The United Nations building was attacked by dark green bodysuit wearing agents of HYDRA with the diplomats being held hostage in the assembly hall. Jennifer was smashing through the agents while Steve and Sam were helping to try and evacuate the personnel and diplomats while dealing with the nearby agents. Tony was busy firing repulsor blasts at the ones with especially advanced weapons while Peter was in his new Advanced suit using the white material on his fists for extra impact.
"That's a strike!" Peter yelled using his web to throw a HYDRA agent at some more knocking them out, Carol glared at him while blasting at the other agents. The leader of the agents was at the podium with a bomb that counting down to destroy the neighbourhood if the assembled representatives of the UN didn't surrender to HYDRA. Peter went and knocked him out and glad that his Spider-Sense still worked here said out loud "I think that I can disable this, my super duper Spider-Sense can help me find the right route to do so..."
"What and let the clown who runs amok as a vigilante in New York disable a bomb that could blow this place to sky high? I don't think so!" Carol yelled rushing to him and went to grab it as Peter protested. The bomb detected Carol's cosmic power and amplified the speed of the countdown and set it off.
The holograms of the area using the Stark Industries technology known as the Binary Augmented Retro Framing (or BARF as it was unaffectionately called) shut down in the training area. Watching from above was Coulson and some personnel and a hologram of T'Challa. "Sorry to say but Turtle Bay has been blown up along with several diplomats that included world leaders. World War III maybe inevitable now but there have been worse training exercises."
"Look at what you did!" Carol told Peter and he looked affronted.
"How old are you because I thought a seasoned well trained military officer wouldn't be throwing a tantrum and blame someone else for their mistake!" Peter retorted as Carol looked ready to attack him.
"Stand back Colonel Danvers because Spider-Man was right; this was supposed to help us work as a team and work with our teammates but because of your impulsiveness the session was a failure." Steve told her sternly and Carol was open mouthed to see that no one in the team was going to go to back for her.
"I would have been able to grab it and send it flying if I didn't have to wrestle it from the clown here! You think that because he was gifted a lab on a platter then he should be messing with a bomb?" Carol asked as she stormed off fuming.
"Sorry Peter but Carol can be uptight and hard to convince that she might be wrong on something when she isn't convinced that he is. Works well for Cap since he is hardly ever wrong but not so much for her and she has a harder time compromising. Plus she was nicer before but I think her experience has gotten to her head." Jennifer told Peter apologetically.
"I bet my irresistible charm will warm her ice queen heart to me eventually." Peter told her and Jennifer laughed as she came closer.
"Well it drew me to you anyway, nice use of the new suit but how about we get ourselves out of our suits." Jessica told him with a flirting voice using her finger the circle around his waist making him red in the face behind his mask. However coming up to them was Tony who was taking off his helmet.
"Nice work out there webhead and are you Jennifer's flavour of the month?" Tony asked as Jennifer glared hard at him and Peter could tell there was some tension in their history. "Okay I get that it that things ended badly and I don't judge you for going after a younger guy..." Tony muttered as Jennifer's glare hardened.
"Sorry to pry but you and Tony..." Peter asked hesitatingly as she knew both of their reputations.
Jennifer sighed and replied "yes briefly but never again... Especially since I am happy with you..."
"Wait, was it because Tony... Was bad in bed?" Peter asked kicking himself for asking even before he had finished talking and Jennifer was open mouthed and so was Tony. Jennifer began giggling and Peter was chuckling nervously as Jennifer patted him softly on the back and Tony just shook his head as he took his leave.
Up in the area looking down through the window was Coulson with several agents along with representatives. "I still remember the training session where Banner was riled up enough that it caused Galactus to eat the Earth. Agent Coulson you are correct that there have been worse training sessions." T'Challa said through his hologram.
Coulson was about to respond but another personnel worker was on his phone listening to a recent news report by J. Jonah Jameson on the Daily Bugle:
"The Avengers, a group of all powerful Superhumans who act like they know what is best to protect this planet from the threats and monsters that their presence invites to our world! I still remember when everything was normal but no we got gods and monsters threatening our lives and way of living! Take for example the masked menace known as Spider-Man as the biggest example to what I was talking about, the freaks that he fights only came around when he started swinging about our streets taking the law into his own hands! I won't rest until I convince the world the truth!"
"Sorry Agent Coulson sir but I was watching out for Avengers related news..." The agent said apologetically but Coulson brushed him off.
Carol stormed into the area followed by Steve and Sam, "Just so that you know that the bomb in the virtual scenario would have upon you picking it up would have blown up before you could have flied to a safe distance!" Coulson told her and she sighed.
"Okay, I know it was impulsiveness but I was supposed to put my trust in someone who is basically just an overgrown kid from New York..." Carol told Steve while calming down.
"He's a kid from New York who does what he wants to help people, something I know all too well." Steve replied shaking his head before sighing, "I hope that you can remember what training you had in learning to be a team player, hope we can see the old Carol that we can count on again." Steve told her as they noticed coming forward was a man in a business suit along with an older aged grey haired man with a grey goatee and a dark green business suit.
"Commander Hayward and Secretary Ross, sirs!" Carol said saluting as the men were SWORD Commander Tyler Hayward and the US Secretary of Defense Thaddeus Ross.
"At ease Colonel Danvers, I know things didn't turn out well in the ending of your little training exercise but I say it's more than reasonable to doubt that you could entrust the saftey of the world in some masked vigilante who by all accounts should have been put away long ago." Hayward said as Steve glared at them.
"A good chunk of New York express their gratitude at this masked vigilante having saved their lives more times than they count." Steve replied as Ross came forward. "Secretary Ross didn't know you would be coming over." Steve told him.
