Devron and his patrol hurriedly doubled timed it back to base. Helicopters and other aircraft were already being boarded and getting ready to go airborne.
Lindsey came running to him panting and motions with a hand to follow her to one of the helicopters. "A highly feared Iranian general has been spotted about 10 klicks north in a very small village. We are going to kill him." Lindsey explained. The two boarded a helicopter which was mostly full. Sergeant Betson and Maxwell were also in the helicopter.
Devron sat down and Lindsey pointed at him with a glare. "And please don't fucking jump out okay?"
Devron mumbled something under his breath and nodded. Lindsey sighed in relief and looked to the other soldiers in the helicopter.
"Alright, here is the plan. We land, kill the General, kill all other hostiles then we leave. Any questions?"
The helicopter remained silent and Lindsey smiled. "Good."
Sergeant Betson chuckled and eyed Devron curiously. "So the Captain has you on a leash now aye?"
Devron looked at him curiously, he had no clue what that meant. Lindsey scoffed "I do not."
Betson rolled his eyes. "Bullshit, it only listens to you. Don't know how the hell you control something like th-"
"He isn't a thing, he's a he!" Maxwell exclaimed.
All the soldiers collectively stared at him. Some trying to suppress giggles while some just stared on in confusion.
Maxwell scratched the back of his neck. "Y-you know he's a sentient being and all..."
Betson laughed. "I think you both are just Monster fuckers."
Maxwell seemed to be insulted and Lindsey was mildly amused. "Focus back on the mission Sergeant, don't need to dying because you were too busy thinking about fucking the cat." Lindsey said with a smirk.
The rest of the soldiers roared with laughter, and even Devron couldn't resist a sly smirk.
Betson grunted and rolled his eyes.
The sound of explosions could be heard.
"LZ is one minute out!" The pilot announced.
Lindsey let out a deep breath and nodded. "Alright boys, saddle up and get ready to kick some ass!" She exclaimed.
Devron eagerly awaited their landing and when the doors did open, he burst out of the helicopter and into the fray.
The area he was in was just outside a small village. He could see enemies hold up behind sandbags and pieces of rubble to use as cover. They also happened to have a tank.
The tank, instead of aiming at Devron, aimed towards the sky and fired.
Devron could see the falling flaming aircraft as Devron sprinted. After half a minute of sprinting, Devron entered the village and leaped into the air.
A group of enemies were sitting behind some sandbags so he slammed down onto them, the shockwave from impact launching two soldiers backwards. Devron stood up, snapping his body to the left and bringing a claw down on a mans head, severing it. Then he dashed towards the soldier who was recovering from being thrown back. He plunged his claw into the heart of the enemy, killing them instantly.
Gunfire peppered his armor, and with a growl he turned around, with a small formed fireball and eyed a house that had multiple soldiers firing at him from the windows. Devron released the projectile and it sailed towards the house, setting it on fire. The fire quickly spread, faster than any normal fire.
Devron grunted in satisfaction and sprinted towards the two remaining soldiers in the area. Only for bullets to pierce their skulls.
Friendly soldiers vaulted over the Sandbags and began to fire at incoming enemies.
Lindsey shouted over gunfire. "Go find the V.I.P, we can handle ourselves!"
Devron nodded and jumped up to the roof of a house. He scaled the buildings until he found a large church, using it to oversee the area. He looked for less than a minute before he saw a man being guarded by a dozen soldiers running away from the fight. Devron was about to go down and kill the man when he heard firing from the tank. Devron jumped out of the way just in time before an explosion destroyed the area he was sitting on. However the blast knocked him back and he fell face first down onto the ground.
He stood up to see the General and his security detail running towards him. Devron let out a roar and ran towards them, charging a large fireball and ignoring the bullets peppering him. He stopped and released the projectile setting half a dozen enemies ablaze.
Devron ran towards the remaining hostiles and stabbed one in the throat before spinning around and kicking one in the face, staggering them and following up with a two claw stab to the stomach.
A soldier grabbed something from his belt and pulled the pin. It was a grenade. Devron growled and dashed towards the soldier, grabbing the grenade from his hand and stabbing him through the gaping mouth with his claw.
He then threw the explosive towards two soldiers and watched them exploded into piles of blood and guts.
Devron spun with a wicked grin behind his mask to the final soldier, who seemed to be the leader of the squad. The man reached for his thigh and pulled out a knife. Devron was amused by the Soldiers final desperate attempt to kill him. If anything it was cute. Devron would play with his prey. This would give the General time to escape and make the hunt for him more fun.
The soldiers breathing was heavy as Devron circled him. Their legs shook as it kept eye contact with Devron. However Devron needed a bit more of a challenge, so he sheathed his claws. Another round of circling and Devron was growing bored. He had certainly scared the human enough.
So, suddenly Devron charged forward, throwing a fist towards the Soldiers head. The soldier ducked, and plunged the knife towards Devrons unarmored neck. Devron simply grabbed his hand holding the knife and squeezed until the soldier dropped it. Devron smiled as he bathed in the groans of pain that his prey emitted.
