It had been a few days since Summer had broken up with Beau. Surprisingly everything seemed to have settled with the Haywood family.
Beau was out in the stables on a Wednesday afternoon, feeding My Girl while reminiscing about that fateful morning he spent with Bailey, where she healed his broken heart.
Of course, Bailey didn't know the extent of what her actions had caused, neither did Beau in a way. He knew he cared for the young nanny, but he didn't exactly know how much, or even if it were just platonic, could be something more?
All he knew is that he was confused with his feelings, very confused.
"Hey, I'm just going to pick up the kids" Bailey said walking into the barn as Beau poured feed into the stable.
"Sure, okay. See you in a lit- I mean bit" Beau stuttered. Cursing himself for being so stupid.
"Okay" Bailey giggled dashing out of the barn.
"Okay everyone settled?" Bailey asked before getting into the truck.
"Yeah, we're good" Tuck said from the back of the truck.
"Has everyone got their seatbelts on?" Bailey asked from the driver's seat.
"Yeah" The kids said, including the boys, who obviously didn't have seatbelts in the back of the truck.
"Okay, then were off" Bailey said putting the truck into gear and heading towards the ranch.
"Bailey?" Chloe asked as they were close to the ranch.
"Yes, sweetie" Bailey answered.
"Why'd you blush, coming down from giving daddy his breakfast in bed" Chloe asked making Bailey go deep red in the cheeks.
"What?! I didn't blush, you must be seeing things little missy" Bailey said trying to cover her embarrassment.
While Kassidy tapped Chloe on the arm and giving her a look, as well as the boys who had heard Chloe's question looking through the plastic window with looks of disbelief.
"Yeah, Chloe you must be seeing things, Bailey never blushes" Brody said trying to cover up his worry.
"You boys better turn around and have your backs to the front, otherwise your dad'll have my job" Bailey said turning into the ranch.
They all hoped out of the truck once it stopped and headed inside to the house.
All the kids went upstairs while Bailey started the laundry.
"Chloe what were you thinking asking Bailey about her liking Daddy" Kassidy said once they were all in her room.
"I asked about her blushing not about her liking daddy" The six y.o replied.
"Same thing we can't let them know, that we know they like each other" Dylan said.
"Hold on guys, we don't actually know if they like each other, I mean daddy's only just getting over Summer. There's no way he would be looking for anyone to date" Tuck said.
"Yeah, we know but it's pretty obvious they like each other. They just won't admit it to themselves" Kassidy said.
"So why don't we get them to admit it to themselves, each other even?" Brody said.
"No way, can you imagine if we're wrong how awkward will it be, we can't risk it" Kassidy said.
"So, we get them to gradually find out" Dylan said.
"How does someone gradually tell someone they like each other. That or Brody should have done that with Joe" Chloe said sassily.
"Can we not bring Joe into this" Brody said embarrassed.
"We could set them on a date?" Tuck said.
"Dude, did you not here, we're trying to not get them into an awkward position" Kassidy said.
"Yeah, so we'll all go, The country fair's coming up, we could set them up on a "Date", but without them thinking we've set them up on a "Date" " Tuck explained.
"Or we could set them up on something smaller, just to start off, then we could take them to the Country Fair" Dylan proposed. With the four others nodding their heads agreeing, before making out their plan.
Meanwhile downstairs, Bailey was folding the laundry when Beau came in from feeding the horses.
He looked like he had been through hell and back, his trousers had been ripped in parts, hay was sticking out of his shirt, hat missing, and his hair looked like he had just rolled out of bed on a bad day.
"Wow, you look like you've been caught in a tornado" Bailey said looking over at the state of the man.
"Yeah, things didn't go to well" Beau said walking over to the nanny and helping her fold the clothes.
"Hey, these are clean clothes" Bailey said.
"And these are clean hands" Beau replied.
"You sure?" Bailey asked, with Beau nodding.
"So how did that happen" Bailey said hinting to the obvious state of Beaus clothing.
"Nothing, the horse just got spooked when I was taking her out on a stroll" Beau chuckled.
"Huh, I thought My Girl didn't go for a stroll's on Wednesday afternoons." Bailey questioned.
"She doesn't" Beau said quickly realizing what he had just said.
"So, you want to tell me what really happened?" Bailey asked quietly, With Beau going deep red in the cheeks.
"I got scared, tripped over some hay, lost my hat. Came running back in here" Beau said, hoping Bailey wouldn't question.
"Scared? Scared of what? Is there a snake!?" Bailey said freaking out.
"No, no there's no snake Bailey, it's nothing" Beau said laughing at her cute reaction.
"Well, it doesn't sound so small to me, what is it" Bailey said picking another t-shirt out of the basket and folding it up.
"You'd just laugh" Beau said getting embarrassed.
"I won't" Bailey said.
"It was a chicken" Beau whispered quickly.
"A what?" Bailey asked not quite sure if she heard him right.
"A chicken" Beau said a little louder.
Bailey tried to sniffle her laughter, turning away from the man hoping her emotions would calm down.
"I told you, you would laugh" Beau said, secretly enjoying the sound of her laugh.
"I'm sorry Beau, but a chicken. You're the owner of a ranch, Not many ranch owners are scared of chickens" Bailey apologized trying to calm her laughter, making Beau blush looking at her pure joyfulness.
"Well, this Ranch owner is" Beau said folding another shirt, trying to stop himself from blushing so hard.
"Do the kids know?" Bailey asked calming down.
"No, and you're not telling them." Beau said.
"Okay, whatever you say" Bailey said, still internally giggling. Hard to imagine someone like Beau scared of chickens.
"Promise me you won't tell them" Beau said seriously.
"I promise" Bailey said.
"But now we've got to get the chicken back in the chicken coop" Bailey hinted pulling Beau by the hand to the door.
"No-No, no way am I going back out there" Beau said denying Baileys order.
"Come on, you don't have to put the chicken back, just come with me to do it" Bailey said, pleading look in her eyes making the man crumble.
"Okay, fine" Beau said following Bailey outside into the barn where the chicken was still pecking t the hay, and horse feed.
Beau tensed up seeing the chicken there.
"It's fine Beau, trust me" Bailey said catching and picking up the chicken in her arms.
Beau followed Bailey to the chicken coop, opening the door to the yard. But as Bailey went to place the chicken down, she flew (or rather tried flying) out of Bailey's arms. Shocking and blinding the both of them from the feathers and noise bailey tripped on a stone trying to grab the chicken.
Falling onto Beau. The both of them hitting the ground, Beau caught her before she fell hard on top of him. Their lips now inches apart. Beau looked at her lips then to her eyes, Bailey doing the same.
Both of them thinking the same thing. But then Bailey quickly got up off of Beau, helping him to his feet.
"Uh sorry" Bailey said the two of them now standing up.
"All good, you alright?" Beau asked feeling the awkward tension in the air.
"Yeah, you?" Bailey said awkwardly. Beau nodding in response.
Bailey quickly grabbing the runaway the chicken and putting her back into the coop.
"Thanks" Beau said, Bailey smiled in response, saying all good.
The two walking back into the house. In dead silence.
One question plaguing Beau's mind the entire time. "If he could do it again, would he kiss her?"
Internally terrified with both answers.
