Chapter 2
Usagi Devastated: Mamoru Declares a Break-Up
It was morning in Juban when Usagi and Sora were racing down the streets to meet up with Mamoru.
"You guys!" he called out to them.
The two of them stopped, and turned around.
"I'm impressed. So, are you out for a jog too?" asked Mamoru.
"Yep, us guys gotta stick together, right Mamoru?" replied Sora.
"You know it," smiled Mamoru, as they gripped hands with each other.
But they did back off a bit, so that Usagi could cuddle him.
"What a nice surprise to run into you like this, it makes me feel so very lucky," she sighed.
"Looks like you and I are meant to be together no matter what, huh Usako?" replied Mamoru.
"Well, anyway, we got some new bad guys to take care of, and they're gonna put out all the stops to try and break the bonds we've forged, specifically that girl we now know as Koan. But the bad news is, Chibiusa must've disappeared on us," said Sora.
"Oh yeah, that's right, we have a problem! Chibiusa's gone missing!" cried Usagi.
"Wow, I'm actually impressed, Sora. getting Usagi back on track," said Luna.
Then the four of them raced off.
"Do you think she was taken by this Koan?" he asked.
"I don't think so, but who knows?" replied Usagi.
"At any rate, it's far too dangerous for that young lady to be out by herself," said Luna.
On the playground, the girl who was also called Usagi sat on the swing looking melancholy, as Luna-P tipped to one side, while Usagi, Mamoru, and Luna all stood a safe distance away.
"There she is," said Usagi.
The other Usagi took hold of a key that was hanging around her neck, when the four of them approached her.
"Chibiusa, why'd you run off? No one knew where you went. So we've all been really worried," Usagi said soothingly.
"Hold your horses, Usagi. She just needs some alone time," Rei Xiao Long said, when she approached them.
"Thank you Rei, for understanding," Chibiusa said to them.
But Mamoru slowly approached her, and knelt down.
"Don't be sad," he said.
Chibiusa looked at him.
"Come on, I'll walk you home," continued Mamoru.
Chibiusa nodded.
"Okay, but on one condition," said Skylight.
"What's the condition?" asked Usagi.
"If you wish to call her Chibiusa, you must first ask her permission," Skylight replied, in a tone of voice that brooked no arguments.
"Great, now let's get going," said Mamoru.
But when Chibiusa touched his hand, Mamoru was soon overwhelmed with visions of the shining metropolis once again.
"Mamo/Mamoru, you okay?" Sora and Usagi asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Everything's good," replied Mamoru.
Luna was confused, but they still walked on nonetheless, with Chibiusa on Mamoru's back
"Anyway, Usagi, how are you feeling now?" Sora asked the pinkette.
"A bit better now, thanks to Mamo. Also, thanks for calling me Usagi, by the way," she replied.
"Speaking of which, Usagi, we both know that you and Mamoru are a couple now, but I'm sensing some conflict between you both," said Scarlet.
"Well, In a sense, Mamo and I do love each other a lot, but still, this other girl you call Chibi- I mean Usagi, is kinda starting to get under my skin, but I'm kinda curious as to why you and those other guys called yourselves her knights," replied the blonde Usagi.
"Still, you should be careful what you and Mamoru call Usagi, Usagi. If she wanted to be called Chibiusa, she'd let you do that with her explicit permission," said Ivory.
"Ugh, you're starting to sound a bit like the Rei I know, Ivory," grumbled Usagi.
"You wanna say it to my face, Miss Meatwad Head!?" snapped Rei, cracking her knuckles.
"Okay! Okay! Okay! Okay! Alright! OKAY! Look, I don't know why you share Rei's name Rei, but you've proven your point like Mako would," replied Usagi, who cowered in fear of being pummeled by Rei's fists.
"Yeah, Rei, take a chill pill," said Chibiusa.
"You know, young Miss Tsukino here, makes a valid point, Rei," agreed Verona.
"Thanks Verona," giggled Chibiusa.
"Uh, does anyone care if I have a say in the matter?" asked Sora.
"Oh, sorry Sora," replied Usagi.
"Anyway, while I acknowledge the bond you and Mamoru have forged, I want you to know that this Usagi, loves Mamoru with all her heart. And between the both of us, trying to tear them apart would only make them disappointed in you. But, I hope you understand that embracing Hakuna Matata means living life the way we want to," Sora said to Chibiusa.
"Come on you guys, let it go, but I do agree with Skylight saying we should call this kid Chibiusa by asking her permission," chuckled Mamoru.
"Hey, Skylight did you really have to enforce the permission part about me being called Chibiusa?" asked Chibiusa.
