Chapter 3-so many plans, so little time

"Ah, there you are. The esteemed traitor of the brotherhood. Welcome to the Minutemen, Mr. Joel. I hear you have some exceptional skills in many other facets besides infiltration."

Nate was staring down a man in what looks to be like in his early thirties. He is dressed in a dirty tan suit and had a very sleazy look on his face. The type of face that said 'I'm gonna scam you for all of your caps and you will not even think twice about it'

"Hello General Nate! What a fine pleasure it is to finally meet you! How might a man like me be of service to you?"

"I'm not gonna beat around the bush here." Nate said with a serious look. "I am in need of a person who is, not confined by the the chains that are the laws. You see, before the Minutemen set up the judicial system, I was the one that personally made the... sketchier moves to help the Minutemen grow. Some things that the good citizens of the Minutemen would not be too happy if they found out the good General did."

"But if a traitorous conman did it..." Joel continued

"No one would bat an eye." Nate finished. "Mr. Joel, how would you like to be my partner in literal crime. I will make sure that you will be paid handsomely."

"Oh this should be fun! I'll be honest, I've never had a person of such high power give me a job before! I wholeheartedly accept Mr. General. It will be a 'pleasure' to work with you. However, I'm sure I will be doing some very dangerous work. So I require a big, let's say, upfront pay."

"Go on" Nate narrowed his eyes

"Special island! I've had my eyes on it for quite a while! Here is the deal, General. If you give me that island, I get to make it my own little play place, And if you promise to stay away from it, I will do whatever you desire." Joel said in a low tone with a devilish smile.

"Hmm... you have yourself a deal. Mr... Do you have a last name?"

"No. It's Joel" he grinned "Just Joel."

"Well I look forward to our partnership Mr. Joel.

Joel walked out of the office building with an evil grin. Gleeful that his plan to, One, get on the General's radar, and two, secure a cushy job for the foreseeable future has succeeded with flying colors. Although he hates working under someone, he is required to join up with that bastard General to further his operations.

That raider attack made Nate realize one thing. Simple Scrap walls and flimsy turrets won't stop an actual serious attack from anyone who knows what they are doing.

So he mapped out a big plan that has been brewing inside his patriotic head for a while now. 'Why don't we build our own city? Just like before the war. Why don't we start fulfilling some of the promises our propaganda tells my people? "Rebuilding the American way of life." I like the sound of that.'

'We are going to have to take out the major threat in my way first. 'The Institute' I have already been to their base and seen all there is to see. Including the bastard director.'

'The director of the institute is not my son. Shawn died in that freezing vault over two hundred years ago. The institute stole a baby and raised him to be a monster. Cold. Calculating. Cunning. A perfect director. I wish I could have been there to change it but I wasn't. I was slowly thawing out in that chamber like the world's most fucked up turkey.'

sigh* 'I need to make plans to raid the Institute and blow it sky high. But first, I need to steal every plan, schematic and supply I can from that little bunker that they have. I also need to boost my army to complete the raid. And with that, I need money. Lots of it. That's why I hired that snake Joel. His experience in swindling the big players of the wasteland for all their caps will help tremendously.'

'I should start by training up my army'

Nate picked up his telephone and called up the barracks.

Four young Minutemen sat in the Sanctuary barracks.

"What do you think about the General, Zach?"

"I don't like him. I think he's secretly a prick"

"Oh come on! You think everyone you first meet is a prick! He personally saved all our asses a few days ago!"

"I don't know Mike. Something about him doesn't sit well with me. I especially don't like all the propaganda on every wall in this shithole town."

"I, for one, think the General is AWSOME!"

"Of course you like the General, Dave." Zach said with a snarky attitude

"What is there to not like about him? He single handedly revived the Minutemen, brought peace to a quarter of the commonwealth, and let us wear FREAKING POWER ARMOR!"

" I second that opinion, you know, without the weird fanboy stuff" a fourth voice spoke up

"Maya! I'm not a fanboy! I just think the General is really freaking cool!"

"That's exactly what a fanboy is, Dave, you're just in denial" maya said with a bratty flare.

"Uh, whatever you are just jealous because he seemed to like me more than you three!"

"Yeah, 'cause you totally kissed his ass!" Zach said

"Ready as I'll ever be, General!" Maya said in a mocking tone. "Ugh! I almost shot you right then and there!"

There was an awkward silence between the four and mike tried to break it by asking another question.

"So where did you all come from? I was born in a vault in D.C. Zack is from all the way across the country. A place called the Mojave!"

"Yeah, my parents migrated here when I was young. I lived in a place called Louisiana for a few years until we decided to get the hell outta dodge. That whole area is filled with nothing but swamp and ugly women." Zach stated

" after that we moved to the commonwealth. We moved into diamond city and actually became neighbors with Mike. That's how we know each other."

"That's a cool story! Not as cool as mine though! I was born in West Virginia in a remote town in a wooded area. I am actually descended from the original vault dwellers of vault 76! In fact, my great, great grandpappy is Ranger Dave himself!" Dave paused dramatically for an applause, a look of shock, anything! But it never came.

"Who?" Maya said

"Oh come on! You don't know Ranger Dave? Hero of West Virginia? Ring any bells?!"

"No"

"D:"

"What about you Maya?" Mike said

"Oh I am nothing special. I was born a few miles from here on a family farm. There were frequent raider attacks so as soon as I saw the Minutemen, I immediately joined. The reason is; one, to make a difference, and two, I never really traveled far from my farm. Never even went to diamond city. I wanted to see more of the world and joining the Minutemen was the best way to do both of those things.

Just then the drill Sgt. of the Sanctuary Barracks barged in.

"You four, get to the General's office now! He wants to see you!" "Well, what are ya waitin' for? GO! GO! GO!

AUTHOR NOTE-

wow a lot got done this chapter! We introduced Joel as the spy. We planed the rebuilding of Fortress Sanctuary. And we introduced the four young soldiers as actual characters! If you could get the reference, Mike and Zack are from the YouTube channel MikeBurnFire. They make an awsome New Vegas Series that I really recommend. Dave is actually supposed to be Ranger Dave (if that wasn't obvious enough) and Maya was originally going to be the main character. This was originally supposed to be from a Minuteman's perspective but I thought that this idea would be more interesting.

Reviews are appreciated.

Until next time,
