Alec fumbled with his house keys, dropping them on the floor and swearing under his breath as he grabbed them and tried again, succeeding with opening the door. He dropped his bag on the floor by the coat rack and kicked his shoes off, his socks sliding on the polished hard wood floor.
The lights were off and it was pretty silent in the house. He assumed Daisy had gone to bed. He softly padded to her bedroom where her bedroom door was open a crack. He pushed it gently, hoping it wouldn't creak and peered inside.
Daisy was wrapped in her bed sheets, head resting on her pillow and her arm lazily dangling down. Her small lamp on her bedside table was still on and the book she had been reading had fallen on the floor. It had gone past nine and Alec imagined she would be asleep by the time he got home.
He was hoping she would still be awake but he was stuck in traffic on the way home so therefore he assumed she would hop off to bed. He was pissed off at the time but there was nothing he could have done. Alec slowly entered inside her bedroom, being careful not to make a sound as he flicked the lamp off beside her. He put the fallen book back on the bedside table and brushed his hand over her head, giving Daisy a soft caress.
Alec closed her door gently and made his way into the kitchen, fixing himself a glass of water. He had a long day and was ready to just hop in bed and fall asleep. Him and Miller were getting everything ready for Michael Lucas's trail and it meant staying for long hours, not that he wasn't use to that. With any case, Alec made sure that everything was in place so that the person responsible would go down but for this particular case, he wanted to make sure that Michael Lucas would be spending the rest of his life in prison. It was due to the fact that this boy was right next to his daughter and anything could have happened to her. He was one of the boys that had the photo of Daisy and spreading it round the school.
He didn't mention it to the chief inspector but he had already given Michael a warning along with the other boys about coming near his daughter. At least with him behind bars, he knew that Daisy was safe.
Alec knew he was being overbearing and in Daisy's eyes annoying but he couldn't let his guard down. He couldn't let another woman go through the same thing Trish went through and he certainly couldn't let anything happen to Daisy. Every time she left the house, there was a slight pain in his chest. He was trying to be relaxed and calm, especially with his pacemaker. If he hadn't had that pacemaker put in, he would surely be in the hospital suffering from heart attacks.
His stress levels had gone through the roof since the case and his fear of Daisy getting hurt was only putting more pressure on it. He knew that she would be safe and he knew she could look after herself but as her father he would do whatever was necessary to protect his daughter.
Alec gulped down the last of his water before padding into his own bedroom, ripping his tie off and throwing it on the chair in the corner of the room. It was early for him to be home at this time of night. He was use to coming in at three or four in the morning. Luckily the team didn't have to work too late as it was just getting paperwork ready and witnesses for the trail. After the trail of Joe Miller, he was a little anxious in case the same thing would happen again. He was furious when the jury had let Joe get off and Miller was filled with hot rage. He couldn't let another guilty man go free. They were already close to losing the case in court due to Katie and her dad Ed Burnett because of her incompetence.
Alec proceeded to undress, pulling his jacket and shirt off and dumping them on the ground. He dressed in a t-shirt and long pyjama bottoms and dived into the covers. The bed was cold and he rested his head in the soft pillow, eyes closing as he tried to forget about work and fall into a deep sleep.
…
The bright sun shined through the window of Alec's room and landed straight on his eyes causing him to squint. He knew he should have closed the blind before he went to bed. He softly rolled onto his back, his eyes flicking over to the clock on his bedside table.
7:30
He was always an early bird man and once he was up, he was up. Deciding that he needed a shower, he got up from the bed, flinging the covers over his body and padded down to the bathroom, being quiet so he wouldn't wake Daisy. She would be getting up soon anyway.
Once had had showered, he got dressed in his usual white shirt and blue suit with his tie, his brown hair flopping over his head. He hadn't had a hair cut for a while now but he liked it this length. He finished getting ready and moved to the kitchen to put the kettle on and make some breakfast. He was going in at nine so he could give Daisy a lift to school… if she let him.
Daisy woke up from her slumber, rolling onto her side as her phone buzzed. She reached for it and looked at the message from Jay.
Morning baby, meet you at usual place :) xx
Daisy smiled and typed back.
Morning, see you then, I'll be leaving in 30 mins xxx
Daisy got up from her warm bed and the sun shining through her white curtain warmed the room up. It was a hot day today so she decided on a pair of blue jeans and a black t-shirt. Her long blonde hair was silky smooth as she brushed it and she applied a small amount of mascara to her lashes.
She got her bag ready for the day, putting all her books and notepads inside and grabbed her folder as she headed into the kitchen.
"Hey" she greeted her dad who was stood by the kitchen counter with his cup in his hand.
"Morning, sorry I didn't see you last night there was terrible traffic" he said and Daisy shrugged.
"It's okay, I was really tired anyway, how was work?" she asked taking the cup of tea her dad made her. His tea was always very strong which made her think he use to be a smoker when he was younger.
"Eh fine, just trying to get everything sorted ya know" Alec didn't particularly want to talk about the case to Daisy.
"Well, I hope it goes okay… I'm really proud of you dad" she said and Alec smiled. It was true, she was proud of her dad. Everything he had done for the Latimer's and the Sandbrook case. He'd do anything to get justice for any crime committed.
"Oh, thanks Dais" he whispered. He knew he was hated around the office and now he knew that his collogues called him 'Shit Face,' he wasn't exactly the most liked. But hearing his daughter say she was proud of him made him happy. It wasn't often he heard that.
"What time you going into work?" Daisy asked.
"Nine, come on Ill give you a lift to school" Alec finished his tea and washed the cup on the sink.
"Oh no it's okay dad I'll walk" Daisy said quickly, hoping to stop him. She wanted to meet Jay this morning and couldn't if her dad was taking her in.
"It's fine, come on get your shoes on, we'll be late" he insisted and Daisy sighed. She quickly got her phone out and texted Jay.
My dad's taking me to school, we'll have to meet later, what time do you finish work xx
I'm working till 8, got loads to do, maybe I can get off at lunch and come see you for a bit, I'll see what I can do xx
Ok, let me know, sorry, I tried to tell him no but he's insisting xx
It's ok baby, don't worry about it xx
I'll make it up to you ;) xxx
"You ready Dais!" Her dad shouted.
"Yeah coming" she shouted, shoving her phone in her pocket and grabbed her bag.
Hey so I hope you like it, please leave a review and let me know what you think
