When morning arrived, Horus and his three other teammates were peacefully sleeping in their beds until Ryu blew on a whistle "Ahhh!" Olette screamed as she fell off her bed.
"Time to get up everyone! It's a new day, my friends." Ryu said excitedly, with his teammates looking like they wanted to crawl back into bed.
"Ryu… it's six in the morning… can we go back to sleep, please?" Olette asks.
"It may be six in the morning, however we have classes today and I want us to get ready. Plus, we still need to unpack." Ryu explained as his teammates groggily got their clothes from their drawers and went to change.
The boys wear black suits lined with gold, accompanied by a blue vest and a white shirt with a red tie.
Olette wears a red plaid skirt, with knee high socks and a brown jacket with a tan vest and white shirt with a red ribbon tied at the collar.
They spent the next two hours finishing unpacking their things, with Olette placing a photo of her and her mother on top of her drawer next to her lamp, while Riley placed a punching bag next to his bed and Horus put a poster in between Ryu's bed and his.
After decorating their room, the four teens leave their dorm room and Ryu locks the door when they see Team JNPR leaves their dorm room "Oh, good morning." Pyrrha greeted.
"Good morning to you as well, Pyrrha." Ryu greeted back as Team RWBY leaves their dorm room in a rush.
"Outta the way! We're gonna be late! It's eight fifty-five!" Ruby shouted.
Ryu then looks at the time and his eyes widen "She's right! We need to go!" Ryu said as both Team JNPR and Team HORR rush to get to their classes on time.
Once at their class, Professor Port was going on with his lesson "Monsters… demons… prowlers of the night! Yes, the creatures of Grimm have many names. But I merely refer to them as prey." Professor Port then laughs but no one laughs with him.
"Uhh…" Port knew his joke didn't go anywhere and resumes his lesson "And you shall too upon graduating from this prestigious Academy. Now as i was saying, Vale, as the other three kingdoms, are safe-havens in an otherwise treacherous world. Our planet is absolutely teeming with creatures that we would love nothing more than to tear you to pieces!" He said while looking at Horus in the eyes before moving along.
"And that's where we come in. Huntsmen. Huntress... Individuals who have sworn to protect those who cannot protect themselves. From what, you ask? Why the very world!" Professor Port cheered.
"Yeah Whoooo!" One of the students cheered as well but then sat back down from being stared at by Team RWBY and Team HORR.
"That is what you are training to become. But first, a story. A tale of a young, handsome young man." Professor Port smiles.
"Is it you?" Horus asks tiredly.
"Why yes! Dear Horus. It is indeed a story about me." Professor Port confirmed as Olette facepalms herself.
"Be prepared to be bored to death…" Olette whispers to Horus as Professor Port begins his story.
"When i was a boy…" The lecture soon became all about Professor Port, which made everyone bored except for Ryu and Weiss, who paid close attention to the story "...Despite smelling like cabbages, my grandfather was a wise man. Peter, he told me…"
Ryu was taking notes on Port's story. Olette has never met anyone who would actually listen to Professor Port's long winded story, she was impressed. But Weiss was not being amused by Ruby's antics as she makes a fart noise, making Yang and Blake giggle a bit.
"...In the end the Beowolf was no match for my sheer tenacity. And I returned to my village with the beast in captivity and my head held high. Celebrated as a hero!" Port said as he looks around at the students.
"The moral of the story? A true huntsman must be honorable. A true huntsman must be dependable. A true huntsman must be strategic, well educated and wise!" Weiss couldn't take it anymore with Ruby's antics.
"So, who among you believes themselves to be the embodiment of these traits?" Both Ryu and Weiss stood up from their seats and raised their hands.
"I do sir!" The two said at the same time, making them turn to each other.
"Well then, Let's find out." Port then turns to a caged Grimm "Step Forward! And face your opponent."
Weiss and Ryu came back inside with their combat clothes from the other day and stood in their ready positions "Go Weiss!" Yang Cheered.
"Fight well!" Blake cheered as well.
"Break a leg, Ryu!" Olette cheered.
"Don't die on the first day." Riley said.
