The ten months of training with All Might came and went in a flash. The training on the beach was just as intense as it was before and by the end of each day, my entire body ached from the pain. But keeping my eyes towards the future helped me push past my limits. As for studying for the written exam, being thrown into the past allowed me the luxury of knowing everything that was on the test so I wouldn't make the same mistakes again. Being a year ahead also helped further my study efforts.
And so, the day finally came…
All Might stepped out of his truck, the cold February air chilling his breath. Today's the day, he thought, walking to the entrance of Takoba Municipal Beach Park. Young Midoriya has really pushed himself these past ten months, but todays the day where we find out if his efforts were enough. If his body isn't ready to take on One for All then-
The pro hero didn't get to finish his sentence as his gaze went to the large pile of trash standing before him. The rising sun cast a shadow of the figure standing on top of it all, who's head of bushy hair waved in the cold wind as he let out a scream of victory. All Might's eyes grew wide as he looked at the beautiful and pristine beach, Incredible. He went beyond the assigned area. Not to a speck of trash left! A grin appeared on his face, "you made it just in time! And exceeded my expectations! Oh my… Oh my...Goodness." All Might buffed into his muscle form and noticed the young man began to wobble.
Midoriya leaned towards the edge and began to fall, but All Might caught the boy in his arms. "All Might," said the teen with a tired expression. "I did it. I did it!"
"You did, and then some!" All might gently set the teen down so he could stand. "For a young man like yourself to entertain me so much, it's quite astonishing. Here look at this." The hero showed the screen of his phone to Midoriya. "This is you from ten months ago. Thanks to your dedication and perseverance, you transformed that once frail body into a true-blue vessel. Excellent work!"
"It's… all thanks… to you All Might." Midoriya said with a shaky breath. "I know i worked hard and everything. But if I hadn't met you… If you hadn't trained me. I wouldn't have made it this far." he looked up to shakely smile at his idol, tears threatening to break from his eyes..
This kid, thought All Might. It's because of his own strength and will that he achieved his goal. "Seriously, you gotta quit with the water works."
Midoriya wiped away the tears, "Sorry, old habits die hard."
"Anyway, let's not waste anymore time. Let's begin the award ceremony." All Might plucked out one of his hairs. "Young Midoriya, they say that there's a big difference between being born lucky and working your but off to earn it. Take this to heart. You've earned this power, fair and square."
A wide smile grew on his lips. It took me ten months, but I'm ready to be at the starting line. "Yes, sir."
The hero reached out his hand containing the strand of hair. "Eat this." A second of silence passed as Midoriya shivered. "What's with that reaction kid, you have to ingest some of my DNA for me to transfer One for All to you."
"No, it's just… you did wash your hair today, right." Midoriya remembered the sour flavor of All Might hair from last time.
"Of course! You think gorgeous hair like this comes naturally," All Might patted the top of his slicked back hair. "Come on just eat it."
"Ok ok." Reaching out his hand, Midoriya took the long lock of hair and shoved it into his mouth. With a gulp, he shivered again, Kacchan was right. Still gross.
"It will take some time to digest, so you won't feel something until a few hours from now. But be careful, you may be a proper vessel, but you were put together in a hurry. You better prepare yourself for some real kickback." All Might turned his back, "No time for a detailed explanation, but know this… When you use One for All, clenche up your butt, and let your heart cry out, saying SMASH!"
The teen's mind went to the countless times he had broken his limbs using the full power of One for All and he clenched his fist. Before Midoriya could say another word, All Might shrunk down into his skeleton form. "For now, you should get going. Go home and get some food in you, a shower too. The test starts in three hours. Don't want to be late, Young Midoriya."
"Y-yes sir." Nodding, he grabbed his belongings and took off in the direction of home. Don't worry All Might. I already know how to use One for All. With Full Cowling, everything will be fine.
Everything was not fine…
Like All Might suddested, he went back home to quickly take a shower and get some food in him. Midoriya knew about how long it would take to get to U.A. and used the time to prepare himself.
The issue was that even after a few hours, One for All still failed to come out when he tried to call upon the power. Even a misly one percent wouldn't activate and as the towers of U.A. came into view. The new inheritor began to worry about what might happen.
I still can't feel the power of One for All, Midoriya thought, walking towards the gate of U.A. If I can't activate it by the time the practical exams starts, I'm going to be in trouble. Walking with his thoughts in a spiral for another several minutes, the entrance came into view and he stared up at the large towers which filled him with a strange sense of nostalgia. It… feels weird to be here… like coming home after a long trip. Memories quickly filled his mind, smashing robots in practical hero exercises with his classmates, relaxing at the dorms, visiting the support studio which was most likely on fire due to Hatsume. A smile grew on the teen's lips as the memories came in one after the other.
"What the hell are you smiling for Deku!?"
Midoriya snapped out of his thoughts and spun to see Bakugo approaching him. "Oh nothing Kacchan. J-just thinking about how cool U.A. looks." He awkwardly scratched the back of his head.
"Whatever, just move out of the way or you're dead."
Not wanting to push his luck today, Midoriya did just that. As his friend got closer he gave a determined smile,"Let's do our best today, Kacchan." Bakugo let out an uninterested grunt as he walked past him and the inheritor thought back to the last several months. Since the sludge villain incident, Kacchan hasn't tried to bully me like he used too. No doubt he's been trying to focus on his own preparations for the test. He watched his friend walk towards the test sign in area and caught the attention of two other applicants looking their way.
"Isn't that Bakugo? From the 'sludge villain' incident?"
"Sure is…"
He also still might be bothered by the incident. Midoriya shook his head and slapped his cheeks with his hands, gotta focus. There is still some time before the practical. Even if One for All doesn't work in time… I have to give this test everything I've got. I won't let All Might's training be for nothing.
With his heart set on the future, the Quirk inheritor took a step towards his future… But tripped on his own foot before he could start walking, Not again.
Suddenly his body stopped from hitting the ground and a brunette with pink cheeks leaned into his field of vision, "Are you okay?"
The voice was all too familiar and he turned his head to look at the person who saved him. Uraraka! Instantly the events of the hospital came to mind and how broken up the young heroine was about seeing him in that state. For Midoriya, it had been ten months since he had seen his friend and his mind jumbled with a mixture of emotions and thoughts.
