Hey guys. Now, I know that my previous chapter wasn't that good, and I should have taken more time with it, and I will try revising it after this chapter is published, but for now, let's start the next chapter of the Sun's saga.
For a while, my sister and I had to stay in the local orphanage. She and I helped out cleaning the dishes, and she even talked to many of them during Dinner.
Every day, we did that.
"Hey, what's your name?"
I didn't answer him.
"Hey, want to join us?"
I shook my head.
"Want to talk?"
I shook my head again.
I wasn't going to give them memories with me. I would make them hate me as both Roshini and I left there. Every day, I just ate, cleaned, then slept. Over and over again.
Every night, I held her close to me, and she cried into my arms. I stayed strong, for once, and comforted her.
"I promise, Roshini. I will kill every last demon. I'll bring you back your humanity." I told her sleeping self on our last night.
On every night before that.
However, we stayed there, in that cramped bed, in that small orphanage, in that packed City.
When I went to bed, every night, I would have nightmares.
During the nightmare, all I could see was red, a bloody red view, with my parent's carcass lying on the floor and table. Then, voices joined, asking,
"Why didn't you save them? You couldn't even listen to their last wish, to watch a movie with them. And now what? You wouldn't ever see them again."
In the middle of the night, I shot up and screamed, but then absorbed the situation around me, and I swallowed my fear. Tears settled on my face, but I just laid back down on the cramped bed of the orphanage, next to my sister, and swallowed a night of nightmares.
'Come on. You've been weak all this time. You can't be that, ever again.'
On the morning of our last day, however, my sister was still sleeping.
"Roshini?"
I tried to shake her awake.
No response.
"Roshini?"
No response.
Then, the images from last night haunted me, and I looked at the sheets.
'No. No. No. NO. NO.'
I looked over her body, trying to see if any of the previous wounds she had reopened. Thankfully, no blood seeped from her body. That didn't ease my worries, however, as she didn't even open her eyes. I still felt her chest and stomach rising and falling, but her eyes remained closed.
"She's going to be alright."
I jumped up, and looked in front of me, only to see… Nezuko, wearing a bright pink and purple Kimono, with the extra stitching and broken fabric being noticable across the entire dress. It was "well worn" so to speak, with the colors looking to have faded after a supposed century.
"She is going through the same process I have gone through when I was a demon. She needs time to sleep, as she has to heal multiple injuries. Since she isn't consuming humans for sustenance… she will remain unconscious."
I was… horrified.
"So, she won't wake up for maybe even days unless I feed her a human?!"
Her lips formed a thin line.
"Unfortunately, yes."
Tears filled my eyes. I broke down again.
'Why couldn't I stop this?'
I choked out while my tears fell to the floor. I tried clearing them, but they continued to fall down my face.
"If only… I could have been there-"
"There was nothing you could have done."
I looked up at her, angry, lashing out at anyone who wasn't my sister.
"How do you know that?! Of course there was! I could have been with them, spent that extra 30 minutes with them!"
"And what? You'd die with them. Roshini would be brotherless."
I sealed my lips shut, but I kept my focus on my future guardian, in front of me.
"If you carry that guilt forever, that maybe if you just were there, or that you were strong enough, you could have changed all this, then you won't be able to move forward. You'll always be stuck in the past, where you can't be able to save anyone."
She turned around.
"If you were there, you could have also been turned into a demon. Who would have been there to protect either of you from killing everyone around you?"
I looked down, and continued to choke out.
"But… still, if I could have done something-"
In seconds, I felt a hand on my shoulder, cold, but comforting. I didn't look up, but I
"Please… believe me. You couldn't have done anything…"
I heard a sniffle, which made me look up at my future guardian. I saw Nezuko, tears slowly dripping from her closed eyes, as if she were trying to keep it in, and be unseen by the world.
Eventually, she wiped her tears, and held my hand.
"If you want to go, we have to go soon."
I cleared my eyes, and looked off to Roshini, next to me. My future guardian sat next to me, with her cool hands gently holding onto mine to comfort me.
"She will be fine. It'll take a while before he wakes up, but she'll be fine. What's important… is what you want to do with that?"
She wrapped both of her soft hands within mine, and I felt her body cooling mine.
"You'll be leaving this life behind. You will become a criminal, in the eyes of the world, potentially forever. You will not be able to live a normal life, after you come under me. Do you still want to-"
"Yes." My fists tightened in her hands, which kept my tears at bay.
"I will do anything… to make sure my sister lives a normal life. I'll give up my life for her. I need to do that, as her older brother."
