As the months went on, Eren and Mikasa continued living their lives like this. In the morning they'd cook breakfast together, which mostly consisted of leftovers from the night before or something they had put up. Later that afternoon after cleaning up everything from breakfast (and oftentimes things from the night before) they'd hunt for lunch and dinner before doing any garden work that needed to be done. Later that night they'd cook dinner together before bathing and going to bed...except more than often to bed wasn't what they were doing and instead the hours where they got to show their most intimate selves.

Of course, this schedule didn't always didn't go as planned. Sometimes they'd wake up late and skip breakfast, heading straight to their daily chores, while sometimes as soon as the two woke up having sex was one of the first things that came to mind. Needless to say, they loved their lives now and wouldn't trade those for the world. Now, winter was right around the corner, and they didn't know what they were to expect.

"Morning sleepy," Eren says to Mikasa as she comes out of their bedroom and into the kitchen. A yawn escapes her lips as she takes a seat at the table. "Goodmorning," she mumbles, sure that he was able to hear her. Eren places some breakfast and some tea in front of her, giving her a quick peck on the lips while doing so.

"How late is it?" Mikasa questions, sipping her tea. "It's already afternoon," he comments, placing some dishes in the sink. "But it's fine. I've already gone hunting for today," he says.

"You actually caught something?" Mikasa asks, half-joking and half not. Eren wasn't the best at hunting...or fishing or gardening. He had learned a lot though and was gradually getting better. Eren scoffs. "Yes. You've been so tired so I've been trying my hardest,"

He was right. She didn't know why she was so tired. Usually, they evened out the work if they weren't doing it together but recently, she slept as soon as she sat down. It didn't matter where. She had even fallen asleep doing garden work a few days ago. Mikasa stands up, kissing his cheek. "I know. And thank you," she says. "Do you think we could head into town soon? I think my clothes are getting smaller..." she trails.

"You're gaining weight?" he questions.

She shrugs. "I think so. Maybe I've been eating too much," and she leaves it at that, even though both knew that was a bunch of bull. Sure she had been more tired recently, but she still was active. And even with the extra food, she wasn't eating a lot. She was eating unusually. And then there was nausea and morning sickness too. In Eren's mind, there was no way she should've been gaining weight.

"We can go soon. I'll go out and hunt a boar or something to sell and then we'll get you some new clothes. Some extra blankets too," Eren says.

And as the days pass, Mikasa's symptoms continue to develop and get worse. They weren't sure what was wrong. At times she could be perfectly fine and then seconds later she'd be curled up over the toilet throwing up. It was cold out, so having a cold was a reasonable answer. All until Mikasa realized that she had missed her period. Twice, for that matter. They were so busy preparing for winter that she hadn't noticed, or it at least slipped her mind.

Although she was fairly innocent, she wasn't a dummy. She knew what missing her period meant, especially now that she and Eren were sexually active. She possibly could be pregnant...not even possibly, she was practically sure. Why else would she have gained weight and missed her period? Plus nausea and throwing up. It all made sense now.

And while she was happy as could be to be having a baby with Eren, the love of her life, she was just as scared. Eren didn't have much time to live. He had four years left. In four years their baby would only be about four. Would they even remember having their father?

This exact thing racked her mind for days, all until it was time to head into town. Instead of riding her horse like usual, she and Eren shared one this time. They weren't picking up a lot of things and would be finished soon.

The first thing they do is get Mikasa the clothes she needs. Like she imagined, she went up two sizes which made her worry even more. After getting her clothes they grabbed blankets. Mikasa was sure they were heading home after this, all until Eren stopped at a certain house.

"Eren?" she questions. "Where are we?" she adds, confusion laced onto her face. "We're at a doctors house since...I'm worried for you, Mika," he says. She couldn't blame his worry, she was just as worried as him. Because if she wasn't pregnant, although she was very sure she was, she didn't know what else she could.

They enter the house, immediately welcomed and met. She tells the doctor, who happens to be a woman named Emily who symptoms while they also run as many tests as possible. A few minutes later, she's given a cup to pee in and they're left with a few hours to wait for results.

"We have a few hours...do you want to go into town and look around?" Eren asks her. He hadn't said anything, but he could tell the look of distress on her face. No secrets, that's what they had promised each other yet here she was keeping her emotions bottled up. He couldn't blame her though...he had done the same thing, and much longer than she has. "It's better than sitting around and worrying," he adds. Mikasa sighs. "You're right," she says with a stand. They exit the doctor's house, with promises about being back in the next five hours and head back into town. This time without the horses. The town wasn't very far from where they previously were. It was within walking distance so they make it there in no time.

He's worried. Mikasa thinks to herself. She could tell. He glanced back at her every few seconds, even if they were holding hands. Not just that, he seemed nervous. He was shaking, she could feel it. She needed to tell him of her suspicions...what she was sure to be true.

