Jynx of Thirty-Nine

3

A/N: I can hear you all now. "Jesus, Jynx chapter three AT LAST!" LOL. Don't count on regular chapters since I'm still working on POTUS, but I kinda had a little thought for this chapter and decided to write it tonight.

Alex was standing on the balcony outside the DEO command center, leaning on the wall as she gazed out over the city. She felt a little uneasy. In the space of a couple of days, she'd learned that in another universe, she was married to Kara and had children with her; that the Nazis from Earth X had invaded that universe; that Kara may not be alive in ten years' time and that her sister had confessed to having had feelings for her when they were kids.

It was a lot.

"What's wrong witcha, Love?" Jynx asked as she strolled to her.

"You probably shouldn't call me Love," Alex replied. "I'm not your wife."

"Oh, I call everyone love, Love," the Kryptonian chuckled. "Seriously though, what's wrong?"

The director kept her eyes on the people, moving like ants, on the street below. "I think... I'm scared."

"Of me?" Jynx asked gently. "I'm not here to hurt anyone, Alex."

"No, I'm not scared of YOU, Kara... I mean... Jynx," the younger woman clarified. "I'm scared of what you represent."

Jynx's brow furrowed, just like her earth thirty-eight counterpart, causing a little crinkle to appear. "I don't get it, Love."

"Your Alex... she has a wife and children. It's... what I've always wanted for myself but... my last two relationships failed... the first because she didn't want children... and the second... because I screwed up and pushed her away."

"Why'd you do that then?" the blonde asked bluntly.

"I don't know," Alex shrugged.

"Porky pies," Jynx replied, just as bluntly. "I know when my Alex is not being totally honest. You have the same tell, Love."

The director shook her head and looked away. "I don't... I don't know, Jynx."

"Ok..." the older woman said as she stepped closer and wrapped her arms around Alex to hug her gently.

The brunette allowed the hug for a moment and then blinked as she pulled away. "Jynx... don't... I don't know you," she said.

The blonde nodded. "Sorry... yeah, you're right, Love." She chuckled then. "Guess we should get to the meeting."

Alex just nodded and walked away, leaving her sister's doppelganger to follow. They met Kara in the hallway on the way to the briefing room. She was dressed in skinny jeans and a pink button up. Her hair was pulled back in a neat braid and her glasses were perched comfortably on her nose. She grinned and switched her coffee cup to her other hand so she could wave. "Hey, Guys."

"Nice, Love," Jynx teased. "Going for the sexy librarian vibe? Wait, is that how MY ass and thighs look in skinny jeans too? Damn gurl."

Kara blushed and almost inhaled her coffee, and Alex couldn't help but laugh. "Yes, you guys are hot," she replied with an exaggerated eyeroll. "Don't pretend you don't know it... and that was aimed at you, Jynx."

Kara thirty-nine linked arms with Kara thirty-eight and guided her down the hallway. Then she chuckled as she glanced back over her shoulder at superspeed. "She's looking at our asses," she murmured. "Or maybe just at yours."

"What? No..." Kara replied, feeling suddenly a little confused and tight in her chest. "Stop, Jynx."

Blue eyes rolled and Jynx shook her head as she just continued the walk with her lookalike.

"I'm in," Clark said as he folded his arms over his broad chest and leaned back against the briefing room wall. "Honestly, if they were able to invade thirty-nine, who's to say they won't try to come to thirty-eight?"

"Right," Kara agreed. "And while I don't relish the thought of seeing Overgirl again, between Clark, Jynx and I, we'll be able to get kryptonite cuffs on her and keep her subdued. We barely stopped them on earth one. I don't want them getting anywhere near thirty-eight." She looked around the room and met each person's eyes. "J'Onn?"

"I'm in."

"Alex?"

"Pshaww... of course I'm in."

Jynx and Kara both smiled affectionately at the director.

"Vasquez?" Kara went on.

"In," the Latina replied. "But I want a big ass alien gun."

J'Onn grinned. "I can arrange that for you."

Kara turned then to look at a dark-haired woman standing quietly behind a leather chair. "Lena?"

"I'm in, Supergirl. We can use my transmat portal to get to earth thirty-nine."

"Thank you," Kara said sincerely, her lips lifting into a grateful smile. "That way we don't have to rely on Jinx's gauntlet... just in case you know?"

The other Kara nodded. "Safer," she agreed. Then she chuckled. "My Lena doesn't have a transmat portal."

