Fin and Kat were in the interrogation room with Kevin.
"Stop playing with us kid!" Fin told the teenager. "We know you raped her!"
"You don't have any proof," Kevin told them, smugly.
"Oh yeah, we do," Kat informed. She leaned closer to him. "She's pregnant."
"That's not possible, she's not a teenager yet!" Kevin told them. "You're bluffing."
"Girls can bloom early," Kat informed him.
Kevin's face became white as a sheet.
Buchanan walked into the interrogation room.
"Do not say one more word, Mr. Michael," he told him. He looked at Kat and Fin. "My client is done here."
"He raped a young girl," Fin told him.
"Any proof you have is coincidental," he countered.
"The girl is pregnant," Kat told him.
"And from my understanding, the girl has a boyfriend," he said, "I'm sorry, ex-boyfriend."
Kat glared at him.
"Let's go, Kevin," Buchanan offered.
"See you," Kevin told the Sergeant and detective with a smile.
They were back in the squad room.
"I can't believe his mother lawyered up," Amanda said.
"She didn't," Fin informed her. "His father did. She disowned him."
"I would too," Olivia admitted.
A few days later (February 1st), at the SVU precinct, Amanda answered the phone this time, and as she listened to the other person on the line, her face dropped.
After she hung up, she hurried to her Captain's office, she knocked quickly.
"Enter," she heard her older friend and mentor say. Amanda walked in. Olivia saw the look on her face. "What is it?"
"You know that girl, Ava Morgenstern?" She questioned.
"Yes," Olivia responded.
"She had a miscarriage," she told her.
As Olivia and Amanda entered the hospital, Judy walked up to them, she had tears in eyes.
"Where's Ava?" Amanda questioned.
"In room 113," she informed them.
"Okay," Olivia said. They started to walk past her, but she stopped them.
"Please, don't talk to her yet," she begged them. "She's so heartbroken right now."
"Yes, I think my son sprained his ankle, so I wanted to get him checked out," Olivia heard someone say.
Olivia turned around and saw that it was KC with the little boy she saw the other day.
"Sure, we'll get him checked out," the receptionist assured her, with a smile.
KC looked over and saw the group of women.
"Go ahead and sit down, sweetie," she told her son.
She walked over to the women.
"Hey, what are you all doing here?" She questioned. "Did something happen with Ava?"
"She…" Judy began to say. She looked at KC directly. "She had a miscarriage."
KC demeanor completely changed. Tears formed in her eyes.
"Lucas Minkus?" She turned to the doctor. Her son walked, with a limp, over to the doctor.
"Do you want me to go with you?" She offered.
"No, I'm fine, Mama," he assured his mother and left with the doctor.
She walked over to the seats and sat down. Olivia looked at her, curiously.
"I suppose, if you would like to see if she wants to speak with you, I will allow it," she told the older woman. "Also, I would like to apologize for my attitude the other day. I didn't know how to deal with what happened to my daughter. I love her more than anything."
"She told me the other day that she wanted the baby," Olivia told her. "Were you aware of that?"
"Yes," she confirmed. "I told her that August's family and I would help her if she was serious about it. She begged me not to tell August or his family. I didn't expect her to end their relationship. She told me that she did after I mentioned about them helping her."
Olivia looked at KC again. Her shoulders were slouched and she was looking down.
"So, should we go, Cap.?" Amanda asked Olivia. She didn't respond. "Liv?"
"You go," she told her, "I'll stay back."
"You sure?" Amanda asked her.
"Absolutely, Rollins. Go on," Olivia assured.
Amanda followed Ava's mother out of the waiting room.
Olivia walked over and sat next to KC.
"Hey," she told her. "Are you okay?"
KC looked up and over at Olivia.
"Umm, no..." KC admitted. "Ava is one of my son's best friends… and I guess I can honestly say, one of my friends." Olivia patiently waited for her to continue. "I never expected her to have a miscarriage."
"No one expects that to happen," Olivia said.
"I was in an abusive relationship a few years ago, and he assaulted me and I got pregnant twice and lost the baby both times because of him," KC said. "I w-wanted them, I wanted them to have a chance to live. Now...now she's going through the same thing. She wanted the baby...the only good thing that would have ever come out of that."
"What's your name?" Olivia asked. "Kacey spelled out or the letters K, C?"
"The letters," KC answered. "It stands for Katy Carmela."
"Wait..." Olivia said, coming to a realization, "are you that girl that disappeared years ago?"
"Yeah," she said. "My abusive father, Anthony, ran off with me. He had custody so they didn't even try to find me."
"Did they know he was abusive?" Olivia asked.
"No, they didn't believe my mom. He pretended to be a saint," KC answered her. "My ex was just like him."
"By just like him, do you mean...?"
"Anthony assaulted my mom and I'm the product of that," KC said. "I don't expect you to understand how it feels to know that."
There was a long pause before Olivia told the young mother,
"Actually, I would. My mom was raped in college and I was the product of that."
"Oh," KC said. "I'm sorry, I didn't know. I guess finding out about Ava brought everything back. She told me that she knew her baby would be just like me...the best person she's ever met."
Olivia nodded. She looked at the child's jacket next to her.
"So, how old is your son?"
"Six," she answered with a loving smile. "I got married to Jaxon, his father, when I was fourteen and had Lucas when I was fifteen. I had cancer and it was my last wish, and it was legal with guardian permission, which, at the time, were Jaxon's parents. I was supposed to die, but I ended up going into remission shortly after we got married. Jaxon died on the day Luke was born."
"I got engaged when I was sixteen," Olivia said. "When I told my intoxicated mother about it, she went after me with a broken beer bottle. I thought she was going to kill me. I kicked her into a wall. I ended up breaking the engagement a few days later."
"My father was arrested a couple of years before Jaxon and I got engaged," KC said. "He had nearly killed me several times. Same with my ex-boyfriend Derrick, who only got two years when he was supposed to get five. When he got out, he kidnapped my son and threw him out of the vehicle, which made him hearing impaired."
"If we had been put on your case, he would have definitely gotten more than five years," Olivia told her, confidently. Olivia saw that KC had a ring on her left ring finger. "I take it you're married again."
"Yeah," she smiled holding up her hand. "I had dropped out of school until I came back here. I'm twenty-one now. I started my sophomore year here, and after I finally left Derrick, I started dating one of my classmates and best friends, Farkle Minkus, a couple of months later. Right after I broke up with Derrick, he tried to stab me, and Farkle stepped in the way. We married a little over two years later in our senior year of high school."
"Don't take this the wrong way, but I'm surprised that no one called us on you," she said.
"Yeah, me too," KC laughed a little. "I guess no one thought about it since we were both sophomores. We didn't do anything until our wedding night, if you're wondering."
Olivia nodded.
Amanda walked into the waiting room.
"KC," she spoke up, "Ava would like to talk to you."
KC nodded and walked to Ava's hospital room.
"Hey, KC," Ava greeted her.
"Hey…"
"Did I make a mistake?" She asked.
"What do you mean?" KC inquired.
"I shouldn't have broken up with him...I made a mistake, right?"
KC walked over to her and wrapped her in a hug.
"I think so," KC admitted.
Ava cried in KC's arms.
