Hiccup (cont.): Oh, I hit it! YES! I HIT IT! Did anybody see that?
" Nope sorry," said Tuffnut, Ruffnut was bursting with laughter beside him.
Hiccup turned to him and stuck his tongue out, the twins gasped in outrage making the whole room laugh.
[A Monstrous Nightmare shows up and crushes Hiccup's bola launcher.]
Hiccup (cont.): Except for you.
Everyone laughed.
" That's a good one," said Snotlout wiping tears from his eyes.
Stoick laughed his son was always so sarcastic, he had a very good sense of humor it reminded him of his mother
[A shrill cry sounds from the hill, and catches Stoick's attention. He turns to see the Monstrous Nightmare chasing Hiccup, and gets up to go help him.]
Stoick: DO NOT let them escape!
Spitelout: Right!
[Hiccup runs behind a torch pole and hides, just as flames reach around the corner. He looks behind it and on the other side, the Nightmare reaches to get Hiccup. Stoick punches the beast and jumps back to defend himself. The dragon tries to breathe fire, but coughs up a small amount of magma instead.]
"That was a really cool move" commented Astrid in awe. The chief's strength was no laughing matter
Stoick: You're all out.
[Stoick promptly defeats the Nightmare. The torch pole collapses, the torch tumbles down into the village, leaving ruins in its wake.]
Hiccup (v.o.): Oh, and there's one more thing you need to know...
Hiccup: Sorry, Dad. Okay, but I hit a Night Fury.
[Stoick grabs Hiccup by the back of his shirt and drags him towards his house.]
Stoick winced internally. He would have to make up for a lot of things but his son's trust in him after years of being ignored would have to be the first.
"Wow," Said Hiccup " I do make big messes, don't I?" He looked at Astrid while pointing to the screen.
She turned to him with a raised eyebrow.
He slouched back in his seat "Yeah, ok. Don't answer that" He mumbled and she chuckled beside him.
Hiccup (cont.): It's not like the last few times, Dad! I mean, I really actually hit it! You guys were busy and I had a very clear shot. It went down, just off Raven Point. Let's get a search party out there, before it-
Stoick: STOP! Just... stop. Every time you step outside, disaster follows. Can you not see that I have bigger problems? Winter's almost here and I have an entire village to feed!
Hiccup: Between you and me, the village could do with a little less feeding, don't ya think?
"Hey!" Came indignant replies of many Vikings.
Hiccup laughed nervously "sorry"
Stoick: This isn't a joke, Hiccup! Why can't you follow the simplest orders?
Hiccup: I can't stop myself. I see a dragon and I have to just... kill it, you know? It's who I am, Dad.
Hiccup snorted. That was so far from the truth. In the end, he had had the opportunity but he didn't do it. And he was glad he didn't now things are better than ever before in Berk.
Stoick: You are many things, Hiccup. But a dragon killer is not one of them. Get back to the house. [To Gobber] Make sure he gets there. I have his mess to clean up.
Tuffnut: Quite the performance.
Snotlout: I've never seen anyone mess up that badly. That helped!
Hiccup: Thank you, thank you. I was trying, so...I really did hit one.
Gobber: Sure, Hiccup.
Hiccup: He never listens.
Gobber: Well, it runs in the family.
"It does not!" Exclaimed father and son at the same time.
Everyone laughed.
Gobber turned to Stoick after he sat down "looks like you two still have some things in common" Stoick's lips curved up a little at that.
Hiccup: And when he does, it's always with this... disappointed scowl. Like someone skimped on the meat in his sandwich. [Imitating Stoick] Excuse me, barmaid! I'm afraid you brought me the wrong offspring. I ordered an extra large boy with beefy arms. Extra guts and glory on the side. This here, this is a talking fish bone!
Nobody said anything until Gobber snorted then the dam broke and everyone burst out laughing.
Stoick grumbled annoyed " That does not sound like me"
Gobber laughed harder seeing the chief's expression " What are you talking about that was spot on!"
