The group had readied themselves for Kōga's arrival, but mostly for the impending bickering that the two were no doubt going to engage in. After waiting a few minutes, Kōga arrived in his usual whirlwind fashion stopping just short of Kagome. "Why, hello Kagome, lovely afternoon isn't it?" Kōga said taking Kagome's hand. "Uh yeah, it sure is," She said uncomfortably. "Hey! Get your filthy wolf paws off her!" Inuyasha yelled as he got nose to nose with Kōga. "I'm just making sure she's still being well taken care of by you mutt-face!" Kōga yelled back as the two began trying to force each other down with their heads. "Alright enough you two!" Songo said as she and Miroku began separating the two of them.
After getting them separated, Kōga noticed the new person traveling with Inuyasha's group. "Wait, you're not Inuyasha's brother, so then who are you exactly?" he said looking Azuma up and down. "As far as you're concerned I'm the top dog of this area, so tread lightly little wolf," Azuma said coldly as he stared directly into Kōga's eyes. "You think you're tough mutt?" Kōga yelled at Azuma. "No, toughness is for cowardly little puppies like you. I am powerful, and power isn't something you can achieve, no matter how many shards of the jewel you embed in yourself" Azuma said looking down at Kōga's legs.
As the two stared at each other for a moment or two, Inuyasha finally interjected. "Back off Kōga, as much as I'd love to see you torn limb from limb, I'd hate to have anyone besides me doing it. Plus I don't think you want to fight with him, He's as powerful if not more than Sesshomaru so I wouldn't test him too much," Inuyasha said smugly as he crossed his arms. The two continued to stare each other down for a few seconds before Kōga finally broke eye contact and crossed his arms. "Whatever, I have to meet up with my pack anyway," He huffed. "Kagome, I shall never be too far away from you," He said as he took her hand again. After smiling at her he immediately took off in his whirlwind, leaving the group in a cloud of dust and wind.
"Grr, damn that Kōga, I'm so sick of that jerk," Inuyasha growled as he watched Kōga fade into the distance. "You shouldn't let such minor trivial things get to you Inuyasha," Azuma said as he lightly dusted off his kimono. "Says you! Weren't you the one who was having a staredown with the bastard?" Inuyasha spat. "Don't mistake my pride for a petty squabble dear cousin. I put that wolf in his place because he failed to show the proper respect owed to me and my family and by extension of my family, your friends," Azuma said as the group began walking again. "Should our paths cross again and he decides to be more respectful, I shall show him the respect he is owed as a demon and a pack leader," He said. "Yeah well, if you ask me, you should have killed him right then and there," Inuyasha said.
"Still such a hothead, you really should try to relax more Inuyasha. Not every situation calls for an escalation to death you know," He said. "Your cousin is very wise," Miroku said as he put his hands together while walking. "You should take his advise and try to calm down more," He said as he walked closer to Inuyasha. "Oh yeah, I'll be sure to do that Miroku, and while I'm at it I'll take Sesshomaru's advice and give him Tessaiga so he can kill me with it," Inuyasha said giving Miroku a disgusted look. "I'm simply saying, you're cousin has a point," He said back not responding to Inuyasha's look. "Geeze Inuyasha, what's got you in such a bad mood today?" Sango asked as she walked closer to him. "Nothing OK, I'm fine," Inuyasha said coldly as he looked away. "Come on Inuyasha, what's wrong?" Kagome asked looking slightly concerned at him. "I said it's nothing alright, now just drop it!" He said harshly, giving her an annoyed look. "Fine!" She said back matching his harsh tone and moving closer to Azuma and Miroku. "Tonight is the Moonless Night, isn't it Inuyasha?" Azuma said slightly smiling at him.
"Oh that's right, tonight is the night you turn human. I completely forgot," Kagome said slightly shocked that it had slipped her mind. "OK fine! Yes, tonight is the night I lose my powers alright! And if you don't mind, I'd like to get to Kaede's village before night," Inuyasha said annoyed as he started walking a bit faster. "That's always been your problem dear cousin, you rely too much on your demonic blood to keep you safe rather than your head," Azuma said. "Well excuse me Azuma, not all of us are as naturally strong as you and Sesshomaru," He said back. As the group continued walking, Inuyasha finally spoke up again. "So, how was your visit with Sesshomaru anyway?" Inuyasha asked trying to sound uninterested. " It was eventful, his little green servant almost had a heart attack when he discovered who I was," Azuma said slightly chuckling. "And that Rin girl was terrified at first but apparently once she warms up to you, she will talk your ear right off," He said still chuckling. "But, Sesshomaru is good. Still bitter about that arm you cut off mind you, but good nonetheless," He said. "Yeah well, he'll get worse than that if he tries to take Tessaiga again," Inuyasha spat as he crossed his arms again.
"Why would Sesshomaru want Tessaiga?" Azuma asked with a curious tone in his voice. "Because his sword is useless to him so he wants mine instead," Inuyasha said harshly. "That's quite a shame, Tenseiga is a very powerful sword in its own right. I truly hope he learns to respect it one day," He said slightly sorrowfully. "Yeah right, as if you care," Inuyasha said as he looked back at his cousin. "Your sword is more powerful than both of them, I highly doubt you want that to change," He said as he slightly glared at Azuma.
"Inuyasha, would you please stop being such a jerk!" Kagome yelled at him growing more and more fed up with him. "It's quite alright Miss Kagome, I've dealt with it for quite some time now," He said reassuring her. "And as to what you said dear cousin, MY sword is only more powerful because I have fully mastered it. Once you and Sesshomaru fully master Tessaiga and Tenseiga respectively, my sword won't even pale in comparison," He said with almost a slight hint of pride in his voice. "Yeah right," Inuyasha said dismissively. He could hardly believe his cousin would ever want to relinquish the power he held, he had never been one for humility so why would that change now?
