Well these frequent chapter uploads are because I have this story completed to be honest and I am trying to get it posted sequentially, but I'm still pretty new at this so if there's any abnormalities that's probably why.
Chapter three
My new teacher is a winged...thing
It was months later and things weren't any clearer. But there was a new teacher in Mr. Coal's place. That reminds me, I'm the only one who remembers him. Everyone else, to them it's like he never even existed. I thought things would get better then. Boy was I wrong, somehow, it's even worse. The new teacher, Mz. Alecto, she's weird. It's eerie, two weird teachers in a row. Remembering Mr. Coal, who'd turned into a monster or more accurately revealed his identity as one, I was suspicious of my new teacher. There were times when I could've sworn that her eyes glowed a flame orange or blood red. Like hot embers...or fire. In a way, she was even scarier than Mr. Coal was as human.
I didn't know what she was. But she was definitely not human. She wasn't what Mr. Coal had been either, she was something else. Something more sinister, a much more...ancient terror. There were other creepy traits of hers: her fingernails were practically claws, her voice sounded dry and hissing; like a snake that had learned to talk, weirdest of all, on her back there's these weird...raised areas, they almost look like...bat wings. Little did I know that she was a much, much worse monster than Mr. Coal, and just a little reminder, I didn't know I was half blood, yet.
It was June when she made her move, and my discovery process really kicked off. I remember that day clearly, June 6th. The last day of the school year. Clearly, she decided it was time to make her move.
I was out on the field, charging around and having fun when all of a sudden two hands seized my shoulders. They whipped me around, bringing me face to face with Mz. Alecto. Her eyes smoldered orange. They seem to glow with triumph at something. Her pinched face was twisted in a sinister grin.
"Come with me...there's something we need to discuss, now!" She rasped and hauled me after her before I could even open my mouth.
She hauled me over to her room and locked the door. The hair on the back of my neck stood straight up, my heartbeat quickened, and I thought it safe to keep her in sight. If humans had ears like those of a cat, mine would have been flattened and tucked back at this point. She put her hands on her desk and her back was to me so I couldn't see her face, and the darkness of the room only allowed me to see her silhouette. Her voice hissed out of the darkness.
"All this time, you never knew exactly what you were did you?" she laughed raspily.
"What I am, what the heck is that supposed to mean?!" I said, very edgy.
"Oh, it doesn't matter, not now, because now I've got to myself" she hissed with her serpent like voice.
What happened next got burned into my memory. It's never even faded a little. Her head turned around and two orange circles glowed at me. All my suspicions rushed back, she wasn't human! The bulges on her back raised high and spread apart, into bat wings. Like I'd thought they were.
"Did you ever wonder if I ever told you my real name?" She hissed, those orange circles of light blazed like hot coals.
I realized that they were her eyes, what kind of humanoid had eyes like that, or wings for that matter? She moved with blinding speed, I only just managed to get out of the way of her claw like fingernails. At the moment I dodged, time seemed to slow down to a crawl around me, like it did before with the last teacher-turned-monster. Her claws inched by my face like they were in honey, but then time returned to normal as they passed my head. Then they slammed into the wall, making her hiss with pain and rage. Fast as viper she whirled and lashed out with one of her clawed hands, like a cat would do with its paw. The claws whistled through the air just an inch from my face. I needed a weapon, now! But how could I get one? Then I realized that I already had one. Intelligence, trickery, and tactics, were all great skills to have. I could use Mz. Alecto's strengths against her, if not I was done for. Later on, it would occur to me how oddly convenient it was for that realization to come to me at the exact moment I needed it, like it was put there by someone. I went to a corner and acted trapped, which wasn't hard.
She hissed with triumph, and lunged for the kill. At the last second, I dodged under her legs, she was moving too fast to correct and bam! Again, I had the sensation of the slowing of time. She slammed into the corner, squawking like a bird. Those orange eyes turned blood red with rage. I was surprised by the fact that I had another feeling besides fear, cold exhilaration.
"Oh, did somebody make a klutzy move?" I taunted.