"As I didn't know that the Avengers were being brought together, I was enjoying my first good game of golf ever since my heart attack that put me out of field action and then I get a little news alert on my phone. If you ask for five years we have been doing just fine without the Avengers being called heroes while I would prefer to call them vigilantes. We need more trustworthy operatives like Colonel Danvers and not like Banner's cousin who should be locked away in a lab with her cousin who you allowed to be hidden away with my daughter." Ross told them shaking his head.
"You are hardly an unbiased perspective on that yourself with how you hunted him for years after helping create him." Steve told him and Ross glared harshly as Ross had been leading a project to create gamma infused super soldiers for the US Military with Bruce Banner working on it thinking he was working for medical purposes and an accident turned him into the Hulk. Ross had led the military unit known as the Hulkbusters to hunt him down but were forced to back down after the Hulk became known as a hero and an Avenger.
"We need a firmer hand to protect this country and planet and this will blow up in your face Rogers." Ross told him and then faced Coulson. "Is Fury ready for the assets to be deliver onto my custody and has he relented on his objection?" Ross asked Coulson who shook his head.
"He has not relented on his objection of the transfer but will comply with the World Security Council's orders; he has decided to just sit back and wait to gloat when he gets called in to clean up the mess after it blows up in your face." Coulson told him simply as they walked off. Ross shook his head as he went to make a phone call.
Steve and Tony were facing Sam, Peter, Carol and Jennifer along with a hologram of T'Challa. "We have decided to try out different scenarios in pairs to help with the team working exercises. Spider-Man, Captain Marvel we want you to be up first." Steve said as Peter gulped.
"Listen before you say anything, I was rather rash out of line earlier and I still don't have a high opinion of you but if we are going to work together... I want to give you a chance..." Carol muttered shaking his head as Peter gave a thumbs up.
"So we are team Spider-Marvel?" Peter asked as Carol was instantly regretting this.
"I have set this scenario so that you will be fighting the Kree who have broken into a SHIELD base where Ultimo is being kept and your job is to stop them before they can get him online." Tony explained as Peter put up his hand for a question.
"I heard of the Kree, blue skinned alien dudes like that Thrawn guy form the Star Wars Rebels cartoon but who is Ultimo?" Peter asked as Carol spoke up.
"An ancient giant alien robot that has been used by the Mandarin before and has destroyed all life on a planet before." Carol explained and Peter looked afraid, "For the record... Grand Admiral Thrawn was around decades before George Lucas sold his studio to Disney. He was the main villain of a trilogy of sequel books that are known as the Thrawn Trilogy and basically created the Expanded Universe." Carol told him as Peter was open mouthed behind his mask.
"You're a Star Wars nerd? Do you want to debate who shot first and I heard that in an AU comic Darth Vader turned good and got a white armor so can you please explain to me how that happened?" Peter squealed excitedly as Carol regretted opening her mouth as their teammates smiled at this.
They came through and the BARF technology was activated, they went to work fighting their way through the Kree soldiers. There were ones with more advanced weapons and Carol told her "trust me even with my power, those weapons sting. I will take care of them and focus on rescuing any hostages!" Carol told Peter and he thought that things were working fine as he complied with a salute.
They got the controls and Peter gulped at the size of the giant silver robot that was being shut down but Kree scientists were at the controls for it. "So any cracks from you like Klaatu Barada Nikto?" asked as Peter was confused underneath his mask.
"What does Army of Darkness have to do with this?" Peter asked as Carol shook her head as they went to work going through the Kree soldiers. Through the intercom they heard the other Avengers wrestling the microphone away from Tony who was shouting that he will teach Peter to appreciate the older classics.
They got to the controls as Peter looked towards it and saw that they were ready to activate Ultimo, "Hey Carol... Are we on first name terms yet? If you can cover me and give me some trust... I think that I will be able to shut this down and disconnect it from the robot..." Peter told Carol who shook her head.
"Well not giving you any trust caused World War III and it's not like the worst case scenario here is any worse than that." Carol muttered as she watched his back blasting away at the Kree soldiers as Peter did his best to go through the controls and use his Spider-Sense to ignore any dangerous combinations. He felt like he was getting ready and then it said it was disconnected from Ultimo with it shut down as the last of the Kree soldiers was dealt with.
They smiled at eachother as the holograms shut down and they walked out to clapping from their fellow Avengers.
Peter was in his bed putting the last of his stuff away while in his civilian clothes and smiled at the look of it, there was a knock and there was Carol there. "Once again I am sorry about how out of line I was especially about the death of your girlfriend. I still don't have the best opinion of you but I am willing to work with you on us being teammates and Jennifer is happy with you. I hope that i can trust you to be serious when you need to be." Carol told him as Peter gave her a smile and a thumbs up. She then passed him copies of Star Wars: Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, the Last Command and Star Wars Legends Epic Collection: Infinities. "Keep them as I have my own copies and these were just spares just in case and the Infinites will answer the question you had about white armored Darth Vader." Carol told him and Peter smiled.
"Glad to see I have another nerd to talk to!" Peter asked as Carol glared.
"Stark makes pop culture references more than you do, Steve has his own modern stuff he likes and Jennifer loves Star Trek." Carol told him and Peter thought that the fact that along with everything else his girlfriend (with it not being said by them yet, it was weird to think) is a Trekkie made her just that much better. "One more thing: Han shot first and saying otherwise will make you take it back." Carol warned him as she walked off as Peter smiled in return.
Earth-616 Carol is a Star Wars fan and in fact Goose from the movies belonged to her and she named him Chewie.
