Harry Potter and the SCP Foundation

Chapter 2 - Containment Breach!?

For a scientist there are many things to aspire to and among the most important things that comes to mind if any is to be part of something truly world changing or in some cases world shattering.

Days existed once upon a time where great individuals made leaps in human intellect by discovering something that jump-started a new way of life for the human race.

Fire, electricity, splitting the atom to name a few were cornerstones; a bedrock to what would later be the framework that made technology do acts that were indistinguishable from magic or dare it be said no different from acts of God.

Maybe this is why one 'Doctor Rallim' was working at the SCP Foundation; because where else would a scientist with high level access find true examples of what anyone would consider ground breaking entities that break natural law.

And he was not the only one... for at 'Site-81', everyone has access.

Site-81; one of the primary facilities for holding anomalies, sitting in the cafeteria area eating a well deserved lunch sat group of colleagues, discussing their day and the SCP's they've had to privilege of working on. Compared to the security who were known for their profession stoic presence, the scientists that worked alongside them were a different breed to them. Excitable one moment and serious the next at the prospect of working close to anomalies, you could mistake them as interns fresh from university but with a little too eager-beaver in them for some of the less scientifically inclined personnel. But they followed their orders and took procedure seriously, that much you could trust about them whereas the soldiers/security, you trust them to no shoot you unless your an escaped project.

"I'm telling you '294' could easily do more if we just tweaked it!" Said Doctor Harp who was really excited over something he felt to be important. "If we could somehow use '914' unique properties on it, just imagine..." He trailed off at the last part, but the implication was there. Everyone looked to agree with him. To Doctor Rallim this was daily life here at Site-81.

Day and night no matter the time, everyone working in their fields of study are always talking about the potentials for the anomalous objects hidden behind the miles of concrete surrounding them. And they are not wrong. The limits to what could be achieved if applied properly were unimaginable. When you have seen what they have seen, such enthusiasm was to be expected and encouraged in some cases. The idea that one of the SCP's could be used to create unlimited energy was an appealing prospect to consider, not only would it solve a lot on the energy crisis if or when it happens, but depending on what energy they are trying to control... limitless potential indeed.

Science fiction made a reality.

This being said, Rallim also knew that one must not lose themselves in the pursuit of discovery, for as one knows, the road to hell is paved in good intentions. And the SCP Foundations mandate is in advance of safeguarding humanity from those things both too wonderful and gross but not for the timid, which means that the road made by the foundation must look like an event horizon; not even beyond the edge can be seen.

"What do you think 'Ral'?" Rallim looked at his colleague; paused in deep thought, considering his words here. "If we did that, just think what other kinds of materials it could create."

Rallim sipped from his flash before responding. "Interesting as it is I cannot say if I agree." His colleague face dropped in disappointment. "Don't be discouraged though because while there are a number of items, both anomalous and non-anomalous, that can be changed by '914' we have yet to fully grasp why. Find out why first before moving onto the next steps."

Everyone at his table nodded, understanding that before anything should be attempted, learn as much as possible first. Too many mistakes and incidents have occurred because someone was too impatient to be safe when exploring the unknown, as the all knew too well.

"Still Doctor; imagine if we could? The applications alone would be limitless to say the least."

Rallim smiled and then took a swig once more. "I couldn't agree more friend but ask yourself this. If you could enhance one SCP like let us say... '005' which we all know from the reports what that can do," Everyone nodded. "what if we enhanced it to accidentally unlock more than just doors?" Confusion set in around him from his peers as if not quite grasping what he was getting at. "When people hear the word key they instantly think of door and the lock." He looked around to make sure they were all listening; this was something they had to hear from him. "But a door can take any shape and mean many things so tell me, do you want to be responsible for unlocking a door to unknown pastures where dangers may be waiting?"

Everyone understood what he was referring to and why he warning against such things. As a scientist Rallim believed that one had to be vigilant when dealing with anything, no matter how much they think they understand. The Foundation exists as a testament to this fact that not everything is fully known or can be understood to the point that one could control it; best that it be secured, contained and protected.

"You eggheads always talk too much you know!"

