to kill them all and just escape into the woods? Why stay here with them most of the time?
She needed an answer, so she spoke to him in a slightly nervous tone. "I uhh… have to ask." Billy would turn to her with a brow raised, though honestly It kinda looked like he was glaring in her opinion. "Sorry it's just… I'm curious. you're a man put on death row and I need to know the truth. Did you kill 23 people? Not that I'm judging, and I doubt they will," she motioned to the brothers.
He sighed, clearly exhausted. He knew this question was going to be brought up eventually. It was best he answered. "You want to know how I got in that position? Well it was like this." He cleared his throat a bit knowing this was gonna be a long one. "I'm a second lieutenant in the Marine Corp, our unit was sent to Africa to deal with the Civil war and our mission was to deal with Guerrilla forces deep in the jungle…" He stopped for a moment and stared out into space.
Rebecca knew what was happening to the man. Right now he was having a flashback of the events. He was suffering from PTSD.
In Billie's metalscape everything was black and white and vivid. He remembered walking down the forest with his comrades. He could hear and see his comrades die one by one by booby traps and other contraptions. He flinched and nearly reacted with a backhand. Everything came back to normal and he saw Rebecca staring at him with concern.
"We can continue this later," she said to him with concern.
He shook his head. "No...no it's best you hear it…" His tone was low now and he sounded older than he should be. He continued. "But this...hideout was far away from the entire point." He could swear he could hear the gunshots, the bullets piercing the skulls of those good men, men that probably had family. He could only imagine the amount of sadness and devastation knowing your son or husband was killed in action. "Some...die from the heat, others are killed by the enemy…"
Again the flashbacks return, like a movie, only this movie was all too real and horrid. He watched through his view a comrade named Mac suddenly fell to ground and died instantly, he swore he could still smell the rancid cooked flesh of his comrade cooking under the unforgiving sun. He continued despite the flashback still going. "In the end...there were only four of us…" The foliage and bushes were pushed back to see a small village, houses probably made of sticks and hard mud, with wooden stake walls meant for protection.
This village probably hasn't seen the rest of civilization for who knows how many years, it was too bad that whatever clan they were, were now extinct.
Everything returned to normal in his eyes again. "Only, there was no guerrilla hideout…" The low old tone he once had was now replaced with cold anger, anger at his superiors incompetence, anger at the people who slaughtered those innocent people that had nothing to do with the war.
Rebecca looked at him, shock evident in her eyes. "What do you mean...?" She muttered to him.
The Ex Lieutenant clenched his fist tightly, the white of his knuckles showing. He complied in an angry tone. "The Fucking Idiots in charge had us operating based on wrong information, but we couldn't go home empty handed. Oh, no! Our fucking psychopath of a fucking leader ordered us to attack an innocent village." He gritted his teeth hard. "A village of people who I doubt had even seen the rest of civilization for probably years! An' we probably fucking killed them all!" He yelled loudly and threw his gun to the floor with a clatter, he huffed heavily and cold sweat began to accumulate on his skin.
Rebecca stared at him with sympathy and some shame. She had considered him a monster, but he was in fact just a soldier who had seen a horrible event happen.
The Lin brothers stopped their search. They had all the items they were looking for but stopped once they saw an angry Billy Coen shout and throw his gun down. Cisco knew the reason for this random outburst was because Billy was telling Rebecca of his origin how he came to be at this point. It did seem to be early for him to start telling his story if he was honest, but then again as he stated many times: this wasn't the game.
Billy had more emotions than the A.I in RE: Zero. It was sad to see this man in this state, but then again no man was made of stone.
Cisco decided now was the best time to get moving and not to prod further, he motioned to his two brothers that they should get moving. With Cisco leading the way, Yokai followed, and McCoy was about to until he spotted something in the corner of his eye. Taking a curious glance, his eyes soon widened. It was certainly something he never expected to see. "Sweet baby Jesus…" he said with awe and went to it – holding the statue.
Cisco called it a bit awkward, getting the other two's attention. "Ummm, we got what we needed," he stated a bit awkwardly.
The two main characters of Zero stared at what he was holding, it was a red jerry can. They were practically everywhere but they couldn't bring it with them, game inventory didn't exist unfortunately.
Yokai calls out to Billy. "You alright man?" Billy didn't say anything but slowly nodded, he huffed for a bit then proceeded to pick up the shotgun he threw.
Rebecca could only stare at him with sympathy. She didn't know how bad Billy felt because she hasn't experienced that kind of experience. She assumed it must be bad, no horrendous. She turned to the brothers, ready to talk, then realized someone was missing..
"Where's McCoy?" she asked.
Both Yokai and Cisco were visibly confused, he was right next to them. Cisco would have called out if he didn't say. "I'm right here!"