"I'm afraid so, Young Miss Tsukino," replied Skylight.
"Well in any case, I think Chibiusa is a really cute name. I like it," admitted Mamoru.
"Really?" asked Chibiusa and Skylight.
"You mean it?" finished Chibusa.
"Yeah, I think it's cute," replied Mamoru.
"Then you've earned her permission to call her Chibiusa," said Skylight.
"Okay, hold the phone, why in the heck would even enforce the call Usagi Chibiusa with her permission policy!?" snapped Usagi.
"Don't make me give you a knuckle sandwich," warned Rei.
"And another thing, stop with the knuckle sandwich threat, it's really getting on my nerves!" shouted Usagi.
"Are you willing to go so far as to threaten my sister!?" barked Ivory, who now summoned her Diamond Dust Keyblade.
"Whoa, okay, you don't need to be so forceful with that Keyblade, Ivory," shuddered Usagi.
"Aw, come on Usako, wait a second!" called Mamoru.
"Save it Mamoru, I'm just-" Usagi tried to say.
"Do you want to suffer the same fate as that guy my mother once knew in the past?" asked Verona, putting Usagi in her place.
"My, my, Chibiusa, where in the world were you?" asked Keiko.
"Usagi, Mamoru, and Big Brother found her at the playground, after she told us that she needed some alone time," said Skylight.
"I'm sorry," squeaked Chibiusa.
"Well, now we've found her and she's all right, so everything is safe," said Kenji.
"Oh, right, as for who this guy is, his name's Mamoru Chiba. Since he was in the middle of his morning run, Mamoru needs a bit of time and patience to get along with Usagi, so I hope you acknowledge him as someone who is respectful to other people. But I want you to remember this. Usagi's search for a boyfriend is not a mark of delinquency, it's because of her longing to find someone who acknowledges her feelings, and ensures that she's happy everyday," explained Sora.
"Oh, right, my apologies, Sora. I'll, uh, be sure to know my place from here on out," replied Kenji, who laughed nervously, as Mamoru reluctantly darted away, when Riku arrived.
"Also, you may want to forestall the dramatics for a while. If you think about it, Sora is Usagi's friend, I'm her friend, even the same can be said for the rest of us, Mr. Tsukino," he said.
"And what do you know about friendship?" demanded Mr. Tsukino, even though Riku didn't flinch.
"I may not, but both Sora and your daughter do, more than you could possibly imagine. Though I'm immune to any form of intimidation, I'll tell you this: Usagi and Mamoru chose to be with each other after their previous meetings of the past, thus creating something Sora refers to as a connection. And yet, no matter how often they fought, their bond only grew stronger, and could never be severed by anyone who dared come between them. That's why the first thing any parent would want for their children, is to be happy. But, trying to tell your daughter to sever her bond with Mamoru, would only make her ashamed of calling you her father, Mr. Tsukino," explained Riku, who still remained calm.
"Man, Riku's speech is something else. I'm starting to think he's a pretty cool guy as well, Usagi," admitted Shingo, making Usagi look at him.
"So, could I have something to eat? I'm hungry," piped in Chibiusa.
"Wha-huh? Who are you?" asked Kenji.
"If I may, Mr. Tsukino. She's your niece, Usagi 'Chibiusa' Tsukino, cousin of Usagi and Shingo, and our friend," Riku said casually.
"But, how do you know she's a relative of ours?" Kenji asked the silverette Keyblade Master.
"Because, I'm her big brother," replied Riku.
"My big brother?" asked Chibiusa as she blinked in confusion.
"What!?" everyone asked in surprise.
"Come on everyone, you know that I'm right. Both Chibiusa and I came to this town, but she got lost and ended up finding you in this house," Riku said casually.
Usagi, her family, and Sora seemed confused, but what they didn't know was that he was playing along with Chibiusa's charade, until she turned Luna P into an umbrella with a spiral pattern, and began to spin it, so as to hypnotize Usagi's mother, father and brother. Thankfully, Sora was able to take Usagi's hand, and turn her away from the spinning umbrella just in time.
"Wait a second, Sora, how'd you know?" asked Luna.
"Because Luna, hypnotism is the oldest trick in the book," replied Sora.
Riku just chuckled as he walked towards Chibiusa.
"I'm your very special cousin Chibiusa, and this is my Big Brother, Riku," she said.
Kenji, Keiko, and Shingo nodded in agreement, but Usagi wasn't so sure.
"Hold it right there! So you've been keeping them hypnotized, all this time!?" she snapped.
"Usagi, stand down!" shouted Sora.
Usagi whirled around, only to see Sora's firm glare stopping her.