While Midoriya's brain overloaded, Uraraka gently put him down on the ground then deactivated her Quirk. "Sorry for using my Quirk on you without permission. But, it's a bad omen to trip and fall," she said with a wide smile. "This sure is nerve racking, huh?"
Still in emotional overload, Midoriya nodded his head and said nothing.
"Good luck to the both of us," the brunette began to walk towards the sign-up area and gave a friendly wave goodbye. "See ya."
As Uraraka disappeared towards the test entrance, Midoriya's mind finally decided to calm itself down. I got to talk to Uraraka again!
*Didn't actually talk*
I… I'm so glad I got to talk to her again. It's been such a long time. Gotta make sure I pass so I can talk to her again. The young teen began to smile like an idiot as other applicants made their way past him.
"This is the final call for test applicants," said an automated robot at the entrance. "I repeat, this is the final call for test applicants. Please make your way to the orientation hall."
The robot's words snapped Midoriya out of his thoughts, better hurry.
"WELCOME TO TODAY'S LIVE PERFORMANCE! EVERYBODY SAY HEY!" The large Auditorium was silent as Present Mic tried to pump up the crowd of nervous students. "Well, that's cool, my examinee listeners. You've completed the written exam, now it's time to talk about the practical! Are you ready!?" The screeching teacher of U.A. was met with a loud silence. "Man, tough crowd."
Meanwhile up in the stands, Midoriya reflected on the written test, or rather how easy it had been for him. Due in no small part to his situation. Kind of feels like I cheated, he admitted. Knowing what was on the test beforehand definitely helped me.
While Present Mic began to speak about the structure of the practical exam, which also remained the same, Midoriya took the time to look around the auditorium to see if he spotted the familiar faces of either his classmates or anyone in 1-B. The lights are so dark in here that I can't make out anyone's face. It also doesn't help that there are so many people in here it is hard to tell who's who. I would have liked to see everyone but it looks like I won't get the opportunity. He let out a dejected sigh as a thought crossed his mind. Wait I'm pretty sure Iida is right over…
As if on queue, a figure rose their hand a few rows in front of him. "May I ask a question!?"
Everyone in the auditorium turned their heads and the spotlight illuminated a tall blue haired teen with glasses. "There appears to be no fewer than four varieties of faux villains on this hand out." Iida pointed to the sheet with his finger. "While I understand that errors happen from time to time, but such a blatant error, if it is one, is highly unbecoming for U.A, Japan's top Hero academy! We're all here today to be given the chance to be molded into model heroes." With a quick spin, the finger pointed at the page was turned towards Midoriya, who shuttered at the attention. "And you, with the curly hair! You have been muttering this whole time… cease that distracting behavior at once. If you think that this is some sort of game to you, then please Leave!"
Midoriya covered his mouth, as he didn't realise he had been muttering while he was looking for his classmates amongst the stands. "Sorry…" he said as other examinnies giggled and laughed. Looking to his right, Midorya saw that Bakugo was trying his best to ignore him. I hope Kacchan didn't hear anything I said.
"Alright, let's change tracks Examinee 7111. Your right there is a fourth faux Villain, but worth zero points. Not a single one," Present Mic crossed his arms into an X. "You mentioned games, well the zero pointer is kind of like a thwomp from the retro game Mario. It's an obstacle in each testing site that you should avoid."
Other examinees nodded their heads in understanding and Iida bowed his head, "Thank you, Sir. I apologize for the interruption!"
"No sweat. That's all from me! I'll leave my listeners with our school motto. The great hero Napoleon Bonaparte once said… true heroism consists in being superior to the ills of life. PLUS ULTRA. Break a leg everyone!"
This is it, Thought Izuku. I can do this.
After a short bus ride through the large campus of U.A., the group at Battle Center B exited the Bus and stood at the towering gate of the fake city. While several other examinees admired the scale of the testing area, Midoriya stood by the gate to the city stretching his limbs. No countdowns in the real world, he thought, thinking back to the first time he took the exam. As soon as the door's open, I'll charge straight ahead.
Of course, part of him was still worried whether or not One for All would even work. He thought it might be a good idea to see once he was off the bus, but he was worried about getting in trouble for using his quirk before the exam even started. So it either worked or it didn't.
Looking around while he stretched his limbs, the Quirk inheritor looked around the other examinees. Among them were a few familiar faces, Aoyama, Shoji and Tokoyami were among the crowd along with Iida and Uraraka. Part of him wanted to try and properly thank Uraraka for saving him back at the entrance, but Midoriya worried about the attention it would bring him from his former friend Iida.
Before another thought could form in his head, the clicking of the gate was heard as it began to create a gap. "AND… BEGIN," shouted Present Mic.
While the other examinees looked around in confusion, Midoryia charged in, leaving the rest of the other examinees even more confused. As he ran into the city, he steeled himself for the moment of truth. Please One for All… Please work… The Quirk inheritor tried like he had done prior, he called a small amount of the Quirk's power into his body. One for All… Full Cowling...
And it answered…
One percent of One for All coursed through his body and caused him to pick up speed. It's working! I can use One for All! As the other examinees released the exam had begun and started to run into the city, Midoriya turned his power up to five percent and dashed down a corner.
Immediately three one point robots jumped in front of his path. With a determined smile on his face, Midoriya ran full speed. Let's do this…
Meanwhile, The monitors of the observation room flashed with the various displays of Quirks at each testing site. "Quite the promising group this year," said the blood hero Vlad king.
"Indeed," nodded Midnight. The R-rated hero smiled and swooned at the examinees on screen. "So young and full of vigor."
"Take it down a notch Kayama," Present Mic said while kicking his feet up to watch the battlefield. "Oi , All Might. What do you think?" The loud Hero looked over to the skeletal form of All Might, whose gaze was locked onto a monitor featuring a green haired teen smashing a two pointer. "Oi, All Might!"
The number one hero snapped out of his thoughts and noticed the call of his name. "Sorry, I got distracted watching the video. yes, this is quite a promising crop of young heroes."
