That morning, there was a knock on his apartment door. And when Miguel opened it to see who was there, he couldn't decide whether or not he was surprised by his visitor.

"Hey," Hawk muttered, standing outside, hands in his hoodie pouch, eyes only managing to meet his for a fleeting moment before dropping to his feet.

"Hey," returned Miguel. What else could he really say after everything that had transpired not twenty-four hours ago?

Hawk stared at his face again, and if Miguel had to guess, he was getting a good look at the damage Kyler had dealt him the previous night. And, seeing the bruises, Hawk cringed and his eyes fell. "Can…Can we talk for a sec?"

He sounded like he was afraid Miguel would slam the door in his face. But Miguel nodded instead, stepping outside and closing the door behind him.

Hunching his shoulders, Hawk avoided his gaze. "I just wanted to say that I'm, y'know, I-I'm sorry."

Miguel sighed, then winced when that awoke the soreness in his ribs. He noted the concern on Hawk's face, but he had to respond back to that concern with the facts. "You led an invasion on Sam's home."

Hawk nodded. "Yeah."

"You attacked all of us." Miguel didn't bother masking the pain and betrayal laced in his words, because he was feeling both those things.

"Yeah." Shrinking more into his shoulders, Hawk's reply was barely above a whisper this time. And he still avoided Miguel's stare, like he was afraid it would burn him.

"And then I guess you helped save us," Miguel said, his voice softening. Hawk didn't reply. If anything, he looked more ashamed. There was only so much comfort he could find in helping stop the fight he'd started in the first place. But Miguel was still willing to give credit where it was due. Without Hawk turning on Cobra Kai at a pivotal moment, he couldn't say with certainty he and his friends wouldn't have ended up in the hospital. "What happened, Hawk?"

It was a loaded question, asking far more than just what had happened the previous night. And Hawk must have known. "I was wrong. Sensei was right. Kreese doesn't give a shit about anyone but himself." Finally, Hawk brought his eyes back up to meet his; there was sadness in them. "I should've trusted you. I'm so sorry, man."

He sounded sincere. He sounded genuinely remorseful. Miguel didn't doubt any of it.

And despite the lingering hurt that had been clenching his insides from the moment Hawk had chosen Cobra Kai over him, Miguel now felt that grip loosen. Because for as upset as he was, he was happier still to have his friend back.

"Is…Is Sensei still taking students?" asked Hawk.

Miguel raised his eyebrows in surprise. "You heard we combined the dojos?" Hawk nodded. "You know the others are probably gonna be pretty mad at you, right?" Cautious excitement stirred inside Miguel, hearing Hawk ask to join Eagle Fang, but he didn't want to give him a false impression that things would be easy for him. Not everyone would be happy to see him join. Least of all Sam.

"I know," said Hawk. "But I wanna make things right."

Those were the words Miguel wanted to hear. It would've been easy for Hawk to lay low, to run away from the mess he'd made. But he was here now, willing to confront his mistakes. So Miguel wouldn't deny him the opportunity to atone. "You wanna go ask Sensei right now?"

Hawk shrugged, clearly apprehensive about how Sensei was going to react. "As good a time as any."

A small smile spread over Miguel's face, and he extended his hand. The corners of Hawk's mouth curled the slightest, and he accepted it for a shake. They did their traditional fistbump, and Miguel even pulled him in for a bro-hug, although he winced again when Hawk slapped his back. "Oof. Careful, dude, still hella sore from last night."

"Sorry," Hawk apologized, sticking his hands back in his hoodie pouch. And when the two of them took the first step on the short trek that would put them at Sensei Lawrence's door, Hawk chanced another look at him. "And Miguel? Did you mean what you said earlier? About how it could be like before?"

It was all Miguel had wanted, ever since he'd gotten out of the hospital and saw what his friend had become.

He patted Hawk's shoulder. "Yeah."