"Yeah! Represent Team RWBY!" Ruby cheered.
"Yeah! And represent Team HORR, Ryu!" Horus cheered with Ryu smiling at his teammates while Weiss looked at Ruby in annoyance.
"Ruby! I'm trying to focus!" Weiss yelled.
"Oh… Sorry…" Seeing Ruby get sad made Olette's blood boil.
"Alright, let's begin the match!" Professor Port said as he unleashes the beast from its cage.
"A Boarbatusk?!" Olette exclaims as the Grimm charges at Weiss and Ryu.
"Ho ho! Weren't expecting that, were you?" Ryu then jumps over the Boarbatusk and tries to strike at its back but it barely makes a dent.
"Damn… Weiss! Be careful!" Ryu warned her but she didn't listen as she lunged at the Boarbatusk but got her weapon stuck on the tusks of the Grimm.
"Hold your approach! I like it!" Port said.
"Come on, Weiss! Show it who's boss!" Ruby cheered, making Weiss lose her concentration and letting her weapon go.
"Now, what will you do without your weapon?" Port asks as Ryu then begins to anticipate the Boarbatusk's movements and notice it's armor was not on its stomach.
"Weiss! Go for its belly! There's no armor underneath!" Ruby pointed it out for Ryu, which made him smile a bit but he then refocused on it, charging right at Weiss but Weiss looks at Ruby with an angry face as she grabs her weapon.
"Stop telling me what to do!" Weiss shouted as Ryu uses Shadow's Fury to flip the Boarbatusk over and Weiss stabs it on the stomach, killing it.
"Bravo! Bravo! It appears we are indeed in the presence of a true huntsman and huntress in training. I'm afraid that's all of the time we have for today. Be sure to cover the assigned readings. Class dismissed!" Port said as Weiss leaves the room with Olette chasing after her.
"What the hell is wrong with you!?" Olette asks Weiss, shouting at her.
"What's wrong with me?! You should be asking Ruby that!" Weiss yelled.
"Ruby wants to be friends with you and she's clearly trying to be a great leader! So why aren't you giving her the chance?!" Olette asks.
"She's nothing but a nuisance! Back at the forest, she acted like a child and continues to do so!" Weiss explains.
"So?! We're all like her in some way! And she can be a great leader of your team if you give her the chance!" Olette said but Weiss just scoffs.
"Yeah, right. I don't want to be on a team led by that stupid girl. Ozpin made a mistake." Weiss then walks away, leaving Olette infuriated when she sees Ruby lowering her head when she turns around to find Ozpin behind her.
"Now, that didn't go very well." Ozpin said.
"Is she right? Did you make a mistake?" Ruby asks as Ozpin chuckles a bit.
"That remains to be seen." Ozpin said.
Weiss walks to the roof of the school where she found Professor Port staring out to the setting sun "Professor Port!" Weiss called out.
"Ah, Ms. Schnee!" He said as he turned to her "And to what do I owe this fine pleasure?"
"I-I enjoyed your lecture!" Weiss said with a force smile.
"Of course you did, child! You have the blood of a true huntress in you." Professor Port said.
"You think so?"
"Most surely! And i'm sure Mr. Himura enjoyed it as well." Port then noticed Weiss looking at the side for a split second "Hm, something's troubling you."
"Yes sir." Weiss said.
"Dear girl, confess to me your strife!" Port said.
"Well…" Weiss knew she couldn't be subtle about what she wanted to say. She just wanted to get it off her chest "I think i should've been the leader of Team RWBY." Weiss said bluntly.
"That's preposterous!" Port said.
"What do you mean?" Ruby asks Ozpin.
"I mean, it's only been a day. Ruby… I've made more mistakes than any man, woman, and child on this planet. But at this moment, I would not consider your appointment to leader as one of them. Do you?" Ozpin asks.
"Excuse me?!" Weiss shouted.
"I've believed in Professor Ozpin for many years. And that man's never once led me astray." Port explained.
"So you would just blindly accept his decision, even after seeing how exceptional i am?" Weiss asks.
"With all due respect, your exceptional skill on the battlefield is matched only by your poor attitude." Port explained.
