"Be careful!", Cole yelled. Quickly, Nya jumped aside to dogde the debree falling from the tower. It smashed into the ground right next to her, shaking her up to her boots. This was not at all going to plan.
2 hours earlier
"So, who's broken out of the plutonium prison?", Jay asked. "Actually, it's called the prison kryptarium.", Zane said. "That's not answering my question.", Jay complained. Nya intervened: "I dunno exactly, but they said it's just one. Shouldn't be too hard, but we still gotta do it. Kai, are you sure you don't want to use a sword? You know that your firepowers aren't up to full height." Kai answered confidentily. "I still have years of martial arts training. Just because I'm not using a weapon doesn't mean I can't protect myself." "Alright.", Nya sighed. She looked into her glass of water. It was swirling, like if you pull the plug of a bathtub. She had noticed that this had been happening to her everytime she was nervous. "I wonder if any of the others do the same", she muttered. Nya made the water rise up from the glass and form a shape well known to her: the old smithy where she and Kai grew up. Nya sighed again.
"Please buckle your seatbelts, we are now going to land.", Pixals voice sounded over the speaker. "Very funny, Pixal", Kai muttered. He checked his parachute again. The air was not his element. "Prepare to jump in 3...2...1...Now!", Nya yelled. The ground opened beneath them and Kai realized that he hadn't known fear before this moment. He was helplessly trying to stay in the ship while the ground opened up beneath him, like an terrifying hole without a ground. Kai tumbled, and he fell. His eyes were met with the pain of 120 km/h winds and his limbs felt like they were made of jello. Kai tried opening his parachute - only for his arms to experience pain like a baseball bat hitting them. Why did he agree to this, he wondered. The ground came ever so close, and like a stone Kai was falling. What a fitting end, he thought. Just as meaningless as Lloyd.
Suddenly, there were arms around him, holding him up. Someone had activated his parachute and held on to him. "Come on, Kai, you can do this", someone said, but the wind carried every chance of him recognizing it away. Then, suddenly, it was over. The winds stopped, and they landed softly on the ground. Kai fell to his knees and started crying. "I'm alive. Oh moon, I'm alive!", he sobbed.
Nya looked at her brother in pity. All his confidence had melted away, and he had broken down on the ground weeping. Kais parachute was lying on the ground next to him uselessly, a perfect metaphor for his own situation. "Come on, get up. We have some pirates to beat up.", Nya said. She grabbed Kai by the shoulder and helped him up. He stood up slowly, as if there was a huge weight on his back keeping him down. Then he got rid of his parachute and pulled his sword out of his shoulder pouch. In the meantime, the rest of the group had caught up to them. "Then let's do this", Cole said.
"You said there was a small breakout. You didn't say anything about the entire prison having collapsed in upon itself.", Jay complained. "It was an honest mistake! How am I supposed to know that 'One prisoner has broken out' means 'The Great Devourer has been freed, oopsie'?", Nya replied. "How is it even there? I thought it exploded!" "Nope. Well, yeah, but it didn't explode completely. The Devourer was just returned to his original state, as big as my hand." "Okay, all nice and well, but how do you know this?" "I helped Wu take it here. They had to build an extra security vault for it." "I don't wanna interrupt your fascinating discussion, but what the fuck should we do now?", Cole asked. "We have to attack it. It's relatively small at the moment, and we cannot allow it to grow to the size it had.", Nya answered. "Might I remind you that we don't have the Golden weapons?" "Might I remind you that it's just a big snake?" Cole sighed. "Alright then. If I die, I want the priest to say that it's all your fault. Ninja-GO!"
The ninja spun towards the snake, rocks, lightning and ice shooting from them. Nya was flying overhead, and Kai just ran at the Great Devourer. Suddenly, the serpentine turned towards them and let out a mighty hiss. "Should we be concerned, guys?", Kai asked, and as if on command, the snake pulsed forward towards them. Zane, Jay and Kai jumped oug of its way in time. Cole was hit by the snakes tooth ever so slightly. Immediately, he felt the pain pulse through his foot. But what he saw was even worse. Poison was dripping from his foot, and he knew the Great Devourers poison. "No, no, no! I don't want to be like Garmadon!"
In the meantime, Nya had managed to jump on the head of the beast. But unlike the first time they met it, the Great Devourer now was moving with jerking motions, almost like spasms. Nya pulled out her daggers and rammed them into the Devourers neck. But while it helped to stabilize her, the snake seemed unfazed by it. Nya felt sick. Her arms were getting weak and her hands couldn't grip to the daggers much longer. She felt blood spraying on her right hand, etching it. In a last desperate attempt, Nya rammed the blades into the snakes neck to the handle. Then, her arms gave out and she fell.
Nya tried to stabilize herself in the air, but without her arms, she was helpless. "To think that it will end like this", she thought. The ground moved ever closer, the markings of the prisons old basketball place still there.
Suddenly, there was a heat beside her, pulling her up like an air current pulls up an air plane. She felt Kai beside her, bringing her softly to the ground. She landed on her feet, though a little unsure. "You gotta go for the neck. It's more vulnerable there." Kai nodded at her. Then, he unleashed a fiery inferno upon the snake, strong enough to melt metal. The snake didn't even seem to notice. "For fucks sake...", Kai said. Then, he started running for it.
In the meantime, Zane had tried to stabilize Cole, with only half good results. Because even though the snake did not attack them due to Jays and Kais diversion, the venom of the Devourer ran deep. So the android said: "Cole, you have two choices. Either I remove your leg or we leave the battlefield and try to treat your wound in a safer place. The second one has a low probability of actually working". "Be careful!", Cole yelled. Quickly, Zane pulled them both aside. "Sorry. Didn't mean us. Nya was about to be smashed by a rock. I'm all for amputation and stuff, but maybe we should at least try to heal me first?" "Of course." Zane picked up Cole and carried him away.
The spider sat in a dark room, moving her hands in jerking motions. The snake had proven more useful than she thought. But it was not her intention to kill off the ninja. One was enough. Her hands came to a rest.
The Great Devourer fell. Unlike the first time, it did not explode into a thousand pieces. It just hit the ground with a massive Thud that shook the ninja horribly. "What the fuck just happened?", Jay asked. "I guess it wasn't all that invulnerable and just acted tough?" Kai stepped closer to the Devourer. "Nevermind, I found the reason. I managed to melt Nyas daggers, and I guess liquid metal dripping down your throat is not the most healthy thing in the world. Actually, I shouldn't say that. It's probably the healthiest thing on the dark continent."
Then Kai remembered that he had injured friends. "How are Cole and Nya?", he asked. "I'm fine, but I don't see Cole anywhere", Nya answered. "Zane carried him away a minute or two ago. They're probably somewhere the giant snake isn't, but that's just my guess", Jay said.
Ten minutes later, the ship landed and the ninja entered it. "What a fucking day that was", Kai sighed. "Mind your language. Master Wu could be listening.", Jay answered. "Sorry. What a fricking day that was. Zane, can I help you with Cole?" "Actually, yes. I hoped that you could try to burn the poison out in a way that does not hurt him a lot.", Zane answered. "Aight." And all three disappeared around a corner.
"Kai's right. It's been a fricking day. Should we talk to Harumi today or tomorrow?", Jay asked Nya. "I can almost hear Master Wu." "Never put off until tomorrow what can be done today." "Yes, he sounds exactly like that! How did you do that?" Sensei Wu coughed. "Oh no. I guess we'll go off and interview Harumi. Maybe she's got some hot takes for us to publish."
