This is Part II of the My Gift To You Special. Last time, we got our first matchup for this special duo of death battles, and it pits the Purple Dragon of Legend against the psychopathic leader of The Seven. Spyro vs Homelander is happening people! So today we're getting into the real nitty gritty of Death Battle, the research! Today, we're covering Spyro. So let's not waste a second! Here we go!
Wiz: Legend tells of a dragon born once every ten generations, whose raw power far outpaces any other dragon of their time, to the point where it is believed to be beyond imagination. Destined to lead the fate of their era. This is the legend of the Purple Dragon.
Boomstick: The first one we know of, Malefor, turned out to be a bit of a power hungry, kind of genocidal dick and tried to destroy everything.
Wiz: When Malefor went dark, the Ancestors sealed him away in the Dark Realms. But even then they knew he could be freed when the next Year of the Dragon rolled around, and that Malefor knew this as well. So to prevent this, the Ancestors essentially broke the rules, and a new Purple Dragon would be made to balance the forces of nature. This, is the story of Spyro the Dragon.
Boomstick: You know, that's the one weird thing the reincarnation theory doesn't explain. What does that even mean?
Wiz: Boomstick, we've been over this, no wild if interesting can theories. But as to what that means, it means exactly what it says. According to Ignitus, Spyro's existence is "nature's way of balancing itself" after Malefor's fall to the darkness.
Boomstick: Still sounds like some hippy metaphor to me.
Wiz: That aside, after being saved by the Fire Guardian Ignitus from a premature death as an egg at the hands of Malefor's forces, Spyro was adopted by a family of dragonflies. And despite this odd situation, he grew up to be pretty normal, save a lack of flight training. But that's when Malefor's forces found him, quite on accident actually.
Boomstick: Wait a minute, you mean they weren't even looking for him?!
Wiz: Undoubtedly they were, I just doubt they were expecting to find the Purple Dragon living in a swamp raised by dragonflies.
Boomstick: I mean seriously! This place is literally just down the river from the old Temple where the Purple Dragon's egg was kept! How'd they not find him sooner?!
Wiz: A question for another day, Boomstick. We need to get back to the point.
Boomstick: And speaking of points, Spyro's got plenty of them, and knows how to use them. Those of course being his horns, claws, and the tip of his tail, deadly weapons in melee combat, particularly his devastating Charge attack.
Wiz: And after rescuing Ignitus and his fellow Guardians from confinement by the forces of darkness, Spyro learned his four basic elements. You see, unlike other dragons, the Purple Dragon is able to use all elements, but is most famous for using Fire, Electricity, Ice, and Earth.
Boomstick: Wait, does that mean he could learn Cynder's elements too?
Wiz: I... well I mean it is theoretically possible. The Chronicler even stated that Malefor had learned Wind, so I guess it's not impossible that he could feasibly learn the darker elements. But if he can, or has, he really doesn't.
Boomstick: Wasted opportunity, I say! But Spyro has more than just those four elements up his nonexistent sleeves. After training in literal dreams with a dragon called the Chronicler, Spyro learned to manipulate time itself.
Wiz: And in time, after mastering Fire, Electricity, Ice, and Earth, Spyro unlocked the true power of the Purple Dragon: Aether.
Boomstick: Still pretty sure it's Convexity.
Wiz: Boomstick, we've been over this. I even showed you the interview with the lead concept artist. He even clarified the in game assets for this breath's sigil are still labelled as "Aether".
Boomstick: I'm still not really "convexed".
Wiz: Ugh. Etiher way, Aether is entirely dependent on a balance between light and darkness. Should Spyro give in to his own dark impulses, he risks turning into Dark Spyro.
Boomstick: And when that happens, you'd better run. Because in his dark state, Spyro is faster, stronger, and probably a thousand times more violent.
Wiz: Thankfully, Spyro is generally a calm individual, though he can't seem to come back from his dark state on his own, needing the help of his trusted allies and friends to do so.
Boomstick: But if you mess with them, watch out, because Spyro is a force to be reckoned with!
Wiz: Indeed he is, with supposedly impenetrable scales, capable of withstanding at least around 2 Million tons of force, if our calculations for the Golem's punching speed from Spyro's last appearance on Death Battle still hold true. Plus he has been shown capable of withstanding lightning without so much as a burn. Which is pretty impressive considering lightning can reach temperatures around 5 times that of the surface of the sun.
Boomstick: Not to mention his Aether breath apparently rips through things like an atom smasher on steroids!
Wiz: But that's not even his most impressive feat. Not even close. After defeating Malefor and his minions, Spyro tapped into the full power of Aether and somehow, some way, managed to take the exploding pieces of his world, and pull them back together into a relatively stable semblance of the planet that was.
Boomstick: AKA Skylands!
Wiz: But perhaps the most impressive part of this is that Spyro was at the center of it all, and survived. Rest assured, Spyro is one of the strongest fighter's we've had, plus he's likely one of the smartest, being the only one capable of translating Volteer's ramblings to something most people can understand. At least the only one that we see.
Boomstick: Sounds like someone we need to have around when you start rambling about quantum physics.
Wiz: Regardless, Spyro is undoubtedly a tough foe to beat, just be glad he's generally a good guy about things. If I had to pick anyone to lead the world into a new era of peace, Spyro would have my vote any day.
This concludes Part II of the My Gift To You Special. Head on over to The Injustice Wars for Part III. And that wraps up the fighter data for Spyro. Next time, we get Homelander in the building to see how he compares. So be sure to tune in for that! Same time... same channel!
