Dual Fates
Chapter 3: First day!
"No, no, no come oooon!" Uviel's voice reached throughout her bedroom when the controller to her T.V was slammed onto the floor in front of her. She was sitting cross-legged, comedic angry white eyes twitched after getting killed in the training grounds in Stargazers Online.
Again, the curtains were closed to hide the morning sun from her bedroom, and bits of its light beamed through the cracks of it. She wasn't even dressed yet despite the fact that she was accepted into the school and her uniform was delivered to her by U.A's special delivery service. (I don't know if that actually exists so I just made it up. XD)
the girl stood up, picked the controller back up, and decided to try sparring with a partner in the training grounds again to try and level up. SLAM! "GOOD MORNING, UV-RAY!" Haru chimed in as happy as could be and slammed her bedroom door open.
"AH!" the girl screamed and jumped like the many times she had before when her best friend would come over, she nearly stumbled over the cord to her controller. "Seriously...? Do you have to be so loud, early in the morning?!" Uviel exclaimed and groaned, then plopped back down on her soft cushion on the floor.
"Hah, it wakes you up more doesn't it? Besides, I don't smell U.A's uniform on you yet!" Haru, with her now in her uniform, giggled at the girl who still hasn't put on her own. Har-Har's uniform had tight cloth pants underneath her skirt, simple brown shoes, a red tie, sleeves that were folded up over her forearms, black fingerless cloth gloves, and a bag in her hand that her father gave her the day before.
"How...can you even..." Uviel blinked in surprise at her best friend then looked down at her loose, black, raveling shorts and her oversized, white T-shirt that had...Death...written across it. Hmm, she likes that word a lot it seems. Thoughts of how she could even smell U.A's uniform were beyond her, even though she knew that Haru had incredibly heightened senses.
"UV-Ray, My nose can pick up the fresh scent of cleanliness the Uniform has, it did just get delivered here so it smells like U.A too. Sweat, fear, and oddly enough...cheese," Har-Har explained and laughed at the last part, placing one hand on her hip; her Uniform's top was a little tight on her so it sort of hugged her curves.
"Cheese... Why, cheese...? Did someone eat a burger, or something cheesy while delivering them?" With a roll of her eyes, Uviel stood up and yawned really big. Last night, she and her friend were both on the phone helping each other out with the written tests. There were just some things that the paper didn't properly explain enough, for her or Haru to understand.
"Haha, makes you wonder doesn't it?" Haru questioned in her light chuckle, then heard her friend shuffle around and open the closet door. Quickly she turned around and folded her arms, privacy was her number one thing she wanted to give people even though she couldn't physically see.
After a few minutes, Uviel sighed and adjusted her Uniform to how she preferred it. It was the average and proper style most students wore, but she slipped her large hoodie over her head and pulled the hood down; every piece of her was covered up, from head to toe, even her legs were barely shown. She wore black spats pants underneath, with a long and red cybernetic looking pattern down the side of her legs, along with those brown shoes. Out of the closet, she took out a shiny, black leather mask and put it on, hiding most of her face even though her long bangs provided her coverage.
"Ok, I'm dressed... Now, I'm gonna try and finish up my training..." With that, the girl sat back down cross-legged and heard her friend sigh from annoyance.
Not long later, maybe fifteen minutes or so did she scream out and it wasn't because she lost to a spar or anything... "NOOOO, LET GO, I DON'T WANT TO GO YET! IT'S TOO SOON! I'M ALMOST DONE SPARRING! COME OOOON!" Uviel yelled as she was being dragged through her home, down the hall, and into the kitchen. Her nails were scraping against the floor and causing long, hysterical scratch marks.
Haru was giggling to herself at how funny it was to hear her best friend act like a child, who didn't want to get on a school bus. She carried Uviel's feet within her armpits and had both of their bags on one shoulder, giggles wouldn't stop coming out of her lips.