"I have a feeling this year in particular will be special indeed." A fuzzy white furred animal sipped his tea from his seat. "We are trying to bring out their ultimate potential. We don't tell them how many villains there are or where they're placed. Such a wide battlefield and limited time brings out the best in each of them. Intelligence gatherers, mobility experts, decision makers, then those who are natural born warriors." The mouse spun in his chair, "The abilities needed to preserve the peace in our city are judged by the points they earn."
"Well, it's still too early to tell," Power Loader said, crossing his arms.
"Indeed." Principle Nezu chuckled evilly while reaching on the console for a large red button. "The real test starts now."
Things weren't going as swimmingly as Midoriya had hoped. Of course, having Full Cowling for the exam was a considerable improvement from the events of the past. However, much like under the bridge with the sludge villain, issues that he didn't expect to arise did. The main one being his speed, or rather, lack thereof. While I was at Endevor's agency, I learned how to bring out 30 percent of One for All while using 45 percent at the moment of impact in order to reduce the strain on my body. Midoriya rolled underneath the arm swing of a one pointer and swiped the joint of it's leg with a kick. It's been almost a year since I last used One for All. It's taking all my concentration to keep my power output at five percent.
The constant attention to his power output severely dampened Midoriya's ability to think as fast as he usually would, resulting in him taking a hit from a few of the faux villains. Despite the issues, he had managed to amass a total of 36 points. As he began the exam, he contemplated seeing how high his body could go with the power output he was capable of. But, the risk was not worth the reward. If his body got damaged from the increase in power, it would only slow him down.
I should try and get a few more points before... As he was rounding the corner, emerging onto a large street, the crash of a building could be heard behind him. The large, menacing robot appeared as it crushed two buildings in it's large oversized hands. The zero pointer! Other examinees began to run in the opposite direction of the giant robot while Midoriya looked around as memories flashed in his head.
Uraraka, Uraraka… Where are you!? Just as he looked over in the direction the zero pointer was coming from, he saw the brunette girl already trapped under the rubble of a building.
"Oww," muttered the zero gravity user as she struggled to remove her foot from the rubble.
Like before, instincts took over and the green haired teen charged forward towards the enormous robot while the teachers in the observation room watched. Young Midoriya, when there's nothing to be gained… Rising to the challenge at those times is surely the mark of a true hero!
Crouching his legs, Midoriya put 100 percent of One for All in one of his legs and launched himself into the air to be at eye level with the Zero pointer. Instead of his fist, he pulled his undamaged leg back and his thoughts raced as 100 percent of One for All coursed through his leg, Clench your butt… and yell from the depths of your heart… "SMASH!"
Midoriya's leg swung forward with the crackling energy and hit the robot's head. The large metal plates that made up it's face caved from the attack and was sent flying back. Examinnes on the ground watched the display of power in complete awe, surprised at the green haired teen's action. The teachers were not exempt as they watched alongside a cheering Nezu. Young Midoriya, you have something special inside you. You run headlong into danger, thinking only of saving others rather than yourself. How could a school responsible for training Hero's not notice something so noble. That spirit of self sacrifice.
As the zero pointer crashed through several buildings on it's way to the ground, Midoriya started to fall back to earth screaming in pain. I forgot how much this hurts, he thought as his legs flopped uselessly in the wind. I can't use Full cowling without my legs, so I'll have to try and land with my arms. I'm not sure if a finger will be enough to stop me. As the teen formed a plan to try and get him to the ground safely, he remembered how he had been saved in the past. I hope she can hear me. Midoriya took a deep breath and called out as loud as he could, "Someone! Save me!"
The ground got closer and closer and Midoriya readied his finger for an air blast, but a hand struck his face and his descent slowed. He hovered over the ground as he looked to a round faced brunette floated atop a piece of a robot. Uraraka brought her hands together, "Release." Midoriya and the robot part she was floating on dropped to the ground with a thud.
Midoriya took a few deep breaths to calm his nerves, She saved me again. I need to thank her properly. He crawled over towards the girl, who had just finished throwing up, "Hey." The girl looked up, wiping her mouth with her sleeve. "Thanks for saving me," he said with a smile.
Uraraka smiled as well, raising a shaky hand with a thumbs up.
"AND… TIMES UP!"
Present Mic's voice rang out over the testing sites, signalling the end of the exam. Several students flopped onto the ground in order to lick their wounds. One of the examinees looked over to the crippled Midoriya, "that guy with the green hair. What he did was crazy."
"Yeah," nodded another examinee. "Must be a strength quirk or something… still that was something else."
Other examinees made comments of Midoriya's display of strength. Meanwhile, Iida shook his head. Their wrong… Were they even watching. He jumped straight in to save that girl. Even with everything that was at stake, the remaining time, his safety… He didn't even hesitate. The studious teen grit his teeth as he remembered running away from the zero pointer. Of course if this weren't an exam, I would have done the same. Just then a train of thought crossed his mind and he placed his fingers on his chin, The exam…
While the blue haired teen pondered the ideas in his head, the clicking of a cane hitting the ground came closer and closer. "Yes. Well done. Well done. Good work," She said, walking by several examinees, handing them a few haribo gummies.
Several of the examinees threw up their eyebrows. One with flowers growing out of his head asked, "Who's she?"
"Oh, that Mademoiselle," A blonde boy with a silver belt wiggled his finger. "She's the backbone of U.A. The Youthful Hero, Recovery Girl."
The nurse walked over to the broken body of Izuku Midoriya. "My my. So your own beloved Quirk did this to you… Almost looks as though your body isn't used to it. She kneeled down on the ground and kissed the injured teen. Several people gasped at her action but many more were taken aback by the green haired teen's legs which returned form their broken and contorted position.
"Her Quirk is a super healing factor," continued the blonde teen. "It's thanks to her presence that U.A. dares host such wild exams."
"Th…"
A small voice came from the lying Midoriya startled Recovery Girl and she turned around.
"Thank you… Recovery Girl." He said with a smile. Midoriya raised his hand to point at Uraraka. "Can… you make sure she's alright?"
The hero wasn't sure whether to be more surprised at the fact the young teen was still conscious or the fact he was still concerned about the girl who he saved. Regardless, she smiled, "Of course, young man. After all, making sure people are alright is what Heroes do."
Midoriya nodded his head and finally collapsed from the exhaustion caused by Recovery Girls Quirk.
