Weeks Later
Brooke sighed deeply as she ate her breakfast and flipped through the tv channels in the kitchen. An everything bagel toasted with cream cheese. And a tall glass of orange juice.
"From the early nights and even earlier mornings happening around here lately involving you. I take that as a sign. The daze you were in because of Lucas is over.?" Peyton asked. Looking over herself in the mirror as she entered the kitchen.
Brooke took a long sip from her glass and stared up at her best friend.
"We met up at lunch. Out of the blue. We talked. And ate. I gave him my cellphone number. I thought we connected. It's been two weeks since i've seen him. He hasn't called me once."
"Maybe i built things up in my head too much. What do you think i should do.?" Brooke asked.
"I think you need to relax and stop overthinking things. If and when he wants to reach out he will. You like being in control. In this case. He's the one that is in control so just take things as they happen. If you see him again bring it up." Peyton replied.
"Someone's getting very dressed up for breakfast. Where are you headed.?" Brooke asked with a smile.
"To Jake's. He's officially moved back to town. I'm going to be spending alot of time over at his place. Being a long distance couple is finally over." Peyton said with a happy grin.
"I'm overjoyed for you and him. Fill me in on how breakfast went later." Brooke replied.
"You know i will." Peyton said. As she left the kitchen.
...
"No video games. No tv. No fun at all. You are grounded" Lucas scolded.
"That isn't fair! You don't even know the whole story!" Leo shouted.
"I know enough. You refusing to come in after recess. Ignoring the teacher when she calls on you and not doing you're homework but making it seem like you did. Lying to me about it. None of that behavior is acceptable.!" Lucas exclaimed.
"Larry never gives me these problems but you! Lucas exclaimed.
"I'm sorry i'm not perfect like him. How difficult for you!" Leo shouted. As he got out of the car and slammed the car door behind him.
Lucas let out a frustrated sigh. He watched as his sons went into the home and closed the front door behind them.
It was only then did he pull out of the driveway and get back to work.
He went through his work day professional and reserved as always. He went into his lunch hour looking forward to the break it would bring.
As he scrolled through his contacts. He paused when he landed on Brooke's cell number.
It was only then that he realized he had forgotten to call her. Technically she hadn't asked to be called but she had given her number and that in itself sent a message.
When he clicked on her number and put the phone to his ear as it rang. He was relieved to hear her voice on the third ring.
"Mr. Scott. I was beginning to wonder if you were a figment of my imagination. What can i do for you.?" Brooke asked.
"Meet me for lunch at the river's edge or meet me for dinner tonight.?" Lucas asked.
Brooke smiled. Feeling her heart race. He was keeping true to his word and not playing games he was outright asking her out.
"Both. I'll meet you in a few minutes." Brooke replied.
...
By the time Brooke got there Lucas was already waiting in line.
Lucas felt his heart surge. Seeing her walk over to him. With that dimpled grin. Had this affect on him he couldn't explain.
Brooke was wearing a blue Confetti Print Belted A-Line Dress. And black sandals.
"I will explain my absence with not calling you until now. Once we get seated." Lucas said.
"You don't have too. We're both busy adults." Brooke replied. Trying to act as if she wasn't as eager and curious as she truly was.
Once they got their orders from the food trucks. The two sat down beside each other.
"From salad to Nachos that's a shift. I thought you were all healthy eating. I for one am not. I eat everything. Love dessert. Then again growing up with you're mom running a cafe. Helps alot with that." Lucas proclaimed.
Brooke laughed. "You don't walk around with this body. From eating salads only. I love food. Especially dessert. But i have a brand to promote. I have to look a certain way and present myself in public in a way that is expected of me."
"So did you lose my number or what.?" Brooke questioned.
"I meant to call you that night. But i got side tracked with my job and my kids. I'm a single father to twin 11 year old boys."
"Kids aren't for everyone. If that's a deal breaker for you. I fully understand." Lucas admitted.
Brooke reached out putting her hand on his.
"Not at deal breaker at all. I love children. I want to be a mother one day. Yet as the yeears pass by and the failed marriages pile up. I begin to wonder if that's a possibility for me."
"I've been married twice before. Once at 18. The second at 21. Both ending within a few years. Being young and searching for love in the wrong places will get you that. Brooke admitted.
When he turned his gaze from her. She took a deep breath.
Wondering if she said too much. Was he judging her.?