Dramatic tears fell from the redhead as she scraped across the floor, if she didn't have her mask on her mouth it would've looked hysterical. They did this for a while, with Har-Har trying her best to get her friend to leave Stargazers Online alone and actually walk on her own two feet again... One thing that the girl hadn't realized were two small cuts her friend's cheek and taped-down gauze behind her bangs.
Now, they were sauntering down the sidewalk heading to U.A with their written tests in their bags; well, Haru had the device Nezu gave her in her bag, that is. With Uviel's hand holding onto her own bag over one shoulder, her other hand rested inside the pocket of her oversized hoodie and that mask of hers glossed when the sun beamed down on her. "Hahaha, UV-Ray, this is a good chance for you to meet new people instead of constantly talking to online players, who want to fight you all the time." Beaming with energy and was confident in her plan to fulfill her best friend's wish, her smile broadened.
"Heh, you sound like my mom right now..." the girl answered with a sweatdrop trailing down her head and her eyes narrowing. Her mask prevented any sign of expression aside from what people could see in her eyes; however, those blue hues blinked upon hearing behind some store windows talk about the news. She halted in her step, looked to the side, and saw a newswoman.
This is a follow-up report on yesterday's incident at the U.A rescue training facility, where hero course students were attacked by villains. she began and caused Haru to halt in her step as well. The brunette inched close to the glass pane to hear it better and Uviel was reading the subtitles to understand the lady since her voice was muffled by the window in the shop. According to the police investigation, the criminals call themselves "The League of Villains" and have been plotting to kill All Might, who has been a teacher at U.A since spring of this year. Police have arrested seventy-two villains, but they still don't know of the whereabouts of their ringleader. she finished with a stern face evident and the news switched over to someone else soon after, it wasn't really important so the girls just stepped away from the glass.
"Sheesh...and you wanted me to join U.A...when there are villains attacking the school now? Are you insane...?" Annoyance could be heard in the girl's voice and her eyes viewed the brunette, Haru blinked curiously only to hum in thought.
"Hmm, well, that's news...to my ears. Haha! Anyway, I still don't think it'd be a bad idea for us to go. We already applied to it so we might as well go through to the end, right?~" Har-Har questioned and chuckled at her own little joke.
"Whatever...you're right, let's go," Uviel agreed and continued to U.A with her friend in tow. It didn't take them too long to find it again, thanks to her memory and Haru's sense of smell for the odd-smelling uniforms. It took them a while to get through the halls and find the Principal's office again, but when they did they went through the agonizing process of him reading the tests and listening in on the device of Haru's.
Nezu was sitting in his chair contemplating and looking on his tablet to find perfect spots for the girls. Although, what he said after finding them a place in U.A...made Uviel feel devastated and for a shadow to cast over her eyes. "It looks like you girls will mostly be separated throughout your years here. Miss Saito, you and miss Yukimura will be in Class 1-A with Mr. Aizawa. However, with your level of intelligence, you will be taking math, science, foreign languages, and more will be listed in your schedule here," he began and heard the printer next to him print out her schedule. "Miss Yukimura will be taking classes on foreign languages, P.E, and more. Your schedule is here..." he started, pulled out the next printed piece, and gave it to the brunette.
"Uviel Saito, you will be in the department of Heros along with your friend here. Please take care of yourselves and be sure to get plenty of food and rest!~ We welcome you with open arms!" Nezu cheered and lifted his paws happily until his attention was caught by nearly forgetting something important. "Ah, I almost forgot!" he beamed, left his office chair, and pulled open a drawer; out came two notes that were specifically made to the teachers that they were going to meet.
Around his desk and up to the two girls who sat in the chairs from before, those notes were given to them. "These are notes to let your teachers know that you are new students attending. I would call each teacher myself but I am oh, so terribly busy right now. Given the fact that villains attacked the school I must reinforce the security for better safety.~" explained the white creature as he wandered back over to his chair and sat across from the girls once more. "Now, off you go!~ Wouldn't want to be late on your first day! Haha!" with his paws raised and enthusiasm radiating from his small form, both of the girls groaned.