As the teen was carried off by robots with a stretcher, Iida grit his teeth. Yes… If the exam was set up that way then he…
Blinking a few times, the haze that clouded Midoriya's vision disappeared and images took shape. Turning his head revealed him to be in some sort of tent. Several beds were laid side by side with a few people inside them, all seeming to be asleep.
"Good… you're awake."
Recovery Girl! The nurse of U.A. was filling out some paperwork at a makeshift desk. I must be in the medical tent. I woke up here last time I took the exam too.
"How are you feeling?" The hero slid her chair over to the bedside of the teen.
Midoriya clenched his toes, feeling no pain that would accompany a broken leg. "Fine," he said slowly sitting up.
"Good. My Quirk healed you up good but healing takes energy, so be careful going home." She popped a piece of candy out of a dispenser into Midoriya's hand. "You'll get your exam results in the mail in about a week."
"Right," nodded the teen. The results… I'm sure I passed the written exam no problem. As for the practical, I got 36 Villain points. I'll just have to see what they give me… As he remembered the grading system for the exam, he remembered a section from the video he got. "Recovery Girl!" he said, shooting up from his bed. "Do you think I could talk to one of the examiners, maybe Present Mic?"
"Why would you do that? Are you thinking about asking them to raise your score?" She asked quizzically, "Sorry, but it's not going to happen."
"No No No," Waved the teen. "I know they would never do that. It's just…"Midoriya looked down to the floor. "I wanted to ask about another examinee. The brown haired girl with the rosey cheeks."
Recovery simply stared at the teen, unsure what to make of his request. After a few seconds of mental deliberation while staring into Midoriya's eyes, She shrugged her shoulder. "You can probably find him inside the teacher's lounge, It's on the first floor."
A smile grew on his face and he bowed to the nurse in thanks. "Thank you!"
With those final words, he was out the door and Recovery Girl couldn't help but wonder about the young man She just met. Quite the interesting young man. He's just like Toshinori, Reckless and always ready to save people. She let out a sigh and turned back to her desk. And just like him, that kid is going to give me quite a few headaches.
Meanwhile, a tired Midoriya walked through the halls of U.A. in order to get to the teacher's lounge. Now it definitely feels like I'm cheating. He remembered the video of All Might and his test results. How Uraraka offered to give some of her points to him. If I offer to give some of my points to her, maybe she'll be given a few more rescue points. Not that she needs my help or anything, he thought. I… guess I'm just being a little selfish. It's been almost a year since I was thrown back into the past. I want all my friends by my side again.
As the teen continued to revel in his thoughts, he rounded the corner just before the teacher's lounge and bumped into someone.
"Oww." Midoriya rubbed his head, nursing the area that impacted with the other person. "Are you ok," he asked, not looking up.
"Yeah, I'm Ok."
The tone of the other person widened the boy's eyes and he looked up to see a familiar brown haired girl rubbing her head. Before the greenette could get over his surprise, Uraraka's eyes widened. "Oh it's you! Curly hair!"
That's the nickname she settled on, he thought with an internal chuckle. "It's nice to see you again. Thanks again for saving me." He bowed in thanks to his former friend.
The brunette smiled and returned the gesture, "No problem. It's the least I could do since you ran in and saved me." Uraraka stepped back and punched the air, "You blasted that big robot away with one attack. You're really strong."
A small blush grew from the praise and he rubbed the back of his neck, "haha thank you. Your Quirk is pretty amazing too. Speaking of which, I also wanted to thank you for saving me outside the school. I… Think my heart would have exploded from the embarrassment had I tripped."
"You're welcome. Though, I guess it really was a bad omen huh, considering that you ended up injuring yourself trying to save me." Uraraka looked the boy up and down, "Are you alright? You looked pretty beaten up before Recovery Girl healed you."
Midoriya nodded his head, "Don't worry." The teen bounced up and down in place. "My legs are all better thanks to Recovery Girls Quirk."
"Does your Quirk normally damage your body like that," questioned the girl.
He opened his mouth to answer but paused before he could say anything. I need to be careful about how I phrase this… "No," he answered. "I can't use 100 percent of my power without hurting myself, but I can control it at about five percent."
"Yeah, that's how you were bouncing around like a rabbit at the start of the test. And the way you ran in before everyone else, You'll make it into U.A. for sure."
The pure smile that accompanied those words made Midoriya smile. Eager to return the compliment, he said. "And you will too."
"You really think so," said the girl in surprise.
"Of course." I guess no harm could come from helping her confidence. "You saved me back at the testing site. How could a hero course ignore someone who risked themselves to save someone? Let's do our best to become great heroes."
The brown haired girl was taken aback, not only by the boy's reason but by his conviction in his words. A small tear formed in the corner of her eye but she quickly wiped it away. "Yes," nodding while pumping her fist. "Let's do our best."
Seeing his former friend's confident smile made the ten mothust of harsh training worth it. Uraraka flipped open her phone and checked the time, "it's getting pretty late. I have to get home. Want to walk back to the station together?"
While the idea was rather tempting, he remembered why he wanted to go to the teacher's lounge in the first place. "Sorry, I can't. There's… Something I need to do."
"Oh," She let out a dis hearted sigh. "It's alright. It was really nice to see you again."
"It was nice to see you again too." Midoriya turned and began to jog in the direction of the teacher's lounge. "Get home safe, Uraraka."
The two teens waved goodbye to each other and Uraraka made her way to the school gates, thinking about the green haired teen who had made quite the impression on her today. He seems like a nice guy. A bit quirky, but really nice… However, as her thoughts took form, a part of their conversation puzzled her. How did he know my name? Did I introduce myself…
"Attention, all examinees please begin to make your way home. All examinees, please begin to make your way home."
The clicking of the loudspeaker reminded the zero gravity user of the time and she increased her speed to make it home at a reasonable time, leaving her previous thoughts at the wayside.
One Week Later…
Today should be the day… Midoriya sat in the living room of his home eagerly awaiting the letter from U.A. The teen worked out his grip while scrolling through his phone. Compared to the events in the past, he was certain things turned out better than last time. However, a sense of 'what if' persisted in the back of his mind.
In order to get his mind off the anticipation, he refocused his attention back to his phone. To be more specific, back to the hero blog he had created ten months ago. When he began his training with All Might, Midoriya made the personal rule to keep his involvement in events to a minimum as to not jeopardize certain events or more people.