"Are you hungry?" Eren questions her. She was about to shake her head no when she realized that she was actually very hungry. She had eaten breakfast this morning for sure, but minutes later she had thrown in all up. The only thing that had sat right on her stomach was tea. She was practically starving, to be honest.

"Yes," she answers truthfully. Eren looks around, examining the many food stalls. "Is there any particular thing you want?" Eren questions her. Mikasa turns to look all around her, examining the place until her eyes land on a stall selling a delicious smelling pasty. "Over there," she says. The two head over the stall, where they buy a chocolate-filled pasty which Mikasa devours almost instantly. She had never been the one for sweets so this was indeed interesting. Once she's halfway finished eating her second one, Mikasa gazes up at Eren. I have to tell him. She thinks.

"Eren," Mikasa says. He looks up at her. "We need to talk," she says. Eren nods. He figured as much. Especially with the way she's been acting recently. She blushes, hiding her face in her hands just a bit. Now really wasn't the time to get embarrassed but she couldn't help it. To begin with, she didn't know how Eren was even going to react. She quickly shakes those thoughts away. This was something she needed to do. She had to tell him, whether she ended up being pregnant or not there were no secrets to be kept between them.

"I have to tell you something," She says, placing her half-eaten pastry down so that her hands could fiddle with the end of her skirt. A new nervousness overtakes Eren; scared of what possibly could be going on. Scared for what possibly could be happening. What was she trying to tell him? Just the thought made him tense.

"What is it?" He asks slowly and hesitantly.

"I'm sure you've noticed..." she begins, almost immediately wanting to back out. Her hands, sweaty and her throat dry. She was going to do this.

"I think I might be pregnant," Mikasa says.

The words come out almost in a whisper. She doesn't know why she whispers the...maybe out of scariness and shyness but they do. She watches as Eren's eyes widen. He doesn't talk for a while, taking in the past few months and everything that's been going on. He wasn't a fool; he knew what unprotective sex could do yet just like one he continued.

"Think?" he questions. She nods. "I'm not sure...although I have missed my period and have been having a few symptoms. Then again that could just be stressed I just- I don't know," she says. Eren wraps an arm around her comfortingly. "Hey, it's okay. Whatever happens, happens. You're the love of my life, Mikasa. Having a child with you is something I'm overjoyed about it's just...I...I only have four years. I'd leave you both in four years," he says.

Mikasa almost wants to cry. This whole time as she realized that she just might be pregnant, she's been avoiding the fact that without a doubt Eren would leave her in four years. It wasn't a very happy thought, but with a child, she didn't know how things could go.

"Don't freak out just yet," Eren comforts. "If you're pregnant then...I'll be there for as long as I can." he wraps his arms around her tighter. "Let's just not think about that okay? At least not yet..." he asks. She nods, wishing and hoping to agree with that.

They finish their pastries and explore the rest of the town together for their remaining hours. Once a few hours have passed, the two head back to the doctor's house. Their greeted with a smile and told them to sit down and wait, another woman there stating that it wouldn't be long until she arrived.

Minutes later, Doctor Emily comes into the room. "Welcome back you two," she greets. She quickly darts her eyes to the papers in her hand. "I have the results back, and firstly, I just want to say congratulations. You two seem to be expecting," she says before rambling off about many other things such as checkups and a midwife, but Mikasa was barely listening as her mind drifted to other places and other thoughts. She knew she wasn't supposed to think about Eren dying, but now that they were expecting she couldn't help it. All she wanted was for them to be together happily yet it seemed with each newly added part to their story a bad ending was always in sight.

They exit Doctor Emily's home after receiving information and promising to return in a month for a checkup. The trip home was quiet, silent other than the sound of the wind and horse.

Mikasa almost wants to lock herself away in the room a cry her eyes out. She didn't know how to feel nor act. "Mikasa?" Eren questions, noticing the tears slipping out of her eyes. He pulls her close to her and into a hug. "Hey everything's gonna be fine," he reassures. Mikasa shakes her head. "No. No, it's not. Everything's gonna be bad... you're going to die and I'll be left having to explain to a toddler that they won't ever see their father again. So much trauma...they'd be like you and me," she says, blurting out the last few parts.

"Can you stop thinking so negatively?" he snaps. His voice wasn't angry, but he didn't raise it just a bit. "I get it, I'm going to die, but I came here to be happy with you for the rest of my life. I'm so excited to be having a child with you, Mika. I love you so, so much." he says, kissing her lips while his arms caress her stomach. "And I'll love our child just the same. I want to spend these four years with you both...even if I'll have to leave you."

"Plus, there's no way our child will end up like us. We went through trauma that left us orphaned and without so much as a parent to guide us but this baby will still have you," Eren adds. Mikasa lets out another sob, wrapping her arms around him even tighter. "I know I-I'm just going to miss you...badly," she hadn't thought about it now, but what exactly would she do when Eren died?

And they sit there, wrapped in each other's arms in desperate thoughts; trying to figure out where the hell they'd go from here. They'd try to be happy together but only would that cover up the sad future that surely awaited.
