Little Witch Academia: The Demon Egg
Chapter 2: The Legend of the Bai Ze
"I just...I just can't believe this…"
Headmistress Holbrooke kept massaging her wrinkly forehead as stress was building up inside her. Standing before her was the awkward-looking Red Team with Professor Finnelan and Professor Ursula by their sides. Finnelan still looked as angry as ever while Ursula seemed to be the only one with concern.
Akko just fiddled with her fingers, not looking at the headmistress, Lotte had her head down dejected, and Sucy just stood there looking at a fly passing by her head the third time.
"Why would you do this?" Headmistress Holbrooke held her head up her face looking sterner and scarier as she continued to speak. The three young witches wanted to run but the two professors kept them stationary. "Why would you ruin weeks of preparation for a special event? Hm? Why!? Please give me a GOOD REASON WHY YOU THOUGHT IT WOULD BE FUNNY TO STEAL ALL OF THE FOOD THE STAFF WHO HAD WORKED TIRELESSLY ON!? PLEASE ACTUALLY TELL ME! I WANNA HEAR YOUR REASONING!"
The three girls looked down in shame for about a minute until Akko slowly lifted her head revealing a timid smile and replied, "W-we were only planning to take three things…"
Headmistress Holbrooke wanted to jump out of the chair and choke Akko right then and there but she knew she was too old for that. So she prayed to the gods to keep her from going crazy and regained her composure.
She took a deep breath and looked at the girls with an emotionless look on her face but that look could also say she meant business.
"You three have disrespected this academy and basically endangered the staff and students. As punishment for this, you will not be allowed to attend the banquet of Vanessa's coming next week."
"What!?" Akko yelled. "B-but-"
"Silence!" Professor Finnelan roared. "She's not finished."
"And," Headmistress Holbrooke held up her index finger, "You will be sentenced to cleaning duty for the girls' bathrooms for all that time as well. And we will add the troll baths to that list!"
Akko's jaw dropped to the ground as she heard this.
"You will start cleaning today!"
"TODAY!?" both Akko and Lotte screamed. Sucy chuckled silently to herself and said in her head, "Jokes on them, I actually wanted to go into the trolls' bath to get their muck to brew some new potions."
"Maybe from this, you girls can finally learn a thing or two about respect. Send them off!" Holbrooke waved her hand as Professor Finnelan and Professor Ursula escorted them out of the office.
"You girls just do too much sometimes," Ursula sighed.
"S-sorry…" Akko replied while looking away sheepishly.
"Sorry will not save you! Get the mops and cleaning equipment! You won't be using magic to clean!" Finnelan ordered angrily.
"What!?" Lotte turned around to face the stern teacher. "But the headmistress didn't say we couldn't use our mag-"
"I'm implementing that you can't!" Professor Finnelan spat in Lotte's face which made the scared girl hide behind Professor Ursula. The young blue-haired professor wanted to say something in defense, but even she feared the wrath of Finnelan when it reaches this level.
"Do not make me say it a second time...GO!"
"YES MA'AM!" Akko and Lotte saluted ridiculously and ran away to the supply closet. Sucy followed close behind them walking slowly and uncaringly.
"Honestly," Finnelan growled while stomping away to her quarters. "Those girls will be the death of me!"
Once Finnelan was gone, Ursula stood alone in the hallway and sighed depressingly.
"I wonder when I will ever catch a break…"
It wasn't going to be a pleasant sleep, Lotte knew that. After working hard in the bathrooms she knew that her body was going to be sore like she just came back from a wrestling match. Doing the cleaning without magic itself was a challenge by how huge the bathroom was.
Lotte cleaned the sink with a sponge, Akko mopped the floor (which she was actually having fun doing because she was sliding on the floor like a skateboard), and Sucy was scrubbing the toilets in all the stalls one by one.
For three hours now the Red Team has devoted their time to clean the girls' bathroom. The only one who wasn't really enjoying it was Lotte who looked at the floor grumbling to herself. Akko slid to Lotte and giggled.
