The smell of fresh food and freshly mown grass filled my nose when I woke up, I instantly sat up and looked around. I was in an unfamiliar place, wasn't I just in Diagon Alley? Have I been captured again?
I was in a front room filled with mismatched sofas and chairs littered around, I jumped when I saw a familiar face looking at me with suspicion, "Professor Lupin?" I asked and he nodded, "Wait, where am I?"
"You're at The Burrow, the home of The Weasleys," Lupin said slowly and I frowned.
"The Weasleys? What…how?" I asked quickly and stood up quickly, my head spun and I flopped back down running my hands through my dirty hair. "I don't-"
"I know, you're confused" Lupin cut in, "Fred and George brought you here"
"They did?"
"They found you being attacked by Death Eaters, they managed to get you to safety"
"They did?" I repeated and Lupin smiled softly and went to pat my arm but I recoiled back. He noticed and he frowned slightly. "I'm sorry" I added in a quiet voice. Lupin smiled softly again and bent down to pick something up and I flinched.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you," Lupin said and he was holding out a white towel towards me, "Molly said you can take a shower, she left some clothes for you in the bathroom"
"Molly?" I asked, tilting my head but I took the towel quickly.
"Fred and George's mother. The bathroom is the third door on the left upstairs. Come down to the kitchen when you're ready, okay? There'll be some food for you when you're done" Lupin got up slowly, trying not to startle me and he left the room. I gripped the towel in my hands and slowly made my way up the stairs.
I sighed in relief when hot water hit my skin, loosening every muscle in my body. I rolled my shoulders until I heard a click. I took my time in the shower, scrubbing every inch of my body trying my best to ignore the scars that covered a majority of my body. I even washed my hair three times before I felt even remotely clean, I needed to get the Manor off my skin. I quickly dried my hair with a charm Angelina Johnson had taught me in our third year and dressed in the clothes Mrs Weasley left for me, I was surprised to see it was a pair of Muggle jeans and a t-shirt that fit me perfectly.
I checked myself in the mirror and gasped at the girl who was staring back at me, yes this is the first time I've seen my reflection since I was captured, my cheeks were slightly sunken in and my skin was paler than I've ever seen it. I had naturally pale skin anyway but the lack of daylight made it worse and my eyes had bags underneath them and my eyes seemed dull compared to what they used to be. My hair had a little bit of life in it now but it wasn't as thick as it used to be.
I slowly walked down the stairs and towards the kitchen but I hesitated when I heard voices. "How did she seem?" I heard a male ask, I swear I recognized the voice but I couldn't pin it.
"She seemed confused and scared. She doesn't remember being found" I heard Lupin say, I chewed my bottom lip and put my head down, "She's fragile, be careful when you approach her" I shook my head and pushed open the door but I froze when all eyes fell on me. "Celeste, how are you feeling?" Lupin asked me, sending me a warm smile. I felt my shoulders relax a little bit.
Remus Lupin, our Defence Against The Dark Arts Professor in our fifth year and pretty much the only decent Professor we had. "I feel clean," I said quietly, still standing by the door, I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do so I looked around the room. I easily recognized the twins, Fred and George. After a while, I was able to tell them apart by noticing the smaller details between the two the easiest thing that set them apart was the small mole George had on his neck. A small plump woman with red hair I assumed was Molly Weasley and the older man with red hair must have been Mr Weasley, his name escapes me.
"Celeste, dear, why don't you take a seat and I'll get some food for you," Mrs Weasley said with a kind smile and I nodded slightly. I took a seat closest to the door ready to run if I needed to.
"Thank you, Mrs Weasley" I muttered as she set a plate full of food in front of me, my stomach screamed in hunger.
"Call me Molly, dear," Mrs Weasley said, she went to put a hand on my shoulder but changed her mind, "Would you like a cup of tea?" I nodded and started to eat slowly, my mouth started watering as soon as the warm food touched my tongue and I ate a little quicker, hunger taking over. I jumped when someone sat in front of me and I looked up quickly. George had sat in front of me and I shifted slightly under his gaze.