Haru groaned knowing she wouldn't be in all of the classes as her best friend and Uviel did the same since she hated running around so much. To be frank, it was mostly because she wanted to be with her friend throughout the school years. "Well, I'm just glad the subjects change each year. Let's just hope we get all the same classes next year, ok?!~" Beamed the brunette as her blind eyes closed from her large smile. "Don't worry, we'll see each other on occasion it's not like we won't." With that, she sensed the girl raise her head and nod.
"Fine, alright..." Saddened and reluctant, Uviel stood then made her leave with Haru following along. They both had their schedules stuffed into their bags and made their way to their assigned homeroom, many students who heard the morning bell ring were passing them by with curious faces.
Kids who looked normal and some that didn't, all noticed the blind girl who hadn't even glanced at anyone she passed. Haru stood four inches taller than her friend, who was five foot and two inches. "Excuse me!" Upon seeing a colored figure about to turn a corner, she waved and ran up to them.
The person who stopped was a girl with brown hair and brown eyes, she was a half-inch shorter than her best friend. "Hi, is there something you need?" the girl greeted with a friendly smile and closed her eyes.
"Yes, we're looking for Class 1-A. Mr. Aizawa's our homeroom teacher!" Har-Har chirped happily and shut her gaze, that grin of hers was almost as bright as the brunette in front of her.
"I was just heading there too! Follow me, I'll show you!" That bright smile remained and she trotted down the hall, on occasion keeping her eyes on them from her peripherals to make sure they didn't get lost. The two girls followed after and when they saw the door, they watched her run in screaming out to her classmates. "Everyone, I think we have some new students!" her cheerful exclamation made Uviel's blue hues widen and pink to dust her cheeks.
Quickly, the redhead stopped just before putting her foot into the door's frame. "Nope," as quiet as she could mumble, the girl turned around calmly and was about to walk away until the back of her hoodie was yanked. A shocked grunt escaped her masked lips when she was pulled toward the door by Haru's strong grip, she didn't want all eyes on them and tried avoiding the attention.
"Nope is right, you're not leaving that quick!" Energetic, Har-Har yelled with a big grin and pulled the girl into the classroom, the redhead's feet were dragging across the floor. All she heard were grumbles of defeat and felt her slump down in her position. All eyes were on them now and Uviel did everything she could to hide her face from the sheer embarrassment. "Now, where to sit..." her head lifted slightly and her nose twitched, smelling for any spots that didn't have someone's butt in it already.
"You can sit over there! There are two spots here in the corner," a girl with pink hair and antennae waved a hand to get her attention, she didn't notice that the brunette was blind. Though, despite the waving hand, she felt the movement in the floor where she frantically waved and grinned.
"Thanks! Come on, stand up. You're causing a scene..." Haru huffed and lifted up a chibi Uviel who looked terribly annoyed with pink tints remaining.
Returning to normal, the redhead looked around and moved her hood further down her head more to hide. She grasped her best friend's hand and led her to her seat, then it was her turn to sit. A boy with red hair and red eyes kept curiously staring at her from the side as they passed, trying to see past the girl's hood, red bangs, and mask.
Mostly everyone watched with curiosity, except a dirty blonde-haired boy who kept his eyes forward and ignored them. A small boy with balls on his head kept gawking at Haru with hearts in his eyes, he was staring at her figure that her tight uniform's top exposed and her low ponytail swung as she leaned over her desk.
Sitting down two desks from Har-Har, her blue hues watched in silence as everyone talked among each other. Those pink tints faded after a while and she laid her head down, appearing as bored as she normally is when she's not playing a game. It felt weird...no one approached her, they were all so focused on their conversations. She didn't care though, it was like this ever since she was in elementary school and it never changed. It was something she was pretty used to, however, Haru was talking with the same brown-haired girl that she later overheard her name being Uraraka Ochaco, in their conversation; very slowly did her eyes close until an idea came to mind.