He came back next to his bro's holding the statue, and something that was situated on his head. He was grinning happily.
His two brothers along with the main characters from Zero, were bewildered, Yokai was feeling a bit jealous.
Billy awkwardly pointed at him. "Are those bunny ears?" McCoy grinned even wider.
Yokai cursed under his breath. "Lucky son of a bitch…"
Cisco just tilted his head. He was just confused, that wasn't in the game. "Where...did you find that?" he asks.
McCoy quickly replied. "By the statue, I-I mean can you believe it?!" He shouted loudly. He just couldn't contain his excitement.
The two brothers knew that McCoy had a love for bunnies, he even had a category for his favorite animals. Birds, Cats, dogs, lizards and bunnies were on the top tier list. Bunnies however where the ones he loves a little more, and the fact that he found those ears.
Well this is the result you'll get.
Rebecca Chambers was just...honestly everything was becoming indescribable at this point. She did however find his excitement for the rabbit ears well...adorable, I mean what girl wouldn't find his attitude adorable? The cheery attitude with his brothers. His Divine bod– 'Wait what?!' she shouted in her mind. Her cheeks were bright pink. 'Come on Rebecca you're better than this, why are you suddenly crushing on him?! Bad Rebecca you just met him,' she mentally scolded herself.
Billy pointed at them. "I'm just gonna say it, you guys are the weirdest people I've met. I mean you're treating our situation weirdly at this point it's questionable." Even though he knew that wasn't true, he just had to point this out.
The three brothers shrugged. "We're like this sometimes." Saying it together.
"And another thing-" Billy called out. "Like seriously how do you talk at the exact same moment?"
The brother looked at each other for a moment and shrugged and Cisco turned to Billy. "Well when you've lived with two brother for most of the time to support each other, you pick up a thing or two. This is one of those things," Cisco said with a smile.
Billy just shook his head humorously, a smile now gracing his features. A step away from his episode. "Alright, freaking weirdos. So you gonna explain why you are carrying the jerry?"
"Right let me explain." he pointed upstairs, while using his right arm to hold the red can full of gasoline. "Up there, there is a centipede-like creature called a Centurion, it's gonna be a major pain in the bloody rear. Because there's a key that we need," he continued. "McCoy had the smart idea of using this flammable liquid to keep it distracted–kill it. That way we can get our key, and continue forward."
Billy and Rebecca gazed at the larger teen with impressed looks. Billy had to express his thoughts. "Damn kid, no offense, but I didn't think you would come up with that. Thought you were, well...the dumb one." he stated which earned a glare from the medic. She was about to scold him until McCoy waved him off.
"Nah it's cool man. I get it. Big muscled men are not very smart. honestly I've been called worse so no pressure." He grinned.
Billy swore those ears moved, like they were part of his head. 'Out of all of them, this kid is the most cheerful.' He smiled a bit, then slightly frowned and graced his lips though he hid it. 'They may be teens but they're still kids…' He clenched his fists, this time not in anger, but determination. 'I got to make sure they survive. This is what soldiers were made for. This was why I joined the marines: to keep the innocent safe,' he vowed.
He would make sure these boys will see the light of day even if it kills him...the righteous side of hell. Oh, the irony, he thought.
Rebecca felt something she hadn't before. An urg, she tapped on McCoy's shoulder to get his attention, he turned to her and hummed. "C-can I ask you something?" she stuttered
"Uhhh sure, what is it?" He tilted his head, one ear tilting as well. Rebecca squealed in response.
She took a breath and said. "C-can I pat your head. I-I know this is weird of me saying this but I just can't fight this urg well. You can say I know I should be fine." She blushed. She noticed his cheeks were red now, and it looked like steam came from his embarrassed head.
"Uhh sure." He leaned his head forwards in embarrassment and felt her smooth hand grace his head which actually leaned in more.
Yokai and Cisco watched with incredulous expressions. Yokai just had to question this, leaning close he whispered to Cisco. "This is the Resident Evil universe right?"
He whispered back. "Well A universe but yes."
"Did we fuck it up?" A smile started to form and he was about to laugh. "This looks like something you would see in anime." He bit his lip.
The intelligent teen nodded. "It does seem out of place…" They continued to watch as Rebecca kept gliding her fingers through his hair. 'Oh dear, the ripples are beginning.'
'Wow, his hair is so soft. It's like petting an actual rabbit.' she mentally commented.
Billy -with the same look as the Lin's- leaned next to them. "You guys are seeing this right?"
"Mhm," both of them acknowledged.
"I swear, this is the last thing I would see. Shouldn't we get going now?" he asked with his eyebrow raised.