A row in front the dragon riders were on the floor laughing with tears in their eyes, meanwhile, Hiccup was blushing madly. He looked around the village couldn't stop laughing. He looked at Astrid, she was also laughing, he sighed blissfully and she turned surprised to look at him
Gobber: Now, you're thinking about this all wrong. It's not so much what you look like, it's what's inside that he can't stand.
Hiccup: [Sarcastically] Thank you for summing that up.
Gobber: Look, the point is, stop trying so hard to be something you're not.
"That' some great advice right there ladies and gents" Replied Hiccup sarcastically.
Gobber stood up and took a bow " Thank you, thank you" Everyone laughed.
Hiccup: I just want to be one of you guys.
Astrid chuckled "How ironic"
Hiccup looked at her confused "What?"
"It's ironic," Astrid said "Since we want to be one of you" She smiled at him.
For a moment all Hiccup could do was look at her. She was amazing. He looked past her and noticed Snoutlout also smiling at him, he looked around. Everyone was smiling at him, it made him realize just how much things had truly changed. It made him feel happy.
He returned the smile " You are "
[The scene cuts to the Meade hall, where everyone is gathered]
Stoick: Either we finish them, or they'll finish us! It's the only way we'll be rid of them! If we find the nest and destroy it, the dragons will leave. They'll find another home! One more search. Before the ice sets in.
Viking: Those ships never come back.
Stoick: We're Vikings! It's an occupational hazard! Now who's with me?!
Viking: Today's not good for me. I've gotta do my axe returns.
Stoick: Alright. Those who stay will look after Hiccup.
Phlegma: To the ships!
Spitelout: I'm with you, Stoick!
"My goodness," said Hiccup
Stoick: That's more like it.
Gobber: Right, I'll pack my undies.
Stoick: No, I need you to stay and train some new recruits.
Gobber: [Sarcastically] Oh, perfect. And while I'm busy, Hiccup can cover the stall. Molten steel, razor sharp blades, lots of time to himself... what could possibly go wrong?
"Nothing would go wrong Gobber" answered Hiccup with a mischievous smile.
Gobber groaned in his hand.
Stoick: What am I going to do with him, Gobber?
Gobber: Put him in training with the others.
Stoick: No, I'm serious.
Gobber: So am I.
Stoic: He'd be killed before you let the first dragon out of its cage.
Gobber: Oh, you don't know that.
Stoick: I do know that, actually.
Gobber: No, you don't.
Stoick: No, actually, I do.
Gobber: No, you don't!
"It's like a toddler fight" suddenly said Ruffnut which prompted everyone to burst out laughing.
Stoick: Listen, you know what he's like. From the time he could crawl he's been... different. He doesn't listen, he has the attention span of a sparrow... I take him fishing and he goes hunting for... for trolls!
Hiccup cleared his throat and stood up "Trolls exist! They steal your socks. But only the left ones. What's with that?"
Gobber: Trolls exist! They steal your socks. But only the left ones. What's with that?
Everyone laughed.
Stoick: When I was a boy...
Gobber and Hiccup groaned out loud.
Stoick crossed his arms indignantly.
Gobber: Oh, here we go.
Stoick: My father told me to bang my head against a rock, and I did it. I thought it was crazy, but I didn't question him. And you know what happened?
" You got a headache" Answered Gobber and Hiccup simultaneously.
Gobber: You got a headache.
Stoick: That rock split in two. It taught me what a Viking could do, Gobber. He could- He could crush mountains, level forests, tame seas! Even as a boy, I knew what I was, what I had to become. Hiccup is not that boy.
Gobber: You can't stop him, Stoick. You can only prepare him. Look, I know it seems hopeless. But the truth is you won't always be around to protect him. He's going to get out there again. He's probably out there now.
"Wow," Said Fishlegs "he read you like a book"
Hiccup huffed.
[Scene cuts to Hiccup trekking through the forest]
Hiccup: Oh, the gods hate me. Some people lose their knife or their mug. No, not me. I manage to lose an ENTIRE DRAGON?
"Don't worry son. It has happened before" Said Stoick
Hiccup turned around surprised "Really?!"