When that remark was made, all the scientists looked towards where it emenated from. On the other side of the cafeteria on another table sitting alone was one of the many intrepid security guards of the facility; enjoying his meal. Mash potatoes with peas and sausage by the looks of it, food of champions.

"What that supposed to mean?" Asked a female scientist in the group and the guard looked up.

"You all speak as if you're going to put what you discover to use but you forget who you are working for." He responded but he was not finished. "You wish to make the world a better place well your doing that by learning about the monsters and freaks we have locked away. But using them, creating something that can help humanity... that is a joke and not a funny one either."

The female scientist stood tall. "You sound as if SCP's are all inherently bad and that all they can do is harm us?" It was a question of sorts she was aiming at the guard but there was no indication that he noticed or cared. "What reason would you think this? If you know as much as we do then you are aware that there are 'Safe' SCP's"

The guard just stared at her with cold eyes. "Do you know where I spend most of my time?" He asked. No one responded so he continued. "I guard '682' where I make sure that the monster is not trying to escape from its acid bath in its containment level." The scientists looked green for a moment, their meals looked less appetizing for the moment because like the guard, everyone knew about that particular SCP. "Have you ever seen it, interacted with? Let me tell you, while you are all talking about changing the world for the better there are things out there that simply want to kill us and that is where your focus should be; on stopping those things not trying to cure cancer or find a vaccine for Ebola; finding a way to kill those fucking freaks for good."

No one said a word for a long paused moment. It was like something very important had shattered and a calm had set in the vacuum left behind.

The eye of the storm.

The calm was short lived however as red and yellows lights filled the room with alarm setting off and two words being spoken through the sound systems all over, two words that no one like to hear under any circumstances.

"CONTAINMENT BREACH... TO ALL ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL; SCP-173 HAS BROKEN CONTAINMENT... I REPEAT..."

Everyone in one swift movement rose from their calm and got to work. Guards were the first to start moving all essential personnel to safe locations for immediate evacuation and to prepare countermeasures against what level of breach they are facing.

Procedure dictated that scientists be moved to relative safety at all costs so as not to impede the Foundation Security Force.

This is what started to happen but it did not last long. As soon as the scientists reached the door and guard prepared themselves for combat, the alert protocols had all stopped and everything went back to being calm.

"Is it over?" Said a random voice in the crowd.

What soon followed was a voice speaking over the intercom.

"Doctor Rallim please report to SCP-173 observation."

Everyone looked to Rallim and even he looked confused. What could possibly be going on to require him at 173's containment was the thought he was having. Things were not normal, this was not normal by any kind of manner.

So with haste he made his way there with no idea what to expect.

When he arrived he was surprised indeed. If anything, Doctor Rallim was underwhelmed.

The moment he made it passed the information marker for SCP-173 he expected the large blast door which contained the anomalous statue to be open... but it was not. Past incidents proved that when this SCP was involved, doors were never an obstacle for it so this was peculiar.

He was not surprised by the number of armed personnel either. Standard protocol for potential threats was to have security armed with advanced anti-personnel weapons like security foam and explosive rounds at the ready. And since SCP-173 was one such dangerous entity that was in no way unexpected at all. You don't get the 'Euclid' rating designated to you for being a nice SCP.

In most cases where a breach was imminent he was never shocked by the lengths the Foundation went to keep one of their many prizes they hold tightly locked away from reaching out into the world. While many of the listed SCP's are already out there and have been for many years, there are ones that even a scientist like himself would not dare imagine about if they ever saw the light of day. An un-killable monster came to mind.

But for the first time in a long time he is surprised.

The blast door was closed tight but there appeared to be dents in the surface of the door as if something had tried to punch through. Up to twenty armed security personnel where lined up with their guns at the ready to stop any attempt of an escape by its contents. Bloodshed was guaranteed if that thing got free and it was still inside as far as everyone else could tell but with one difference which no one could deny seeing.