From her hoodie's pocket, she pulled out a 3DS and started playing a fighting game. Her level was pretty high, her character was at level 64 and it was a woman who wielded a staff. The redhead made her run around and swing her staff at monsters who would jump out to attack, however... She never knew about the few pair of eyes that lingered on her frame. A boy with a black bird's head, the redheaded boy from before who only stared at her with concern, and a large boy with hair over his eyes and a mask.
Though, with the conversations going on and Haru making friends easily with everyone who spoke to her, they were interrupted. "Mr. Aizawa, you're back too soon!" excluding Haru and Uviel, the classmates all yelled in unison.
The teacher himself had slid the door open and stood there with a cast over his arms along with bandages over his face. Black, unkempt hair reached his shoulders and his eyes bore into everyone's who sat there gawking. "You're too much of a pro!" A kid with blonde hair and a lightning streak in it grew shocked at the teacher's arrival.
With a raise of a hand, some guy grew stiff and yelled out in question. "So, you're alright, Mr. Aizawa?!" from his words, Ochaco behind him was unsure about him really being okay, when she rose a hand near her mouth.
"My well-being doesn't matter," the teacher began as he made his way to his desk. He turned to face the students and continued. "More importantly, the fight is not yet over," his muffled words made a few students mumble questions and the one with balls on his head began to freak out about it possibly being villains again. Aizawa's head lowered and a little bit of shadow fell over his eyes, a more stern look could be seen in them. "U.A. Sports Festival is drawing near," he answered them and took notice of the new girls in the back, then squinted his gaze.
Everyone cheered, especially the redhead and they all said in unison... "That's a super, normal school event!" both of the girls sort of blinked and looked at each other, only for Haru to narrow her blind hues at her friend when she heard her 3DS playing. "The sports festival!" they all yelled once again in unison and soon the red-haired girl jumped at their 2nd outburst, hating how loud everyone was.
After a while of Aizawa explaining the sports festival to everyone, the students spoke among themselves about how heroes watch for possible pupils. "Of course, joining a famous hero agency will get you more experience and popularity. Time is limited... If you expect to go pro, then the path to your future will open up at this event. One chance a year, a total of three chances. No aspiring heroes can afford to miss this event. If you understand that, then don't slack off on your preparations!" he finished and peeked over at the two girls in the back. "Now, today we have some new students. Why don't one of you come up here and introduce yourselves...?" with that he watched as the brunette in the back jumped out of her seat and fast-walked to the front.
She felt excited, thrilled at knowing they just started their first day of school and they were already heading into the Sports Festival event. Har-Har turned, faced the class, and gave them the brightest smile she could muster. "I'm Haru Yukimura, age seventeen, and I'm half snake-humanoid!~" her hands were clamped onto her hips after making a confident pose and closing her eyes. (Snake-humanoid is just a man-up name I decided on. XD)
A lot of the kids gasped and spoke among themselves regarding her introduction, while Ochaco felt a surge of energy and confidence radiating off of the brunette in front of the class. The boy with a ton of black balls attached to his head laughed perversely at the girl, who didn't seem to notice his expression. The dirty blonde-haired boy, who sat next to a kid with green-ish hair, folded his arms and kept his usual frown present.
Though a sudden sting surged through her mouth and she winced. Quickly, the brunette pulled out a small venom bottle from her uniform's pocket and bit down onto a plastic-like seal. Yellow poison extracted from her fangs and trickled down the inside of the container, scaring a few kids in the process. Wiping her mouth, Haru gave them a toothy grin and shut her blind eyes giggling. "Also, I may be blind but don't let that fool you. I can see just as clearly as everyone else...~" her hazy, green hues stared forward and a strange, dark aura surrounded her within a second before it faded away. Strange indeed, it almost seemed as though dark humor could be seen on her face and Uviel saw it.
"Thank you, Yukimura..." After Aizawa nodded, he saw her make her way back to her seat then his eyes landed on the redheaded girl in the back. "You're next..." as reluctant as she seemed, she wasn't the only one and Aizawa actually proved it when he was about to change his mind on the introduction.