"I guess she never met the Daxamites either," Lena replied with a shrug. "I built mine from schematics provided by their queen. It didn't turn out so well." Her eyes moved to Kara, who was staring at the floor, not quite able to hide the pain that swept over her at the memory of Mon-El.

"Anyway," Kara went on. "Looks like everyone is in. Let's get ready and leave first thing in the morning. Everyone get a good night's sleep, ok?" A round of nods circled the room and the team filed out. "Lena... could we talk for a minute?"

The raven-haired woman nodded and hung back. Kara closed the door behind J'Onn and took a breath. "Kara... it's ok," Lena said quietly. "I know you don't trust me anymore but..."

"Wait," the blonde interrupted gently. "That's not..." She took another breath. "I wanted to say thank you, Lena."

Dark eyebrows lifted in surprise. "For... what?"

"For holding yourself accountable for your part in what happened both with Lex and with what happened between us. We... we were both at fault at various points and... I just want you to know that I DO trust you, Lena. You're... astonishing."

And then she was wrapping her arms around Lena's warm body as the older woman hugged her hard. "You too," Lena whispered. "Thank you for believing in me again. I really needed it."

Kara rubbed her friends back gently. "Get some rest, ok? I'll see you in the morning."

"Bye, Kara," Lena smiled and then headed out.

Kara waited a moment to get her emotions in check and then stepped out into the hallway, pulling the briefing room door closed behind her.

"So," Jynx asked casually as she leaned against the wall with her arms crossed. "You fucking HER, Love?"

Kara sighed and shook her head as she pinched the bridge of her nose. She was sure that, had she been human, she'd have a headache the size of the sun by now. "No, Jynx. I'm not, as you so eloquently put it, fucking her. She's my best friend. I'm not sleeping with anyone."

"Ha! That explains it," the older Kryptonian stated as if she'd just had a eureka moment.

"Explains what?" Kara asked, not even the slightest bit sure that she wanted to hear the answer.

Jynx chuckled softly. "She's smokin' hot and obviously into you. Why haven't you tapped that?"

"Oh my God," the younger Kryptonian groaned. "You sound like a horny teenager. Stop!"

"I'm serious, Superchick, why haven't you?"

"I'm not gay," Kara replied, sighing heavily.

"Me neither," Jynx shrugged.

Kara looked back at her skeptically. "Right."

"No... I mean... gay didn't exist on Krypton. Don't you remember that? You should remember Matricomp Day where we got to see who our compatible partner was? It could have been male or female... or other, right?"

Kara frowned and shook her head. "How old were you when you left Krypton?"

"Almost fifteen," Jynx replied. "Why?"

The younger Kryptonian nodded slowly, eyes closed. "I was just two months shy of my thirteenth birthday." Her voice grew in strength then as she got angry. "I didn't get to DO Matricomp Day. I had two years fewer with my parents than you did. I was twelve years old, hurtling across space alone in a pod! Stuck in the Phantom Zone." She was yelling now. "Don't you fucking tell me what I should and shouldn't remember!"

Jynx took a step toward her, hand reaching out to her. "Kara..." she said softly. "I'm so sorry, Love."

"DON'T TOUCH ME!" Then Alex was there, hands on her, pulling her close. Kara blindly reached for her too, tears blurring her vision. "Alex..."

"It's ok, Sweetheart. I have you," the director said calmly. "Just breathe, ok?" She leaned against the wall, pulling her sister against her and rocking her gently. "Breathe with me. Listen to my heartbeat."

"Is she ok?" Jynx asked shakily.

"She will be," the director replied. "She's just a little overwhelmed right now. Maybe you should just go and let her relax, ok?"

Ok," the older Kryptonian nodded. She looked like she wanted to say something else, but she just nodded again and left Kara and Alex alone.

It took a few minutes of Alex's rocking and running her fingers through her hair before Kara calmed enough to pull back and look at her sister. "I'm sorry," she said sheepishly. "I thought I'd grown out of panic attacks."

"No apologies," the director replied with a smile. "Are you ok?"

"Fucking Jynx," the blonde replied. She hadn't cursed as much in her whole life as she had since Jynx had arrived, but she couldn't help it. The older Kryptonian was infuriating. She felt confused and unsure, and it wasn't fun.

"I know she's a bit annoying, but she means well," Alex said with a smile.

"Of course, you'd defend her," Kara muttered caustically. "She looks at you like you're her next meal. Why wouldn't you want to tap that?"

"Ok," Alex said, surprise coloring her tone. "Upset Kara is turning into mean Kara. What's going on?"

"You're not hers, you're mine!" the blonde blurted out.

