The Resistance: Avalon Net Gameplay

I, Mark Briggs known as Meymage, play The Resistance: Avalon online on 5/15/2020 having six players total in the game.

Introduction:

The Resistance: Avalon pits the forces of Good and Evil in a battle to control the future of civilization. Arthur represents the future of Britain, a promise of prosperity and honor, yet among his brave warriors are Mordred's unscrupulous minions. These few evil minions that know each other are hidden except from one of Arthur's servants. Merlin alone knows these agents of evil, he must speak of this only in riddles, because if his true identity is discovered all will be lost.

During the game players set up missions for their team. In this six player game we have two Spies and four Resistance members. The first mission has exactly two players. Missions two and four has exactly three players. Mission three and five has exactly four players. It's a battle of which team completes three missions before the other team.

The fifth mission requires all four Resistance members for it to pass. One Spy in enough for the mission to fail. The Resistance also loses if Merlin is discovered among the Resistance team. The Spies are unaware of any Resistance roles at the start of the game.

Morgana appears as Merlin to Percival. Merlin and Percival are Resistance. The rest are known as regular Resistance members trying to deduce the situations. The spies see their entire team unaware of the other player's role. At this time the game can consist of five to ten players with a variety of roles.

Gameplay:

The game has twenty five total proposals at most. Every fifth proposed team is known as the hammer. The hammer must be approved by majority even if it's a Spy otherwise the Resistance automatically loses the game. All comments are publicly stated. Now we begin the game.

Team Proposal Missions 1.1 - 1.5

1.1: The first pick belongs to myself, Meymage, as Percival. I see two Merlins? in 1.2 and 1.4 meaning I'm going to see Morgana and Merlin's team. All teams are rejected 4:2 in mission one. I off pick 1.3 and 2.1. They appear as two players that I bank on one of them being the assassin.

1.2: The next pick belongs to a Merlin? This one offpicks 1.3 and 1.4. It's rejected.

1.3: The next pick belongs to this player. They off pick myself and 1.2. It is rejected.

1.4: The next pick belongs to the other Merlin? This player off picks 1.5 and 2.1 It gets rejected.

1.5: This player picks 1.3. The team is approved by all passing for resistance.

Team Proposal Missions 2.1-2.5

2.1: This player picks self, me, and 1.5. It gets three approvals from us on the mission.

2.2: My turn again. I add myself to 1.5. We approve but a tie isn't enough.

2.3: This Merlin? picks 2.1 and 1.5 ignoring mission one. It gets rejected.

2.4: This player picks 2.2 and 2.1 for the second mission. It gets rejected.

2.5: This Merlin? has the hammer. If this team fails I will Morg this Merlin. This player adds self to 1.5. The mission succeeds. I suspect it's clean.

Team Proposal Missions: 3.1-3.5

3.1: After some discussion the 1.5 player also with the 3.1 pick adds me to the passing team. It succeeds leading us to the assassination phase.

Assassination.

The assassin says this is a shot in the dark since everyone picked a correct m1. I had picked 2.1 and 1.3. The spies considered 1.5 as a shot and not 1.3 or 1.4 as much. I'm relieved after a minute when they killed me. I had protected Merlin from dying for the Resistance. Merlin is 1.4. We win the game. I have self sacrificed on many occasions to deflect the shot.

Afterward:

We discuss very little besides the difficult shot. Since the Resistance played well Merlin remained hidden. Sweep games are rare though can still have some entertainment value. I have claimed Merlin as Percival to die before. It is a rare occasion in my experience. To make a game out of it I do my best to determine what Merlin and Morgana wish to see with missions.
