Anna pushed her way through the crowded ballroom, Hans right behind her holding her hand, making her way towards Elsa. They got Elsa's attention, and Elsa stepped down from her platform to see what was going on.
"Queen Elsa of Arendelle, may I present Prince Hans of the Southern Isles," Anna said.
"Your Majesty," Hans said, bowing.
"A pleasure," Elsa said with a slight curtsy, but the worry was evident on her face. "And what, may I ask, are you doing with my sister?"
"We wish to be married," Anna said. "We ask for your blessing."
Elsa's eyes widened. "Married?"
"Well, we haven't worked out all the details yet, but - "
"No one is getting married," Elsa said firmly.
"What?" Anna said.
"Anna," Elsa said softly, "may I speak with you, please? Alone?"
"No," Anna said, grasping Hans' hand tightly. It felt good for her to say no to Elsa for once. "Whatever you have to say, you can say to both of us."
"Fine," said Elsa, composing herself. "You can't marry a man you just met."
"You can if it's true love!" Anna retorted.
"Anna, what do you know about true love?" Elsa asked.
"More than you," Anna said. "All you know is how to shut people out!" Several people gasped, but Anna didn't care. Let them know what their queen is really like.
"You ask for my blessing, but my answer is no," Elsa said, turning to leave the room.
"Your Majesty, if I may - " Hans interjected.
"No, you may not," Elsa said. "The party's over. Close the gates."
"WHAT?!" Anna shouted. "No! You can't do that!"
"Yes I can," Elsa said.
"Wait!" Anna said. She pulled off Elsa's glove, and Elsa stared at her, horrified.
"Give me back my glove," she said.
"Not until you give me some answers," Anna said. "You're treating me like a child! I bet you just want Hans for yourself, don't you? You can't stand the fact that I found true love and you're all alone! You just want to make everyone else as miserable as you are!"
"Enough, Anna," Elsa said. She was on the verge of tears now, but she tried hard to hide it.
"No, why?" Anna continued, her voice rising with every word. "Why do you shut me out? Why do you shut the world out? WHAT ARE YOU SO AFRAID OF?!"
"I said, ENOUGH!"
Elsa waved her bare hand, and a thick wall of icicles shot out of the floor. It was impossible to say who was more shocked and horrified: Elsa or everyone else. Anna looked up from the icicles, which had nearly impaled her and several other guests, to Elsa, and suddenly she had an answer - and a million more questions.
But before Anna could ask any of those questions, before she could process this enormous revelation, Elsa had run out of the ballroom, closing the door behind her. She ran out into the courtyard, accidentally exposing her powers to a horrified populace. Not knowing what else to do, she stepped out onto the fjord, discovered that she could turn it to ice with her feet, and ran across it, off into the wilderness.
Anna, meanwhile, chased after Elsa as far as she could, with Hans trailing behind her. She finally stopped at the edge of the fjord, still grasping Elsa's glove.
"The fjord," Anna whispered. "It's completely frozen."
Anna and Hans looked out at the ships falling into the cracking ice. Hans, and all the other dignitaries who had come to Arendelle for the coronation, were now trapped. No one could get in or out.
With nothing else to do, Anna and Hans went back to the courtyard to survey the damage. Sure enough, there was snow and ice everywhere. Even the air was colder. People were confused and terrified. Anna could see her own breath. She shivered and hugged herself to keep warm.
"Did you know?" Hans asked.
"No," Anna said.
"You!" the Duke of Weselton shouted to Anna, hiding behind his guards. "Is there sorcery in you too? Are you a monster too?"
"No," Anna said defensively. "I'm completely ordinary!"
"That's right, she is," Hans said, wrapping his arm around Anna's shoulder. "In the best possible way," he added quickly.
"Queen Elsa is a monster!" the Duke declared. "She nearly killed me!"
"You slipped on ice," Hans said.
"Her ice!"
"Queen Elsa may be a monster," Anna said. "But now that she's gone, I'm in charge of Arendelle. And the first thing I have to do is end this winter. So I'm going after her." She turned to a servant. "Bring me my horse and my winter cloak."
"What?!" Hans said. "Are you sure that's a good idea?"
"Well, someone has to be responsible for this kingdom," Anna said.
"I'll go with you," Hans said.
"No," Anna said. "I need you to take care of Arendelle." She got up on the horse a servant brought for her and threw on her cloak. "I leave Prince Hans in charge," she announced.
"Anna," Hans said gently. "I just don't want you getting hurt."
"I've already been hurt," Anna said. "There's nothing more Elsa can do to me now."