Uviel's eyes widened at her being pointed out and sunk further into her chair. Quickly saving her progress on her game, she stuffed it into her hoodie and then her own hands next. It was a little hard to notice the pink tints on her cheeks, but they deepened when her best friend stood from her seat. "Come on, they wanna meet you!" Haru beamed and ran over to her, pulling her out of her chair. The redhead simply grumbled and watched her drag her in front of the class, finding it amusing to see her best friend shy away.
Everyone leaned in to try and see her face more but they all failed because her black leather mask and hair hid most of it. Yukimura simply chuckled to herself after turning her to face the students, she didn't notice Uviel's eyes looking off to the side in embarrassment. "Don't worry, she's just too-" before Haru could finish, the redhead ran around the desk and picked up the chalk. Quickly, her full name, age, and what she is were, was written beautifully, almost artistically on the board.
Everyone gasped at the beautiful writing and some of them beamed with excitement after reading past her name; it said, Uviel Saito, age fifteen, I have cybernetic attachments, and I'm a gamer...
Without even taking any glances at the students, the said girl hurried in her walk back to her seat, and put her hands in her hoodie again. "I hate introductions...they're so embarrassing..." mumbling, her best friend heard her easily with her enhanced hearing and chuckled at it. From her own words, flashes of memories ran through her mind within that very second; images of children laughing at her during several introductions through her school years.
They were all pointing and laughing at the lines all over her body, it nearly made her little self cry if it wasn't for the teacher shushing them. The redhead just barely passed a boy with darker-looking red hair and his eyes widened at the sight of her beautiful blue eyes, adorned with a faint flush on his cheeks.
Those quick memories of her past made her pull her hood over her face more in an attempt to be more hidden and everyone stared at her with knitted brows or surprise. After she sat down she sighed and laid her head on the desk on top of her folded arms.
"Well, class dismissed," Aizawa mumbled and left the room with his gaze lingering on Yukimura's form who continued to stand. He knew he recognized her last name from somewhere but couldn't put his finger on it. "I need to talk to the Principal later..." mumbled that last part, many students passed him on his way down the hall.
As some students left, few remained and they were the ones who were genuinely curious about Uviel. The boy with red hair walked up to her desk and put his hands in his pockets, sporting a large grin all the while. "Hey, I'm Eijiro Kirishima, nice to meet ya!" he chirped happily with excitement on his features.
Her blue eyes moved and viewed Eijiro who continued to have faint flushes on his cheeks. Haru walked over and stood by her side holding her bag, she knew the next period was going to start so she waited for her friend to pick up her things.
"I just got done chatting with Ochaco, she thought it was cool that I was blind but could still see!~" Happily grinning and chuckling, her hazy hues kept viewing forward even though her words were meant for her friend.
"Cool..." As if on cue, the masked man and the black bird-head boy walked up to Uviel's desk and greeted her.
"Oh yeah, he is Fumikage Tokoyami and he's Mezo Shoji!" As Kirishima introduced the guys to the best friends, the girls gave them all a wave and greeted them back. Of course, Uviel was a little less enthusiastic.
"Hey..." Embarrassed by the introductions, her blue gaze averted to the side and pink tints returned. Just when she was about to hide more within her hood, Haru yanked it down and revealed a lot of her bright red, short hair. Kirishima's grin fell and his eyes widened at the bright locks on her head, a little more of her face could be seen despite the long bangs covering it up; not long did those pink flushes return to his cheeks.
"Come on, is that any way to greet your classmates? I know you've had a hard time in the-" before Har-Har got to answer, the redhead stood from her seat and pulled the hood back over her head. Her bag was picked up after she did so and hurried down the row of desks that were already empty. "Hm... I don't know why, but I tend to forget that she's super shy..." her words were mumbled as her eyes remained facing Uviel's previous spot before she bolted.
"Shy? Ah, so that's it. Haha, it's no wonder why she's wearing all of that!" Kirishima laughed and scratched the back of his head, eyes closed in the process.
"I wonder why though..." Mezo's curious eyes moved over to where the door was and thought about her quiet behavior.
