Chapter 3: For the Greater Good

It was so cold. Adrian hated the rain, and it was pouring. He couldn't help but think that maybe the weather reflected Marinette's emotions. At that moment, what he wished more than anything, was to hold Marinette and tell her that everything was going to be okay. The two miraculous holders were making their way to the Agreste mansion, but the darkness and thunder that covered the sky made it harder and harder for them to get through the city.

"Chat Noir, how are we going to make it there in time?" Rena questioned, clearly out of breath and soaked.

He furrowed his eyebrows, taking a moment to pause and think. A thought ran through his mind: "think like Ladybug for a second." Chat began scanning his surroundings, much like how Ladybug would after summoning her lucky charm. She was always so intuitive and clever. What would he do without her?

Suddenly, Chat Noir saw a light in the distance. "Bingo," he whispered.

Rena raised her eyebrows, "uhh, what exactly are you thinking?"

He smiled and pointed to the sky. "We're gonna need her help." Rena looked in the direction Chat Noir was pointing and saw none other than the Queen Bee signal.

She smiled and nodded in agreement. The more back-up they had, the better. Chat reached into Marinette's purse to take the bee miraculous and protectively clutched it in his fist before taking his baton to help him move closer to Chloe's rooftop.

Rena followed closely behind when another idea came to mind. "Chat, wait!"

He didn't stop but slowed down so they would be moving side-by-side. "What is it, Rena?"

"Do you happen to have the turtle miraculous on you, I think I know someone who could help us. I can call him so that we won't waste any more time getting to Adrian's house!"

"Good idea! Who did you have in mind?" Chat asked, genuinely intrigued

Blood rushed to Rena's cheeks. "Uh, my boyfriend, Nino saved me before as Carapace when my sister was akumatized. We can trust him," she said, suddenly getting shy.

Chat Noir was in shock. Nino?! Why did he not know that basically ALL of his friends were fighting alongside him all this time? At this point, he could've assumed that Nathalie was Ladybug, and he would still be oblivious. He shivered in disgust at that thought. No, that would be beyond weird. Thank goodness Ladybug was his person, Marinette.

He realized quickly that Rena was waiting for a response. "Y-yes, call him. I'm sure we will need him in our battle.

She gave him a weird look and took out her civilian cellphone to send Nino a message to meet them at Adrian's house, say she would explain later.

With one last jump, the two landed on Chloe's roof. Sabrina jolted in surprise, "AH, Chloe, they're here!"

The blonde turned around and smirked, "well, it's about time. Of course, you would need Queen Bee's help!" Chloe bragged in and sassy tone.

Chat Noir fought back the urge to roll his eyes. "You're right Chloe, but this is a serious mission. Marinette got akumatized, and she is more powerful than ever," he stated solemnly, becoming sad again at the thought.

Chloe's gaze softened. "I'm sorry, that was rude of me. I do want to help. I-I know that I've hurt Marinette before, and maybe this is what I need to do to make things right."

Rena and Chat exchanged a look, genuinely surprised that Chloe would ever say that.

"But if you ever tell her I told you this, you will be hearing from my Father," she added, crossing her arms as if she didn't care

Ah, there it is. Regardless, Chat Noir revealed the bee miraculous to Chloe. "Here is the bee miraculous, which grants the power to immobilize your enemies. You will use it for the greater good, and you will return the miraculous to me when we finish our battle."

Chloe squealed in excitement but quickly composed herself to receive the miraculous. "Pollen, buzz on!"

Sabrina, hiding behind everyone, perked up, "you look stunning, Queen Bee!"

"Yes, I know," Chloe acknowledged, admiring her suit. "But, stay inside Sabrina, we don't want you to get hurt."

The girl began to gush. "You do care about me!"

"Don't read into it! Just-just, take my stuff and protect it inside my room. Ridiculous, utterly, ridiculous!" the blonde ordered.

Without missing a beat, Sabrina took all of Chloe's things and disappeared into the building.

Queen Bee let out a sigh of relief. "Okay, so what's the plan?"

Chat Noir slapped his palm against his forehead. This was going to be a long day.

Rena took over out of sympathy. "We have to get to Adrian's house, and fast. We think that's where Princess Justice will strike next."

"Trouble in paradise?" Queen Bee interjected, but her eyes widened at the realization she said that out loud due to Chat Noir staring daggers at her comment.

"We think she's after Mr. Agreste. He was trying to break up Adrian and Marinette."

"Oh…" she muttered, immediately becoming guilty.