"You will know your place, or your family might have no alternative but to send you up to your room, the next time you start throwing a tantrum," he said firmly, in a tone of voice that brooked no arguments.
Riku nodded in agreement, as he played along with Chibiusa's charade.
"Consider this a warning from your family: Either be nice to Chibiusa, or suffer the unforeseen consequences. That's one ultimatum your family will give you whenever you threaten to be rude to her, or worse harm her in a way that the rest of us would neither forgive, nor forget," he warned.
Usagi was so shocked and angry, she screamed loudly, making Luna sigh in disbelief.
"Hey, you know, this head thing looks a lot like Luna," said Shingo.
"That's right, Shingo. It even has the same crescent mark upon her forehead, but it's referred to as the Luna-P," added Skylight.
"OH NO!" yowled Luna.
Aboard the crystalline ship, Berthier stepped through a doorway that looked like a mirror frame, and approached Rubeus who was staring at a holographic projection of the shining metropolis.
"Master Rubeus, did you call me sir?" she asked.
"Come here, Berthier. Look," replied Rubeus.
"Is that a hologram of the future city, Crystal Tokyo?" she gasped.
"Yes, and our goal is to crush that despicable future city, as soon as we're able. To do that, it is crucial that we find and erase both the Rabbit, and the Silver Crystal from this timeline," said Rubeus.
"That is understandable, Rubeus. However, none of the Specter Sisters have been able to track this Rabbit's movements, or detect her powers rising whenever she feels despair. Nor have they uncovered any clues to the whereabouts of the Silver Crystal. They are in fact, quite elusive, at the moment," added Ultimecia.
"I know, but I believe there's still another way for us to destroy Crystal Tokyo," assured Rubeus.
He showed them five parts of the map, located around the crystalline structure.
"These are the Crystal Points, from which Crystal Tokyo's force field is generated. I have discovered the locations in this era that will one day become these Crystal Points," explained Rubeus, showing her a makeup shop called Otafukuya.
"Is that one of them?" asked Berthier.
"Berthier, go turn that into a Dark Power area," commanded Rubeus.
"And then the future Crystal Tokyo will end up destroyed," replied Berthier.
"Yes indeed, transformed into dust, ash, and rubble," smirked Ultimecia.
"Somehow I like the way you think Ultimecia," said Rubeus.
At the same time, Mamoru was struck by visions of Crystal Tokyo, and Usagi perished in the darkness, just as the Usagi he knew arrived to greet him.
"Now I get it. Then Usako will be…" he said, clutching his head.
"I flunked another test," moaned Usagi, as Sora walked alongside her with his hands behind his head.
They suddenly saw Mamoru up ahead, picking up his books, and decided to approach him.
"Hey Mamoru," Sora said, making the other guy turn to face him and Usagi.
But Usagi rushed towards Mamoru and hugged him, rubbing her face against his chest, happy at this new meeting.
"Stop it!" Mamoru said quickly.
He gently pushed her back.
"Stop being so affectionate," he said, still in fear.
"Oh, sorry, you're right. It is kinda early in the day," replied USagi.
"That is not what I meant!" Mamoru said furiously.
Making Sora and Usagi confused.
"It's more than that, I just don't feel that way about you anymore," he continued.
"What do you mean?" Sora asked without hesitation.
"It's over between me and Usako, Sora!" answered Mamoru, shocking them both.
Horrified by what they heard, they raced off to the Hikawa Shrine.
"Mamoru broke up with you?" Rei asked Usagi.
"So what in the world happened?" Makoto asked as well.
"I have no idea," replied Usagi.
"Don't be sad. He didn't mean it, he was just in a bad mood, that's all. Cheer up," assured Minako.
"She's right. After all, you two are a couple whose love has even transcended time," added Makoto.
"That's right. Both you and Mamoru forged a bond that can't be broken. I once tried to sever my connection with Princess Twilight Sparkle of Equestria, when the Storm King and Fizzlepop Berrytwist attacked Canterlot and almost destroyed Friendship for good, but in the end my anger led to me saying that it was over between the both of us, until my friends reminded me of all the good times we had together," said Sora.
"Here's a thought, it's possible Mamoru was forcing himself to say that to you for his own sake," Ami said inquisitively.
"What makes you say that, Ami?" asked Aqua.
"Well, he cares for her. He probably wanted Usagi to study more, so he broke up with her to help her grades, or maybe not," replied Ami.
"Don't worry Usagi, Mamoru truly loves you. You know that. He'd never want to hurt you," Rei assured her friend.
"Thanks Rei," replied Usagi.