"I'm-"
"George" I cut in and he smiled softly and I nodded to his brother, "And you're Fred, I remember you, aren't you meant to be in school?" George blinked at me for a moment, "What?"
"Celeste" I turned my head to Molly with a frown, "Do you remember what happened to you?" I nodded slowly.
"I was taken from Diagon Alley during Christmas Break," I said and continued to eat.
"Well, that was about a year ago," Molly said softly and the fork dropped from my hand and landed on the floor, Molly looked at me sympathetically and I flinched again when Lupin bent down to pick up my dropped fork.
"Umm...what's the date?" I asked, my throat suddenly dry and I took a sip of my tea, relishing in the warm liquid.
"It's April 21st" George offered "1997"
"So I'm nineteen," I thought I said it in my head but George frowned.
"When was your birthday?" He asked.
"Uhh,...about 3 weeks ago. April 2nd" I said quietly and I jumped when Fred laughed.
"Sorry," Fred said quickly, "I know it's not funny it's just-"
"Your birthday's the day after ours" George interrupted and my mouth dropped open a little bit.
"You were born on April Fools?" I asked and George smiled, "That makes sense. So I've been missing for a little under a year?"
"You were presumed dead after four months," Mr Weasley said with a nod.
"I knew it" I sighed and pushed my empty plate away from me so I could rest my arms on the table, I didn't miss the looks of guilt on Lupins and Mr Weasley's faces and I shrugged, "It's okay, I'm not as bothered as I should be"
"I'm sorry, Celeste but we have to ask, who-"
"It was The Dark Lord" I interrupted Lupin and he nodded, "I'm valuable to him apparently"
"Do you know why?" Lupin followed and I quickly shook my head. I couldn't tell them about my ability, I wasn't sure if I could trust them yet, I saw George frown out of the corner of my eye and I knew that he could tell I was lying but he didn't pull me on it. "You were held captive by The Dark Lord and you don't know why?" Lupin pressed in a hard tone and I shrunk back in my seat.
"Remus!" Molly said sharply sensing my discomfort and Lupin sighed running a hand over his face and fell silent.
"Thank you for helping me, Molly," I said to the older woman softly and I looked at the twins, "Thank you for saving me, both of you. I'll forever be in your debt but I don't want to impose, I should go" I made a move to leave, George's eyes widened slightly in a bit of panic and shot his mother a pleading look.
"Celeste?" Molly's voice stopped me and I turned slowly, I forced myself to stay still when Molly approached me slowly and I wrapped a hand around the back of a chair. "If you'd like you could stay with us" I looked around the room quickly and cast my eyes downwards,
"I shouldn't," I said quietly, a bubble of panic forming in my stomach, I didn't know if I could trust these people. They could just as easily turn me back over to The Dark Lord. I would be trapped in that dark room again. I would be alone. Again.
"Celeste" I blinked at looked at George quickly, he slowly rose from his seat with his hands raised slightly in front of him and I kept my eyes on him as he moved around the table and stood in front of me making sure not to stand too close and I quickly looked down to avoid eye contact, "Hey, look at me" His voice was soft and I slowly lifted my head to meet his eyes, I felt the bubble of panic settle down slightly at the warmth in his brown eyes, "We're not going to hurt you, we only want to protect you" I shook my head slowly.
"I've heard that before," I said with a slightly bitter tone, George took a breath and stepped a little closer to me and I tensed up, my knuckles white from how hard I was gripping the chair. George looked down at my hand and slowly reached out, he hesitantly put his hand over mine and I flinched slightly.
"I'm not going to hurt you, Celeste, no one here will hurt you. I can promise you that" George spoke softly and I searched his eyes for any sign of deceit but I couldn't find any, "Trust me" I yanked my hand away, from him sharply and he realised that it was the wrong thing to say.
