"Oh Tikki, what have I done? He hates me now, I know he does! I can't do this without him, what am I going to do?" A distraught Marinette faceplants herself into her pillow.
Her kwami tries to soothe her chosen. "Calm down, it'll be alright. Chat knows the stress you've been under, and he'll understand."
"But this time I've really broken his heart. He won't trust me like he did before. He might even renounce his Miraculous because of me!" And Marinette starts to cry.
Tikki replies, "no, he won't do that, he's not that selfish to think of himself rather than the people of Paris. And you."
"That's true. He wouldn't do that, but will he like me and trust me like he used to? I don't think so." Marinette rolls over to face the ceiling. "I've rejected him so many times, but this time I hurt him too badly."
"Done is done, we'll have to see how he reacts. Maybe it won't be as bad as you think."
Yeah, and maybe it'll be worse too, thinks Marinette.
A different conversation is going on in Adrien's bedroom between him and his kwami.
"This really hurts, Plagg. She told someone else instead of me, and there's only one conclusion I can draw from that. She just doesn't trust me or care about me as much as I thought."
His kwami responds. "Let's look at this objectively, okay? You know she was upset because she just broke up with her boyfriend, right? And feels bad about it. Probably has had to lie to her family and friends, which if I'm any judge also goes against the grain. Plus, the people she gave a Miraculous to got outted, and we've been fighting akumas and sentimonsters quite a lot lately and on top of that she is also the Guardian. That's a lot of pressure for a 15-year old girl to handle. And maybe there's even more that we don't know about. Maybe we should cut her some slack?"
Adrien walks over to the window and looks out. "Yeah, but why wouldn't she come to me as Chat? That's the part that bugs me, no pun intended. I tried to get her to open up but she wouldn't do it and I don't know why."
"I don't know why either, but I can make a guess. She doesn't want to look bad in your eyes, in other words she doesn't want to lose your good opinion of her. So maybe it isn't that she doesn't like you or trust you enough, maybe it's that she likes you too much and doesn't realize it yet. And I think she totally trusts you, it's herself she doesn't trust as much. She's got loads of responsibilities and maybe doesn't feel up to the job sometimes. Or maybe she just freaked out."
"Don't forget, she's a 15-year girl who has been sharing secrets with her best friend for a long time, so she's maybe more comfortable with her just out of habit when it comes to personal stuff, like boyfriends and all that. So she got all emotional and didn't think it through. I think she needs your help more than anything else."
"Yeah, I get that. So you're telling me to get my head out and grow up a little?"
"That, and get me some Camembert."
"Can you do me a favor? There's an extra slice of cheese in it for you if you could fly over to Ladybug or her kwami and tell them we're cool?"
"Consider it done. It better be a big slice of Camembert though."
"Consider it done."
