Ch. 3
I do not own Inuyasha
He didn't know why.
Why didn't he just…leave?
Maybe he was…curious.
Curious to see what the woman would do, but she did nothing.
In some ways he was grateful that she didn't come knocking, butting her nose in where it didn't belong. In others…he wanted to take in her scent.
It was an intense curiosity he had.
He trained his ears to every movement and sound she made inside the house.
Never once did she venture to his side of the house and he never ventured outside the room he was in.
He noted that she took a shower, after that, went to her room, then left the house for a time, came back, went to the kitchen and the most amazing smells of her cooking almost made him venture out of the bedroom.
Almost.
The other male came to and fro, but after dinner he left and didn't come back. So he assumed that he wasn't her lover or husband, just the help.
Night came and she went to bed around ten.
Silence came.
About midnight though, something interesting happened.
He heard her jump out of bed, making a huge ruckus as she went. Sesshomaru stood at his window just as she vaulted from her porch, in her nightgown, a flashlight in hand, heading towards the barn.
Why was she going in there this time of night?
Curiosity got the better of him this time and he left the bedroom.
Coming outside he finally understood why she went bolting from the house.
One of the horses was in distress.
He very slowly crept to the barn, not making a sound. The horse was breathing hard, the woman comforting the creature.
Sesshomaru entered the barn and saw eight stalls. On the end and to the left was a tack room.
He ventured forward slowly heading towards the third stall where all the commotion was coming from.
Before he could get there though, the head of another horse came out to greet him and so did three others. The one that came and poked his head out was named Big Brother or so it said on its name tag.
Another horse neigh came from the stall labeled Lily.
"Sh, sh. You're nearly there Lily. Push your foal out."
Sesshomaru quivered slightly at the softness of the woman's voice. He stepped closer to the stall. He wanted a closer look.
What he saw was…he had no words. The horse was laying on the ground, grunting. The woman was kneeling at the rear end to the horse.
The next moment shocked him. The woman stuck on of her arms up the horses hind quarters almost up to her elbow.
What the hell?
Then she spoke again.
"I can feel the head Lily. Push baby."
For the next hour Sesshomaru watched the horse Lily push her foal out into the world. The woman stood watch for the entire event and not even noticing he was there.
The foal came in a gush of liquid and amniotic sack. The woman helped expose it's head so it could breath.
Sesshomaru watched the entire time. The other horses lost their curiosity for him and stuck their heads back in their stalls a while ago.
Lily then made to go stand and once stood, she walked to the front of the stall, right towards him. Sesshomaru almost didn't move fast enough.
"Who's there?" the woman questioned out loud, but before she could see him, he darted out of the barn, like a thief in the dark.
"Hey wait!"
He didn't. Back into the house he went, quick as a flash.
The woman did not run after him, for that he was grateful.
Why was he acting like this? He had no answers.
Closing the door to the bedroom, he went back to the window. The woman was nowhere in sight.
He sighed.
Tomorrow. He would confront her tomorrow.
XOXO
All she saw was a flash of silver. So all she knew was that her guest came out of the house. To do what though? Say hi? Introduce himself? How long was he standing there?
So many questions.
Rin left the barn after the foal started to stand up on its own, then she went and took another shower and went back to bed.
Morning came, Rin still feeling drowsy from the previous day and night, but work needed to be done and it wasn't going to be down by itself. The first thing she did was check on Lily and her new foal. She smiled seeing the foal suckling his mother's milk.
"Okay Lily, ready to go out to pasture?" Rin said grabbing a harness.
Lily nickered in response.
Stepping out of the barn, the sun was casting its light toward her house. And there standing on her porch was Sesshomaru.
Rin paused for a moment to notice he was there but then she continued on her way. The way her 'courtyard' was set up was simple. As you drove up her drive was a line of trees on each side. On each side was fenced pasture. That was where Rin was currently taking Lily and her foal.
You drive left; you park in front to the house. Right is the barn. Looking straight ahead was open range as far as the eye could see. Next to the house was a vegetable garden; even further were ten peach trees in full bloom.
Further behind the house and hidden behind some more trees was the family cemetery.
Rin opened the gate and let Lily in. The foal followed attentively, but once out in the open, the little male went running. Rin smiled and close the gate.
And there she waited, training her ears for any sound to her guest approaching. No sound.
A little disappointed she turned to go back to the house when he was suddenly there.
Rin yelped and stumbled backward, but before she fell, her hand was being caught by his. A moment passed between them, where they locked eyes, but the next second Sesshomaru jerked her back into a standing position and let go immediately.
Getting her bearings, she took a breath and straightened her clothes. Then she opened her mouth to speak, but he beat her to it.
"Apologies," he could only say and turned to look at mother and foal.
Rin just stood there a moment and stared, but averted her eyes away.
"No worries Mr. Takahashi," Rin said, but saying his name took him by surprise.
"You know my name?" he questioned, suddenly suspicious.
"Kind of hard not to. Your picture is in the paper every other week with what your company is building in Chicago. You're not exactly hard to miss, but you are a bit off the beaten track. How did you end up this far north?" Rin explained and questioned.
Sesshomaru was still suspicious, but it did make sense and she helped him in his greatest point of weakness, but before he could answer her question she spoke up again.
"You know what; it's none of my business. Stay as long as you like or you can leave whenever. I'm just glad I could help in you time of need. Have a good day Mr. Takahashi," Rin said, turned and stared to leave.
Till his voice stopped her.
"What is your name?"
Rin turned and smiled.
"Rin Johansson."
XOXO
