Chapter 3
"Wake up, Gale!" I hear a muffled voice! "Gale"
I get up at once and see Posys' large round eyes staring down at me.
"It's late noon Gale'' Startled by the information I leap up and dash towards the woods. I reach the stream, the spot where Katniss and I meet. I sit down at the edge waiting for her when reality strikes me. She is not coming. The Hunger Games. I sigh heavily. It takes a lot of strength to get on my feet. I hunt for some time. I get two turkeys and 4 fish. I trade them in the black market and divide the share of money equally. I give the money to Hazelle and take the rest to Katniss's Mom. She accepts the money and asks me to wait back for the interview. All tributes are interviewed on the first day. This interview is designed to earn sponsors, so each tribute tries to impress the audience! I am not yet ready to see her on the television.
I reluctantly agree.
Day 1
The show starts. As always district 12 will be the last one to be interviewed. I desperately wait for her to appear. District 1...2...3…11
Katniss walks in and she looks stunning in the red velvet attire. I can't stop staring at her. The camera zooms over to her face. I can see the concealer that is coated on the dark bags under her eyes. She looks exhausted. She doesn't bother to answer the questions. She remains silent and nods. This is not going to help her earn sponsors. She leaves without leaving any impact. Then, it's the boy from district 12. Peeta Mellark.
The blue-haired interviewer asks him if he has someone special at home.
Mindfully, he replies "Nah! She is here with me!"Everyone gasps!
It is no one else than Katniss Everdeen!
Breathless with the anger I get up and go out. I already see her slipping away.
I clumsily stroll home. I lie down and sleep through the night.
Day 2
We are all again gathered to see a live episode. I see Katniss holding Peeta's hand. This upsets me. I feel this is the way to hurt me now. But I push the thought aside and continue to watch the episode.
"Will you stay for a little longer?" Katniss shyly questions.
"Yes, my love! Always!"
I avert my eyes from the television and stare at Buttercup. She is licking her paws fondly. She looks like she is dipped in a pool of mud. She is much healthier than any of us in district 12. I almost choke her when I pick her up. She shrieks.
Day 15
This continues for weeks. I am amazed to see her come so long. Only three tributes are remaining. However, this troubles me. Katniss is closer to becoming the victor! I think she'll kill Peeta. This act was only carried out to hurt me.
One of the endings
She looks at the camera for several seconds. This behaviour of her is confusing for the audience, they look annoyed. Instantaneously, Katniss blurts out.
"The recent mine explosion in district 12 was not an accident, it was planned! Gale Hawthorne planned it."
Everyone in the audience is appalled. I am unable to interrupt the happenings. I am too stunned to move. How can you Katniss?
She starts to yell, "He killed my father...He killed him!"She wails. Everyone is too confused to understand the change in circumstances.
