Ezra was convinced the ghost was haunted. There was no other explanation his young mind could come up with. The worst of the occurrences would happen in his room but whatever the thing was causing the ruckus felt like it was following him. None of the others seemed to have trouble with whatever this entity was but Ezra did not like it at all. He had to start following an ancient rule from when he was small to protect his belongings and Zebs. If he did not know he woke up; before Zeb most mornings for training, he would think the lasat was messing with him. Telling the others never even crossed his mind. In young Ezra's mind, why would he tell the something they probably already know.
The thing was, things were flying off of the shelves and cabinets when he was in a room. There never seemed to be any order in what went flying. If Ezra left anything out at night, low and behold it would be in the floor or smashed against the wall come morning. He had already broken the holopad that was loaned to him and trying to find out how to tell Kanan the ghost the ghost broke it and not him.
Ezra figured that after a while, whatever it was would calm down, but it seemed to get worse as the weeks went by. Zeb had rolled out of bed just a few nights before and though Ezra did not say anything at the time. He suspected the Lasat was far too close to the other side of the room without something pushing him. It did not seem to bother him much and he just went back to bed but Ezra had been worried ever since that he would be yanked off of his bunk as well. The fall was not far for Ezra, but the idea of it was a little scary.
Whatever it was causing this was getting braver or better because it no longer happened exclusively when Ezra was asleep. This morning he jumped what felt like 10 foot when he was practicing his meditation in the living area and he heard a clatter from the kitchen. When he when to look he saw an entire box of supplied that were sitting out and ready to be sorted slung in the floor. Now this box was not on the light side. It was easily 75 lbs. No one else seemed to have this problem so after many self debates, Ezra decided to ask Kanan how he gets the ghost to leave him alone. They never seem to bother Kanan and he's really smart too. Maybe there is some kind of Jedi trick to keep them away.
Mind made up before the morning training session, Ezra grabbed the holopad that had crashed to the floor a few weeks ago and gave it an accusing glare. Deciding in his mind to blame this entire mess on it. The last few weeks have made him jumpier than a lothcat in a room full of rocking chair. There was a kind of relief from finally being able to ask for help. In his mind, Kanan could fix anything. So this should be no problem
Holopad in hand, Ezra opened the ramp to go find his teacher. They weren't on Lothal anymore but this planet had it's own kind of beauty. Where the colors on Lothal were dark and the world was space out with valleys and fields. This planet, who Ezra did not bother listening enough to know the name of, was full of pastel colors and large trees. Simply put where Lothal had cliffsides, this place had forests. The Ghost was stopped her to recycle oxygen and resupply from the abundant resources. Apparently because of some trade agreement from forever ago, nothing sentient was suppose to live on the planet. It was considered a routine supply stop for many people.
Ezra vaguely recalls a few other ships that were breaking the atmosphere at the same time as the Ghost but nobody was showing concern, so Ezra just assumed the traffic was normal. As he walked along the trail to a nearby creak where Kanan was mediating, he took note that in was about midmorning. The walk was not very long. It was some unspoken agreement that the crew would stay pretty close when not working because of how dense the trees were around them. Honestly Hera was lucky to find this clearing to land in.
The dense forest housed some of the most interesting sounds Ezra had ever heard. Some small chirps and some larger growls were heard. The predators on the planet did not see humanoids very often so they were always wary. None had ever approached the crew in the past. Finally after a few minutes of walking, Ezra was able to spot his prize. Ezra was able to see Kanan facing away from him and toward the stream. He had his eyes closed and was breathing deeply in a form that Ezra was honestly bad at. They both learned recently, Kanan from an old holocrom and Ezra from Kanan, that the type of breathing and positioning effects meditation and concentration.
It all sounded really technical to Ezra but he figured Kanan knew what he was talking about so he did not argue when Kanan told him he had been meditating for a while and just did not know it. With how hard it was for Ezra to meditate with Kanan, he would know when he was doing well, but Kanan was convinced it was a proper technique so the youngling did not argue.
As Ezra got closer to Kanan with no response, he got a wicked idea. He softened his footsteps and calmed his breathing. He also attempted to calm and mask him emotions like he was taught from somewhere. Can't really remember where he learned it though. It took a few minutes to mask himself but Kanan was deep in meditation and did not seem to notice the child. He crept closer to the man who did not respond. He raised his arms above his head like his parents did when they told stories of monster. He took a deep breath and then...Kanan's eyes popped open and he turned so fast he probably had whiplash. He screamed out at the boy, causing Ezra to yell as well and fall on his bottom from the leaned in position he was in previously.
Ezra guessed whatever entity was following him followed him out here too because when he jumped, he was not the only thing that jumped. About a dozen small rocks rose about four feet in the air and were flung in all directions from the pair. After he fell, Kanan burst out laughing and the pout on his apprentices face, making a mental note to ask about the masking later. A few minutes of joyful laughter later, Kanan helped Ezra up and retrieved the boys holopad from where it had fallen. He raised an eyebrow at the cracked screen in a silent question. Ezra was embarrassed and hesitated in telling Kanan what happened but once he started telling him of all the strange occurrences that had been happening too him, Kanan listened intently with a few questions here and there.
It took a while to explain everything but one he completed his mission Ezra sat down on a downed tree and waited for a verdict. Kanan opened his mouth a few times as if to start and closed it again. He looked to the sky with an expression that prayed for patience in Ezra's opinion. Finally he sat down next to Ezra and began "I don't know weather to be amused or concerned that this is what you came up with on your own." A little embarrassed Ezra replied "Well how do I stop it from happening".
Of all the things that Ezra was expecting, a Jedi lesson in the middle of the clearing was not one of them. At first he could not understand why they were talking about this stuff instead of his problem but the more Kanan explained, the redder Ezra got until the realization of what was happening finally hit him. He had been his own ghost. All the occurrences that had been happening happened because he was present. Looking back it became worse when he started his training and started becoming stronger. It's no wonder the others did not know. Besides the holopad, Ezra always cleaned up the mess so no one else saw it.
That was one mystery down but to his dismay, Kanan's suggestions were things that Ezra had already been doing. Guess he was stuck with the ghost until he became a master.
