Chapter 3. Finding hope...
Jack flew back to the North Pole, Pitch's words flowing into his mind. "I'm young and powerful! Because I've got believers!" Believers? "Oh I remember when you came back. A whole 40 years later." 'I go back in 40 years?' "They call you old man winter." Old man winter? "Oh! I know! The Bermuda triangle, yes, lots of people have gone missing there I hear! HAHAHA!" Bermuda triangle?
'What does it mean? How did I get here and why? How do I get back? Where do I go? How can I help to fix this problem with the Guardians?' Jack thought. Everything was so confusing to him now, he felt lost and didn't know where to go, or where to start. It was like he had a lack of knowledge.
There was a sudden vumming sound, and Jack barely had enough time to dash out of the way of the on coming plane. "Holy mother of Jesus-!" Jack screamed. "What the heck was that!" He wondered what that thing was that passed him. 'Probably another kind of technology.' He thought.
Jack made it to the North Pole just as the sun started to peak through the dense clouds.
He entered just to find Tooth sobbing into her hands. North was sitting in his rocking chair silently with a frown. Jack walked over and hesitantly put his hand on her shoulder. Totally expecting her to whip around with the pliers in her hand. But she only had a startled jolt, before she realized it was Jack and hugged his hand to her cheek.
"I'm sorry Tooth." Jack said solemnly. "Is there anything I can do to make you happy? And you to North?"
Tooth sniffed. "Your teeth? It's been so long since I saw or even had any." Tooth asked.
"Probably not my teeth Tooth. That won't serve anyone if you take them." Jack said. Tooth started to sob again, making Jack feel bad. So Jack sat down beside her.
"Do you remember when you were beautiful? And you could fly around the world in a heart beat? When the little tooth fairies collected the children's teeth? And everyone was happy?" Jack asked gently, getting a good idea on how to fix things with the Guardians. Tooth nodded, but only cried harder. "How would you like to have that back?"
Tooth looked up at him, feeling a tug of hope in her chest. "Really?"
Jack nodded. "But you have to stop crying first." Jack said, booping her nose. Making her smile.
"I remember the good old days when you always did that." Tooth said. Jack grinned.
"Well why not do it again?" Jack asked, and stood up. "That goes for you to North. How would you like to have your youth back?" North clapped his shaky hands together.
"AYE!" North shouted. "Where do we start?"
Jack looked around, searching for... "Hold on, I'll be right back." Jack said, and ran out of the room and to Norths old office. There he kept many creative things. The place was all worn down and dusty, broken old toys lay on the ground and on tables. Jack grabbed a few tools and a block of wood, and ran back to where North and Tooth waited.
Jack woke up North, who appeared to be sleeping. He opened his eyes and blinked them, his eye sight focusing on the wood and tools in Jacks hands.
"Here." Jack offered. "You start carving and get that rusty old engine running again." Jack encouraged North.
North took them from Jack with a small smile, and shakily drew some designs on the wood with a pencil.
"And Tooth, uh, you stay here and don't let that smile leave your face until I come back." Jack said.
"Where are you going Jack?" Tooth asked.
"To get you something you need." Jack said, and flew back to Pitch's lair.
After going down in the hole, he flew deeper inside, past where he and Pitch had spoke. He came to a cave that was much bigger then the other caves. On the ceiling hung many, many cages. There was something inside them. On the floor laid heaps of golden boxes, Jack recognized them as the tooth boxes. Jack flew up to the cages, and there sit the tiny tooth fairies. They were sleeping. Jack felt worried and concerned. What happened to the tooth fairies? Some stirred and woke up. Their feathers were gray like Tooth's, and they looked tired and miserable.
"It's okay, I'm going to get you out of here as soon as I can." Jack said quietly. He heard Pitch down below, grunting and squawking as he tried to climb the stairs.
"ALMOST THEEEERE! AAAH! OW! MY SHINS!" His voice was shrill.
Jack heard. He snickered at the sounds Pitch was making. Jack felt bad for the poor guy, but knew he deserved every bit of it.
Jack opened the cages doors, but the little tooth fairies could not fly. So he gently stuffed some of them in his pocket and placed a few on his shoulders. He flew down to the tooth boxes and grabbed a few of them, before carefully flying back to the North Pole. The little tooth fairies chirped and weakly hung on to Jack. The cold of the North making them shiver. "It's okay, we'll get there soon." Jack told them.
Once they did though, he saw North chopping and carving away rapidly at a few wood blocks. He had a great big smile on his face and he looked so full of energy. His beard was no longer gray, but a soft white. He had less wrinkles and looked much stronger.
Tooth watched him intently with a bright excited smile. Her hands were clasped together and her feathers had a slight tint of color to them.
The air was so full of hope. Jack felt hope for his friends. The little tooth fairies chirped, and Tooth looked over and gasped, her wings slightly moved as she went over and picked them up, tears running down her cheeks.
Tooth: "OH! My little fairies! Thank goodness you're alright!" She cried. Jack smiled, thankful to see her happy, and North.
"YES! De tooth fairies are back and so will both Bunny and Sandy!" North shouted with excitement, his voice was no longer raspy, but was deeper like the North Jack was used to hearing. Jack was so grateful to see them getting better, but they weren't quite young yet.
'This will take a few trips.' Jack thought. He went around and got North a few more pieces of wood for him to carve. And then went back to Pitch's lair to retrieve the remaining tooth fairies. It was hard work for Jack, but he succeeded. It made it worth his time in the lair though, hearing Pitch squawk at every bit of hard work he had to do, like climbing the stairs. Jack couldn't stop laughing at him. Tooth was so so happy to see and have her little tooth's back again.
But there was something missing. Jack tried to think of another way that he could help them. It took him hours to figure it out, and while he thought, he watched Tooth and North laugh and play games. Jack played along with them of course. The little tooth fairies were being catapulted out of one of Norths brand new toys, being caught by everyone.
But once he figured out how to help them, it was like a lighting match, and he flew out of the North Pole in a rush. Jack flew to the closest town or city he could find. He looked around, he still wasn't used to everything-at all. It was so loud with the trucks, cars and other things that were making weird noises. What happened to the nature? He saw everyone looking at their phones and TV's, computers, laptops, etc. (Jack did not know what any of that was by the way) The buildings were different, the houses were different. There wasn't any horses or wagons, no farm animals. Jack felt sad, was this really what the world turns into? This wasn't something that Jack would call normal. 'What is this dark magic?' Jack thought.
Jack flew to a window of a house and looked inside. There were a couple of kids reading a book and writing stuff down. They looked bored and tired. Miserable, almost. So Jack made the wind harshly blow against their window, until they looked up. Now that he had their attention, he used the trick he's always loved to use, paint frost on windows. Frost that would turn into little animals or figures and dance around their room. The children gasped in awe. And tried to catch the animals. The frost animals changed into different things. Like a rabbit that hid eggs in the grass, and a little man that gave children good dreams. Even the Tooth fairy and Santa Claus. And Jack Frost.
"Wow! Do you see that? That's so cool! Wow!"
"It's so pretty..."
The kids said. Who both had black hair.
Jack continued to do this with every house that had a child in it. Until there was gold and light brightening up the night sky. Jack felt a gush of hope flare in him. Even more so, when he saw the Northern lights shine across the sky...
To be continued...