"Oh right ummm. I hate to prod but I think we should get going," Cisco stated, making Rebecca stop and blush harder.
She actually forgot. That had never happened to her before and now she feels embarrassed, McCoy was the same.
"I swear this is like a romantic anime," Yokai commented, because at this point it did seem like it. Cisco snorted at his comment.
"Alright let's get going, you two can flirt and exchange saliva later~" He smirked at them. Yokai began laughing and Billy began to chuckle.
McCoy had a red embarrassed angered look. A vain popped out. "I'm gonna slap the glasses off your face, bitch," he warned.
Rebecca didn't say anything and hid her face in her hands. This situation was more questionable than life threatening.
Cisco chuckles. "Whatever, come on, let's get going," he ordered and led the way upstairs.
Little did they know, a peculiar creature watched from the ceiling as the group went to the upper level. Its recent watching of their exchanges with curiosity, it deem them strange, yet it was compelled to follow them. it wanted to feel safe around them. It had no intentions of killing them, or even any sensations of hunger for that matter.
Its fish-like eyeball blinked as it began to follow. Sticky green slime coated its bottom half like a slug, allowing it to stick just enough to the ceiling. Its skeletal humanoid-like arms with five Gelatinous black fingers that resembled writhing worms more than fingers. They would grip the ceiling and pull their owner forwards.
The sticky green slime squelched, yet none of the group heard it, and it kept crawling after them to a very dangerous room, as the group would soon find out.
3 minutes later
"Alright, so what's your plan kid?" Billy asked Cisco who was grinning.
Turning to his brother he thanked him for the plan once more, then turned back to the experienced soldier. "Alright this is how it works–" he pointed at down at the swimming pool sized
see that cage?" He pointed to the cube shape cage that was next to the rusted metal grate. "The key is under it, and one of us has to get it. nce we do, I will throw this can of flammable liquid on the mutant centipede, then one of you has to shoot it," he finished.
Billy and Rebecca getting his message. They both did notice a problem in the plan, and Billy pointed this out. "But who is gonna get the key and be bait? No offense but you kids have bad aim, and you lost your magnum." He pointed at McCoy who rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment. Her ears seemed to lower.
Cisco sighed. "The thing is, McCoy said this was his plan. He Volunteered as–" Rebecca cut him off.
She shook her head and disproved. "No, nuh uh." Like a mother disapproving a child's dangerous idea.
McCoy stuttered a bit in outrage. This was his plan so why couldn't he face danger? "C-come on! I'm the one who made this plan just let me–" He was cut off by her before her could finish.
"No!" She shouted, shutting him up. "I may be a rookie at this, but I refuse to put civilians like you three as bait. Even if you know what's going on that would go against the code of honor as a Bravo team member. So instead," She stopped for a moment to catch her breath, then spoke again. "I'll be the bait," she stated all too calmly. So calmly that there was no fear In her tone.
Even Billy was surprised. McCoy, stunned, grumbled under his breath. "Fucking...bullshit crap…"
Yokai again whispers to Cisco because at this point things were getting bizarre. "Okay, the headpats and now this?"
"Things are getting...peculiar and bizarre." Clearing his throat a bit he spoke out. "Alright let's get ready then. Here is the plan that McCoy made. Since he won't be the bait he will be the one using the crank to lift the cage." He turned to Rebecca. "Miss Chambers, when you get down there you need to be extra quiet. If it comes out, start running, and don't be surprised by its size. All you need to do is get the key and run out of there fast."
Then he turned to Billy. "How good of a shot are you?" he asked, to which Billy cocked his shotgun.
"Good enough," Billy simply stated.
Cisco placed both his hands together, he had a satisfied smile. Ready to put McCoy's plan to action. "Let's get dangerous."
The plan was set into motion. McCoy, though, went to the crank begrudgingly –because he didn't get to be the one to see Centreon first hand– and readied himself to start lifting the cage. Billy loaded up his shotgun and stood behind Yokai, the Lin was going to throw the red canester at the boss monster.
Rebecca began to climb down the rearing pool. The clanging of her shoes against the metal ladder was filling her with anxiety.. Hopping off the ladder, she took in a deep breath to calm her nerves.
It did little to calm her nerves. The sight provided by the old wall-lamps showed tiled floors and walls covered in a thick, black grime. Rusted pipes as big as a human torso snaked through the walls, a bout of steam occasionally slipping through the screws connecting them together. They were ready to burst but had still held firm. Whoever built this place thought of the long-term. Traces on the ground amidst broken tiles showed that something enormous lived here. It seemed to have been searching for something -perhaps food- as it wandered about this dank and musty chamber.