"I know there's something wrong with Mamoru. And I'm gonna find out for myself," Sora said to himself.
At his apartment, Mamoru was helping Chibiusa with her homework.
"Good job. You're getting the hang of it. Since you'll be going to Shingo's school, you need to do lots of studying," he said.
"I know," replied Chibiusa.
As Mamoru watched Chibiusa writing in her book, he suddenly heard the doorbell ring, and went to answer it. To his surprise, he saw Usagi standing outside of the entrance with Sora at her side. He quietly let them into his apartment.
"Why did you come by?" he asked, his voice etched with darkness.
"About this afternoon, I'm sorry," said Usagi.
"Look Mamoru, you know that we're friends. But the only reason you were acting differently around Usagi was because she was in her own little world," added Sora.
"That wasn't it at all. I told Usako, I just don't have any feelings for her at all," replied Mamoru.
"But Mamo, if this is about studying harder, I can do that," explained Usagi.
"You're not getting it. I want our relationship to be over with!" Mamoru said furiously.
"How can you expect Usagi to believe that stuff you said, Mamoru? What do you hope to gain by severing your bond with her, forever? I know that you two are Prince Endymion and Princess Serenity from another life, but that was before you were reborn as human beings thanks to Queen Serenity's power," replied Sora.
"I'm so sick and tired of hearing that story! Just because all of that might have happened in the past, doesn't mean I have to be with her now! I don't…!" Mamoru said, raising his voice.
But he stopped when he saw Usagi's tear stricken eyes, until she glanced down at another pair of shoes.
"It looks like Chibiusa's here, isn't she? Mamo could this be that you like Chibiusa more than me?" asked Usagi.
"That's ridiculous," replied Mamoru, turning his head away.
"You're right, I'm sorry, Mamo. I'm sorry that you had to deal with me for so long," sobbed Usagi.
Then she walked out the door, but Sora glared at him disappointedly.
"If you're breaking up with Usagi, Mamoru, then so be it. From this day onward, we are also over, Mamoru Chiba. You may have been Prince Endymion from before. But today, you've just shown both me and Usagi, that you're a disgrace to that name," he said, as he followed Usagi out the door.
Mamoru was so upset, as he apologized to the both of them, when Chibiusa stepped out, having heard everything. Outside, Sora walked on ahead of Usagi who walked slowly down the street, her heart crushed by what she had heard. They soon came to a phone booth, but Usagi went inside and cried her eyes out, knowing that she would never bring Mamoru to her house to visit her and her family ever again. But Sora felt a tear rolling down his cheek when he heard Usagi's choked sobs. Meanwhile, in the cosmetic shop people cried out in terror, until a strange burst of darkness made them all silent. Then the door opened, as Berthier appeared in an elegant disguise.
"Are you there, Droid Atsugesho?" she asked.
"Yes, I'm here," replied the Droid.
"Atsugesho, I want you to work here at this newly renovated store, and sell my cosmetic products. It's my special brand called Fancy Fukuwares. It will turn the plainest looking girls into stunning beauties first, but then their skin will be covered in acne and their hair will turn gray. It will leave every woman old and hideous," said Berthier.
"That sounds delightful," smirked Atsugesho, earning a wicked chuckled from Berthier.
"And by doing that, this area will no longer function as a Crystal Point. In fact, our energy will be in complete control of this special place in the Crystal Tokyo of the Future," she said.
Atsugesho chuckled darkly. Then Berthier stood up on a roof, with a magazine in her hands.
"Time to go to work. These should bring in lots of customers," declared Berthier.
But the wind blew the flyers into the sky, as Berthier held her dress down. But her luck somehow changed for the better, when one landed near Usagi, who was still upset by the fact Mamoru had severed his connection with her. A few minutes later, she and Sora arrived at a cosmetic shop and went inside, just as Luna appeared from the alleyway.
"Where are they going?" she asked.
"Welcome, and how can I help you?" the disguised droid asked Usagi.
Usagi looked up, while Sora just glanced around the store.
"Oh, your face looks so sad, you've been crying. Now first, you cleanse your face with this facial wash. After that, use this skin toner, lotion, and finishing cream. Once your skin is primed, some blush to your cheeks, and then some…" said the disguised Atsugesho placing some bottles and boxes of makeup on the counter.
"Hold on. Wait, are you trying to tell me that if I look prettier, then my boyfriend will like me again?" asked Usagi.
"Well, if you really want a man who says he loves you, then you need to go heavier on your makeup," replied Atsugesho.
But Sora saw that the items had a black crescent mark that Koan had.
"Sorry, but Mamoru's not going to say that he loves Usagi because of the way she looks," he said, a glint of suspicion in his eyes.
