Chapter 3: Volenteers
"Katniss Everdeen" Katniss said. "Lana Xion Long" I said. "Well, let's have a big hand for our very first volunteers, Katniss Everdeen, and Lana Xion Long" Effie said. she started to clap her hands but the audience did not. instead, the audience gave us,
symbols to show us respect. "And now for the boys" Effie said. Effie then drew from the bowl. when she got a paper she unfolded it and read from it. "Peeta Mellark" Effie said. the guards led Peeta to the stage and Peeta stood,
on the other side of Effie. I held Katniss's hand as Effie was introducing Peeta to the crowd. "Now our 3 tributes from district 12. well, go on shake hands guys" Effie said. Katniss, Peeta, and I all shook hands. after we shook hands Effie took us back,
to separate rooms while we wait for the train. I had my own room and Katniss was in her own room as well. I was angry. angry that Effie had to pick Prim for tribute. without,
thinking I punched the wall angrily. "Ugh!" I cried. I wish I could kill myself right here, right now. after a while my family walked into my room. Yang walked up to me,
and hugged me. "Are you crazy Lana, why would you do that?!" Yang said. "I-I don't know I..." I stopped not knowing what to say. Salem walked up to me and slapped me,
hard in the face. "Ow" I said. "What the hell were you thinking?! After I told you to stay back and not Volunteer you did not obey me!" Salem yelled. "We all told you not to,
volunteer!" Ren shouted. Tears were streaming down my face. "I'm sorry...I...I couldn't help it" I said. Just then, the guards opened the door and let my best friend, Gale in.
Miss. Everdeen, and Prim also walked into the room. Gale walked up to me and hugged me. "are you okay?" Gale said. "Yeah, I'm okay. it's just a lot to handle" I said.
"I know, I understand. Listen to me, your stronger than they are. get a bow" Gale said. "They may not have one. besides, I only use my sword and my armor" I said and,
showed Gale my sword, shield, and my lasso. I had my armor on under my clothes. "They just want a good show, that's all they want. if they don't allow you to use your,
weapons, then you make a sword okay? you know how to fight...Grimm. it's no different Lana" Gale said. I nodded. "There are 25 of us Gale. only one comes out alive"
I said. "Yeah, and it's gonna be you, and Katniss" Gale said. just then the guards came in. I gave Gale one more hug. I then went over to hug Prim and Miss. Everdeen. "Take care of Prim?" I said to Miss. Everdeen. Miss. Everdeen nodded. "I will see you two soon okay?"
Gale said. I nodded. Gale, Prim, and Miss. Everdeen left the room. I looked at my family. "What about you guys?" I said. "Were coming with you" Weiss said. "What?" I said confused. "We talked to Effie, she allowed us to help you in the games" Blake said.
"But we won't compete" Weiss said. "So, you guys will be in the games with me but you guys won't be competing?" I said. "Yes. we will be there to help you" Yang said. "But what if the tributes kill you guys?" I said. "Don't worry. Effie said she will make it clear to the,
tributes not to kill us" Ruby said. I sighed. "Okay, I hope your right" I said. after a while we were in the car with Effie giving us instructions. "We will be at the capital in two,
days. now, before you do anything else" Effie said. Effie kept talking to us. when we stopped the guards then escorted us to the train. when we got to the train I was shocked,
by what I saw. the train was really fancy. we saw food, real food on the table. we don't have to pay for it or anything. after a while, we all sat down. "200 miles per hour,
and you can't feel anything. I think if it's one of the things about this special opportunity, that even though your here, and even though it's just for a little while, you get to,
enjoy all of this. I'm going to find Haymitch. he is probably in the bar car" Effie said. she then stood up and went to go get Haymitch. it was silent for a while but Peeta broke,
the silence. "Have you guys ever met him? Haymitch? you know Katniss and Lana, he is our mentor. he did win this once" Peeta said. Katniss and I said nothing. I looked,
around for my parents but they were not there. they were in some other room probably. my parents are my mentors too for the games. "Look, I know if you girls don't want to talk I understand. but I just don't think there is anything wrong with getting a little,
help" Peeta said. after a while a man came in. this must be Haymitch. he took a deep sigh. "Congratulations" Haymitch said. he then took some beer and poured it into a glass. "Where is the ice?" Haymitch said as he was looking around.
"I don't know" Peeta said. "May I?" Haymitch said. Haymitch then sat down next to me. I was sitting in the seat across from Katniss and next to the window. "Okay so...so when do we start?" Peeta said. "Woah...so eager" Haymitch said. "Most of you aren't in such a hurry"
Haymitch said as he took a sip of his beer. "Yeah, I wanna know what the plan is. you're our mentor. your supposed to go..." Peeta was cut off by Haymitch. "Mentor?"
Haymitch said confused. "Yeah, our Mentor. you're supposed to tell us how to get sponsors and give us advice" Peeta said. "oh, okay...umm, Embrace the probability,
of your imminent death. and know in your heart that there is nothing I can do to save you" Haymitch said. "so why are you here then?" Katniss said. "The refresments"
Haymitch replied, taking another drink. I sighed. "okay, that's enough of that I think" Peeta said as he was grabbing his drink from him. Haymitch stepped his foot on Peeta.
I can tell this is not gonna end well.