I looked at Roshini. She still was breathing, and she still had life in her, regardless of what kind of life.
"Because… She deserves a normal life after all this. I'll do whatever I have to do to make sure that happens."
She smiled, as if seeing an old memory.
"You remind me of him."
"My ancestors?"
"Both of them."
I raised my eyebrow.
"Both of them?"
She nodded, but didn't go any further, as she stood up from my bed.
"So, let us go, Dinesh."
I stood up, carrying my sister on my back with a piggy back.
'I remember, when her foot was hurt, and she was crying at school during recess when she was in second grade… I carried her to the clinic. She cried a lot, but I carried her, and made sure she was safe…'
My lips formed a soft smile, but it quickly formed a frown.
'I won't leave you behind, ever again, Roshini.'
Not many said goodbye to me leaving. No one cried, or waved. They were indifferent to my existence… which I was responsible for.
I swallowed the guilt, as I carried my sister outside the orphanage.
'At least these guys won't get hurt by me leaving…'
At the end of the day, I did what I had to do. I gently carried Roshini to the left side of the car, and sat next to her, as her brother.
Then, we went to the airport.
One of the TSA people wanted to raise an objection with me holding onto Roshini, but when he saw Nezuko, he let us both be tested together.
But, I went through, my sister en toe, and passed the TSA with my Passport and screening, and despite the complete change in my life, walking through customs was like any other time. Long lines, grumpling, a lot of running, etc. We didn't carry any suitcases, which was the only unusual part, but otherwise, we went through customs normally.
However, what I was greeted with after customs was unexpected.
Instead of traveling commercially, we just went to the airport through customs, then we went on the runway, where a freaking Private Jet was waiting for us.
Out of the jet, one guy stepped out, which made me become defensive of the person on my back.
But my future guardian just sighed in relief.
As he came to my view, I saw his wrinkled old face, grey hair, and tired, yet bright eyes. He also had misaligned teeth, but he looked rather kind.
"Hello Mrs. Kamado! Thank you for trusting us to fuel your magnificent jet."
"Thank you, Roger, for fueling. Any problems fueling, or with the-"
"No ma'am. She's running like a demon." He quickly said.
Despite the interruption, she continued smiling, and even chuckled nostalgically.
"Although, who are they, Ma'am?" The old man pointed at us.
"Oh!" She looked back at me, and a sleeping Roshini.
"These are my adopted children. Dinesh, and Roshini."
Those words felt weird, even weeks after the death of my parents.
He opened the door to the jet, and
"So, where are you going, ma'am?"
"Back to my home." She sighed nostalgically. "So we will probably have to go first to Tokyo Airport, then take an automobile to my home.
"Okay ma'am, then! Say hi to the rest of your family for me!" He chuckled, and let her, and us two, enter the plane.
During the entire flight, I constantly looked over at Roshini, looking for her to even open her eyes. But nothing happened.
"Dinesh, you don't have to worry. She's going to be fine."
"Would you say that to my ancestor, if he was still around? Not to worry about you?"
Surprisingly, that got her quiet.
"Of course I would have… but that didn't stop him."
"And, I'm sorry to say this, but it won't stop me…"
I stopped to realize that I hadn't asked what I should call her. Thankfully, she picked up on that.
"Just… call me Nezuko for now."
"You sure… mom?"
"... I won't try to replace your parents. There's nothing I can do to replace them."
She became heartfelt again.
"But… I'll try my hardest to help you grow up, in Japan."
I nodded. I couldn't answer her, because I knew I wouldn't be able to say anything of value to her. Plus, Roshini was still next to me, and I would still look over her.
For the entire 17 hour flight, I stayed awake, even when my guardian across from me started lightly snoring.
Every time I closed my eyes, I saw the nightmare I saw back in the orphanage. It kept me awake, and kept me looking over Roshini.
Finally, after an excruciating 17 hours of non stop flying, and with my tiredness at an absolute peak, we finally landed, and went through customs in Japan. Roshini was still asleep, so I remained with her, and instead of carrying her, I held her hand in mine as I looked at the massive Tokyo Airport.
We had gone past security, and arrived at the exit, which made me see a small cafe near the exit.
"Hey, Dinesh?"
I turned to face Nezuko, carrying a small purple suitcase with her, and me carrying a backpack for all my stuff.
"Would you like to eat anything warm? Like a dumpling?"
I sighed, taking in a deep breath.
"No, I'm good. Can I have mochi ice cream or something, though?"
She seemed… confused.