While SCP-173 was still inside its cell, outside the cell door in the control area with Doctor Rallim and the guards and two out the three D-Class personnel 'Where was the third?' was lights and sparks coming from beneath the door, a door that now that he took a closer look seemed to have been closed with extreme force; causing the alloy to have distorted as a result. Several inches of titanium metal looked to have been bent by something... very strong... was it SCP-173... or something else?

Everyone jumped as another bang sounded in the room and a fresh dent appeared on the door. There were sounds coming from inside the containment, sounds of a struggle. But there were clear hints that it was as if something was fighting given the number of grunts and what could be mistaken for flesh hitting something.

Doctor Rallim turned to one of the guards. "What is going on?" The guard turned to him.

"We have no idea. By the time we got here the door was already closed and these two wastes" The guard pointed at the D-Classes. " were against the wall scared shitless." The guard never took his eye off the door as more sounds of what now could be distinctively heard as fighting going on inside rebounded of the inside wall of the cell. One sound reminded them of concrete or stone scraping around but very fast moving and another sounded distinctively like a person now.

"What about the cameras? Have you tried them?" Rallim asked as his curiosity got the best of him. He wanted... needed to know what was going on. If something was holding its own against the fast moving SCP then that was something that needed to be studied.

"First thing we tried but something fried the cameras so we cannot get a visual of the inside and the controls were busted by the same electrical problem that fried the cameras so we cannot open the door with the proper tools." Said the guard.

Fuck, shit and balls were some of the words Rallim was thinking because whatever was happening in that room would eventually spill out into the main hall and then the whole facility. Even if his curiosity was now being tested he was not so arrogant to risk their operations and experiments by causing a site wide clean and sweep. No, they needed to deal with this here and now.

Suddenly the lights in the control room started flickering on and off; which was a worry. One could now feel the nerves in the room, like testosterone when athletes flex in the changing room but this was fear saturating the air. Without a clear line of sight on SCP-173 it would be a slaughterhouse in moments if it got out.

Even Rallim was feeling himself fall into a pit of fear but again he knew what must be done. They could not risk this scenario playing out. And then his eyes widened as his ears rang at the one sound he was hoping not to hear.

Creaking sounds started filling the room as the door started moving up and the lights started failing one by one like dominos. Even the guards equipment began to fail and worry started setting in droves over the group of hardened soldiers. And before they had a chance to respond, the door had opened and standing there in all its tall glory was SCP-173 with its arms out.

This was what they feared happening.

The guards were about to fire as where their orders but they did not get a chance as Rallim stepped in front of the firing line.

"DOCTOR WHAT FUCK ARE YOU DOING?"

The guards words fell on deaf ears. The doctors attention was on SCP-173 which at this moment was just standing on the threshold of freedom for itself. It had the advantage, the lights were off and there were no other light sources to speak of from the facility; none accept the one light source emanating from SCP-173.

"Doctor," Said one of the guards. "why is it just standing there?"

The doctor looked and kept looking as if trying to notice something out of the ordinary on SCP-173. He still could not make heads or tails on the light he noticed around it; it was akin to an aura of energy on its skin. The light coming from it was not from some torch or flame as far as he could tell, it was like the statue was glowing itself and that is why everyone could see it and that is why it stopped moving. They see it and it stops moving; it only moves when it is not observed and it kills you, that is why everyone was afraid; the light was why they were relieved.

The question now was what was creating this light that saved their lives.

"Where do you think you're going?" A voice spoke as suddenly the glowing statue was pulled back into the room where it was thrown hard against the interior leaving dents in its wake.

Through all this the guard kept the sights on SCP-173, along with Doctor Rallim who looked absolutely astonished and the two D-Class who looked to have pissed-and-or-shit-themselves as they sighted the other occupant in the cell.

Standing by the entrance; wearing slightly worse for wear orange jumpsuit was the third D-Class who at this moment had his hand aimed at the statue, palm spread open as if he was holding it back. His green eyes surveyed his surroundings, eyes that looked to be illuminating a emerald glow, and the armed guards who at that moment took aim at him with their weapons; to which one took out his radio and shouted into it.

"WE NEED BACKUP!" Everyone was standing on a hair-trigger now and panic was at its highest. "WE HAVE AN SCP LOOSE."