She lunged again, slashing her claws for my eyes, but I ducked out of the way, and for the third time today everything seemed to almost stop except for me. In this small space, she couldn't maneuver properly. No wonder she'd tried to end it with a lightning fast strike. Her eyes glowed blood red and a growl came out of her throat. I growled back, then I made my first offensive move, you have to understand why I was doing this. I was feeling pretty angry, after all this hideous thing was trying to kill me out of an evil desire to cause harm. And worse, I had no weapons so instead I pounced on her back, slamming my hands down on her back and raking my nails over the skin fast and viciously. She howled with pain, I decided to try something new. I bit the back of her neck, hard. Why did I do that? Good question, I don't know, the idea randomly popped into my head. Maybe I just knew it would work or something like that. My teeth plunged into sand, boy that was a fun sensation, like biting into a sand castle. Her spine suddenly stiffened, throwing me off. She whipped around, sending sand flying out of the bite wound.
"OK if that's how we're playing it, then I'm biting you!" she screeched.
Her jaws gaped open, revealing long, sharp teeth. Like the teeth of a big cat. Fast as lightning she lunged for my neck, but I jumped to the side and for a just a moment pondered how I apparently was able to make time seem to slow down to an almost complete stop, but then I shrugged that thought aside to think about later when I wasn't fighting for my life, and because slowing down time itself seemed absolutely preposterous compared to it just being incredibly fast reflexes.
"You don't know who I am, do you?" she snarled.
"A hideous hag?" I snarled back, not really caring either way.
"My name is Alecto! punisher of souls!, one of the Erinyes!" she screeched with triumph.
I ran to the door, formulating an idea. She lunged for me, and again I dodged, and again time slowed. SLAM, she crashed into the door so hard it came off its hinges. I ran as fast as I could to the end of the hall and looked back. She was nowhere to be seen. There was just a chill in the air and even that lasted for only a second. I turned around to come face to face with her, before I could react, she clamped her hands on my neck and started to asphyxiate me. No matter what I tried she wouldn't release her hold.
Then I suddenly lunged, slamming her into the wall, she gasped, her breath knocked out of her. Her grip disappeared, while she was trying to get her breath back, I grabbed her hand, and using the claws on it, I slit her throat. It was a matter of survival, it was either her or me. POOF! She exploded into dust, covering me. Yuck, it smelled terrible! Eww it smelled like a dead snake, yergh!
I couldn't stop a feeling of triumph, another monster teacher defeated! Well, actually that's not technically true. Mr. Coal wasn't defeated by me, but by someone else, someone whose identity would forever be unknown to me I assumed. But Mz. Alecto, or as she just called herself, Alecto, was defeated at my hands. With her own claws, ha! I'd do it again in a heartbeat! The rest of the day was bliss, I'd gotten rid of a demon teacher!
That night I started reading a book I'd never read before. It was in a series called Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The book was called the lightning thief. It's awesome, it's about these kids who are half-bloods. Half human, half god; well this is where it gets creepy. There's a lot of similarities between them and me. ADHD, compulsion to read Greek, strange experiences, and etc. Then I thought I felt something...awaken inside me.
Not knowing what I was doing, I went to my sink mirror. The brown of my eye, it seemed to have a crease in it. Cautiously, warily, tentatively, I touched it with my index finger, I only felt my finger touch my eye. This brown thing wasn't part of my eye, if it was, it would've felt my finger. I grabbed the crease and pulled. I felt something slide across my eye. That very same second, something came off my other eye and landed on my wrist. I pulled off the first thing, then looked at both of them.
They were brown contact lenses, that meant my eye color wasn't brown but...I looked up at the mirror. My eyes were gray, storm cloud gray. Just like the children of Athena in that book, like Athena herself, like that woman! My mind ached as all the information swirled around, trying to come together. Was the stuff in the book real!? Was I a child of Athena? Was there a link between Athena and that woman? Then I shook my head to clear my thoughts, no this was only a crazy coincidence. Though I thought maybe my imagination was playing tricks with me or that I was daydreaming, I couldn't convince myself of it, this was far too real, it explained too much about my life so far.
No! I thought, this isn't real, it can't be! I've got to be daydreaming, or, or...hallucinating, or even an active imagination. Despite that thought I still couldn't believe it. The demigod stuff explained everything. The weird things I'd experienced throughout my life: seeing weird animal tracks or other traces, or hearing weird calls, or seeing the creatures themselves. It also explained my sightings of that woman! Everything was explained now.
Then a surge of rage shot through me, this is what my dad has been hiding all along! He knew EXACTLY what I meant all those times, all those weird happenings, all of it. Or if he didn't know what I was, he knew there was something big about me. He hid it all, does he take me for an idiot!? He knew, didn't he?
"This ends right now" I growled and stormed toward my door.
