Chapter 3
Tyler let out a groan, as light assaulted his eyes he moved his arm to shield his face and realized it. Hurt. To. Move.
"Oww" it came out in a hoarse. What part of him didn't hurt?
"Hey he's finally coming to" a voice said. He heard several pairs of feet rush toward him.
Cracking open his eyes it took a moment for things to come into focus, when it did he found the faces of five strangers staring back at him.
"Ahh" he pushed himself further back on the bed.
"Hey calm down" a blond girl with bright kind blue eyes comforted coming to sit on the bed next to him. She appeared to be about seventeen, with bright blond hair so light colored that it almost appeared platinum, she wore a long green dress and crystal blue eyes shone so full of genuine care that her presence seemed to comfort him slightly. "Your safe darling, we're good guys your far away the bad ones"
"Who are you?" he asked looking around at the five teenagers.
A man with a straight no-nonsense face stepped forward; he appeared to be about eighteen, with brown hair and a long scar running nearly across one of his green eyes. "We're Skyrunners"
Tyler's mouth fell open. Skyrunners? Like him?!
"Did you really think you were the only one?" a boy next to him asked. He was African American and appeared to be about sixteen, he had long dark curls and had kind deep brown eyes. The teen wore a simple black shirt with a simple green overshirt.
"Well..yeah"
The boy let out a snicker. "Well obviously you're not. If you know what the term Skyrunner is then obviously you've heard it before" the boy shook his head. "Didn't you think that if there was already a name, for kids who gain this type of power that there was a possibility you weren't the first?"
Tyler frowned, he'd never thought about it. With everything that had happened he really hadn't had the time. But..what he said made sense.
"So..you guys found UFO's too?"
"They found us," the serious boy answered.
Tyler looked down at the blanket covering him, thinking back to that night on the road. It felt like the UFO had come to them.
"Look kid" the quiet girl dressed in camo near the back, broke in. "This is much bigger than you could possibly think"
"Each of us came from different places" the serious kid started speaking. "But we're all connected by the fact that we are skyrunners, it is this that binds us. We're a united front with one gaol: to save the world."
"But I already did that" Tyler cut in. "I blew up their hideout I stopped their operation"
The serious kid laughed. "You think they only had one hideout? We've destroyed many hideouts. They have operations all across the world. No, kid you haven't seen the last of them"
"My family!" Tyler shot forward. "I have to warn them!"
The serious kid shook his head. "They won't hurt them, I sent Ray down to check on your family..the Burns wasn't it?"
Tyler nodded.
"You had your school ID on you," the serious kid explained. "Anyway, they're worried about you and the police are looking for you but the agents are leaving your family alone. If anything they're only waiting around to see if you'll turn up. Your brother's not a skywalker, neither's your Mom so I think they're safe. Honestly, I hate to say it but they'd be in more danger if you returned."
"Dude" the kid in the green jacked interjected.
"I call it like it is, Pierce" the serious kid held up his hands.
"You could be a little more sympathetic Ron," the blond girl frowned.
"I'm sorry Paula but you know I'm blunt. Remember it was the same story with me, with you with all of us"
"So none of you have been able to go home?" Tyler frowned.
"No" Ron sighed.
"What did you do?"
"Ron was the first Skyrunner," Paula smiled. "He was fifteen when he found the UFO outside his family farm."
"I found the work of the aliens in the hills just a few miles away" he frowned. "No one believed me but I had to do something. I went on the run when the agency threatened my family after I blew up their operation."
"I'm so sorry" Tyler frowned.
He spent the next few hours getting to know Ron, Pierce, Ray, Paula , and Steve. He listened to each of their stories and heard how they had all become Skyrunners. He'd felt so alone with everything going on it was strangely comforting to know he wasn't the only one, though he wouldn't have wished this fate on anyone. It saddened his heart that they had all been forced to leave their homes. It broke his heart further to know he needed to leave his. Ron was right, he would only bring danger to his family by returning.
He listened to stories about how they'd been traveling around the world and fighting to save it. It surprised him to hear that your body didn't age until you reached the age you portrayed to be. Ron, the leader, had been fighting the alien operations for three years. He didn't start ageing until he reached the age of seventeen, the age he was portrayed to be, since becoming a skyrunner.
Although he knew he'd miss his brother and Mother terribly, he knew that by joining the Skyrunner's he was making the right choice. After all he'd been given the powers of a superhero, he felt the responsibility to use them to fight the evil he knew existed.
He was Tyler Burns, he would keep his family safe.
He was a Skyrunner.
The title of the movie is 'Skyrunners', 'ers' as in plural and yet Tyler is the only skyrunner? I'm sorry that was a plot hole that really bothered me.
I know a little OC with Tyler there, sorry I don't know him all that well. I'm taking a few creative liberties here.
