AN: I am labeling the chapters with the same titles as the episodes that they go along with so some chapters will have the same titles. Enjoy!
Tara and I rode together and followed Wayne back to my house. He called us once he was sure no one was there and Tara helped me up the stairs to my room. I went to my dresser and reached for jeans.
"I think a skirt and loose top might be best." Tara said.
"Yeah. You're probably right."
I was in so much pain I could barely move, so she had to help me pull up my skirt and put on my shirt. After that I sat on the end of my bed and put on some boots. I was in so much pain by the time that I got dressed that Tara had to help me down the stairs. She was holding one arm while i gripped the banister.
Wayne was waiting for us at the bottom of the stairs. He looked up at me with such pity and sadness. I knew then that I could never tell anyone else about what happened. I couldn't stand my family or the guys looking at me like that.
"I'm going to take her by Jax's house and get Abel before going to the hospital." Tara said to Wayne.
"Aright. I've got to make a stop. I'll be there in a bit."
We got in the car and the drive started in silence. I had hoped it would stay that way, but I just couldn't be that lucky.
"What happened Millie? Who did this to you?"
"Don't ask me that Tara."
"Millie you need to talk about what happened."
"Not now Tara. Too much shit going on."
"You can't keep this shit inside your head Amelia. It'll drive you crazy."
"I'll be fine. I'm a tough girl."
"I know you are, but this… this isn't your everyday club shit. This is personal."
"This is club shit Tara. Don't you get that? Everything that happens in this family, this town, is club shit."
"Who's car is that?" She asked as we pulled into the driveway.
"Shit. Nita must have started today."
"The babysitter?"
"Yeah. It'll be fine. I'll just go in and get him. You get the car seat."
I got out of the car before she had even turned the key so she couldn't argue.
When I got to the door it was locked, so I got my keys out of my purse and went inside.
"Good morning." Nita said.
"Morning."
Nita was in the kitchen to my left, so I kept my body turned the other way to keep her from seeing my face. I had to hold on to the wall for support while I walked down the hallway.
When I got to Abel's room, I carefully picked him up. I was trying not to wake him, but also cautious of my ribs. I was sure some of them were broken. I wrapped his blanket around him and turned around.
"My God. What happened?" Nita asked. She looked concerned. God only knows why, I've only met the woman once before.
"I'm fine." I said, touching my face and walking away. "I've got to get him to St. Thomas. I'll have home back before lunch."
"I thought he had all his tests?"
"He needs more." God she was annoying.
Tara was standing in the doorway.I grabbed my keys out of the lock and walked out of the house. I heard them talking as I walked away. Damn, Tara can never keep her mouth shut. This was never going to work.
"I need to get them both to the hospital." Tara said.
"I think I should follow you."
"Yeah. That'd be good."
I buckled Abel into his car seat and carefully slid into the car. Tara was getting in by the time I got my seatbelt on.
"This is never going to work." I said, annoyed.
"Why's that?"
"'Cuz you can't keep your damn mouth shut."
"I didn't tell her anything."
"This time."
"Hey." She said, turning to look at me. "I'm not going to say anything to anyone, I promise. It's not my place."
I just nodded and looked out the window while she started the car. All I wanted was for this day to be over, but I knew it was far from it.