With a grunt, Devron kick the Soldier in the chest very lightly. However this still knocked him back several feet and knocked the wind out of him.
Devron slowly approached the Soldier as he stood up, raising his fists. The Soldier yelled and charged him, throwing a fist towards his neck. Devron easily side stepped and threw a punch into the Soldiers stomach, his fist going straight through it and out the other side.
Devron frowned. He didn't know he could do that. Angry that he didn't get to play with his prey more, he released his blood soaked fist and looked for the General.
...
The General desperately sprinted towards the Jeep at the end of the town. Three soldiers were waiting for him, moving up to his flank to cover his escape.
The General breathed a sigh of a relief as he reached the vehicle, climbing into the passengers seat. He turned to the driver and spoke. "Get us the hell out of here!" He shouted.
The driver nodded and turned on the ignition.
Suddenly gunfire rang out, and the three soldiers outside were shouting.
The General hesitantly peeked his head out the window only to see one of the soldiers being gutted by a blood soaked beast.
The Generals breath caught in his throat as he witnessed the massacre. One of the remaining Soldiers, who had been kicked to the ground, stood up and began firing at the beasts. The bullets did nothing and the beast charged forward, pulling the gun, along with the man towards it and using its claws to impale it through the chest. It let out a roar of satisfaction as it dropped the lifeless body of the soldier. The last soldier desperately fired at the beast. The beast charged the soldier and delivered a swift kick to his chest, sending him into a nearby building and breaking every bone in his body.
The General blinked, snapping out of his shock and turned to the driver. "Come on lets get the fuck out of here!" He exclaimed.
The driver desperately slammed on the gas pedal. "I-I'm trying!"
After a few more seconds, the car began to move and both men breathed a sigh of relief. However, their relief would be short lived. The General peeked his out the window again only to see a fiery projectile smash into the car.
The car flew in the air like a rag doll, landing upside down. The driver was killed instantly while the General suffered a broken rib, and a concussion.
"Shit, shit, shit!" He shouted as he attempted to crawl out of the vehicle. He stood up once getting out of the vehicle, clutching his ribs.
The beast was walking ever so slowly towards him. The General fumbled with his side arm and aimed it at the beast. He wouldn't go down without a fight.
BANG
The round harmlessly bounced off the beasts armor.
The General re-aimed his firearm to the beasts neck.
BANG
The beast side stepped it.
BANG
BANG
BANG
BANG
BANG

The General looked down at his empty weapon and scowled. The beast simply stared at him, looking down at the empty bullet casings at his feet. He didn't even have time to pull out another magazine when the beast was on him in an instant.
...
Devron grinned as he pounced the man. The mans terrified expression only added to the satisfaction of grabbing his left arm and tearing it off. Blood sprayed like candy from a piñata. Devron tossed it aside and examined his prey further. The screams of agony were fucking annoying and he was sure the whole village could hear this guy. So he grabbed him by the side of his face and brought his thumbs up to his eyes.
"Devron!"
Devron punched the man in the face and turned around to the face Lindsey and half a dozen other soldiers.
"Just fucking kill him, stop torturing him." She said.
Devron rolled his eyes and turned back to the man who begged for his life. He brought his right hand up to the mans forehead and unsheathed his claws, killing him instantly.
He then stood up to face the soldiers. Lindsey surveyed his work and chuckled. "This is impressive...really impressive." She said. The others soldiers seemed pretty shocked as well. Maxwell was staring at the wreckage of the Jeep.
"I didn't know you could do that..."
Devron shrugged. "I didn't know either..." Devron admitted then walked past Maxwell.
He was going to walk over to Lindsey when he spotted something in a nearby church tower. He stopped and stared.
"What is it kitty?" Lindsey asked.
Devron ignored her as he squinted. Then his eyes grew as he realized what it was. A sniper, and it was aiming right at Lindsey.
Devron quickly swiveled around and grabbed Lindsey, pulling her to the ground. A loud bang was heard and Devron could feel a bullet bouncing off his armor.
Lindsey looked utterly shocked, but Devron paid her no mind and turned back around, eyeing the tower. Devron readied himself, squatting down. Then he jumped and to everyone's shock landed in the church tower.
The Snipers broken body flew out the tower a few seconds later and Devron jumped back down to the ground. He looks down to Lindsey who is standing up with the help of a few soldiers. "You okay?" He asked.
Lindsey nodded. "Yeah...I'm good. T-thanks by the way." She thanked Devron hesitantly.
Devron rolled his eyes and walked off. His walk came to a stop and he looked back to the Lindsey.
"You're welcome."
Fuck.
He was starting to care for her, as well as Maxwell. This wasn't a good thing was it? He didn't even know. He was flooded with emotions. As soon as he saw that sniper he had the urge to protect. Same with Maxwell.
He shook his head and was about to walk off when Maxwell tapped his shoulder. He had an excited look on his face.
"Dude, that was fucking insane! You jumped up so high! You are way stronger than I though." Maxwell said rapidly.