"How dare you!" Weiss snapped.
"My point exactly. I see a girl before me who has spent her life getting exactly what she wanted." Port summarized as Weiss crossed her arms.
"That's not even remotely true." Port then raises an eyebrow "Well… not entirely true." Weiss said.
"Being a team leader isn't just a title you carry into battle. But a badge you wear constantly. If you are not always performing at your absolute best, then what reason do you give others to follow you?" Ozpin asks as Ruby then looks at Ryu and Horus talking to each other despite being polar opposites.
"So the outcome did not fall in your favor. Do you really believe that acting in such a manner would cause those in power to reconsider their decision?" Port asks, making Weiss think for a moment.
"So instead of fretting over what you don't have, savor what you do. Hone your skills, perfect every technique, and be not the best leader, but the best person you can be." Port explained, making Weiss smile and nod.
"You've been burdened with a daunting responsibility, Ruby. I advise you to take some time… to see how you will uphold it." Ozpin said to Ruby as he walked away.
Team HORR was back in their dorm room, doing their homework when they heard a knock on the door "Who is it?" Ryu asks as the opens to reveal to be Weiss.
"Oh… it's you." Olette said as Weiss looked at her with an apologetic look on her face.
"I… I want to apologize for what happened this afternoon. Please forgive me, Olette." Weiss said as she bows to her. But Olette only frowned.
"Don't ask my forgiveness. Ask for Ruby's." Olette said as Weiss leaves the room and returns to her dorm room.
"That was a bit harsh. Don't you think?" Horus asks.
"I just… can't stand people like her. They always think that they're better than everyone else'." Olette explained.
"I can understand that." Everyone in the room then turned to Ryu "I used to be a servant of a person like that before my mother came in and saved me from my doomed fate." Ryu explained.
"Your mom saved you?" Horus asks.
"She was a huntress who just so happened to notice that I was suffering, along with the others…" Ryu trails off and sheds a stray tear.
"Ryu…?" Olette was now starting to worry for Ryu.
"I'm fine. Just thinking about the past. I'm gonna go and get some fresh air." Ryu said as he left the dorms.
"I wonder what happened." Horus said.
"Don't know. Maybe we shouldn't pry into it." Olette said as they got caught off guard by Riley's snoring.
"What is he?" Horus asks.
"Who knows…?" Olette said as she got up from her desk and changed into her pajamas and Horus did the same.
"Goodnight, Horus." Olette said as she turned the lamp off.
"G'night." Horus said as he yawns and falls asleep.
Outside, Ryu was in the courtyard, looking up at the cracked moon and shed a tear "No one should ever know of the sin i've committed… You said it wasn't my fault, but it was… Mother." Ryu said as he walked back to the dorms.
Once he came back inside, Ryu changed into his pajamas and laid on his bed, not even falling asleep as he looked up to the ceiling "...Something happened, huh?" Olette asks, making Ryu turn his head quickly to her.
"...Gods, don't scare me like that." Ryu said.
"Sorry. But something happened to her, right?" Ryu nods slightly "Do you want to talk about it?" Olette asks.
"...Can you keep a secret?" Ryu asks.
"Yeah. Whatever you need to tell me, I'll keep it a secret. You have my word." Olette said as Ryu takes a deep breath.
"...I killed her." Olette looks at Ryu in shock "Not directly though. It was an attack at our village and she was being controlled by someone. She was ordered to kill me. I fought her and before she could kill me, she killed herself." Ryu explained as he shed a few more tears.
"But you weren't responsible for it. She probably killed herself to protect you." Olette inquired.
"But it was still my fault. That's another reason for becoming a Huntsman, other than just honoring her memory… redemption." Olette and Ryu sat up and looked at each other "You're the only one who knows Olette… and I want to keep it that way." Ryu said as Olette smiles and nods.
"Like I said. You have my word." Olette said as she and Ryu laid back down on their beds "Sweet dreams, Ryu."
"Sweet dreams to you as well, Olette." Ryu said as he felt his guilty conscience was weighing less on his mind and he was able to sleep a bit more peacefully that night.