"Of course," Said Gobber "We've been fighting dragons for a long time. Sometimes you shoot them out of the sky but don't know where they land"
"I didn't know that," said Snotlout
"When it comes to dragons you can bet everything has already happened," said Gobber "No matter how unbelievable "
"Except riding one" pointed out Astrid.
Stoick clasped Hiccup's shoulder "Well now it has"
[Hiccup encounters the Night Fury, bounded by his bola]
Hiccup (cont.): Oh, wow. I did it. Oh, I did it! This fixes everything! Yes! I have brought down this mighty beast!
[Hiccup steps on the dragon's face but it shoves him away]
Hiccup (cont.): Whoa!
[He takes out his knife]
Hiccup (cont.): I'm going to kill you, dragon. I'm gonna cut out your heart and take it to my father. I'm a Viking. I am a VIKING!
[He hesitates and finally gives in]
"When you look at his face it is pretty difficult to do it," Said Fishlegs.
Hiccup (cont.): I did this.
[Hiccup begins cutting the ropes that bind the Night Fury.]
"Although I don't know if I would cut the ropes of a dragon when I'm powerless" He pointed out.
Astrid hit him in the head "That was dangerous" Se chastised "Something could have happened to you"
Hiccup rubbed the spot where she had hit him " But it didn't. Don't hir me" he whined.
"You need to be more careful" she ordered, "understood?"
Hiccup nodded his head frantically.
Meanwhile, Stoick observed the scenes with a small smile.
Gobber noticed and whispered, "What are you thinking?"
"She would make a good bride, don't you think?" Stoick whispered back.
"Oh no. No, no, no." Gobber pointed at Stoick accusingly "stay away from your son's love life"
Stoick raised his hands in mock surrender.
[The dragon rolls Hiccup over roars in Hiccup's face, leaving him unharmed]
[Hiccup whimpers and faints.]
The Rom Exploded in laughter and Hiccup shrunk in his seat embarrassed
[Scene cuts to the haddock household]
Stoick: Hiccup.
Hiccup: Dad! Uh... I have to talk to you, Dad.
Stoick: I need to speak with you too, son.
Hiccup and Stoick: I've decided I don't want / I think it's time you learn / to fight dragons. What?
Stoick: You go first.
Hiccup: No, no, you go first.
Stoick: Alright. You get your wish. Dragon Training. You start in the morning.
Hiccup: [Panicking] Oh, man, I should've gone first! Uh, 'cause I was thinking, you know, we have a surplus of dragon-fighting Vikings, but do we have enough... bread-making Vikings, or small home repair Vikings-?
Stoick: You'll need this. [passes Hiccup an axe]
Hiccup: I don't want to fight dragons.
Stoick: Come on. Yes, you do.
Hiccup: Rephrase: Dad, I can't kill dragons.
Stoick: But you will kill dragons.
Hiccup: No, I'm really very extra sure that I won't.
Stoick: It's time, Hiccup.
Hiccup: Can you not hear me?
Stoick: This is serious, son! When you carry this axe, you carry all of us with you. Which means you walk like us. You talk like us. You think like us. No more of... this.
Hiccup: You just gestured to all of me.
Stoick: Deal?
Hiccup: This conversation is feeling very one-sided.
Stoick: Deal?
Hiccup: Deal.
"You guys need to work on your communication skills," Gobber said.
The room hummed in agreement. Father and son looked at each other and smiled nervously.
Stoick: Good. Train hard. I'll be back. Probably.
Hiccup: And I'll be here. Maybe.
A/N: hey guys sorry it took so long. I would like to make clear some things I've been asked.
First of all this story takes place sometime after the first movie. Probably around the time of riders of Berk which I'm not counting for this story.
Secondly, I will finish this story and the other two films as well. It will take some time but I hope to be done by the end of summer since I would like to start some similar stories of characters watching their shows.
Right now updates will be slow because it's the last two months of senior year and I have to study for the equivalent of the SAT here if I want to study what I like.
So please be patient with me.
I hope you liked this story and please don't hesitate to give me suggestions, I will try to take as many as I can into account.