"I'm glad we're doing this bathroom first then the troll one!"
"Watch them make us do it tomorrow," Sucy replied nonchalantly while leaving one stall and going into another.
Akko pouted. "Don't ruin my fun Sucy!"
"This is all your fault…"
"Huh?"
Lotte looked up and Akko with a very angry expression. She stood up and pointed her finger right at Akko's face.
"You heard me! This is all YOUR fault!"
"Woah! Okay, calm down there Lotte!" Akko said while holding her hands up defensively. "It's not like I wanted the gremlins to turn into monsters and attack the students!"
"It doesn't matter! You shouldn't have come up with that plan in the first place! What made you think that this wasn't going to backfire in any way!"
"Hey! The last thing I remember was you not stopping us! Actually, you supported us!"
"I tried to stop you at first!"
"But then you gave up and helped us out! You can't put all the blame on me and Sucy!" Akko folded her arms frowning. "Share some of that responsibility!"
Lotte wanted to argue more but she shut her mouth knowing that there was truth in Akko's words. In the end, Lotte did join their ridiculous efforts and now she was paying for it.
The Finnish girl sighed and took off her glasses while waving her arms.
"Okay Okay, let's just get this over with and go back to the room...I'm already so exhausted…" Lotte walked off to the other sink as Akko scratched her head awkwardly.
"Hey, Sucy!" Akko turned to her pale teammate. "You almost done?"
Sucy shook her head. "I got like three more stalls. Hold-"
As Sucy opened the door to enter another stall she was met with someone sitting on the toilet. It was no student but an old lady and she could tell it was no professor because she didn't wear a uniform. The old woman was small, wore an old gray robe with nice triangular patterns on it, a gray witch hat, and carried an old wooden staff, and a big bundle in cloth with a sinister red glow coming from it.
Sucy stared at the old woman blankly until she spoke up.
"Young witches, I am-"
Sucy shut the door and turned to Akko and Lotte.
"Akko, Lotte."
"Yeah? What is it?" Lotte asked as she was scrubbing a strange black spot in the sink. It wouldn't come off.
"There is something on the toilet," Sucy stated as she pointed at the stall behind her.
"Ew! Is it another giant bug!?" Akko screamed as she held up the mop like a weapon. "I swear I will find whoever is putting magical insects in the pipeline and bop them in the head!"
"No," Sucy replied.
"Then what?!" Akko asked impatiently.
"An old woman."
"An old woman?"
Sucy opened the door again and the two other witches went over to see the old witch herself. Sitting on the toilet ready to share her tale.
"Can I speak now?" the old woman asked with somewhat of an annoyed tone.
"Yes," Sucy nodded.
"Good. *ahem* Dear young witches! I am Vanessa of the Grey Mounds. I come-"
"You're Vanessa!?" Akko yelled excitedly which interrupted Vanessa's monologue. The old witch grumbled while she nodded.
"Akko! Let her speak!" Lotte scolded Akko.
Akko bowed her head apologetically. "Sorry! Continue!"
Vanessa cleared her throat again. "I am Vanessa of the Grey Mounds and I have come back from a dangerous journey in the Nether!-"
"The Nether?" Akko raised an eyebrow. "What's that?"
"Basically Hell," Sucy answered.
"That doesn't sound like a nice place."
"No Akko it's actually Hell. The place where demons live."
"WHAT SERIOUSLY!?"
"STOP INTERRUPTING ME!"
Vanessa's enraged shriek silenced the Red Team as she once again, for the third time, cleared her throat and continued again.
"I was a witch who was skilled at antic collecting and demon-slaying, but I am long past my prime. But I had heard the news from my familiar that the Demon King Diablo planned to reincarnate a beast of ancient terror in hopes to use it against the human world. I devoted four months of my time of research to discover that the beast he was harboring was a Bai Ze!"
"A Bai Ze?" Lotte tilted her head in confusion.