Chat Noir shook his head, but Rena continued, "anyways, hopefully, once we get to the house Marinette won't be there yet so that we'll be able to get Gabriel, Adrian, and his workers out. Since Mari won't be expecting us, we will have the upper hand in deakumatizing her."

"Uh, I think you guys are missing something," Queen Bee stated, looking at them as if they were dumb.

Rena scoffed, "and what is that, your majesty?" she spat.

"Where is Ladybug? You won't be able to deakumatize Marinette without her."

Chat looked down in despair with the two girls staring at him, clearly looking for some answers. "Look, I have Ladybug's miraculous right now, but I can't tell you anything other than that without risking her identity."

The girls looked at each other, still quite confused as to what his plan was then. "Once I use my cataclysm to destroy her umbrella, I will quickly hide and transform into Mister Bug, so that I can use the Miraculous to fix everything, de-evilize the akuma, and bring everyone back safely! Simple as that!" he finally answered, saying it a little too fast, so he was out of breath. But the girls understood.

"Alright, then we got your back," Rena said, leaning onto her back leg.

"Yeah, you can count on us Chat Noir! Besides, us girls will always get the job done," Queen Bee added, raising her hand for a fist bump.

He finally smiled, lifting up his fist to meet theirs. "Let's do this."

With that, the three heroes jumped off the building, freefalling into the night. They reached Adrian's house in record time and found Nino hiding behind the walls of the mansion.

Rena smiled. "Nino, over here!" she called in a loud whisper.

His head turned towards the miraculous holders and crouched his way to them. Once he crossed the street, Rena engulfed her boyfriend into a protective hug. "I'm so glad you're safe!"

Nino smiled and hugged her back. When they released each other from their embrace, Nino looked at Queen Bee and Chat Noir and blushed. "H-hey dudes, so, I heard you need my help?"

Chat Noir chuckled. "Yes we do, but first, has Marinette gone inside the house yet?"

Nino shook his head, "No, I haven't seen her yet. I'm not sure what's taking her so long."

Chat let out a sigh of relief. "Okay, that's good, but we don't have much time." He reached into the purse, taking the turtle miraculous. "Nino, this is the miraculous of the turtle which grants the power of protection. You will use it for the greater good, and return it to me when this is over."

Nino took the miraculous and placed it on his wrist. "Alright dudes! Wayzz, shell on!"

With all transformed heroes, they were finally ready.

"Okay, I think our safest bet would be to go through the window on the second floor and explain to Adrian or Mr. Agreste why we need to protect them. Then, Rena and Carapace will go to the main floor and evacuate the workers while keeping an eye on the front entrance," Chat Noir instructed.

"Hey, excuse me, what about Queen Bee," she interrupted.

Chat rolled his eyes, "I was just about to get to that. You will stay with me and protect Mr. Argeste in case Princess Justice gets through."

The three others nodded at his plan and followed Chat Noir to the back of the mansion. They snuck through the side and used their tools to get over the fence. When they landed softly into the yard, Chat Noir pointed to Rena and Carapace to move to the front of the building, while nudging Queen Bee to move with him to get through the windows.

The gang dispersed and got to work. Queen Bee took out her top and hooked it to a large window facing the back of the house. She gestured to Chat Noir to take her hand, and they both pulled up into the room. It was dark but somewhat familiar to the blonde girl. "Wait, this is Adrian's room. Why isn't he here?" she whispered to Chat.

The boy shrugged, trying to play it off. "Maybe they already got him out, now let's go!"

The two crept through the room, and gently closed the door behind them. Queen Bee noticed a large door at the end of the hallway. "That's got to be his office," she concluded.

Chat nodded, she wasn't wrong. They stuck close the walls, staying low on their feet. The house was dark and eerily quiet. Once they reached the large wooden door, Chat Noir took in a deep breath before turning the handle.

"Mr. Agreste?" Chat whispered before standing on his feet after hearing nothing in return. He looked around, using his night vision to try and find his Father. Anxiety bubbled in his stomach. What if he was too late?

"What are you doing here?" a low voice came from behind the two heroes.

They jolted in surprise but relaxed realizing it was just Gabriel Agreste. "Mr. Agreste, we need to evacuate you out of the house, now," Chat answered in an urgent tone.

The man had an indifferent expression on his face, "and why would I do that. I don't wish to be warped up in your silly superhero troubles."

"But, Mr. Agreste, you're in danger! We need to get you and your family out, now, before Princess Justice arrives," Queen Bee argued.