He made one exception to that rule… and it was the blog he created about the Shie Hassaikai. Right now Eri-chan is still being used by Chisaki for the experimental bullets. I can't go to the police or the Hero's about it for obvious reasons. So I need to get the hero's to act without sounding too crazy. That's why Midoriya created this blog. It's a hero's job to protect and make sure the public feels safe. A part of that is listening to the concerns of the public, be it online or on the streets. It's not uncommon for investigations to start from rumors posted online. It took time and several fake accounts to get the page to a sizable amount, but now the blog had well over a few thousand people talking about suspicious villain sightings. I really hope this is enough, Midoriya thought.
The teen grabbed his dumbbell and began to do curls while he laid his head back on the couch. "The results for the test should be here today or tomorrow, right?" Inko Midoriya asked from behind the couch.
The teen looked over to his mom and nodded, "Yeah."
"You… don't seem nervous Izuku."
"I-i just did the best that I could," he answered. "I hope it was enough."
"Well, Your dear old mom thinks it's wonderful that you even tried," She smiled.
Midoriya returned the smile, "Thanks Mom."
The older Midorya walked out the room leaving the teen to his thoughts. Honestly, Midoriya felt bad lying to his mom, not only about One for All, but also about the past. He tried his best to hide the obvious shift in his personality as best he could, but he wondered how long he would be able to truly hide the truth.
"Izuku!" The shout of his mother drew the teens attention. He quickly sat down his dumbbell to meet his mother who burst through the door with an envelope in hand. "The letter it's here. It's really here." In his mother's hand was a letter marked with a red wax seal of the U.A. logo.
Midoriya took the letter and looked it over. This is it, He thought to himself. "Mom, I'm going to open it in my room. Is that Ok?"
"Of course sweetie."
With no other words, Midoriya went to his room to open the letter while his mother paced nervously in front of the door. Unlike last time, he carefully opened the top of the envelope setting the projection device down and placing the letter to the side.
Once sat down, the device booted up and projected the heroic face of All Might on a screen.
"I am here as a projection," said the large hero. "Apologies! It's been a while, Young Man. There's been much to deliberate on. But I'm in this town for one reason only. I've come to teach at U.A."
I remember when that was a big surprise to me. Midoriya chuckled to himself as All Might talked to someone, who he assumed now to be the principal, off camera.
"Alright, let's not waste anymore time," said the pro. "I'm pleased to say you passed the written exam with flying colors. Achieving a perfect score amongst all the other Applicants. Great work."
This was a surprise to Midoriya. He knew he would have done a lot better on the written exam, but achieving a perfect score was a surprise. One of the benefits of time travel I guess…
"However," All Might continued. "You only achieved 36 villain points. Unfortunately, that isn't enough to pass the practical exam." All Might paused for a second before shaking his head, "But that's not the end of the story!" The camera panned over to display a TV screen. "Let me entertain you! Please watch this!"
With the flick of his remote, All Might changed the screen to display a familiar video. "Um, Excuse me, but…" Uraraka was standing outside of the teacher's lounge speaking to Present Mic.
"She came to see us right after the exam! Why may you ask? Stay tuned!"
"Um, that curly haired boy with freckles. You know the one…? He looks really plain looking."
Midoriya chuckled a bit at her description of him, but continued to listen. "Can you give him some of my points?! After he kicked that giant robot, his legs were all broken. He injured himself, he risked his own well being to save me. Please, At least however many points he gave up trying to save me."
Tears began to form in the corner of Midoriya's eyes. "You've acquired your Quirk and moved others with your action," said All Might.
Uraraka bowed her head, "Please, That boy… he saved my life!"
Present Mic patted the girl's head with a smile. "I'm afraid not. I can't give him your points… But there shouldn't be a need for it, my little listener."
The video cut out and panned back over to All Might who crossed his arms. "This exam you see, we weren't just watching out for Villain based points! You said it yourself, right?"
The TV turned back on and showed him and Uraraka standing in the hallway, "How could a hero course ignore someone who risked themselves to save someone," Midoriya's smile grew wider at seeing the video.
"Think this job is all about the cameras and fame!? Think what you want! In this job, you risk your life and put your money where your mouth is! Rescue Points were also given by a panel of judges as another way for U.A. to evaluate you! 48 points for Ochaco Uraraka! And for you, Izuku Midoriya 64 rescue points! Combined with your Villain points, That's 100 Points! Congratulations on achieving the top score!" More tears began to well up as the video showed All Might reaching out his hand, "Come now, Midoriya! This will be your Hero Academia!"
The video concluded and the projection shut itself off as Midoriya smiled with glee. "YEEAAAHHHH!" The teen screamed in joy that he had made it back into his hero academia.
"Izuku honey!" Inko came bursting through the door, no doubt startled by her son's scream. "Is everything alright!?" The teen said nothing as he turned around to his mom. His triumphant smile told her everything she needed to know and tears came bursting out of her eyes, "My Baby boy! I'm so proud of you!"
"Thanks Mom," Midoriya hugged his mom as she cried and discussed plans to celebrate with katsudon for dinner.
Meanwhile…
Uraraka sat nervously at her desk, staring at the envelope marked with U.A.'s emblem. Ok Ochaco, no need to be nervous… It's just that everything you hope to do for your family all rides on what's in this envelope. She let out a nervous chuckle in an attempt to make herself feel better. Gritting her teeth, the brunette ripped open the envelope to pull out the metal projector disc. The screen came to life and displayed All Might in all his heroic glory "I am here on a projection!"
"All Might!" Uraraka looked back and forth at the envelope in surprise. "Why is All Might in my letter from you U.A."
"You may be wondering why I am in your letter from U.A. Will it's because starting this year I will be teaching at U.A." The hero let out one of his hearty laughs.
Her eyes grew wider, All Might is going to teach at U.A.!
"Now, let's get to the point of this letter. Ochaco Uraraka, you did well and passed the written exam. However, on the practical exam, you only managed 28 villain points, not enough to pass alone."
Uraraka turned her gaze to the floor as tears began to form in her eyes, I knew it…. I'm sorry mom and dad, I wasn't good enough.
"However, that's not the end!" She picked her head up as All Might stood next to a monitor. "Allow me to entertain you! Please watch the screen!"
