Simon lifted his head. The voices sounded weirdly familiar. He looked up and saw two boys from Nick's soccer team. It was Garrett Laughlin and Bram Greenfeld. "Wait, Eisner?" Garrett shouted.
"Sup," Nick coughed.
"We thought we were the only survivors," Garrett said. "This is such a relief. Wow, you guys look awful."
"A week only living on saltwater will do that to you," Leah said. She stood up and began to brush herself off. She covered her mostly exposed body with her arms. It was different when it was Abby and the boys, but she wasn't particularly close with the other boys. The others were like family to her.
"Well, luckily, you came to the right deserted island," Garrett said. "We're far from a five-star resort, but we manage. We set up camp in the woods. Come, on we've managed to find some none poisonous berries. That should help you get back on your feet."
Abby, Nick, Simon, and Leah followed them into the woods. The shade felt like heaven on their skin. After days of metal, the grass felt amazing on their feet. It was these small things they took for granted but were now so grateful for.
"There's actually another survivor," Garrett said. "He arrived on the island when we did."
They shortly arrived at the camp. Simon felt his stomach twist when he saw the other survivor. His group seemed to have the same reaction. The person who was holding down camp was truly despicable.
"Hey, guys," Martin Addison greeted.
That night, Garrett cooked a fish over the fire. It was split evenly among the group. They also had a side of berries. "We usually have more to go around," Garett explained. "The water was quite barren today."
"You did your best," Bram said. "And that's all that matters."
"You'll do better tomorrow," Martin said. There was always an awkward silence after Martin spoke. Everyone at school knew that Martin had outed Simon. Some people saw him as an irredeemable douchebag, the homophobes applauded him, but most people didn't care. It was drama happening between some theater kids, after all.
Abby stood up. "I call a truce," Abby said.
"There's no way I'm going to hold hands and sing Kumbaya with Martin," Leah declared. Leah went berserk when she found out Martin created the post. She tried to fight him, but Nick and Simon stopped her. She still hated his guts.
"No one is asking you to," Abby said. "I'm just saying temporary peace. We can go back to hating each other when we're back in Georgia. We're going to need each other if we plan on getting off this island."
"I agree to that truce," Simon said.
"Me too," Nick said.
"Bram and I have already made our peace with Martin," Garrett said. "Outing Simon wasn't cool, but he's proven to be a valued member of the camp."
"I use to be a member of the Eagle Scouts," Martin said.
"Noted," Nick said. Everyone turned their attention to Leah. She was the only one who hadn't made the truce.
"Fine," Leah groaned. "But the moment we're off the island, I'm killing you."