Dark eyebrows lifted. "Yours?"

"My... s-sister," Kara added, backpedaling a little. "You're my sister, not her wife."

Brown eyes gentled. "I know that, Kara," the director chuckled. "And so does she. Where's this coming from?"

Kara whipped her glasses off her nose, accidentally deploying her super suit. "She asked me why I haven't slept with Lena. I told her I'm not gay, but every time Jynx looks at me, I can tell she's wondering why you and I are not..." Kara stopped suddenly. "You know what? I don't want to talk about this. I have... I have to go." She turned and fled to the balcony to take to the sky.

"Kar... Supergirl... wait!" Alex called after her, but her sister was already gone, and she shook her head bemusedly. "What a weird couple of days," she murmured. "I feel like I'M in the damn alternate universe."

"Hey," Jynx said softly as she sat on the balcony wall, legs dangling over the edge. "I miss you, Baby."

A hologram of Alex thirty-nine smiled back at her from the image projected from her gauntlet. "I miss you too, Kara-Te. How's it going? What did you find?"

"I'm on thirty-eight. I found two Kryptonians and their team of assets who've agreed to help us." Jynx smiled. "You'll never guess who the Kryptonians are."

"Who?" Alex asked as Chloe came to sit on her lap and grin at her other mother.

"Hi, Baby Girl," Jynx smiled. "Are you being good for Mama?"

Brown eyes rolled. "Yes, /ieiu/."

"Good, I miss you so much. How's Jack doing?"

"Being annoying," Chloe huffed. "He's messing with my stuff."

"Of course he is," the Kryptonian laughed. "That's what little brothers do. I need you to take care of your Mama and brother until I get back, ok?"

"I will, Mom. I love you."

"Love you too, Baby Girl."

She watched as Chloe slid down from her wife's lap and disappeared from the hologram. "So, you were about to tell me who the two Kryptonians are," Alex said with a smile.

"Yep," Jynx nodded. "Kara Zor-El and Kal-El. There's also an Alex Danvers here. That's bleedin' strange I can tell you."

"I bet," her wife laughed. "Are Kara thirty-eight and Alex thirty-eight together too?"

"No... oblivious idiots. They're still sisters." She made air quotes. "But Jesus, Ally, the heart eyes between them are ridiculous."

"Don't get involved, Kara-Te. They're not ready yet. They need to figure it out in their own time."

"I know, Baby." Jynx smiled then. "The good news is, there's a Lena on this earth too and she has a transmat portal that can bring us all to you. We'll be there tomorrow morning. They're going to need somewhere to stay."

"How many?" Alex asked.

"Kara, Alex, Vasquez, Kal, Lena and J'Onn. Two Kryptonians, a Martian Manhunter and two genius humans. Piece of cake, huh?"

There was quiet for a moment and Alex swallowed. "It's getting worse here, Kara. The Nazis are already on their way toward Washington. The Fuhrer and Overgirl are destroying everything in their path."

"I'll be back tomorrow morning, Ally, I promise," Jynx replied.

"I can't wait. /zhao khap rrip/, Kara-Te."

"/vahdah zhao khap rrip/, Ally." Jynx blinked back tears as her wife's face disappeared.

"You miss your family," Kara said as she slowly drifted down to land on the balcony. "Sorry, I wasn't trying to eavesdrop."

"A part of my heart is missing without them," Jynx replied quietly.

The younger Kryptonian nodded. "Listen, about earlier. I'm sorry I yelled at you."

"No... Kara... I'M sorry," the older blonde replied seriously. "You're not me. I shouldn't have assumed that your experiences have been the same as mine." She sighed and kicked her legs a little. "I've been through so much, I tend to cover my trauma with humor and stupid jokes but you... Kara, you let yourself feel it. You deal with it. You're so much... more... than I am."

"Not true," Kara agreed. "We're NOT the same person. You deal with things differently. And you know, I can't imagine for one moment, ANY universe where Alex would let us get away with not dealing with stuff. They love us too much."

Jynx nodded her agreement, chuckling softly. "Yeah, you're right, Kara."

"You were right too," the younger Kryptonian ventured. "I said I'm not gay but... I'm as fluid as you are. I just haven't explored being with a human female."

"Fluid," Jynx mulled that over for a moment. "I like that. And you know, Lena IS hot."

Kara closed her eyes, her voice becoming a tiny whisper that she knew only Jynx would hear. "Yeah... but Alex is hotter."

Jynx smiled. "Yeah... yeah, she really is."