Chat Noir noticed that his Father was being suspiciously quiet, eyeing their miraculous. He shrugged off the thought and scoffed, grabbing his Father's hand by force, dragging him down the hall.

"You insolent boy, what do you think you're doing?!" Gabriel reprimanded, trying to force his way out of the cat's strong grip.

"If you're not going to listen to me, I'm going to save you one way or another. If that means I have to tie you up and drag you out myself, fine. You can either shut up and comply or I will have no problem having Queen Bee tie you and escort you out!"

The man was taken back. Why would this stupid creature care so much?

Queen Bee smirked, happy that Chat Noir was standing his ground and for the possibility to show off her own power.

Suddenly, the house began to shake beneath all of their feet.

"Chat Noir, Queen Bee! We need you!" Rena called from the main floor.

Chat grunted in frustration. "Queen Bee, get him out of here. I don't care how. Then meet us downstairs, quickly," he instructed before jumping over the rails of the stairs to soon come face-to-face once again with Princess Justice.

The miraculous holders gathered together, having each other's back when grey fog entered the room from the now opened front doors.

"Get ready." Chat stated while they took their stance.

Thunder was heard from outside the doors and a dark silhouette emerged from the darkness. Lightning cracked, allowing a little bit of light to show a soaked, psychotic-looking Marinette. They all stepped back in shock.

"Knock, knock, kitty," Princess Justice taunted. "I thought I was your only friend? I see you've replaced me again."

Chat froze at those words. It wasn't true.

Marinette sighed, "why won't anyone let me be happy? Don't I deserve a break from all of this," she asked rhetorically, her heels clicking against the marble floor.

Alya spoke up, " Marinette, I know this all seems horrible. But please, let us help you," she pleaded.

"No, Alya."

Rena and Carapace gasped. How did she know Alya's identity?

In a blink of an eye, the dark Princess raised her hand aiming straight for her friend, sending out a beam of energy.

"No!" Carapace exclaimed, jumping in front of his girlfriend, holding up a shield. But it was no match for her power and they both stumbled back, crashing to the ground.

Chat knew it was his turn to strike and reached for his baton to attack.

Mari used her umbrella to block his swing and sent another energy beam the moment he was left exposed. The three laid on the ground, already winded from her attacks.

Princess Justice laughed at their weakness. "I thought you would all put up more of a fight than that," she insulted, preparing another beam to finish them.

Alya then grabbed her flute to conjure up an illusion for them to escape. She created a fake Gabriel in the corner of the room, and when Princess Justice noticed it, she changed the direction of her beams. To blast him away.

The illusion of Mr. Agreste fell back as if he was hurt, and it still pained Chat to see that; no matter how angry he was. But the three of them got onto their feet and retreated to the top floor while their illusions fought off Princess Justice.

"What are we going to do?" Carapace questioned urgently. "She's way too strong!"

A soft groan was heard at the end of the hallway, and the heroes turned towards the sound.

"Oh my god, Chloe!" Alya exclaimed.

The girl lay on the ground, transformed back into her civilian form, with blood trickling down her lips. They all rushed to her side.

"Chloe, what happened?" Chat demanded while supporting her head.

The girl squinted in pain. "Chat Noir, he took my miraculous… I-I'm so sorry, I failed," she sobbed, guilty that she lost her kwami.

They all gasped. "No, why would Mr. Agreste do such a thing? We were here to help him!" Rena tried to rationalize, but Chat growled in anger.

"I'm so sorry. This is all my fault…"

They all looked at him confused. "No, dude, it's not your fault. We'll figure this out," Carapace said, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder.

An explosion of dust and bricks scattered from behind them, and Carapace release a shield to protect them. Chat covered Chloe's head protectively, just in case.

"Nice try, you sly fox, but you can't trick me anymore. I will have justice." the Princess said shakily, and raised her hand to throw another attack.

Once again, Carapace stood in front of his friends. "Go! I'll hold her off."

Rena and Chat nodded. The cat lifted Chloe off the ground, bridal style, as they jumped to the main floor again, running through the debris to get to the back exit.

Suddenly, a beam of light shot over their heads and the heroes turned around to see the Princess close on their tails. The laser set off a fire blocking off their escape. There was no choice but to fight her.

"Rena, take Chloe," Chat instructed, carefully placing the injured girl into her arms.

"Wait, Chat, what are you going to do?"

The black cat took out his baton and moved in between his lover and his friends.

"I'm going to finish this."