Cisco, signaled to McCoy to start lifting the cage. The bigger teen responded by spinning the wheel, making lound and slightly obnoxious screeching noises which sounded worse than in the game. The chains holding the cage began to lift
Rebecca watched the ground, and there she saw it: A little key. This prompted her to move and retrieve it, she took a closer look at it. The key was golden with a hexagon shaped end. She felt satisfied, perhaps she overreacted a bit because nothing happened. until she heard it.
Rebecca froze, her emerald eyes staring at the grate. She could hear the sound of clicking, chattering noises like that of an angry rattlesnake. Her heart was jumping again.
She began to shout, but not loud enough for this creature to hear her. "Guys! Guys, I hear it!" The chattering was getting louder by the second, to the point it seemed that was all that Rebecca could hear.
Cisco nodded and raised his hand. "Get ready Yokai!" He shouted
Yokai putting the red can above his head, feeling the flammable liquid slosh around.
Billy cock his shot gun and aims, ready to fire.
Finally it came knocking over the metal grate. The mutant creature finally showed its putrid head that held large sharp, red madables. It's reddish black carapace reflected the lights as it slowly rose its upper body towering above Rebecca like she had shrunk in size.
Centurion was a centipede mutated by the T-virus, actively enhancing its body though eating the disposed test subjects.
A loud hiss came from the creature, which shouldn't be possible since no insect of any species can produce a hiss such as this. But once again the T-virus has given this creature the ability to produce sound.
There was a difference between seeing something on the screen and then seeing something in front of your eyes. Cisco couldn't help but be amazed and horrified, amazed that he got to see such a creature and horrified that he was almost near it.
Rebecca had once again stiffen in fear. Sweat began to build up as her heart quickened, she knew it was staring down at her. Like the tables have turned the natural order, now she has become the insect.
The already enhanced mandibles under the gargantuan centipede head detached and became longer.
Cisco and the rest of the boys were so transfixed that he nearly forgot about McCoys plan. "UH! Yokai! Throw now!"
Shaking from his shock, with a loud cry he throws the large can at Centurion. Billy aimed at the can that flew towards the creature, as soon as that can touched its armor. He fired.
The can erupted in a massive plume of fire that caught the mutant centipede by surprise and soon it began to screech loudly.
Rebecca was all surprised but remembered what's happening. Quickly she began to sprint away from the writhing creature, that thrashed violently from the burning flames.
She heard Cisco shout "Now McCoy!" As she climbed and hopped up later.
The cube shaped cage fell quickly and landed on top of Centurion with a sickening crack and squelch. It screeched and struggled even more because the flames deep into the cracked armor, cooking it from the inside.
The group watched as it was slowly being roasted from the inside, soon its screeching became less and less until ultimately dying as fire completely outlined its body.
The group was silent at first until McCoy cheered. "Whoa! Yay we did it!" Soon his two brothers joined and they began to high five each other.
"That was so awesome!" Yokai shouted with glee
Billy patted the big teens back. "I'll say, that wasn't a bad plan, kid. Though." He turned to Yokai. "Hadn't it been for you to throw that can who knew what would have happened to Rebecca."
Yokai nodded. "True."
"Well how are you miss Chambers?" Cisco inquired.
She turned to the boys, she gave a bit of a small yet cheery smile. "I'm okay guys, that was just so frightening honestly. But I'm glad I'm out of there." She pulled out the key. "So we finally have this, what now?"
"Now, follow us. We are gonna get out of here." Cisco stated. The group leaves the area while the mysterious creature decides to follow them.
However as soon as they left, the burning body of centurion was being pulled back inside of the grate violently, of course the cube sized cage kept it from going further. Until half its body was then off and pulled inside.
Another hiss again, with the sound of chittering this time.
Things are beginning to change.
Thanks for reading this chapter! I apologize for not updating but I was under a lot of writer's block and dealing with personal problems. But I'm back so no worries!
Yes the canceled monsters are coming, honestly it's gonna be fun bringing them in.
Alright now questions!
Quest: Thanks, I made the three characters brothers because one nothing like that has happened. Two I was inspired by a resident evil fiction called Resident evil: Legacy and Resident evil: Walking death and the greatest. Resident evil: stay alive. Three different fanfics, one with more humor, and one with more seriousness and one with both.
At least think. It's been awhile honestly.
As for calling Billy William? Well I looked it up and I've made a mistake. I honestly remembered that he was called William before, it was in umbrella chronicles. I swear I heard her say William as his name. It could be a Mandela effect. Either way I apologize if I confused y
Oh guys, ill see if I can fix that problem in the last chapters.
Anyway, thank you again for reading. But before I leave I need to make an announcement, I made a new story. It's an Si story which involves none other than me!
Well at least a version of me, though keep in mind because this is me I like to look at certain assets. Go check they story out if you want It a RWBY fic.