"Trust is earned," I said quickly and George nodded.
"Then I'll earn it" George replied with determination, I looked away and I was surprised to see the room had been emptied, no one was in the room except me and George. "But I can't earn it if you leave"
"But-"
"Stay" George cut in quickly and I barely covered the flinch, "Stay with us, Celeste. Let us help you"
"Alright, I'll stay" I gave in, there was something in George's eye that made me cave. "Only for as long as I'm wanted"
I fell into an easy routine after being at The Burrow for a week, I stayed with Molly even though George offered to have me at their shop but I didn't want to get in the way of Fred and George's work. So I stayed and kept Molly company, helped her around the house.
George came by every day, he said he was checking in with me but I think he was afraid I would bolt overnight. I had noticed that George had become very protective over me when Fred would come with him he'd move to suddenly sometimes causing me to flinch or he'd talk a little too loud and I'd quickly leave the room and George was quick to remind Fred to be cautious. I don't know why he was so protective of me but it did give me comfort and slowly I felt myself relaxing around him, no one had made an attempt to touch me or come too close but George always stayed close when he was around.
Mr Weasley would leave early morning for The Ministry and would come back late at night, sometimes the next morning, he kept reminding me that no one knew where I was but my name had been brought back up in The Daily Prophet six weeks after my escape and I had found an article in the paper that everyone was trying to hide from me. I looked around the kitchen and picked up the paper when I realised I was alone, Molly must have left the paper on the table by accident.
Celeste Francis May Be Alive!
Celeste Francis, the girl who went missing during Christmas Break in 1996 is believed to be alive and on the run or even in hiding and is wanted by Pius Thicknesse, who is the current head of the Department Of Magical Law Enforcement. Francis is wanted for questioning about her involvement with The Dark Lord.
It was believed that Francis was killed shortly after her disappearance but the latest developments have shown that this is not the case. Francis is now believed to be a Follower of The Dark Lord following her disappearance, we have not been able to get a report from anyone within The Ministry.
If anyone has any information on Celeste Francis please contact The Ministry Of Magic and proceed with caution, Francis is believed to be dangerous and unhinged.
I dropped the paper back onto the table and stumbled back, knocking a chair over in the process. My back hit the wall and I slid down it, I couldn't breathe properly and I felt my body growing hot, my head spinning and my heart pounding. I placed my forehead on my knees as I tried to take deep breaths but all I could manage was short panicked breaths.
How can anyone believe that I was loyal to The Dark Lord? My family had no ties to him, no history of ever being within his ranks. Dangerous and unhinged? Who has come up with this?
A sudden chill went down my spine. This was The Dark Lord trying to get me out in the open so he could capture me again, of course, he wanted me back. His precious Seer. My whole body was trembling at the idea of being his prisoner again, one article and my progress I've made in the last six weeks were undone. I was back in that room, alone and weak. I was reliving the daily torture I was trapped once again.
"Celeste!" I heard someone shouting my name and shrunk back even further, someone put their hand on my arm, I screamed and scrambled across the floor to get away from them. "Celeste!" They grabbed me by both of my arms, "Celeste, calm down, it's George" I looked up quickly, "It's okay, no one is going to hurt you" George wrapped his arms around me and rocked me back and forth slowly as I cried into his chest.
"I'm not one of them!" I cried, "I'm not one of them! I swear I'm not!"
"I know, it's okay," George said softly and he started running his hand through my hair, I forced myself to take deep breaths and I slowly stopped shaking and the sobs slowed down.
"I can't go back" I gripped George's arms and I looked at him, "Don't let me go back, please, I can't-"
"I won't, no one is going to take you, Tee" George whispered to me, I felt myself slowly relax in his arms, "You're safe, I've got you"
My eyes filled with fresh tears as I looked at George, "He's going to die. Dumbledore is going to die"
"What?" George froze and met my eyes, "What are you talking about?"
"He's going to be killed and there's nothing I can do"