Curiously, she watched as a familiar green head of hair appeared. "Sorry to intrude," bowed the teen.
It's the nice boy from before! She thought.
"Curious!? This young man came to see us after the exam. Why, Let's see!"
It was easy to notice the similarities and her eyes widened. Is he…
Present Mic greeted the teen at the door, "What can I do for you little listener?"
"Um…. I was wondering if you could give some of my points to other examinee. The girl with brown hair, round face and rosy cheeks."
He's talking about me! Uraraka starred in surprise at the stranger on screen.
Present Mic raised his eyebrow, definitely surprised by the fact two separate people came to ask the same thing. "It's just," continued the boy. "She saved my life during the test. When I jumped in to smash that robot, I wasn't sure how I was going to land, but that girl saved me with her Quirk. Even after she injured herself…" The teen's eyes had a fire in them and Uraraka was taken aback, "She risked her own well being to save my life. Isn't that what a hero is supposed to do."
The video stopped and All Might looked back at the camera, "He's right, you know. How could a hero course who ignores such an act of Heroism!" As All Might smiled, Uraraka began to cry tears of joy, "Alongside the villain points, applicants were awarded Rescue points! Ochaco Uraraka, 48 rescue points. Rounding out your total to 76 points!" The young girl was now full blown crying, tears of joy streaming down her face. "Congratulations young lady, welcome to your Hero Academia!"
The following day after I received my letter from U.A., All Might messaged me to come to the beach...
"ALL MIGHT!" An enthusiastic Midoriya ran up to the beach waving his arms to his master.
The skeleton of All Might coughed up some blood, "Who's that!?"
Quickly realising what he said, the teen quickly shouted, "Sorry just my eyes playing tricks on me." Looking over to the now pristine dock, the couple that was there quickly turned away after they realized there was no All Might. I'm glad people are coming back to the beach, he thought offhand.
"Nice save," commented All Might. "Congrats on not only passing, but taking the top score too. You showed everyone what you're made of." He reached out his hand and the teen slapped it with a smile. "And don't think I did you any favors. I wasn't a judge and I haven't told the school about our relationship."
"Thank you All Might."
"That being said I was surprised to see you offer up your points for that other girl." The man cocked a joking smile at his protege. "Has that girl caught your eye or something."
Midoriya's face suddenly lit up to match the redness of a tomato. "N-No no no, it's not like that. I-it's just she saved me after I beat that giant robot and I mean it's like I said it's a heroes' job to save others and she did just that so I thought she deserves to be in the hero course so I just wanted to make sure she passed and-"
"Ok ok, geez kid. Don't blow a fuse," All Might waved his hands to calm the teen down.
"Getting back to the exam for a moment. You really surprised me, being able to control One for All like that."
Having calmed down, Midoriya looked down at his hands. "I wouldn't say I can control it." With a surge of energy, he activated the Quirk. "I can safely use about five percent of One for All with Full Cowling. When I use 100 percent, I break my body."
"Still, you found a way to circumvent the recoil of One for All with this 'Full Cowling' so quickly. That in and of itself is quite impressive. How did you come up with it?"
"I- uh… Just imagined my body was an egg in a microwave," he chuckled nervously.
"So plain. But Unique," All Might threw his head back while spitting up blood.
"As long as it works." Midoriya placed his fingers on his chin. Imagining the metaphor he often associated with the quirks activation. "When I kicked the zero pointer I had the power turned up to 100 percent and just in a single leg. For Full Cowling, that heat coursed through my whole body at a much lower power so the egg doesn't explode. I just wish I could put out more power." He still hadn't had the chance to fully test his limits yet, so five percent was all he could safely use for now.
The pro hero couldn't help but look at the kid surprised. He's only had the Quirk for a day and he's already cultivating it into something unique. This kid is something else. "There's no rush young Midoriya, what you've already achieved is quite incredible." All Might reached down and grabbed two loose gas cans from the sand. "The more you temper your vessel… the better you can control the power. Like this!" All Might buffed up into his muscle form and crushed the cans in his hand. Young Midoriya, the flame I passed to you is small. For now it burns weakly inside you, but the coming tests and trails will fan it.
Midoriya waved his hands, "Wait All Might! Change back into you're normal form before-"
"Whoa. ALL MIGHT!? Where'd he come from!?"
He grimaced as the couple on the dock looked over in the two's direction. "Crap! Run young Midoriya."
"Right behind you All Might." With Full Cowling still activated, Midoriya kept pace with the large hero as they ran off the beach.
"We should call it a day," All Might said as he ran. "Classes won't begin till the first of April so try to relax until then. Don't completely slack off on your training, but take this time to rest. You work hard those ten months and have earned a break."
"Yes sir," nodded the teen.
"Alright. Now… Here I am, making an exit!" Leaping up into the sky All Might thought of his protege. Yes… My own flame will slowly wither and die now. My duty is fulfilled!
When I got home from the beach that night, All might let me know that he would be out of contact for a while. He said he would be busy since the news of him coming to work at U.A. was now public and that he had lots to do before school started. I wished him luck and told him not to worry, since I would be doing some training of my own…
Sunday Morning…
Midoriya stared at the morning sunrise while listening to the soft crashing of waves. The sand of Takoba Municipal Beach Park shifted slightly as he walked down the shore. Due to the time, very few people were present, but a few were running or cycling by on top of the sea wall. Now that the trash is gone, more and more people are showing up. This did cause the teen to smile before returning his gaze to the sea.
I know All Might said to take it easy over the next few weeks, but I can't stand around idly when I need to get stronger. With his place in U.A. now secured, Midoriya began to think of a way to achieve some of his long term goals. Of course the main one was taking down the League of Villains and Shigaraki. He had a plan to achieve this, but it required him to get as strong as possible as quickly as possible. The USJ, he thought as he looked at the rising sun. I know what day the villains will attack the school. If Shigaraki could be captured during the attack, then everything with the League would fall apart. The idea itself was good, but there were still other variables involved, like Nomu and Kurogiri, but it was something.