"Oh yes, I'd say if your looks improve, your man will certainly say that he'll love you, that's how all men are," the false shopkeeper said.
"That's a lie. There's no way that Mamoru would act like that at all. People who don't know him at all, are blind to the truth, and make up bearing a black crescent shape is something that Usagi won't accept at all!" replied Sora, brandishing his Keyblade, as the people had left, just in time.
"Why you little!" snapped Atsugesho.
But Sora could sense that she had darkness within her, as he stood his ground.
"It's time for you to take a hint! I know Usagi would never use makeup to try and get Mamoru to like her again, and I know for a fact that you possess the power of darkness, which makes you a creature of that darkness! So if you want us to use it, then you should tell us who you really are!" he said.
"Very well, I will!" replied Atsugesho, who revealed her true self.
"That's not an improvement!" cried Usagi.
"Now, it's your turn. Put it on!" she said maniacally.
But Usagi resisted, until Luna pushed the Droid back, freeing the girl from her grip.
"Nice timing, Luna!" cheered Sora.
"Good thing you've found out she has darkness, Sora, but we need Sailor Moon!" replied Luna.
"Okay," said Usagi.
Using her compact, she soon transformed into Sailor Moon in a brilliant flash of light, just as Atsugesho recovered from the cat's daring rescue attempt.
"Curse her, where'd she go!?" she snapped.
"How about you take a careful look?" called Sora.
"What in the world!?" gasped Atsugesho.
"I am the Pretty Guardian who fights for love and for justice! I am Sailor Moon! You took advantage of a girl's love to be loved by a boy, trying to force her to buy your cheap cosmetics is unforgivable! So in the name of the Moon, I'm punishing you!" Sailor Moon said furiously.
"Well, well, well. Sailor Moon is it?" asked another voice.
They both whirled around to see a face that Sora knew all too well.
"Hyena R. Droid," Sora said in a dark voice.
"Hah, whoever you are, now that you know our plan to destroy the future city, you're doomed," said Atsugesho.
"Plan to destroy the future city?" asked Luna.
"But first you need a makeover!" cried the Droid.
She began firing acidic bursts from her mouth, just as Hyena summoned the Heartless to his side.
"Heartless! Attack!" he shouted.
Quickly Sailor Moon fled, while Sora jumped over Atsugesho's attacks, and cut down the Heartless with a flurry of strikes, but she slipped and crashed into a set of cosmetics on the front display case. Just as Atsugesho was about to strike, Luna came to the rescue, but was flattened against the wall.
"Nice makeover," she said.
"How dare you hurt Luna, you devil!?" he shouted, rushing towards her in a blind rage.
"Ah, ah, ah, Sora. You know you shouldn't interfere," cackled Hyena.
"Yes, now it's your friend's turn," agreed Atsugesho.
But suddenly a rose stopped her, and Sora saw that Tuxedo Mask had come to the rescue.
"A young girl's complexion is both youthful and fresh. Having makeup does nothing but obscure it!" said the caped crusader.
"Silence you, greasy skin, acne, and roughness all need makeup!" retorted the Droid, firing acid at him.
But Tuxedo Mask had jumped clear, and landed beside Sailor Moon.
"The only one who needs a makeover, is you!" cried Sora, blasting her with a blizzard spell.
"Nice one Sora!" cheered Luna.
"Now's your chance Sailor Moon, end it now!" Tuxedo Mask said.
Sailor Moon nodded, and readied her Princess Scepter, while the droid tried to recreate her eyes.
"Moon Princess Halation!" cried Sailor Moon, blasting the frantic Droid into nothingness.
When she faded away, Sora, Usagi, and Mamoru stood outside of the shop.
"Farewell," he said.
"No wait! Tuxedo Mask you were lying when you said you don't love me anymore, right?" asked Usagi.
"That's right, you still chose to come to Sailor Moon's aid," added Sora.
"Those are two different matters," replied the caped crusader, filling Usagi's eyes with tears.
"Then please, Mamo. Please tell me, what's the reason you don't like me anymore?" Usagi asked again.
"I don't like girls who are weak, farewell," replied Mamoru, as he walked away.
"Mamo!" called Usagi
"Oh no," murmured Sora.
I'm sorry, you guys, thought Mamoru.
"You guys, there are still people lying unconscious in the store basement. Let's go get them out of there," called Luna.
"Fine, I'll help those people out," Sora replied darkly as he walked after Luna.
But Usagi knew what she had to do. She was going to try and convince Mamoru that she was his light, just as he was her light, by seeking even more power to win back his heart.
