Chapter 2
A/N: Oh no, oh no, oh no! *runs around in circles* I'M LATE! Omg I'm so sorry I didn't post. I did not notice that we were into the next week already. I did something to make it up to you though. For now, enjoy this chapter. It's short but important.
A few days later, Narcissa announced that they had to go to Diagon Alley to buy Ari's new school items. Arianna was practically jumping in excitement as she was finally getting a real wand! She had spent the last few days chatting to her snake friends and dreaming about Hogwarts. She would be in Slytherin, of course, any other house was unthinkable. Though…Ravenclaw wouldn't be too bad, but if she got into Gryffindor, her parents would disown her and if she were a Hufflepuff, she would definitely run away. She shook her head as if to clear it and bounded down the stairs to the living room. "Now darling, you haven't done side along apparation yet so let me warn you, it is not the most comfortable feeling." Her mother said. "And don't you dare puke on me" her father added sternly. Ari inwardly smirked. She had done side along apparation many times before under an invisibility cloak, but her parents didn't need know that. "All right let's go" she said in a fake slightly nervous voice.
Moments later, they appeared in the middle of Diagon Alley, right in front of Flourish and Blots. Arianna wanted to head straight in and buy some books, but her parents had insisted that they go to Gringotts first. She inwardly facepalmed herself. Nothing could be bought if she had no money, that was just stupid. So, to Gringotts they went and as they were passing through the huge doors, Ari rolled her eyes at the inscription above their heads,
Enter, stranger, but take heed
Of what awaits the sin of greed
For those who take, but do not earn,
Must pay most dearly in their turn.
So if you seek beneath our floors
A treasure that was never yours,
Thief, you have been warned, beware
Of finding more than treasure there.
"Honestly" she muttered "we know, we know".
Exactly 10 mins later, Arianna walked out of Gringotts with a heavy money bag and headed towards the pet shop. Her mother and father were shopping for her other things, so she was left to find herself a pet and a wand. Inside the pet shop, the air was slightly damp and musty with the smell of fur. Wide glowing eyes were glaring through the semidarkness and as her eyes adjusted, she could see that the place was full of a whole lot of different animals. From cats to dogs to toads, bats, owls, salamanders and even nifflers and, she gasped with delight, snakes.
Arianna could hear the snakes whispering and grumbling and, once she got close enough, she hissed back at them in parceltongue. That made them jump. She walked through the rows of cages and occasionally responded to a curious snake's questions. After nearly 20 minutes had passed, Ari came to a larger cage where two snakes were sleeping side by side. They were black with shimmering under scales of different colours. They looked identical and it was clear that the snakes were twins. The female twin opened her eyes (which were golden) and hissed at Ari fiercely. "I'm not leaving this place without my brother and that is final. Don't try unless you want to die of my venom." Arianna laughed and said, "You both are perfect, but I don't want to die either, so you won't be leaving without your brother". The snake considered this and gave Ari what was probably a grin by snake expression. "All right parcelmouth" the snake answered as her brother nodded. "My name's Arianna" she replied and picked up the cage. She was beyond excited.
Her excitement was penetrated by nervousness about her wand though. Panicked thoughts were racing through Ari's head and she nearly screamed when Mr Ollivander materialised out of nowhere in the middle of the shop. "Ahhh, young Miss Malfoy. Come to get your wand, correct?" he said in a raspy old voice. "Uh yes Mr Ollivander, sir" Ari stuttered. "Well, wand arm out please." Arianna held out her right arm and watched as a tape measured her while Ollivander took an assortment of boxes from the shelves. "Try this one" the old wizard said, handing Ari a dark brown wand. "9 inches, chestnut. Supple with unicorn hair core." Ari waved the wand and wand boxes exploded from the shelves. "Sorry" she whispered. "No matter. Try this one. 11 inches, holly with a phoenix feather core." Ollivander handed her another wand. Arianna waved it again and this time everything was covered in dust, including the people.
4 wands later, Mr Ollivander limped through the mess towards a shelf to take out another wand when he stopped suddenly. His hand hovered above an old box and he muttered "perhaps it's time." He hesitantly opened the box but did not touch the wand. "Ebony & Elder wood, 9 and a half inches. Flexible. Thestral tail hair" he said, holding the box out to her. "Isn't the Elder wand the only one made of Elder wood?" Ari asked. "it is the only one to be made completely of Elder wood, but this wand is a mixture of two quite different types of wood. Combined with the thestral hair, it might very well be even more powerful than the Elder wand." "Oh wow" she breathed as she picked the wand up and studied it close up. Arianna felt a surge of power through her veins, and she cast a spell her mother used often. "SCOURGIFY!" she cried, copying the wand movement she had seen many times. As soon as she waved the wand, the boxes all put themselves on the right shelves, the dust vanished, the window repaired itself and all the other mess cleaned up too. "Well miss Malfoy, that wand is perfect for you." Commented Ollivander with a slight tremor in his voice. Ari bowed slightly and left the shop, feeling Ollivander's troubled gaze on her as she closed the door.
A/N: sooooooo, powerful wand hmmm? Wonder what that's gonna do. Anyway, please comment, I would really appreciate it. Oh and I posted the next chapter as well to make up for not posting.