The alarm on his phone went off and he looked at the time. They should be open soon. Better get to the station. Adjusting the bag he had over his shoulder, the teen made his way towards the nearest station while his thoughts lingered on Shigaraki. When I saw him inside the vestige world along with All for One, I felt the deepest parts of his heart… It filled the teen with a sort of melancholic sorrow to think of those moments during the battle. A crying child… someone alone and afraid… someone asking, begging to be saved… Whatever happened to Shigaraki in his past, it's what's fueling him now. And All for One is using that to manipulate him so he can take over Shigaraki's body. Midoriya leaned his head back against the seat of the train. I'm still not sure WHAT I can do for Shigaraki… He's killed countless people and destroyed the lives of many more, I can't forgive him for that… but I can still try and break him free from All for One's grasp. He's a victim too. No matter what he's done.
For the next couple of minutes, Midoriya remained in thought until the train reached the stop he had hoped. Making his way out of the station, he looked at his phone's map to make his way to the location he had looked up. After several minutes of walking down unfamiliar streets, he finally came across the place he was looking for.
The Battle Fist Dojo…
Standing before the young man was a very large compound surrounded by thick forest. On the outside, the dojo's looks matched what you may expect an older dojo to look like. The tall gate of the dojo seemed to accommodate people with size Quirks with a smaller door off to the side. Surrounding the dojo was a large wall reaching nearly as high as the gate itself. The exterior seemed to be in nice condition, despite the supposed age of the old fashioned dojo. This is the closest place I can train while I wait to get into U.A. Yesterday, Midoriya had the idea to train at the beach so he could better his control of One for All. However, when he activated One for All and began to kick up the sand, A pro happened to spot him. This earned him a mouthful about using his Quirk in public and how someone could have gotten hurt. With the beach no longer an option, Midoriya had to find an alternate place to train and fortunately, this dojo was the best place to do so.The website says that this place authorizes the use of Quirks to help people train to become heroes. I'll be able to train with One for All here and I may learn something new too.
Steeling his nerves, he walked up the steps of the dojo and rang the doorbell by the smaller door. After a few seconds of waiting, the door cracked open to reveal an older woman. "Hello," she greeted politely. "I take it your Izuku Midoriya?" Her dark brown hair was done up in a messy bun. Her teal eyes seemed to be magnified by the black blouse and jeans she was wearing.
"Y-yes," nodded the teen. "I'm Izuku Midoriya. I'm pleased to meet you. Are you an instructor?"
"You're a polite one," chuckled the women. "And no, that would be my husband. He's training with our daughter right now. Come in and I'll show you around." Midoriya bowed his head politely and stepped into the dojo. As he was led through the compound he took notice of not only the indoor training rooms, likely still used to practice traditional martial arts, but the large open area just off the path they were taking. "We use that area as a training field for when people wish to train their Quirks, It can get pretty messy doing that kind of thing inside."
Makes sense, thought the teen. The two continued to walk until they came across a building marked 'Great Battle Hall'. Inside they could hear the shouting of at least two people, a man and a woman. As they approached the building, a thought, which had persisted since he found the dojo online, came to mind. Battle Fist… It's been bothering me for a while, but why does that name sound so familiar.
The older woman slid the screen door open, "Honey, the one who called the other day is here."
In the center of the room was a large muscular man dressed in a white karate gi. The man's frame was close to All Might in his muscular form. He ran a hand through his short ginger hair which matched his scruffy beard. "Ah, Welcome," he greeted politely. "Welcome to the Battle Fist Dojo. Itsuka, say hi to our newest student."
As the girl turned to look at him, Midoriya's eyes widened as a familiar face looked at him. "KENDO," he shouted in surprise.
The room quickly went silent at the teens outburst and the teenage girl raised her eyebrow in mild suspicion. "Have we met before?"
With a bit of panic in his voice, Midoriya thought quickly of a cover story. "No no no, it's just I remember your face from the entrance exam at U.A. My name is Izuku Midoriya, it's nice to meet you." He chuckled nervously as he bowed politely to the girl. Please believe me, please believe me, please believe me.
The suspicious tone Kendo used changed into one of surprise. "Izuku Midoriya as in the Izuku Midoriya that scored 100 points and first place on the exam. That Izuku Midoriya?"
He blushed at the proud declaration of his feats and nodded his head. "Y-yes. That's me."
Letting out a hearty laugh, the muscular man smiled ear to ear. "Sounds like we got the promising young hero joining us today, so let's get the ball rolling. Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Fusen Kendo. This is my wife, Ichika. And you seem to be familiar with our daughter, Itsuka."
The two girls politely and Midoriya returned the gesture. "It's nice to meet you. Thank you for having me."
"Alright, Let's have a change of scenery so we can discuss the details about why you're here."
The head of the Kendo family led everyone outside while Midoriya thought to himself. I really hope they don't pry more as to how I knew Kendo's name. I was just so surprised to see her. He looked to his left at the redhead who didn't seem to notice his gaze. Now that I think about it, I really don't know much about her do I. Out of 1-B, she was one of the few that never did take the rivalry too seriously, at least compared to Monoma. She seems nice enough and she lead her team really well during the joint combat training.
"This is a good spot." Snapping back to reality, Midoriya saw that they were standing near one of the training fields he had passed on his way in. "Let's get down to business. First, If you're going to be a student of this dojo, you call me Master Fusen or just Master. Understood?"
"Y-yes, sir- I mean Master," corrected the teen nervously.
"Don't be scared of my dad," commented Kendo. "He's just acting all tough to look scary."
Ichicka chuckled while Fusen glared at his daughter, "Itsuka, why you gotta beat your old man down like that."
"Cause otherwise, your Quirk will start inflating your head rather than your muscles."
"Um actually before we start talking about why I'm here." The family looked over Midoriya who opened the bag he was carrying. After digging for a moment, he pulled out one of his hero notebooks, "Could you sign my notebook Muscle Balloon Sir- I mean Master."
It took a second for the man to process the request, but his face lit up as soon as he did. "Of course! I'm flattered that a kid like you remembers an old-timer like me," he said, taking the notebook.
"Are you kidding?! You were an amazing pro. Your Quirk, Inflation, has so many uses for both defense and offense. When you fought against the Dead Breath gang, you used your Quirk…"
The green Haired teen went on about the various feets of the man in front of him while said man smiled and laughed. Meanwhile, Kendo was off to the side letting out a sigh, "Great, Now I'm not going to hear the end of this."