Devron let himself smile. Then he nodded. "I didn't really know I could do those things either. Training only allowed me to do so much." He explained.
"You realize that you are going to be trusted a lot more because of all you've done right?"
Devron just shrugged. "I'm still a monster, I'll never be free from the confines of your human military."
Maxwell looked down at his feet in what seemed to be shame. Devron sighed. "Not that I care anyways. I do my job well, and I get privacy every once and awhile."
Maxwell looked back up at Devron. "You ever wonder about the rest of your kind. Like, you ever wonder how their doing, what it's like down there?"
Devron thought about that for a second. Honestly he didn't think about it to much. "If I'm going to be honest, I do not think about the Underground that much. I pray that my people are safe, but I wouldn't want to live there. Being a human slave is worth being able to see the sun and the moon." Devron explained, staring up at the rising moon.
"Wow...I'm kinda surprised you don't wanna escape..."
Devron shrugged. "Has never once crossed my mind that I could escape. Even if there was an opportunity, I wouldn't take it."
Sergeant Betson looked at Devron then back at Lindsey who was staring at the monster. "So...new bodyguard, Captain?" He asked.
Lindsey's cheeks slightly flushed and he scowled. "Shut it Sergeant. Are the choppers almost here?"
Betson nodded. "Yeah, our birds will be here any minute."
As if on queue, the sound of helicopter blades could be heard and four helicopters could be seen landing next to the village.
Lindsey turned to her men and ordered them to board the choppers.
As the soldiers began to board the helicopters, Devron turned back to the ruins of the village and the damage he caused. He knew why the humans wanted him to fight for them. Did they need him? He didn't know. Devron didn't pay attention to the internal politics of human society. All he knew is that the country he fought for didn't want this one; Iran to establish a nuclear arsenal. There was much more to it, but he was never told nor did he care. As long as the humans gave him a purpose to be on the surface, he'd serve them.
Maxwell tapped his shoulder. Devron turned to the young soldier.
"Hey, choppers are here, let's go." The young soldier said and began to walk towards the choppers.
Devron scratched at the back of his neck and followed the young soldier.
"Hurry up kitten, we are about to take off!" Lindsey exclaimed.
Devron wanted to be annoyed at the nick name, but he found himself smiling at it. Not that anyone could see the emotion behind his mask.
He boarded the helicopter and took a seat.
Maxwell was about to climb in when Betson shook his head.
"This ones full kid, get in the other bird." Betson said.
Maxwell groaned but obliged and made his way to the other helicopter.
Everyone in the helicopter seemed to be looking at him.
"Yeah, their impressed by your earlier performance." Betson clarified.
Lindsey cleared her throat. "I'll uh make sure to tell command about your accomplishments..."
Devron shook his head. "Even if you do, that won't change much. I was captured to be a weapon, command expects this kind of performance."
The helicopter then went silent apart for the sound of the helicopter blade. Lindsey sighed and leaned back in her seat.
Betson, who was sitting next to Devron nudged his shoulder.
"She wants to pay you back." He whispered.
Devron turned to him.
"Trust me, she will find some way to pay you back for that fancy save you pulled until the end of her days." He explained.
Devron nodded and glanced at the Captain who was fiddling with her fingers.
Betson took a breath and continued. "You're wrong."
Devron turned back to the Sergeant and blinked.
"What?" He whispered back.
"About you being a weapon. I shouldn't be telling you this, because it's classified, but fuck command. The government is trying to break the barrier."
Devrons eyes went wide.
"Let me finish."
Devron nodded.
"The government isn't stupid, they know you guys are actually sentient beings. They also know they can't keep you locked up forever. If they wait till you guys break out yourselves, it'll be war. However, with the current situation the world is in. War, global warming, corruption, etc. Monsters would be able to fix a lot of that. Especially global warming."
"Because of our magic." Devron confirmed.
Betson nodded.
"So the plan is, since last year is to gain your trust, free the monsters and offer them a lot of environmental jobs. However...there is a catch."
Devron cocked his head to the side.
"The g-"
Suddenly everyone in the helicopter rocked, some falling out of their seats.
"WE'VE BEEN HIT, WE ARE GOING DOWN!" The pilot yelled from the cockpit.
"Grab onto something!" Lindsey shouted just as she fell out of her seat.
Devron analyzed the situation. He didn't know if any of the humans would survive. He had to try and save at least one person.
The choice was already made. The most important person was the captain. Therefore he had to insure her safety. Especially if the Sergeant was telling the truth, he needed to gain as much trust from command as he could.
Devron dove from his seat and towards the Captain on the ground and wrapped his arms around.
"Hold on." He said.
Lindsey looked up at him then to the other soldiers struggling.
"B-but what about them!?" Lindsey asked.
Devron shook his head. "Nothing I can do, you being the captain are the most important person on this craft, just hold on."
Lindsey reluctantly nodded then grabbed onto his sides, pressing herself as close to him as she could.
And without warning, the world went dark.