"It's winter. It's near freezing, and it's midnight. And you want Mochi?"
I shrugged. "I don't get cold. I wear short sleeves when it's below freezing."
She sighed. "You are a lot like your ancestor in that regard."
She muttered that, but she ordered Mochi for me regardless.
I quietly ate it, and she quietly drank the tea she ordered.
We sat in awkward silence for a few minutes. She tried initiating small talk, like how am I feeling, how did I sleep, and all that stuff, but I answered with a lie every time, not willing to tell her the truth yet. But she looked at me, trying to see what I was doing, while she continued to drink her tea. Then, she put it down.
"Are you alright?"
I was confused.
"What do you mean?"
She sighed.
"I know you didn't get much sleep last night. Is it because of the nightmares?"
I didn't answer.
"Look, you can tell me what you want, but just please… don't block me out."
A tinge of guilt flooded my head, but I didn't react.
"I'll be fine. But… I have a few questions. Can I ask them?"
She nodded, her legs crossed, and her hands in her lap, almost preparing herself for something.
"So," With my mouth full with Mochi, I asked.
"How did you know our family again? And how did you know we were in trouble with that guy?"
I spoke that to her, but she didn't seem to understand what I said.
"Finish what is in your mouth first before speaking. Jeez..."
She seemed like she was going to ask about if my parents taught me anything about proper etiquette, but her own realizations kept her from finishing.
"Well… as I said, you mother was friends with my great-"
"Yes, I know that. But that's still a far fetched thing to make you adopt not only their children, but clothe them as well, and bring them across the whole world. What did we have that made us so valuable to you?"
"Well…" She nostalgically looked at me, almost to the point where I was embarrassed.
"You have the same reddened eyes as my brother, and the same drive in your eyes. Roshini has gone through something very similar to what I have gone through. But the difference is, she won't be hunted, or ostracized, like I was in the past."
"Yeah. I'd protect her from anything like that anyways."
She smiled. "That attitude, also, reminds me of him."
"Though, how did you know we were in danger?" I repeated.
"Well…" She coughed. "As I already told you, I'm a demon as well. Which means I have connections to T- Muzan himself. I have mostly resisted the curse he has created, and operate independently from him, but I can still take advantage of his connection to me to see where he is."
She seemed to slip her tongue, which I noticed. But I wasn't going to point it out now.
"Lastly, why did you take me to Japan? To feel nostalgic?"
I bit into the Mochi, filling my mouth again with flavor and energy.
She shook her head, a serious expression painting her lips.
"No. I've brought you here to train you."
Finishing her tea, she dragged me to the unusual baggage sized area, with my mochi and my sister in hand.
Then, we stopped at it, where she showed her ticket.
Two Unusually sized bags.
Then, the conveyor belt continued moving, and then, sure enough, two bags came out.
"Where did those come from?"
She smiled.
"I got the materials in America, but this… would have never seen the light of day outside of my country, in my time."
I finished my mochi, and threw it into a nearby trash can, leaving my left hand empty.
"Now, here is your gift." She picked up one of the items, and handed it to me.
"Open it when we get home. You'll like it."
I felt the weight of the package. It felt heavy, and I tossed it a few inches in the air.
"Make sure you are careful with your package!" She exclaimed.
I listened, a little bit frightened by Nezuko's loud voice.
She sighed once again. "Jeez. Even my brother was more responsible than this. At least he knew when to be serious. And he didn't throw that Katana out whenever he felt like it."
My eyebrow raised, as one of her previous sentences stuck with me.
"Though… home?"
She bent her knees slightly to make me at her eye level. Looking at my Crimson eyes with her pink eyes, ones that, despite the fear and anger present within it, overall held a kind, compassionate look. She also held a slight smile, inches away from my face.
"Yes. Our home."
She held my hand, and this time, I didn't resist as much as she took me to the exit of the Airport.
Could I ever see her as my mom? No. No matter how much I tried, the most I could see of her is as an aunt. But, she adopted me, when no one else did. She will train me to defeat the demons that continue to threaten our lives. She gave me a weapon, not because she wants me to fight, but because I wanted to fight.
'She may not be my mom… but she's trying hard… Maybe…'
She looked back as she held her luggage in one hand and my hand in another. She looked back at me with joy.
I smiled slightly at her as well.
'Maybe she can be my family.'
And that's the Third chapter of The Sun's Saga. I didn't do as well rushing the earlier chapter, so I wanted to take longer to make this better. Anyways, if you liked it, or dislike it, review or comment down below what you thought of it.
