Questions To Ask Yourself
The next day, in Miss. Darbus's homeroom class, she was giving a speech on the musical. "I'm quite inspired that all of you will be staring in the spring musicale!" She exclaimed. "Rehearsals are the same time as usual."
Ryan was super excited for the musical. Maybe Julliard would see how talented he was and they would have to have him at their school. It's a full proof plan. Just go out there on performance night and kill it.
At lunch, he knew for sure Sharpay was going to talk his ear off about how Julliard is going to pick "both" of them (they're twins!) but she was talking about something else. "So, Zeke is taking me to prom and all, but I need a super hot dress to out dress all the girls. Taylor, Martha, Kelsi, but most of all, little miss perfect Gabriella Montez."
"I can't believe you're more worried about out dressing everybody when you have Zeke as your prom date." Ryan told his sister. "He's such a good boyfriend, and you're worried about out dressing the other girls."
"That's why prom was invented Ry." Sharpay argued. "It's just a fashion contest, but with dates and awkward slow dances." She turned to her brother. "Make sure your date doesn't pick a better prom dress than me, ok?"
Ryan sighed loudly. He didn't get to pick a prom date, Sharpay forced Kelsi on him. It's not that he doesn't like her, he does, but as a friend really. He honestly would rather be Zeke's prom date, but clearly, that wasn't an option. "I'm only Kelsi's prom date because you still have beef with Troy and Gabriella." He pointed out.
Sharpay scoffed and sat down. "I'm chasing my dreams. Troy and Gabriella are chasing each other." She smiled. "But I'm sure you like Kelsi. I did you favor."
"Well newsflash Shar, I don't. I mean, I do, but as a friend." Ryan stood up. "I didn't even get to pick a prom date because you always get what you want and I'm stuck going with it."
Sharpay was baffled by Ryan's newfound courage. "Well, who would you have chosen? I can probably hook you two up and get Kelsi a new date on the DL." She offered.
Ryan cannot tell Sharpay the truth. She'll kill him! "I don't know." He lied. "I'm just kind of angry you chose my prom date just like you have been choosing everything for me ever since we were little." He admitted.
"Ry, I'm not dumb." Sharpay informed him. "You'd rather be going with a boy, huh?"
Ryan's heart dropped. How did she know? Is it that Twintuition thing Sharpay always claimed she had, or is it just obvious? Might as well just lie again. "What? No! I would never do that."
Sharpay smirked. She found it a challenge. "Is it Troy Bolton?"
"No Shar." Ryan answered. "I'm not going to prom with a b-"
"Is it Chad Danforth?"
"No." Ryan replied. "Are you just gonna keep doing this until I-"
"Jason Cross?! Liam Green?! James Garza?!" Sharpay shouted.
Now you're not even trying. Ryan thought to himself. "Sharpay, I don't want to go to prom with a boy because I'm a boy and going to prom with a boy would be like, 'oh boy', so I'll go with Kelsi. Now if you'd ex-"
"Is it Zeke Baylor?!" Sharpay blurted out.
Oh fudge. This might not end well... but Ryan must still keep his cool. "W-why would I want to go to prom with your boyfriend? That would be wrong of me." His stomach tightened at admitting that.
"Because you always seem interested in him." Sharpay said. "You're always like, 'How's Zeke?' or, 'Wow he bakes good!' or, 'Zeke is good at making three pointers.' What is a three pointer anyway?!"
Ryan cleared his throat. "It's when you make a shot past the three point line."
Sharpay rolled her eyes. "Not my point Ry. I'm saying you have a crush on Zeke."
"No I don't!" Ryan lied again. "He's your boyfriend, so It's basically illegal for me to like him Shar." He looked at the clock. "I promised Kelsi I'd meet her in the band room. I got to go." He got up and left the cafeteria.
On his way to the band room, he asked himself a question, "Why do I like Zeke?" First of all, Zeke was always that kid who was taller than everybody in an adorable way. He always looked out for his friends and never bullied anyone. He has this hot smile that he is always smiling even when he's sad or hurt. He's a gentle man, and he's romantic without even realizing it. He's funny, sweet, and cute... plus, he bakes. Really good too. Not to mention how he-
Crud.
That's a lot of reasons to like Zeke Baylor.
Ryan tries not to feel anything for Zeke, but It's hard. He remembered when he made his first move to talk to Zeke back when they were Juniors. After Zeke offered Sharpay chocolate chip cookies, (which she said ew to) Ryan took them and said, 'Good game!' Zeke said, 'Thanks.' and touched Ryan's arm. Even though he only touched him for like, half second, that small touch of the arm, and the way he brushed Zeke's hand while taking the cookies left him thirsting for more.
Yep, defiantly starting to feel something.
Well, the point is, Zeke is Sharpay's boyfriend. Ryan doesn't like him and that is that.
Right?
Later...
When Ryan was getting his stuff out his locker to go home, Zeke noticed him. "Oh hi Ryan!" He said with a wave.
Ryan's heart beat sped up to 200. Ok Ryan, Keep your cool. Keep your cool... "Hey Zeke! If you're looking for Sharpay, she's staying late to talk to miss. D about something." So far so good...
"Oh actually, I wanted to talk to you." Zeke said.
"R-really?!" Ryan stuttered as his heart rate turned into 300.
"Yeah." Zeke replied. "I wanted to give you this." He reached into his bag and pulled out a cook book. "I wanted to give this to you so you could practice baking when I start to teach you."
Ryan blushed like Zeke just proposed or something. "Th-thank you." He took it and smiled. "I'll practice tonight."
Zeke smiled too. "Great." He noticed his friend Jason Cross waving him over. "I got to go. See you tomorrow." He walked away.
Ryan looked at the cook book and swooned. Zeke never gave a cook book to anybody before. Maybe because nobody ever seemed interested in baking, but maybe Ryan was special to Zeke. Ryan held the cook book close to his chest like it was a trophy. It is a trophy. The best thing Ryan has gotten all his High School Years.
And there is Chapter 2 everybody!