Ichika chuckled, "At least he seems really enthusiastic."
"Dad or Midoriya?"
"Both, I suppose. Midoriya strikes me as the nervous and skittish type."
Kendo crossed her arms, "From what I heard from one of my friends who was at the same test site as him, he smashed that giant zero pointer in one shot. People with strong quirks tend to be a little hot headed."
"I guess we'll see."
The two girls turned back to the conversation and Fusen scratched the back of his head with a big smile. "I'm glad to see SOMEONE from the younger generation recognizes my glory days," his words were aimed at his daughter who rolled her eyes in response. "As much as I like hearing about my former victories, Let's get back to why you're here." With a swift motion, the older man signed the notebook and handed it back to Midoriya. "From what my daughter said, you've already made it into U.A. so you haven't come here to train for the entrance exam."
"I heard you smashed the zero pointer with one kick," commented Kendo.
Midoriya scratched his head and wondered if there would be a lot of gossip about him. "It's more complicated than that." The Kendo family threw up their eyebrows at his phrasing so he continued, "When I used my Quirk against the zero pointer, I used 100 percent of my power and completely shattered my legs from the recoil. At best, I can control about five percent of my Quirk with no issues."
"That's quite a strange Quirk," Ichika added. "What kind of Quirk do you have?"
"Just a regular strength amplifying quirk," lied the teen.
The older man scratched his chin, "So you came here to try and train yourself to handle your Quirks full power before you get into U.A?"
"Umm… Actually no. I know I won't be able to get to that level in time. I… Just want to get as strong as I can."
Eyebrow still raised, Kendo asked, "so if you're just looking for a place to train, why come here? You can train just about anywhere else."
"I actually use to train at Takoba Municipal Beach Park for the past several months, but when I went to train there with my Quirk yesterday I got in trouble with a Hero since I was using my Quirk in public without permission and I didn't want to do anything that might get me in trouble so I looked for a place that trained Quirks and your dojo was…"
The teen's words degraded into sheer mumbling. The family looked questionably at the teen as he spoke to himself rather than to them. After a few seconds of the teen not realizing what he was doing, Fusen snapped his fingers in the teen's face, "Midoriya."
He snapped back to see the three staring at him. Blushing, He rubbed the back of his head, "Sorry, it's a habit I have. I tend to ramble sometimes when I start to think a lot."
"No worries," the man said. "However, I want to ask you something Midoriya and I want you to answer me honestly."
The shift in the man's tone caused both Kendo and Midoriya to straighten, "Y-yes Master…"
"You said you trained at Takoba Municipal Beach Park the past several moths," the teen nodded and Fusen continued. "Were you the one who cleaned it up?"
Kendo blinked at her father's question and she turned to Midoriya, who seemed to share the same sense of confusion. "I...yes," stuttered out the teen. "It was part of my training to control my Quirk."
All three of them widened their eyes and silence hung in the air for several seconds. To Midoriya's surprise, the silence was stopped by Fusen collapsing to his hands and knees. Before the teen could speak any words, he heard a few soft whimpers come from Ichika and it made him only more confused.
"Thank you, Midoriya," she said.
"Mom, Dad, What are you two getting so emotional for?!" asked Kendo.
"That beach… It's really special to me and your mother, Itsuka." Fusen wiped a small tear from the corner of his eye. "It's where I took your mother on our first date. It's also where I proposed to her."
Both teens looked surprised at this fact and Ichika nodded, "He's right, That beach used to be so beautiful until people started dumping their trash there, turning it into a junkyard."
"No matter how much I complained to the city, they or any other pro would do nothing about it. Saying there was always some villain to clean up after. When me and Ichika saw in the papers that it had been cleaned up, we could hardly believe it."
While Midoriya was panicking at the reaction of the older couple, Kendo looked at him in surprise. He cleaned that whole beach by himself. Even If he was just training his muscles to improve his Quirk, he could have gone to some old gym. Instead, he cleaned up a whole beach… Kendo thought back to the comment she had made a minute ago about people with strong Quirks being a bit hot-headed. Maybe I've got the wrong impression of him. Maybe he's not actually that bad…
"Alright, it's decided." Kendo snapped out of her thoughts as her dad picked himself off the ground. "Midoriya, you're a welcomed guest of this dojo. No need to pay the student fee or anything. Come by anytime you wish to train. Our doors are always open to you."
Midoriya was taken aback by the generous offer, "Are you sure S-Master? I can pay the fee for the month-"
"No, I insist," smiled the man. "Consider it a token of thanks for restoring a place so special to me and my wife."
Ichika nodded her head, "Thank you, Midoriya."
As the young teen looked at the smiling older couple, he couldn't bring himself to reject such a kind offer. "T-thank you very much! I look forward to learning from you!"
"Are you ready to train right now Midoriya?"
"Yes master," nodded the teen enthusiastically.
"Great, then let's get to work!" The older man looked over to his daughter, "Kendo, get changed out of your gi and into something for the training field. If you and Midoyra are going to be classmates, it might do you some good to get some sparring in."
While she wanted to refute her father's idea to train, she knew that he had some logic. And, her competitive side wondered how well she stood against the person who earned the top score on the entrance exam. "Alright , she nodded. "Let me get changed."
Fusen nodded as his daughter walked in the direction of her room. "Alright Midoriya, time to go Plus Ultra! You better get ready."
Swallowing a lump in his throat, Midoriya placed his bag down, "I'm ready."
CHAPTER THREE: END
Author's notes:
So happy this chapter didn't take me five months to put out, instead only just a month and after this, we finally start U.A. as for the stuff covered in this chapter, it's a good mix of stuff in the original story and original stuff, like the bit with Uraraka outside the teacher lounge and the bit at Kendo's dojo. An idea that came about from having Midoriya train during the month after the test before he starts U.A.
And in case you're wondering, kendo's dad is named fusen, which is the japanese word for balloon. I like to believe it where the size change of Kendo's quirk comes from. As for her mother's Quirk… it really doesn't matter at the current moment. As for why I introduced Kendo now, I just wanted to introduce more of the charter's and have them spend time with Midoriya.
And as for the events of timeline, this is the Unofficial timeline I am using and thanks to Aideyn on tumblr: post/169372794050/bnha-timeline