"A Chinese term that stands for "white marsh" it is also known as the "King of Chaos" as it is a dark race that nearly destroyed humanity back in the Silver Age. It feasted upon human flesh, tortured the innocent with corrupted nightmares, and would even bring the night earlier than usual. They were the most powerful race of demons to exist in the entire realm, but then Demon Hunters formed guilds and hunted them down! A great war was launched known as The White Marsh War and the Bai Ze seemed to have been wiped out which was a blessing for humanity. But how so very wrong they were...one was able to escape the war and return to the Nether…
"It was female Bai Ze that was still pregnant and found refuge in the castle of Diablo. The Demon King cared for it like it was its own child but he never really loved the creature, he only wanted it to use to take over the human world. But the female Bai Ze was way too old and was seriously injured during the war. After it laid its egg it passed away, leaving behind the last of its kind."
Vanessa parted the bundles to reveal what she had been hiding. It was a red spheroid with orange zig zags around it.
"What is that?" Lotte asked.
"An egg?" Akko inches in closer.
"Not just any egg child," Vanessa continued, "This is the egg of the soon-to-be-born Bai Ze...but it cannot be born! If this creature walks the earth all of humanity will be doomed and blood will spill the lands once more!"
All three girls gulped at the sound and frightfulness of Vanessa's voice. This was serious.
"This is why I have come to you. I believe you who are in possession of the holy artifact can protect this egg from any demons who try to claim it. But please, do everything you can to make sure this egg does not hatch! Please! I am counting on you!"
Vanessa places the egg into Akko's hands and bowed solemnly.
"W-wait!" Lotte spoke up. "Why us!? Why do we have to take care of the egg!?"
"Because you are the ones with holy artifact!" Vanessa replied. "I trust you in girls! Farewell, for now, I will see you soon. Devium Ducit Ad Lucem!"
With that, a leyline portal appeared above her and sucked her in and Vanessa was gone. The Red Team stood in the bathroom with a deep look of confusion. Lotte looked even more confused than her teammates, actually it was more of fear than anything else.
"W-what just happened?" Lotte looked at her friends as if she was about to faint.
"Well," Akko said, "an old witch just gave us a demon egg that holds the most powerful evil creature in the world."
"B-but...why?"
"Let's hatch it."
Akko and Lotte turned to Sucy who had an evil look in her eyes.
"I'm curious to see this Bai Ze. I really wanna know what kind of terror it can afflict on people~..."
"NO!" Lotte yelled as she stood up against Sucy. "You heard what Miss Vanessa said! People will die if this monster is born! We can't let that happen!"
"Oh come on Lotte!" Sucy snickered. "It actually might be fun, you don't know~..."
"Death is not fun!"
"Lotte is right Sucy."
The two Red Team members turned to Akko who had their back to them and was still holding onto the egg.
"We can't let this thing hatch. If this creature is released will all be in danger."
Lotte breathed out in relief. "Thank you, Akko! I knew-"
"Yep, we can't hatch it, so~..."
Akko spun around to her teammates and hold up the egg with her eyes lit up and her mouth-watering.
"We'll eat it!"
"...huh?"
Author's Note:
Sorry for the long wait but here is the beginning of the crazy journey of Little Witch Academia: The Demon Egg! Vanessa is a character I created and I kinda passed her off of Roshi from DBZ and Genki from Yu Yu Hakusho. There are going to more Ocs (mostly of demons) and crazy and funny moments later on! I hope you all enjoy this story and stay tuned for the others.
Also a little word for my fans who are reading Little Witch Academia: The Fantasia Melody, I might be rewriting that story a bit to make it more dramatic and for it to make sense so that it fits in the timeline of the show. What I mean is the timeline is gonna be switched from it happening after the finale because that makes more sense in the contexts of the story. Everything else is gonna be generally the same. However, I feel like finishing this story first before that because Fantasia Melody is longer. I will let you know. Thank you for your patience and stay healthy!
