I'm so sorry for the wait, but I just had a hard time getting this chapter out. Plus, it was my little sister's birthday and some other stuff happened . . . and I was lazy.
Anyways, apologizes aside, I hope you enjoy this chapter!
. . .
Dinner was nice. We ate and talked. Genie, Dalia, Emaan, and Halima joined us. They're Jordan's parents and older sister and brother. I've known them just as long as I've known Aladdin and Jasmine, and I like them. Emaan and Halima are about to start their senior year of college.
As we ate, I noticed something. Lea seemed...distant. Not as tuned in as usual. We all noticed the hole where her playful banter usually was, but no one brought it up.
After we finished, I grabbed Lea's wrist like she did to me when I got there and pulled her upstairs.
"Talk," I said, letting Jordan in before closing the door. One good thing about knowing these two for years is that we never have to ask questions about things like this. By now all it takes is one word and we understand.
Lea fiddled with her shirt, and looked nervous.
"Remember how I signed up to be a counselor at Camp this year?" she finally asked.
Jordan and I nodded, both understanding what she was talking about.
Lea, Jordan, Hamila, and Emaan had been going to the same summer camp every year for a while. It was only for the first month of summer, and wasn't a sleepaway camp. But every day at twelve in the morning they would arrive, and at six they would leave. Every year there was one weekend where they would take a small trip somewhere. When they got back we would want to hear the interesting stories of what happened. Emma and I would have loved to join them, but summer camps have never been our thing.
Anyways, a couple years back Hamila and Emaan were counselors. They loved it, and Jordan and Lea have been waiting forever to do it too. They finally got to do it when they were sixteen, and have been doing it for the past couple years. At the camp, they split you into groups and assign two coulnswers a group. Lea and Jordan have been in charge of a group together for these past couple years, but this year Jordan got a part-time job and decided not to be a counselor. We didn't know much about whoever Lea had gotten partnered with this year, except that he was a guy and went to Agrabah Academy.
"Well . . . I'm sorry, can we call Emma? I want all my best friends to be here when I tell you guys," Lea said, and I nodded, pulling out my phone and hoping Emma picked up.
She did on the third ring.
"Hey Lori," she said, and I grinned.
"Hey Em. I'm with Jordan and Lea, Lea wants to tell us something. I'm going to put you on speaker, okay?"
"Okay," she said, and I turned on the speaker, pulling the phone away from my ear and holding it in front of me.
"So, what did you want to tell us?" Jordan asked Lea.
"Um, so at camp, you know how I told you a bit about the counselor I got partnered with this year?"
"Yeah, Amir, right?" Emma guessed, and Lea nodded before remembering Emma couldn't see her.
"Yes," she said. "Anyways, I've been talking to him during break and he's really awesome. He's super smart and we like a lot of the same things, and I like arguing with him about music and stuff. I just . . . I like him. Like, as more than a friend."
We all turned to Jordan as she let out a small squeal.
"Seriously Jordan?" I asked, rolling my eyes, although I was grinning too.
"I think that's great!" Emma's voice came from the phone. "After all, you haven't dated since-"
She abruptly cut herself off, and Lea sighed.
"You can say his name Emma," she said simply. "And no one said anything about dating. I'm not even sure he likes me. He may just think of me as that girl he got stuck sharing a group with."
We were quiet for a moment. All of us knew how it felt to be rejected or for your crush to like someone else. It sucked.
"Well," I said, breaking the silence. "If he doesn't like you, then he's an idiot."
"Or a boy, same thing," Jordan joked. As I looked at her, I realized something odd. Jordan never had a real boyfriend! She'd liked a few boys, but it never went anywhere. All of us had some experience. Emma had been on dates before Riley, I'd had a couple boyfriends before Az came along, and Lea had...well, Lea had the worst luck out of all of us when it came to love, which was probably why we were all so excited. But with Jordan...nothing.
"Anyways," Emma said, distracting us. "If he doesn't like you we'll help you get over it, and if he hurts you I'll run him through with a sword."
"Perfect," I nodded. "Foolproof plan."
Lea chuckled, and we all sat in comfortable silence for a moment, before I heard Neal shout, "Emma! Do you want ice cream?!"
"I gotta go, the demon is calling," Emma joked. "See you guys tomorrow?"
"Can't wait," Lea said, ending the call.
"Ice cream sounds good," I said.
"Race you to the kitchen!" Jordan said, leaping up. Lea and I followed, and we all went on our way to raid the kitchen.
. . .
That night, I slipped into 'bed'. Whenever we did something like this, all of us would share a room. We would sleep on the floor in sleeping bags. At the moment, we were in Lea's room.
"You guys excited for Emma to come tomorrow?" I asked. She would have come today like me, but she had some stuff to do in her kingdom.
"Yes. Then we can put our plan in motion," Lea said, and I could just imagine the evil grin on her face.
"You mean your plan, Lori and I are innocent bystanders," Jordan said.
"Yeah, yeah, keep telling yourself that," Lea shot back.
After a moment of silence, I said, "Good night guys."
" 'Night."
"Good night."
And in a couple minutes we were asleep.
. . .
I know I said in this chapter you would find out what Lea's plan was, but I wanted to focus more on the girls and their bonding. Next chapter Emma comes, and they'll get that plan started.
Who do you think Emma was talking about what she said Lea hadn't dated since something happened?
